So cute... And great explanation of the candy cane's 'origins', very original! :-)

Author's reply

Thank you so much. This one was quite a challenge!

Grey Wonderer · 20 January 2013 · Chapter 1

I loved finding this story tonight on my walk down memory lane. Thank you for the smiles and for your wonderful Gandalf! I like the double meaning behind the candy canes. Thank you for reminding me why I enjoy this fandom so much even now.

Author's reply

Oh my goodness, thank *you*. Being reminded that folks continue to read and enjoy my tales brings me such joy.

What a wonderful and sweet story, my dear. I love it sooo much, it made me smile. What a wonderful dinner break I had today! J is for jolly! Thank you – I’ll always be shire-bound! *hugs tightly*

Author's reply

Thank you, dear Julchen! I need to keep giving our hobbits (and their friends) peaceful, happy, loving scenes. And it's such fun when Gandalf learns something new about 'his hobbits'. :D *hugs you*

Queen Galadriel · 22 December 2006 · Chapter 1

Oh, this is so sweet--literally! :) I love the way you used the candy canes; how interesting! And love also that it was from Gandalf's POV. God bless, Galadriel

Author's reply

It's very interesting to see through Gandalf's eyes! He's such a softie when it comes to 'his hobbits'. I'm very happy you enjoyed this.

Elemmírë · 12 December 2006 · Chapter 1

What a perfect holiday tale, Shirebound! I really liked your creativity as to how the candycanes were originally created by the Elves to honor those who bore the Three. And trust hobbits to discover a new use for them! ~Elemmírë~

Author's reply

Thank you! This candy cane challenge was very 'challenging' indeed. :D

Tigger · 9 December 2006 · Chapter 1

I will never be able to look at a candy cane the same way ever again. What a lovely piece of Yuletide fluff!! The perfect ending to an all too few not so bad days for me these days. (((HUGS))) Thanks Shirebound and Happy Yule to you and yours as well!!

Author's reply

Yay for hobbit fluff, Tigger! Lots and lots of hugs right back, and I hope you have a very Happy Yule.

Antane · 9 December 2006 · Chapter 1

What a sweet story, shirebound - no pun intended, though I was nervous about giving wee Pippin all that sugar but now I see it was a moment to teach instead, though I don't think for a minute that somehow that cane is not going to end up in his mouth anyway. :) Love that little mention of Merry. And Estel - cute of think of Aragorn sucking on a candy cane. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

My goodness, the cane *did* end up in Pippin's mouth! What a shock. :O I'm glad you enjoyed this bit of 'sweetness', Antane. And I do love the image of wee!Estel nibbling away on a candy cane. :D

Baggins Babe · 9 December 2006 · Chapter 1

What a lovely idea - candy canes honouring the Three! A lovely Yule fic, Shirebound, and delightful to see Gandalf among his beloved hobbits. I feel warm and fuzzy and ready for Christmas now!

Author's reply

I just love it when Gandalf interacts with 'his' hobbits, and maybe even learns something new. (Maybe the hobbits' ability to constantly surprise him is why he enjoys studying "hobbit lore" in the first place.) I'm so happy you enjoyed this warm 'n fuzzy Yule story. :D

Elflingimp · 9 December 2006 · Chapter 1

Aw! That was so very sweet and now when ever I see a candycane it will remind me of your story!

Author's reply

Awww, thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed this. :D

Larner · 9 December 2006 · Chapter 1

What a delightful gift for us to receive, Shirebound, and for the teaching of memories. So, the Three and their bearers are honored--so much more desirable than what happened with the Nine and the Seven--much less the One. Well and good, of course! Heh!

Author's reply

Thank you, Larner. It's such a delight to have folks with whom to *share* hobbity gifts.

Idril Celebrindal · 9 December 2006 · Chapter 1

This is perfect! Even now you can find canes with blue, green and even plain white but not all mixed together. I know I won't look at them the same. It has been a while since I put canes on the tree, might have to change that. :-)

Author's reply

Thank you so much. We've been surrounded by Elvish treats all this time, and never knew it! :D

Pearl Took · 9 December 2006 · Chapter 1

Jolly and joyful . . . that's our wee hobbits! This is sweet, and you're so very good with sweet stories. Thank you for sharing the warm glow!

Author's reply

Thank you, Pearl. I do love 'sweet', especially when hobbits are involved. :D

Lily · 9 December 2006 · Chapter 1

What a wonderful, sweet story!

Author's reply

Thanks, Lily!

harrowcat · 9 December 2006 · Chapter 1

Aw this is so sweet! (Pun intended!) It makes me wonder how the third colour got dropped? Perhaps when the third ring passed to a certain Wizard? And it reminds me of the many songs we sing at this season with meanings forgotten by the majority. E.g. the twelve days of Christmas.

Author's reply

Glad you enjoyed! Yes, there are so many traditions whose origins are growing lost to time. It's fun to imagine Gandalf seeing where this Elvish 'invention' has ended up, and its enjoyment by the hobbits.
