· Chapter 110: Putting Glorfindel in the Mood
To be honest, I don’t truly know how to think about the matter with Glorfindel. Even if I don’t approve of the challenge, I can still understand him rather well – he felt hurt so much, and after all that happened over the last months, it was a bit too much. I think mostly I feel sorry for him.
At least he got to work off his frustration. It says a lot about Glorfindel that it needed four Maiar, I think. And I couldn’t help but snickering about Eönwë recording all these oaths Glorfindel made during the wrestling.
Now I only wonder if Glorfindel is truly over the whole matter or if he still holds a grudge.
Author's reply
Glordindel is one tough cookie, that's for sure. He's truly trying to reconcile his feelings with what happened to him, but he's going about it the wrong way with the challenge. His friends realize this and only want to help him, if he would just let them. I think that 'talking it out' with the Maiar has gone a long way towards diffusing any deep-seated residual resentment Glorfindel may be harboring within his fëa. One can only hope, and as Námo tells Vorondil, it really isn't good to hold a grudge.

· Chapter 109: Further Conversations With the Elder King
"Now I know why Atar returned to Aman... and it had nothing to do with any Doom of Mandos." *ROFL* You know, Finrod could be right!
Don’t envy Vorondil for the company of the two most intimidating Valar, even if the outcome was not what he had expected. But what Manwë said to Sador about him made sense – Vorondil is so immature and unsure of himself that he could take the teasing quite wrong, even though he watches the others teasing each other all the time. Well, if he dared to argue with Námo it can’t be too bad. And our dear Vorondil seems to have an issue with folding clothes *snicker*
Author's reply
Vorndil's Judgment has opened a whole new can of worms for the Valar and they are not sure just how such a thing would affect someone who is still alive, so they have a vested interest in the ellon and want to ensure that he does not fall back into the darkness that twisted him in the first place. I suspect that Vorondil is wising up to Finrod's tricks and may realize that folding clothes is just "make work" to give him something to do as Finrod's thrall.

Uh...Sorry! I just forgot to add this to my other review on the same chapter when I had kept reminding myself mentally while writing the main part of the review to add it at the end, but here it is then!
Thank you for putting Amarie back in after all my nagging sort of for the past few weeks! I sort of want to see Finrod's actions when meeting up with her again. (Yeah...in a way I have been just counting down for her to yell(maybe not yell) at him...) I cannot wait for the tournament though. Though I keep having a feeling Finrod is going to lose! I just cannot imagine seeing him winning against someone like Glorfindel... Finrod is just, well... TOO much of a scholar type of person (at least to my opinion). Nice Sador! You finally remembered to tell them! I like how you made Sador tell Finrod and Glorfindel about THEIR gift for Amarie right when they were stressed enough. That was the perfect moment Fiondil to add that little note.
I cannot wait to arrive at the chapters for the tournaments!
Namarie!
P.S. this might be my shortest review yet!
Author's reply
Amarië will probably feature a bit more in the next few chapters involving the tournament.
Sador is bright enough to warn his brothers about the gift but just young enough to enjoy watching them squirm (Finrod especially). That's what younger siblings are for, after all.
As to who wins the tournament.... only time will tell.

Hi! I was a bit busy for the past few days (reading and buying quite a few books!), but I do realize you had updated TWO hcapters to your story!
Just how does Finrod appear at a place SO fast? It's like he has super speed!
It's a good thing Finrod inherited the generous and noble spirit of the Vanyar or else he would be insane by now having to deal with the Valar (...and Namo not least!), being a Reborn, taking up his duties as the ELdest (and only) Prince of the Noldor in Valinor, Glorfindel's recklessness, hostile Eldar, and lastly little Vorondil who happens to cause MANY problems. One more thing to top it off, his oath to make the Valar pay for Elenwe's death!
It's nice that you gave the Herald something else to do other than stand before the doors of Ilmarin and wait upon the Elder King.
I do like the little flashback you had in the story. It's so emotional and the events were so important but coming at a fast pace at the end of the chapter though that I had to reread the parts over again.
You might need to go more in depth with the relationship between Finrod and Elenwe because Finrod's reaction sounds a bit or more than of over-reacting for his cousin's wife even if that cousin was his favorite cousin and also his best friend. I understand that he felt sorrow for all the tragedies and deaths that have been befalling the Noldor and decided to say it after a relative by marriage's death, but there should be more behind their being acquantices for example and that Finrod "saw in her death what the future held for all his loved ones." Fiondil, will you try and add some background info about Elenwe and Finrod?
Nice description of the Aurora Borealis!(at least I hope that was an aurora you were describing in the flashback when you described "Above them curtains of lights, mostly red but sometimes other shades, shimmered all around..." Have you ever seen an Aurora though? I wish I could, but I just can't...*Weep*
Continue your story please!
Namarie!
Author's reply
I've only seen the aurora borealis once when I was ten. They suddenly appeared over us in Central New York, huge shimmering sheets of red, and there was absolute silence, no crackling of electricity or anything. I've never seen them since, but I haven't forgotten them.
Whether Elenwë and Finrod's relationship is ever explored furthyer (in this story) at least) remains to be seen.
Finrod certainly has his hands full, but he's more than capable of handling the pressure... better than Glorfindel at this point in time.

Now that the wool’s dyed, it will need to be carded: another job Glorfindel would rather avoid. Or has the wool already been spun (same wool as before)? No matter -- I don’t think Míriel is eager for Vorondil to do anything else for her.
Míriel’s making a career of entertaining and feeding kings.... Now all she needs is Olwë and she’ll have collected the whole set....
Hm. Finrod’s been reminded about Amarië twice in one day, and she’s coming soon.
Poor Vorondil was promised he *didn’t* have to meet with the Valar. Well, at least (apparently) Sador will be there to hold his hand.
Aha! It’s the tale of “Vorondil and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very *Wet* Day.” [Possibly obscure children’s-librarianish reference to Judith Viorst’s classic picture book about Alexander’s very bad day.]
So now there are additional items to worry/puzzle about -- besides the previous ones: a) whatever reason Ingwion is arriving after everyone else; b) who wins the tournament; c) what happens when the Bad Guys attack; d) the circumstances under which Glorfindel will next see the cloak-pin he made. Now add: 1) whatever Manwë will say to Sador and Vorondil [probably telling them to keep out of the way if mayhem breaks out at the tourney]; 2) Finrod and Amarië [difficult, as Finrod is so busy]; 3) Glorfindel and Ingwë [possibly this afternoon]; 4) what Finrod will do as full-fledged Fëanturinildo [presumably that is a ways in the future; I am imagining something fairly spectacular which shocks Finrod as much as everyone else when he hears himself saying it].
Author's reply
Yes, this is the same wool and I'm sure Miriel is happy that Glorfindel's indenture is almost up and he won't be bringing any of his "thrall friends" home with him. *grin*
I've never read Judith Viorst, but no doubt Someone must have been channeling...
As for your worries/puzzles... that's how I get you and my other readers to come back to the story time and time again. *grin*

Finished at last! Alassiel's fate is interesting - Finrod is inventive. Good thing Vorondil isn't allowed a sword yet, he really attracts disaster.
- I realise my comments are a bit one-sided, no serious, deeper parts of the story touched. It's easier for me to remark on humorous part because it's the good mood that gets me reviewing; when sad or concerned I need more time to process the feelings... and by then the computer is long since off.
- Sorry, my cat is hogging the keyboard, it's time to go.
Author's reply
Don't worry about your comments being one-sided. Any comments are welcome and comments on the humor of a story is as important (for me as the author) as comments on the more serious aspects of a story. Humor is often hard to achieve so I appreciate it when someone thinks I got it right. Thanks for taking the time to review.

Hmmm ... the Noldóran is taking Glorfindel to meet the other two kings? Now I wonder how our favourite balrog-slayer will take this meeting. Somehow I fear that will not go without some incident ... but maybe I’m too suspicious.
Vorondil is a danger to civilization? Finrod could be right *snicker* After the end of this chapter I strongly recommend to keep Vorondil away from any fluids, if even a Maia is not enough to keep an eye on him and him out of trouble! Poor elfling, that was more embarrassment than he can bear in one day! Oh, and I *truly* hope Námo was mistaken and Vorondil doesn’t have to die – somehow I get the feeling if Finrod was threatened, Vorondil would throw himself between his master and any foe.
How very sensible of Sador to tell the others finally about their gift for Amarië! What would they do without Sador? And he even helped to convince Vorondil to go out in spite of his ... uh... coloured state. Though I have the feeling he was at least partly to blame for Vorondil getting Ingwion’s clothes wet *grin* I truly wonder why Manwë wants to talk to them, too.
As for his meeting with Finrod ... it is unimaginable that Námo designed his symbol *so* early. One truly wonders how much he knows about the future ... it’s a bit ... intimidating – can’t find a better word. And the oath was another turn I’d not expected. Considering the circumstances, it was certainly understandable Finrod uttered it in the first place, but still ... what a shock for him to be confronted with it, as he up to then didn’t even remember it! At least Finrod found a way out of it, and for that I am glad. And even more glad I am this was Finrod and not Glorfindel, as I don’t think Glorfindel could have coped with something like that just now.
Can’t wait for more!
Author's reply
Vorondil is certainly the Eldar's answer to "Leave it to Beaver", isn't he? *lol* And thepoor ellon has to suffer from looking different from all the other elflings. Image is everything, it seems, even to adolescent Eldar.
When one considers how "old" the Valar truly are by this time, they can be very intimidating. I have to wonder if even the other Valar or Maiar find Namo's prescience unnervng at times.
Finrod is of course more mature at this point than Glorfindel and is able to process the shock of his memories better and to approach a solution in an adult manner. Certainly Glorfindel would never have come up with the solution Finrod came up with, which was both comprehensive and unique.

"And, of course, the fact that you might therefore avoid having to help me never occurred to you, did it, Glorfindel?" Yes, that was exactly what I thought! It’s clear Glorfindel knew what Míriel planned for the day, after all.
Arafinwë gave Ingwë a piece of his mind, too! :-D I am very pleased, as I still think it was rather unfair to Glorfindel what he did, no matter how useful the whole thing was.
Love the idea that Glorfindel was the one to work on Vairë’s commission, as that is quite a honour, and I have a pretty good idea who will wear the pin.
Our dear Vorondil now had had more punishment than he deserves, with his hair and skin dyed yellow *lol* What did the poor elfling do to you to deserve *that*?
Author's reply
Glorfindel's nobody's fool! He must have thought it was the perfect opportunity to get out of having to help Miriel when Finrod spoke of punishing Vorondil for his attack on Lassezel.

Well, I’m not as imaginative as you are. My idea for Vorondil’s punishment was that since Glorfindel will need someone to help him with his armor during the tournament, Vorondil would have a ball doing that (and would drive everyone crazy talking about it). Instead, you’ve dyed him yellow and invented dark hair with blond highlights.... And with that short haircut ... oh, good grief, it’s worse than I thought! Punk adolescent elves in Valinor ... *winces*
"Well, if anyone deserves being attacked by an elfling, it’s certainly Lord Lassezel" -- Not merely attacked by an elfling, but *subdued* by an elfling! He may never live it down.
Re. the dyeing, since Míriel had 2 kettles going, I’m assuming yellow wasn’t the only color she was dyeing, which means you missed a wonderful opportunity to turn Vorondil bi-colored.... Punk elves indeed....
Glad to hear that Arafinwë scolded Ingwë.
Ah -- I’ve just reread Glorfindel’s meeting with Eönwë. Thanks for the hint.
Author's reply
Glorfindel probably knows that Ingwe has put a strict ban on anyone under age 75 to be a squire or to have anything to do with weapons and armor, which is why Finrod didn't just let Vorondil be his squire rather than having Alassiel do it. So, it would never occur to him to let Vorondil arm him. And this way, Glorfindel gets out of having a dye job. Carding wool was bad enough as far as he's concerned.
"Punk adolescent elves in Valinor ..."
Well, trends have to start somewhere... *lol*
Actually there were more than two kettles going as this was a Guild dyeing "factory" so to speak.

This chapter was great! I can't believe it is your 107th chpter though. That really proves your dedication to your stories! I really do love it when I come a upon an author who writes a lot, but also has very few or no grammar mistakes. It's really hard to find those types of authors sometimes, but on this site it is SO easy.
My favorite part here had to be where Vorondil is exclaiming over how soaked he is with dye and how his Master is going to kill him! It was so funny; I could easily picture what you probably wanted your readers to see when they read that passage of your story.
I am taking it that the Laurelaiquamire is for Mandos. 1) Earlier Vaire you said something about Vaire making a green cloak for her husband, so that means it will match the outfit. 2) An owl is often the symbol of Athena, the goddess of wisdom in Greek Mythology; and Mandos is sometimes referred to in the HOME books as Mandos the Wise. Am I right?
OR, could it be for Yavanna who will then somehow give it to Olorin who will give it to Galadriel as the Elessar stone? I am taking that from the HOME books if you are wondering.
Just wondering is the reader supposed to see the Laurelaiquamire as a greenish-goldish stone?
Namarie!
Author's reply
I can't believe it's my 107th chapter either. I didn't think this story would go much beyond 50 chapters max when I started writing it. *lol* As for the lack of grammar mistakes... I have an excellent beta-mom who has to constantly correct me on the use of "lay" and "lie". I can never get them right and I'm an English teacher!
Vorondil's fear of Finrod killing him over getting soaked with dye was based on my own experience of cutting open my head when I was 14 and all I could say as the blood is flowing was, "My new shirt! Mom is going to kill me!"
As for the pin... we will see for whom it is meant. The Elessar stone is an eagle, though, not an owl. Sorry.
I've seen pictures of chryoprase and it's an apple-green color with golden highlights.

Wasn't expecting the whole oath thing, though loved the ending with the most recent oath to be added. What an odd and interesting and sometimes painful job oath recorder must be! Your portrayal of the majesty of Eonwe and Manwe is exquisite and almost tangible. Poor Finrod always having to cope with so many things from the past that keep cropping up just things seem to be settling down, but I guess that once he reaches a certain point in his healing he is ready for more healing to take place.
I do have to wonder though is perhaps Namo misread what he foresaw concerning Vorondil - I think that that kid will send those around him to Mandos loooong before he goes there himself - if he ever does.
Keep up the most excellent work!
Author's reply
The image of Eonwe as the Recorder of Oaths, not to mention Manwe's Herald, is a nod towards the "Recording Angel" of Catholic tradition but with a definite Middle-earth twist to it. Besides I can't imagine any of the Maiar being just single-purpose beings. No one is.
Healing is a never ending process, I think. Even after death I think healing goes on and as one level of healing is achieved, another level presents itself. As frustrating as that may seem I think it is also very hopeful, for we are always assured of healing even when we do not realize we need it.

Glorfindel is cruel in the whole wool dying punishment, but very clever as well. I love it that he was caught in the act of "delegating: the nasty duty as a punishment for another. Too funny! Arafinwe is an excellent atar. I really like the the way you portray him. The part with the stone was exquisite as was the lesson in being capable of creating as well as destroying. Wasn't expecting the one who comissioned the piece to be who ti was though. Intersting!
Poor Vorondil with the whole dye incident.
What a wonderful story this is!

Yes, Glorfindel is a little sneaky here. Possible payback for what Vorondil did to him. I'm glad you like my rendition of Arafinwe, he started out to be a shadowy character about whom I knew little but he's become quite an interesting person in his own right. He's had much to work through himself so he can be very sympathetic towards others who are struggling with self-esteem issues. He's a good mentor for all three of the Reborn.

Awesome. In light of what has just happened between Finrod and the Valar I have to wonder if a former playmate is about to make an appearance. Manwe's interest in Vorondil is also cause for speculation-hmmm...I can easily see him sacrificing himself for Finrod's wellbeing if circumstances warranted such a choice, at least in Vorondil's way of thinking. He is indeed very young...

Finrod being a "Master" Feanuturindo would necessitate him getting rid of any emotional baggage he might have in order to do his work effectively. Manwe did tell Finrod that Vorondil's Judgment would have unforseen consequences and he is naturally interested in giving the ellon a "spiritual check-up".

I’ve an idea of what Glorfindel might have in mind for Vorondil’s punishment. If I’m right, Vorondil will be thrilled.
So can Finrod see where Manveru is, or is he inferring that the normal place would be behind Glorfindel?

Glorfindel still has some "issues" about what has happened but hopefully things will work out and we'll finally see him reconciled with Ingwë.

So Finrod has ensured that the Bad Guys can’t break into the encampment or shoot into it from the trees. That just means they’ll have to do something *else*! I’m no tactician, but I postulate a bit of mayhem at the end of the tourney, when everyone’s tired and some are injured.... Maybe when everyone’s attention is focused on the same spot....
Ingwion arriving at the last minute -- Hm. Wondering what that portends (not so much for Ingwion, but why the sneaky author needed to have him arrive separately from the majority).
Glorfindel still pulling lint out of his hair from carding wool -- That made me laugh, as originally and etymologically “lint” pertains to linen or flax. [Have the Valar been exploring genetic engineering? Does Aman have sheep that grow linsey-woolsey?]
Arafinwë was dismounting with the intention of wiping the ground with the insolent elf -- Good for him! And I rather regret that we didn’t get to see it....

Magnificent description! I could imagine every little bit of the tent. From the rugs to the firepit.
Finrod sure is sneaky. Advising Ingwe to take advantage of Glorfindel's foolishness to turn him into bait. Ooohhh....Finrod better stear clear of Glorfindel whenever someone brings up the subject of GLorfindel's thralldom for a yeni at the least...Even though Finrod is my favorite character, I think that Glorfindel has FULL rights to beat Finrod for takling and dealing about him behind his back. Finrod had no right to do what he did no matter how much good it might do. He and Ingwe should at least have forewarned Glorfindel about what they were going to do... *Sheesh...What does it take to get some respect around here?*
Why wouldn't GLorfindel rebraid his hair for the New YEar and the Tournament? They are just braids since he is already a full-fledged warrior.
Also what was GLorfindel talking about when he asked Finrod whom he would have given him to? Who is the person he did not want to be given to anyway?
I agree though that Finrod would never hurt any person who is below him and that is basically all the Eldar of Eldamar unless they REALLY deserved it. He just isn't that type of elf. When you research the elven descendants of Finwe(not counting the half-elven) you see that there are different qualities that define each of them. This is going to be in Quenya though. Maitamo, Tyelcormo, Carnistir, the 2 Ambarussas, Findekano, even Aredhel, Angarato, and Aikanaro are all basically warriors. The best of them being probably Maitamo, FIndekano,Angarato, and Aikanaro are always considered strong and fierce in battle. Whereas in the other group are Turakano, Findarato, and Alatariel who are better known as the diplomats and *the wise*; those who do not like to fight with use of arms. Yeah, I guess that is all to back up that Finrod wouldn't beat up Vorondil. *WOW! I think I need to shut up, but I am very sorry I just CAN'T!*
WHAT IS Glorfindel planning for him and Vorndil to do. Is it a plan to take revenge on Finrod? Or anyone else for that matter? OR am I just trying TOO hard snooping around your papers? I am going to take a wild guess though that it has to do with the tournament or the New Year like everything else is. Once the tournament ends it will be SO much easier to predict because it will most likely take place at something big and that leaves the New YEar, which gives moi a higher chance of being correct! *Yay Me!!!!*
How powerful is Finrod now? Could he equal a Maia's? That is only because something keeps telling me that an elf gets stronger after coming from Mandos.
Another, was Alassiel born during the Tree Years? It's so confusing with ages...*Moan*
Okay, this will be the last bit. Will, which I do hope, find out what they were discussing at the end? Or were they just 'Catching Up' on what had happened to them while seperated? Does it have anything to do with Prince Ingwion?
Namarie!!!!!!!!
P.S. Fiondil, SEE!!!! >_< *Look* This review is not like my one with all the afterthoughts!!! HA-Ha!!!
Author's reply
Finrod was probably the one that decided not to tell Glorfindel what might happen. He probably thought it best not to "stage" anything but just allow Glorifndel to be Glorfindel, knowing that at some point his emotional immaturity would trip him up, giving Ingwë the opening he needed to set Glorfindel up as bait. There could be no forewarning because they would not know in advance what would set Glorfindel off.
The warrior braids are more than "just braids", but a symbol of who he is and what he has experienced. It would be the equivalent of someone in the military refusing to wear their uniform.
Glorfindel's question to Finrod was related to what Ingwë did. Glorfindel is asking Finrod if he, Finrod, would have done to him, Glorfindel, what Ingwë did, i.e. given him to Martandur as the jewel-smith's thrall. Finrod, of course, says he would if he could not have seen another way of handling the situation.
Alassiel was born rather late in the First Age. She was still an elfling when her father went to fight in the War of Wrath and was killed. Her mother is actually a contemporary of Finrod (they played together as elflings), so Finrod only met Alassiel after his return to Aman.
As for anything else... you'll just have to be patient and wait for future chapters to explain things. Sorry.

It’s as I had feared – Glorfindel didn’t take it very well to learn how much Finrod actually knew and that he was the one to advice Ingwë to use Glorfindel as a bait once again. I am glad Finrod didn’t allow him to walk away like that. To be reminded of the mólanoldor through his thralldom ... poor Glorfindel.
But it was absolutely sweet of Vorondil to go to Glorfindel and try to comfort him. Now I’m curious what Glorfindel has in mind for him.
And it is nice to know the friends are together again and have time to catch up on everything.
Author's reply
Glorfindel is feeling very conflicted... on the one hand he still resents what was done to him and by whom... on the other hand he's just savvy enough to realize the necessity for it ruse. It doesn't make it easier for him though when he realizes that his own "gwador" was involved in what he would consider his humiliation. And certainly the memory of how the mólanoldor were treated by their own people did not help.
I'm sure everyone got a kick out of seeing Vorondil try to comfort Glorfindel when one remembers that only a few months earlier Vorondil was seen kicking him, spitting on him and stealing his ring. Quite a change, but then Judgment does that to a person....

Ah, finally the tournament! *beams*
Glad to know at least Haldir’s mother is showing sense and welcoming her son back – I hope his father did use his exile well to think about his behaviour. And it’s nice that Mithlas is with them, too. Not to mention Vorondil reunited with his parents.
I can imagine the encampment so well – all these tents, banners flying, and all ... must be wonderful to be there.
It as fun to watch Finrod taking over. He is perfectly right, of course – if the remaining baddies who are still free do plan anything, this large gathering would be a good occasion, so more guards are certainly no luxury. Why do I get the feeling if anything is about to happen, the Amaneldi have to rely on the Tol Eressëans for their own safety, as they themselves are not primed for it?
I’d not minded if Arafinwë had wiped the ground with this arrogant Vanyar, but the reaction of Finrod and the others wasn’t bad, either. And Vorondil ... *shakes head* Honestly, if you’d have told me around the trial he would be so overeager to defend Finrod, I’d questioned your sanity *grin* He’s a sweet elfling, and somehow I’m not convinced he deserves punishment at all - he was trying to protect Finrod, after all. Even if he shouldn’t have attacked the elf, I don’t mind the beating Lassezel got. He was rather condescending, and he should have guessed from the way others obeyed him that Finrod is no common elf and have been more cautious.

I drew on my memories of medieval war re-creation events via the Society for Creative Anachronism for the encampment and eventually the tournament itself.
Finrod is working on long experience of armed encampments in Middle-earth about which the Amaneldi know nothing. He simply takes over as a matter of course and the Tol Eressëan elves at least recognize his authority to do so. Lassezel on the other hand obviously refuses to recognize Finrod's authority and that's where he gets into trouble.
As for Vorondil's punishment... it won't be that bad, I promise, but Finrod needs to teach him how to act appropriately to the situation, something the elfling hasn't gotten a handle on yet.

Finally! Thank you so-so much! Muchas gracias! You have updated and the tournament has come at last! Who will win? What though is the prize? Does it mean that elf goes back to Endor? It just came to me, HOW and WHEN will Glorfindel go back to Endor? Fiondil, I do hope it is not soon though. I am ECSTATIC about this story! It would actually have to be in 2nd place in my Top5 favorite fanfics.
I liked the description at the beginning. It was easy to imagine the gray, rainy weather turn to sunny fine weather fit for the tournament. I am glad there is a tournament for it will force the elves in a way to get to actually know those, in particular the Amaneldi, whom they have treated unfairly and cruelly toward the Reborn and the Tol Eresseans. *_*
AAAAWWWW... How sweet! Vorondil who I just remembered is only an elfling gets to be reunited for a short while with his parents. And ALassiel has changed immensly. When you first introduced her when GLorfindel went to Vanyamar for the first time to now where she is under the care of her older cousin.
Finrod is making great use of Vorondil. HE now has his own washer and dry cleaner for FREE!!!!!! Now isn't that useful? I wonder shouldn't he learn that chore because I am sure Amarie (If they wed) does NOT want to be the one taking care of the laundry all the time till DAgor Dagorath. He would probably annoy her to death with his ignorance of housecleaning. I do hope though that his image of elleth is better because he does not seem like the type of elf to think Elleth BELOW him. What's your opinion?
My favorite part here would have to be where the VAnyarin lord grabs Findarato's arm and Finrod reacts by pulling a hidden knife and putting it at the Lord's throat. I could see it clearly when I read the words. ANother reason I like this scene is because Vorondil comes up and starts beating and shouting at the Vanyarin Lord. It's SO adorable.
I do have to disgree with Finrod on one thing and that is punishing Vorondil no matter how fun the punishment might end up. It is unjust. All Vorondil was doing was PROTECTING his MASTER from someone who was trying to HURT his MASTER.
What came next though was funny. When Ingwe asks his fellow Kings if they have anything to say hten Arafinwe sort of randomly asks his son " 'What's a double patrol?' " It's funny at least to me because when you read the previous lines it comes out a bit...well... different... from what the reader expected to hear from the Noldoran.
Did Sador tell at the end line that he had given Amarie a Begetting Day Gift while he was off frolicking (just kidding...) in Lorien?

So, if Elf Interrupted is No. 2 on your list, what's No. 1? *grin*
As to what the prize for the tournament will be, we'll have to wait and see, though I suspect that a return ticket to Endórë is NOT it. *lol*
I'm sure that Finrod's idea of punishing Vorondil will not be considered a punishment at all but he does need to teach Vorondil that some things are not appropriate behavior for elflings and thralls. And of course, Vorondil knows he was in the wrong. As for Finrod's take on elleths: he has nothing but respect for them and their abilities. After all, he's made Alassiel his squire and though it's part of her "rehabilitation" program it still points out his willingness to train her in arms, something that humans often consider a "man's" perogative while women stayed home and had babies.
I suspect that Ingwë fully expected Arafinwë to back him up against Finrod and was just as surprised as anyone when Arafinwë goes on a completely different tack with his question, especially when you consider that Finrod mentioned double patrols way before Ingwë showed up.

Oh, very tough for Glorfindel to hear that Finrod had a part in or at least knew that something might happen with him AND that he would have let him be a thrall if it had been the only way to catch the others. One of the tough things about being a king, though I suspect this might be part of his responsibility as a servant of Irmo and Namo. Vorondil trying to comfort Glorfindel was priceless and made me smile and it seemed to work, which was the best thing. :)
I'm glad that the group of them had the chance to finally have some time together!
Author's reply
Finrod is finally coming into his own as he claims his 'kingship' and continues to be Irmo and Námo's apprentice and all that that entails. It isn't easy to be and it isn't easy for Glorfindel to accept (yet). While Glorfindel has the memory of being a lord of one of the Houses of Gondolin he has no experience of kingship the way Finrod has, so it's hard for him to accept the fact that his "gwador" would do something like that to him, even for a good cause. It'll take time for him to come to acceptance, but then he's still "young" and has yet to mature to the point where he can accept it on more than just an intellectual level.
Vorondil trying to comfort Glorfindel is priceless consider their previous history. I'm sure everyone is happy to be reunited again even if things aren't quite the same between them anymore.

I do so love when Finrod becomes 'kingly'. :) That his father, uncle, and grandfather are all non-plussed by it makes it even better - I especially liked that Arafinwe was amazed that Finrod didn't need to monitor his people to make sure they were doing his bidding. It tells you that he needs to, which is interesting. In dark and desperate times you have to depend on people completely and you can't be watching them every step of the way - what's the point of that? You may as well do it yourself!
Alassiel and Vorondil are going to have an 'interesting' time at the tournament and I don't envy either one of them, especially Alassiel as no one knows what has gone on with her and I doubt she'll want to tell them. Looking forward to seeing how that plays out. :)

The fun thing about Finrod going "kingly" is that everyone who isn't from Middle-earth can't get their minds around that image. They only remember Finrod as the son of Finwë's youngest son, or they remember what he was like when he was first released from Lórien after being Reborn. I'm sure some of them still have difficulty seeing Arafinwë as Noldóran instead of his father, Finwë.
In this scene Finrod's father, grandfather and uncle, all of whom are kings in their own right, see Finrod actually acting as any king would in the issuing of orders. What amazes them, I think, is the readiness in which the Sindar, Nandor and Exilic Noldor obey Finrod without question, even though many of them never lived in Nargothrond nor would they have considered Finrod as "their" king at the time. That has to be very unsettling for them, since it's contrary to their image of him.

Aww.. The boys are all back together again. I can't wait to see what Glorfindel's idea of a punishment is. That should be fun.

We'll find out what Glorfindel considers suitable punishment in the next chapter. Stay tuned...
