· Chapter 19: Good King Elessar: Part 3, Through the Rude Wind's Wild Lament
I love the idea of Rose taking a broomstick to the King! Perhaps she will reach for the dreaded tea towel as well!
I imagine the Travellers never spoke of the worst parts of the journey in front of the children - rather like soldiers. My father never spoke of the worst experiences during WW2 but I always had the idea that some of it was too horrible to dwell on.
I love the way Aragorn treats Frodo-lad and I like the fact that he is known as Uncle Strider.
Hope you received the notification of my latest Yule story. I don't know where they go sometimes.
Author's reply
Perhaps! *giggle* I thought of your tea towel when I wrote that part! LOL!
You are right--I'm sure they would talk of the "pleasant" parts--being with their friends, and so forth, but the worst parts they would keep to themselves for the most part. Of course there was the Red Book. But reading it rather than hearing it puts it at a distance...
I just have this idea that Aragorn may have encouraged that "Uncle Strider" in earlier years.
I'm woefully behind in my *reading* of new fic and stories, what with holiday deadlines on *writing* I've had to do! But I'm hoping to catch up on New Year's Day!

Still a joy to read, Dreamflower! I love Frodo-lad getting to hear some of the more serious talk about the Quest, and I'm so glad Uncle Strider heard him call out.

Author's reply
I think most of the time, the Travellers would not have wanted to discuss the more frightening parts of their journey with the children--reading in the Red Book was one thing, but I don't think they would have wanted the children to realize how bad it was, really.
There's no doubt Uncle Strider would hear him, even with all the wind.

Aragorn is just lovely here.I'll be interested to see if he turns out to know the poor man. Another lovely chapter, I'm enjoying this.
Author's reply
Well, Aragorn is just lovely, anyway, but I'm glad you like how I'm portraying him.
And I hope you will like the backstory I have for the poor man.

· Chapter 18: Good King Elessar: Part 2, A Good League Hence
A very good explanation for 'taters' in Me- e. A most enjoyable chapter.
Author's reply
Well, JRRT said that was the explanation for pipe-weed, so I figured it could also apply to other so-called "New World" plants...

At least they made it! And being an old Ranger waystation it ought to be properly made and snug. Now, to find out who's inside. Bill Ferny? Harry Goatleaf? Radagast? A former Ranger? A certain beekeeper? Heh!
Author's reply
Yes, they made it!
You will soon find out--I hope that you will appreciate the revelation.

Oh I love this, Dreamflower1 Frodo-lad is as practical and sensible as his father and aragorn is having far too much fun with this! He's like a child who has sneaked away from his lessons. ;-)
Merry and Pippin will definitely be cross when they wake up!
Merry Christmas!
Author's reply
He's like a child who has sneaked away from his lessons.
EXACTLY! And yes, I'll bet they will be!
Hope your Christmas was a Merry one, too! Happy New Year!

The suspense is building...and it's great, lol. I really like your Frodo-lad; he's practical and thoughtful, just like his father. :-) This is going to be a wonderful adventure!
Awaiting Part 3...
Author's reply
I really am glad that he is coming across as taking after Sam!
Part 3 is up now!

Frodo felt a touch of alarm; somehow to hear the King say "I have an idea" in the same tone of voice his own younger brothers often used just before committing some inventive bit of mischief, did not bode well. *lol* I see Frodo feels the same as I do! And I had to grin about his remark in the letter to his uncles that it was Aragorn’s idea to go off ...
It’s truly nice of them to want to help this man, but somehow I am wondering if they may need all these things themselves – wood for fire, something to eat and drink, blankets ...
Oh well, you can probably tell that I look forward to know more ;-)
Merry Christmas to you, my dear!
Author's reply
Yes, Strider's being a bit impulsive, isn't he? I don't suppose he often gets the chance anymore to be Ranger.
I had a very Merry Christmas! I hope you did too!

· Chapter 17: Good King Elessar: Part 1, Hither Page and Stand by Me
It’s so fitting that the children of the Travellers call Aragorn ‚Uncle Strider’. It has to be hard for Frodo-lad to change that now, if he’s only half as bad as his own father was with ‚Master’ Frodo ;-)
Hm ... why I have the feeling Bergil could be right that it is a bad idea to leave Aragorn alone ... btw, I am glad he is the one who accompanied him. It’s always nice to see him again. And I am sure he was only too happy to see his hobbit friends again.
Ah, so the hobbits built the kitchen of this hunting lodge only for hobbit cooks? Great excuse to stay with their Strider :-)
Aragorn has an idea? Somehow I wonder if it is a *sensible* idea ... could it be that reading too much fanfiction makes one suspicious?

This is getting exciting. Do we have to wait until after Christmas for more? :)

Well, I had not planned to wait, but RL and other writing commitments got in the way. I hope you are still enjoying it!

A right good and proper 'new tradition'. No grumps welcome for Yule! *g* Happy Holiday to you, Dreamflower!

I think Merry has finally come to terms with *why* he was being grumpy--he won't do it again, I don't think!

· Chapter 14: This Time Next Year
Wow! What great peeks into all of these households! Each one was affected a bit differently from the others after the four hobbits left the Shire. Good tale.

Yes, something different in each family--just as each of the four hobbits who left were different.

· Chapter 13: The Long Wait Begins
Awww, poor Bilbo! Not much has been written about his feelings while he waited such a long time for Frodo to come back from the Quest.

No, there hasn't. Yet it had to have been a dreadful time for him.

· Chapter 12: Conspiracy Yule
Famous last words: ...'what could go wrong?' Frodo was so fortunate in cousins and a great brother of the heart.

I've always been fascinated by the fact that Merry started the "Conspiracy" *before* Frodo found out about the Ring! It just shows how well they knew him!

That certainly made me hungry...and brought back fond memories of fried potatoes, grilled steak, thick toasted sweet french bread and butter, orange juice, the smell of fresh brewed coffee...our Christmas morning first breakfast in my Mom's family...yum!

Poor Gaffer. He did not want his babies to grow up so soon! A Sleigh Ride is something I never got to do in my 60 years. Maybe some day I will. Sounds nice and cozy.
Author's reply
I never have, either, though I did finally get to go for my first carriage ride this Christmas!
Well, I imagine the Gaffer was a bit protective of the two youngest chicks in his brood!

This is so good! I love dear Frodo-lad, he is so like his papa. And I'm enjoying Strider, he's being a bit Pippinish and I find that endearing.
So well done Dreamflower!
Author's reply
I did want to make Frodo-lad a bit Sam-like. I've always had the impression that he really took after his father.
*grin* Are you suggesting that hobbits have rubbed off on good old Strider? I think you may be right--he *is* being a bit Pippinish in this, isn't he?
Which begs the question: How is *Pippin* going to react to Strider pulling this stunt?

· Chapter 6: The Snow-Hobbit
Tip and Tulip are great story characters, especially for very young hobbits. I enjoyed 'The Snow-Hobbit' story very much. I will remember it to tell my grandchildren one day.

In my head, there is this whole little series about "Tip and Tulip" in the Shire, nursery tales that appeal to very young little hobbits!

I love Aunt Dora and all her advice about absolutely everything one can possibly think of! *giggle* She is adorable...a bit tedious, but adorable.

· Chapter 3: Merry Yule
Awww, sweet Fro! I feel for Dahlia having to be away from her family on the holiday, but Frodo and Merry took care of that bit of sadness!
Author's reply
Yes, poor Dahlia was a bit homesick. Frodo is a sweet lad, and who could help being cheered up by such a "Merry" baby?
