That was short but good! Who knew old Tom was still hanging about in California? Creepy, though. What's happened to Jimmy???

Darkover · 2 February 2011 · Chapter 1: Green Magic

Dear G.A.: Wow! An entertaining story, and one that I thought was going to be lighthearted, until I read the ominious ending! I really should not have enjoyed the ending as much as I did, but I heartily dislike spoiled, sullen teenagers. Anyway, I very much enjoyed this story. People should listen to Old Tom, shouldn't they? Thanks for writing and posting this. Sincerely, Darkover

A leaf-strewn jacket trailed out of the open door. Resting on its muddy sleeve, the GameBoy flashed a message: “Game Over.” ROTFLOL! Perfect!

Thanks!

How about an open car door and jacket and Gameboy lying on the ground? Hehe. That'd do it :-) Kid would never leave his Gameboy behind.

Check out the last paragraph now. G.A.

Oh, I love the idea of Tom Bombadil as an eccentric forest ranger, shooing the trees away from unsuspecting visitors. But....huh? Complete? Did surly Game Boy kid get on the wrong side of a black-hearted tree? Enquiring readers want to know. Or to see the drag marks on the ground, at least...

Oh, that was delightfully creepy. Lovely cliffy, too.

Author's reply

I'm glad you "enjoyed" it. Thanks for reviewing! G.A.

Oooh! Maybe you should have waited to post this one for Hallowe'en! Definitely Twilight-Zone city, or maybe a case for the X-files. Oh God, that's a funny picture right there — Maulder and Scully interviewing Tom Bombadil! You just can't leave it like that! You HAVE to write another chapter or three so we can find out what happened to the 'sullen teenager'.

Author's reply

Mulder and Scully interviewing Tom Bombadil! It's inspired! I leave the sullen teenager to your imagination. G.A.

Episcopal Witch · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 1: Green Magic

Ack! You can't leave it there!! That poor mom!!! Besides...the danger lies not at the intersection but further into the woods, so if the car is empty, it's most likely because Jimmy voluntarily got out and left it, and the likely reason for that would be that he regretted staying behind, even though he might have cloaked his thoughts to himself as "Might as well explore this stupid forest" instead of "I wish I'd gone with my family." And what good is Tom if he protects only cheerful, friendly people? Powerful, creepy little piece.

Author's reply

Maybe Jimmy left the car to pee on a tree.... G.A.

"Old Tom is still guarding the forest". How lovely! I do think that Old Mother Willow may find she bites off more than she wanted if she tries to take on 'sullen teenager"! "Tasty boy"? I think not! Delightful visit of one of my favorite people to another part of earth. Some of us still like to believe in everyday magic!

Author's reply

Oh, old Tom is still around, all right...and it's Old Mother Oak he's guarding against. Jimmy's end is still in question. Thanks for reading! G.A.

harrowcat · 9 October 2006 · Chapter 1: Green Magic

Glad to see that Tom is still alive and well and lworking with his beloved forests. Definitely creepy ending to this!

Author's reply

Tom Bombadil "is," after all! As long as the forests last! Thanks for reading! G.A.

Wow, and here I was thinking it would be an encounter with Elves. Nothing so friendly, I fear. I was actually in the Redwoods just a few weeks ago. I saw quite a few that could have been Ents, and one or two with suggestions of Old Man Willow, but I managed to escape. Now I'm thankful that I did! Very nicely done, and the last line just ratchets the whole tale up to another level. Beautiful work.

Author's reply

A visit to the Muir Woods inspired this tale. Ents and Huorns appeared in abundance. I'm glad you liked the story, and thanks for reviewing. G.A.

So, Tom's in the forests north of San Francisco, eh? And some children will NOT listen no matter what. Now--where's Andy's brother? Will we find out what happened to him, and if his own adventure brings him to a better end than the beginning promises?

Author's reply

Don't know about that! Jimmy's fate may remain unknown....as a warning to others. G.A.

Mum's the Word · 8 October 2006 · Chapter 1: Green Magic

Tom's in Yosemite?! *makes vacation plans* That explains why he seems so familiar: he was that forestry-seminar leader back in the '70s! And he's so right about those trails. *love Tom Bombadil* What an adventure! But what happened to Jimmy? Maybe Tom'll find him and help him learn a few important lessons?

Author's reply

Actually, Tom is hanging out in Marin County, where the Coastal Redwoods are. If Jimmy is lucky, he'll end up a Ranger apprentice...maybe. Thanks for reviewing! G.A.

Armariel · 8 October 2006 · Chapter 1: Green Magic

Oh good gracious! Is there more? whoaaaaaa.....Demons and Devils, hmmm....Well, I guess old man Willow got a crawfull..... Very cute! heheh ~~~{~@

Author's reply

Tasty boy for lunch, eh? Or not so tasty.... G.A.

Jay of Lasgalen · 8 October 2006 · Chapter 1: Green Magic

Ooh - creepy! But that's what happens when travellers ignore old Tom. But what happened to the other boy? He's a typical sullen teenager, but doesn't deserve Old Man Willow.

Author's reply

My muse hasn't told me his fate yet, so we may never know.... G.A.

Raksha The Demon · 8 October 2006 · Chapter 1: Green Magic

Oops. Jimmy should have stayed with his mother. Well, he wanted demons...His mother's better off without him, anyway. Very good, funny with a vein of real scariness.

Author's reply

"Better off without him"? My, you have a hard heart! Perhaps Alcatraz would have been better, though! G.A.

vampfan30 · 8 October 2006 · Chapter 1: Green Magic

Author's reply

I was aiming for scary, so---thanks! G.A.
