Hi, Are you going to complete this story?
Anika Livo · 21 June 2019 · Chapter 37: An Escape Attempted
Noooooo! You can't stop there! Please, please, more, quickly! I love this story. It has so many great characters to follow and threads to want resolved!
Matt · 14 February 2017 · Chapter 37: An Escape Attempted
You've doubtless heard from others on this but just a quick check-in to see if you ever have plans to complete this story. I was not a fan when I read it originally because I've always felt there neededto be more, not less, openness about the challenges we face, and so Frodo felt a little too defensive for me. Still, a little older and a little .... less radical, and I'm very curious to see what happens here, particularly with an attack as the now eight-year cliffhanger. Thanks loads for your hard work on this tale so far and in advance for picking it back up again.

Sure hope your going to finish this story.

So I've just treated myself to a full re-read of this lovely story, but I'd forgotten what a cliffhanger you left it on! Never mind, it's such a joy to immerse myself in the wonderful detail and depth you created for us in the Master's world.
Author's reply
I hope to get "Stirring Rings" finished and return to a few others. I hope you appreciate I do intend to finish this--eventually! Thanks!
Mongwen · 5 July 2015 · Chapter 1: Land Claimed
I do hate to be a nuisance, but do you intend to complete this tale? I've been watching it for years as I've read your other completed stuff again and again, but this one never appears to be updated and doesn't seem to be complete. I only read completed stories, but felt it'd be better to review here than attach the question to some other tale.
Author's reply
Oh, yes, I do intend to complete this. It's only I've been letting Stirring Rings languish, too, and need to complete it first. Except the other plot bunnies and nuzguls keep grabbing me, too.... Thanks so!
NotACat · 3 June 2015 · Chapter 14: In Bree
I think I spotted a typo: "He was not found guilty of murder and executed…" Surely there's at least a "not" missing there?
Author's reply
I was running the two results together, letting the one "not" stand for both, although perhaps I ought to have added the second "not," too. But you missed the dog "peaking" around Alvric's legs! "Peek" and "Peak" are two of my greatest bugaboos, I find. I know I have left this story unfinished for an unconscionably long time, but once I have finally finished "Stirring Rings" I hope to return to this one and "Or Perchance." Have a start on the next chapter, and hope to continue working on it later today.
Dreamflower · 11 June 2014 · Chapter 37: An Escape Attempted
I was in the mood to re-read this so far as it went! I forgot you stopped with a cliffie! I don't supposed you'll be updating anytime soon? (This really is such an intriguing story!)
Author's reply
I am desperately trying to finish Stirring Rings first, but am sitting on the kidnapping of Celebrian at the moment, and am finding it difficult to write, just as I found in this story it was hard to choose which alternative would happen to Bob's older son. It will be addressed, hopefully before I die, at least! Heh!
Anonymous · 17 July 2013 · Chapter 37: An Escape Attempted
wow? love love this story! when are you going to update? I can't wait to see reaction of Ferny and Angrapain when they face the Rangers!
Author's reply
As I've commented to others, I am planning to finish this--once I've finished with "Stirring Rings," which I have most of the next chapter outlined by now and hope to have written and posted soon. But I've had another little nuzgul pretending to be a simple plot bunny attack me, and I'm having to deal with it at the moment. Aargh! So many ideas, so little time and energy at the moment! Heh!
Elena Tiriel · 7 August 2012 · Chapter 37: An Escape Attempted
Hi Larner, Just discovered this story, and read it right through. Not sure how I missed it before, but I'm so glad to be able to enjoy it now. I particularly love how well you draw your characters, how distinct and unique each one is, and how believably they deal with one another. You've made me really care about them, and now I'm worried about what happens to the Hedges! If there's any chance you can continue with this story, I'd love to encourage you (though I certainly know how fickle muses can be....) Very well written, Larner! Thank you for sharing your prodigious talent with us. - Barbara
Author's reply
There are three stories I've left abandoned for far too long--this one, Stirring Rings, and Or Perchance. I promised I'd finish Stirring Rings first, and then probably Or Perchance, and finally this one. I'm at a sort of sticking point in this one--does or does not Holfast survive the assault by the escaped prisoners? What's your take on the situation? I too have come to love the Hedges and grieve at the thought of such a loss to them. Thanks, Barbara. I finally am on new territory with Stirring Rings, having just sent the next chapter regarding Nimrodel and Amroth off to Fiondil for betaing. Next comes a brief glimpse of Mithrellas and Imrazor the Numenorean, and then the loss of Earnur. It should be interesting to see how those three chapters are received.
Szepilona10 · 31 December 2010 · Chapter 35: Moving Toward a Wedding
I love this chapter...Petunia is my favorite of your hobbits and this helps me to think that one day I too will be recognized as the pretty, grown up one in my family. (but with 3 older sisters that might take a while.) On a side note, I went to Amish Country with my family yesterday and I am now drinking the ginger beer I got there! (It's a bit spicy but I like it, I see now why Ricki always wants to have some!) ~Szepilona10~
Szepilona10 · 22 December 2009 · Chapter 30: Time of Discovery
So, I guess sibling rivelry lasts forever. I wonder if my sisters and I will still have our stupid arguments in ten years. When's Teregion going to start his training? Does he have any younger sisters? Or are his sisters all older? Does he have any brothers? Is he related to Aragorn closely? Sorry, I've been extreamly inquisitive lately; reading and comparing books with their movie conterparts. The most recent book is Les Miserables. We watched the movie in French class and my teacher kept raving about how good the book was, so I decided to read it! Anyway, I will close up this, my long review, for I must go to bed. God Bless! ~Szepilona10~ P.S. Have you ever read Les Miserables?

He is a stubborn cuss, I'll admit. Very literally minded, and not good at thinking outside the box. He can be a pain, but I'm finding myself feeling rather sorry for him at this point. He has a good family, though. I really like Pet and Persivo.
Soledad · 17 January 2009 · Chapter 37: An Escape Attempted
You are evil! You finally update Tenant, and now leave us trembling with fear for Boboli's family. I just hope when work decides to spit me out next time Halladan & Co have already dealt with the issue. ;)
Author's reply
Sorry about that, Soledad. And how long it will take to write the next chapter I can't say as yet. Heh!
Fiondil · 15 January 2009 · Chapter 37: An Escape Attempted
Yes! I despaired of ever seeing another update of this story. And now we're seeing Angrapain again. Slimey character (and I'm being polite *grin*). I love it that a whole contingent of Rangers led by Halladan are there. He's one of my favorite of your OCs, btw, and I always love to see him in action, either as a Ranger or as Steward for the Northern Realm. I look forward to another chapter soon.
Author's reply
It's taking time, but wanted to sort of coordinate the latests chapters from Tenant and Rings, so this one has been delayed--plus holidays and trying to weed out all the plot bunnies and nuzguls that are infesting the place! I can't tell what some of them want me to do yet, and it's getting more and more difficult to tell the young nuzguls from the adolescent plotbunnies, I'm finding--either that, or they're continuing to pass those ear headbands about! Am so glad you like Halladan--I, do, too, of course. And the next chapter will come when it will, I suspect. As long as I don't go almost a year again between updates! Gaack! Thanks so very much, Fiondil.
Kitty · 15 January 2009 · Chapter 37: An Escape Attempted
Sorry, Larner, haven’t been much at home over the last days and getting behind in reviewing more and more. To see the name Angrapain here was a little surprise. So that one is trying to get away? He didn’t learn his lesson well, I fear – still thinking himself above the law and more clever than the Rangers? Well, he will get a nasty surprise then. And he should remember Aragorn’s sentence: If you are seen anywhere but in her presence, you will be hung summarily. So I think we know what’s to follow for him in the end. And he chose the perfect companions. Bill Ferny! Somehow that pleased me very much, as that means that guy will get his final comeuppance, too, I guess. Oh, and Bill broke his leg when he kicked him? Very good :D And I see that one has no idea who Strider is. I hope you will give him his clue! *grin* Hm – Angrapain still insists that being close friends and loving each other implies more? *shakes head* Some people obviously can’t see further than their own very limited sight of the world. Now I only hope these three thugs don’t hurt Holdfast – and I was rubbing my hands in glee when Boboli returned with Halladan and the others and they realised so fast that something was wrong. Maybe they saw tracks of the shackles? Can’t wait to see how they take care of the situation – and certainly look forward to Angrapain seeing Halladan again, who knows him very well!
Author's reply
I've been pressed for time between work and everything else myself! Who am I to judge? Yes, Angrapain is going to probably face the very fate I'm certain he thought would never come his way. And it was fun to work Ferny into this, although I rather like some of the fates others have imagined for him, too! As for what will happen to Holdfast--that we will be learning soon, I hope! Thanks so very much!
cookiefleck · 14 January 2009 · Chapter 37: An Escape Attempted
Eeek! Obviously it's time for Sam to throw another apple - or worse - at Bill Ferny!
Author's reply
Oh, I do think you might well have the right of it, Cookiefleck! Heh!
Sunny · 14 January 2009 · Chapter 37: An Escape Attempted
Angrapain hasn’t learned a thing, has he? Halladan is certain to have gotten a report from Aragorn on him and the terms of his punishment (and if he hasn’t, I am certain Alvric knows more than a bit). And the company he is keeping now isn’t more likely to see much mercy from a judge either. I _do_ hope Holdfast comes out of this more or less intact. Well, whether or not he _does_, rescue is already on the way. :-) And I expect both Angrapain and his newfound “friends” to find out just _who_ those ragged-looking Rangers, and the even more suspicious Strider, are. Do you think your muse is likely to heed any prodding toward _Stirring Rings_? I know there is likely to be quite a few chapters before you get that far, but I am interested in finding out what will happen with Maglor, and I won’t find _that_ out before those intervening chapters are written… Not that I mind her Dol Amroth distraction, though ;-)
Author's reply
If you remember, Halladan was there when Angrapain received his judgment from Aragorn, so he knows what's what with the fool. And you're certainly right about the company he's keeping as well, and how all of them will have quite the lesson about those raggedy Rangers. Will be working on Stirring Rings again next, I think. But the plot bunnies and nuzguls are multiplying around here so! Heh!
harrowcat · 14 January 2009 · Chapter 37: An Escape Attempted
Ooh Larner, I am very glad to see this updated. I knew that we hadn't seen the last of Angrapain & co. Please don't leave us too long to find out what happens next!
Author's reply
Now to find out what these three have earned for themselves! Am working on the next chapter to Stirring Rings, first, then this one, I think--unless this one grabs hold and won't let go, of course!
Szepilona10 · 14 January 2009 · Chapter 37: An Escape Attempted
You finaly updated!!! Yippy! Great chapter! Update soon please! God Bless! ~Szepilona10~

I'll be trying, Szepilona, believe me! Am glad it pleases! Heh!
Dreamflower · 14 January 2009 · Chapter 37: An Escape Attempted
*grin* Oh wow! We get to see Angrapain finally get his real come-uppance, and Bill Ferny as well! *grins some more and rubs hands* Looks like Angrapain hasn't learned a thing. Not that I *really* expected he'd learn much except what it was like not to be able to tell people what to do. I'm glad he decided not to kill his mistress, even if for selfish reasons. And the idiot still has not figured out yet that not everyone is motivated by the same things that he is. A lot like Sauron, or Saruman. It really leads to underestimating others--especially those percieved as "lower" than himself. (And to that sort of mentality, almost everyone else qualifies as "lower".) I forgot about your disposal of Bill Ferny, and I'm afraid I don't remember who that other man is. So it'e interesting to see them enter into this escape attempt.
Author's reply
I had never detailed the disposal of Bill Ferny--I just figured that once the folk of Bree realized that the Rangers were the King's folk they'd denounce Ferny, particularly if it were known he'd been hiding out in the Shire. They might not be certain what Bill had done there, but they had to be certain, knowing him, it was nefarious, so of course he'd most likely end up on a road gang. I never introduced the other man--just one taken by the Rangers for highway robbering and intending not to learn from the experience or accept the chance for redemption, who instead will go for about anything nefarious! I just hope that Holdfast doesn't end up getting hurt along the way!
Rhyselle · 14 January 2009 · Chapter 37: An Escape Attempted
Oooh! A cliff hanger! I love how you bring strands from your other tales into the current one, weaving such an intricate storied web. :) I do hope that this time around Ferny does buy it... but, so far, he's like a bug that no amount of stomping seems to kill. It was good to see the alert for this chapter come up, as this is one of my favorite stories! Another well-deserved "Well Done!" for this one!
Author's reply
Am so glad you're continuing to follow this, Rhyselle. And you know me--I'll always weave them together, I think. I suspect this is the last chance for Ferny, although once it's realized what he did in the Shire he may be in for a true awakening. And, yes, a cliff hanger in this one! Heh!
