I will wrap my arms and my heart around those memories until I can wrap them around you again. Lovely Antane.

Hantanyel, my dear! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Queen Galadriel · 24 April 2007 · Chapter 51: Perfect Little Orc

Oh, this gets me all choked up so that I wish I had the physical energy for tears. The imagery in this chapter is again beautiful (especially that of the wind being a kiss of farewell), and Frodo's humour in that moment of darkness startled me the first time too (and now is somehow both poignant and delightful). That's our Frodo. :) Interesting that you should describe such a dream. I actually did dream something like that once--weary Frodo and Sam walking side by side along a rough path towards darkness with a bright light beyond, and there was music in the background, either "The Road Goes Ever On" or "May It Be," I don't remember which. The irony of Sam lightly calling Frodo a "perfect little Orc" when Frodo is so opposite of that never struck me before. God bless, Galadriel

Author's reply

I liked that kiss too and the fact that he could joke at such a time. :) His dream, though he knows it not, is their entrance from the West into Heaven, but I like your dream too. Sorry you are so exhausted you can't even cry - hope you are feeling better, ammelda! Namarie, God bless, Melinyel, Antane :)

Larner · 24 April 2007 · Chapter 51: Perfect Little Orc

Oh, I'd forgotten that little jibe, the one intended to break the tension of not knowing if they'd even get out of the tower, much less into Mordor proper. And glad Sam could feel that love there and then, for he needed it dearly.

Author's reply

Hantanyel, dear Larner! I always loved what Sam said then and why he said it. He was created to do just that - to carry Frodo, emotionally and then physically, to love him enough to get him to the Fire. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Armariel · 22 April 2007 · Chapter 50: Hold Me

Lovely....is this all there is? ~~~{~@

Author's reply

All for the moment, but not all all. More to come as I find time to translate what's left. Hantanyel for all your kind reviews! Glad you have caught up and enjoyed! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Armariel · 22 April 2007 · Chapter 49: Alone

*shudder* The memory of Frodo's nightmarish capture is portrayed wiht uncanny believability here. (Am dealing with this part once more myself and I'm wanting to shy away from it somehow) But I really think Rosie could deal with it and Sam should tell her more;);) ~~~{~@

Author's reply

I'm terribly late in thanking you for this! But I'm glad you thought it was realistic, unfortnately. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Armariel · 22 April 2007 · Chapter 48: Choices

The most touching chapter yet *sniff* Must have been very hard for Frodo to lose Sam's mother--like losing his own all over again. You conveyed that sorrow beautifully here. ~~~{~@

Armariel · 22 April 2007 · Chapter 47: The Spider's Lair

A "pocket of sunshine"? Very nice turn of phrase and image. The idea that Frodo would do for Sam's mother's grave as he would do for his own is very appealing. ~~~{~@

Larner · 20 April 2007 · Chapter 50: Hold Me

The image of the black pit each feels himself a fallen into is terrible, yet the Light is there for the both of them, giving both great hope. A thoughtful chapter; and glad Sam is able to share this silently with Elanor.

Author's reply

Glad you enjoyed, dear Larner! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

harrowcat · 20 April 2007 · Chapter 50: Hold Me

Sometimes all we can do is physically be there for someone. I am glad that Sam has learned to accept that comfort from Merry and Pippin.

Queen Galadriel · 19 April 2007 · Chapter 50: Hold Me

Oh, pain! You'd think Frodo's parts of this would tear me up the most, because his is the greater suffering (maybe), but while they do break my heart, Sam's parts are always what are really gut-wrenchingly painful. To miss all those little things does hurt so much, I know. Sorry, I can't write more because I don't have the words...and I have homework still waiting for me. God bless, Galadriel

Author's reply

Well as we both know Sam-angst is harder to take than Frodo-angst. We know that happened, but the tale ends before we get to how much Sam must have suffered the loss of half of his heart and soul for so long and Merry and Pippin. They seem in the tale to have recovered very quickly but how could it be so? Namarie, God bless, Melinyel, Antane :)

Queen Galadriel · 15 April 2007 · Chapter 49: Alone

I am glad to see another chapter of this, even if it is, as usual, angsty. "Angsty" seems shallow to describe this, but then, *is* there a right word? Oh, the thought of what the Orcs would surely have done if not for Shagrat makes me shudder, even though they didn't do it. I'm glad they left that gift unspoiled. Poor Sam! Those dreams would be torture, and I do think it would feel worse to wake and wish to find Frodo so desperately but know that he couldn't, not yet. Keep it up! God bless, Galadriel

Author's reply

Yes, a bit shallow unfortunately. I was getting a little teary-eyed myself with Sam's part. I'm glad the gift remained unopened too. Thanks for your review, ammelda! Namarie, God bless, Melinyel, Antane :)

Larner · 15 April 2007 · Chapter 49: Alone

Yes, Frodo and Sam have one another to rejoice for, to be grateful for, and to anticipate seeing once more, when the time is right. And for all the violation of spirit Frodo has known, he yet has remained far more pure than he realizes. It will take a time on Tol Eressea to come to that realization, I think.

Author's reply

I think any rape victim would feel this way but he was filled with filth, but not filthy himself. You're right that it would take a while for him to realize that. Thank you for the review, dear Larner! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

harrowcat · 15 April 2007 · Chapter 49: Alone

Welcome back Antane and a Blessed Easter to you. But what a chapter to come back with - urgh! *shivers*. Dreams can be so vivid. But, may be Sam is underestimating his Rosie.

Author's reply

Happy Easter right back to you, dear harrowcat! I knew this would not be a nice chapter to start off with but the tower scene is my favorite in the book for its loving reunion which I hope to get to tonight if I'm lucky. (It's my favorite in the BBC adaptation for that complete meltdown Frodo has, wow is that vivid or what, I had no idea reading it that is what is going on and then I think of how very deliberately calm he is in the movie during the same scene and how much strength that took to restrain what he couldn't in the book or radio. I figure he did because he had already attacked Sam with Sting and he didn't want to put his brother through that again). Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Armariel · 14 February 2007 · Chapter 48: Choices

Sweeeeetttt!!! That is lovely about F comforting S after the death of his mum, and S resolving to take care of his master. I read a story some time back something along those lines. Can't remember the title, or if the author ever finished it, but it was lovely. ~~~{~@

Author's reply

Hantanyel, dear! Glad you are sticking with this. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

harrowcat · 14 February 2007 · Chapter 48: Choices

Oh poor Sam. You make my heart bleed for him in this. Loved the part about needing to ask forgiveness even though none is needed.

Author's reply

Hantanyel, my dear! Namarie, God bless, Antane :) Author Reply: Another reply! I had hoped to get the tower chapter up before I quit for Lent but alas I have not and Byzantine Catholics start on Monday and I am following that this year with no Sunday breaks either. See you on the other side. :) Namarie, God bless, Antane

Queen Galadriel · 13 February 2007 · Chapter 48: Choices

Oh, this is so heartbreaking! Both their pain is so sharp it's painful to read. I really love Sam's part of this (though if I were you and if I may make a little suggestion I'd swich okay with all right--okay just sounds really American). There had to be times when he really felt that. God bless, Galadriel

Author's reply

I was corrected on that word by someone else while they were reading the epic. It's changed now - hantanyel for catching it. Namarie, God bless, Melinyel, Antane :)

harrowcat · 13 February 2007 · Chapter 47: The Spider's Lair

I love this image of each sustaining the other and trying to outdo one another in kindness and generosity! I am merely returning the gifts of love you have unceasingly given me. I have just been working with the children preparing to receive First Holy Communion on the Offertory and Preparation of the gifts. What you say here is ringing so many bells.

Author's reply

I love it too - that Sam does not realize that he's love incarnate himself, but see Frodo that way and so they were to each other. Hantanyel for all your kind reviews and continued support, my dear! :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Larner · 13 February 2007 · Chapter 47: The Spider's Lair

Love is that way--give and take; and these to personify it.

Queen Galadriel · 12 February 2007 · Chapter 47: The Spider's Lair

Yet again, this has made me cry and smile. This brought my tears. It is before you come, when the dark presses the most, that I fear the fell voices are right after all and I am pierced by agony that I must scream out, but strangle instead until I taste blood on my tongue. Then my door opens, the light from the oil lamp in your hand wavers and bobs and I am mesmerized. I can breathe again, not the foul air of that lair, but of the sweet smell of grass and our garden. I can see again, not hundreds of eyes, but your two. I can hear, not hisses in the dark or voices that call for despair, but the soft murmur of your voice. I can feel again, not her terrible sting, but the gentle touch of your hand as you wipe at my tears. Thank you, my Sam. Oh, such agony, such that nothing can ease it. Sam can for a little while, but not forever, not much longer...*tears* Sam planting Frodo's parents' flowers is so sweet, so Sam. And I had to grin at this: You did many other things to show me how much loved me. You tried to slip in something extra to my pay each week, but I would catch you each time. You would not listen to any of my protests, saying I could spend it however I wanted, even on myself. You knew well that I wouldn’t do that so I worked extra in the garden to make up for it or tidied up a bit inside. I always tried to be careful about it so you wouldn’t find out and pay me even more. But you knew very well what I was doing the way you would look and smile at me and ask casually sometimes how some book shelf came to be suddenly more organized than usual or that you noticed that the firewood was better stocked than you remembered it being or the cold room was neater than before or remarked about the new quill and ink bottle that was on the desk. You pretended to let me have my secrets and find another way to thank me. Aw! So like them! :) God bless, Galadriel

Author's reply

Glad you are enjoying, ammelda! That last was fun to write because I could see it happening - the former I could see unfortunately as well. The poor dears... Namarie, God bless, Melinyel, Antane :)

Armariel · 11 February 2007 · Chapter 46: The Morgul Vale

It's lovely of Sam to remember the laugh, isn't it?

Author's reply

Lovely for them both and amazing for it to be possible there but they were ever lights in dark places for each other. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Larner · 11 February 2007 · Chapter 46: The Morgul Vale

Dear Sam, seeing Frodo in his need and doing what he could to relieve it, and then rejoicing to hear Frodo able to laugh again in spite of Mordor and Sauron and the Ring and Its machinations. I am so glad Frodo had that to remember after, that Sam was able to evoke laughter there from him, even after the Ring tried to take him.

Author's reply

Such is the power of love. I know I am going to warp this terribly probably, but the darkness saw the light and understood it not. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

harrowcat · 11 February 2007 · Chapter 46: The Morgul Vale

Poor Sam. So close to despair but saved by the remembrance of laughter. Preciouis memories indeed.

Author's reply

As the St. Therese, the Little Flower, said watching the mental sufferings of her father, there is no greater suffering on earth than to watch someone you love suffer and be helpless to stop it. Sam knew that pain. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Queen Galadriel · 10 February 2007 · Chapter 46: The Morgul Vale

Wow. The imagery of the roads pierces the heart and rings so true. And Sam is so much more perceptive than many give him credit for. The memory of that laugh would be sweet then, I think. :) God bless, Galadriel

Author's reply

Sweet indeed. Much is written about Frodo's pain, but little about Sam's which had to be terrible at times watching someone so beloved suffer so. Nmarie, God bless, Melinyel, Antane :)

Queen Galadriel · 10 February 2007 · Chapter 45: The Cross-Roads

Wow. That's all I can say. This is so poignant, so vivid, so...something I can't put into words, that something that gleams among the threads of this tale. God bless, Galadriel

Queen Galadriel · 10 February 2007 · Chapter 44: The Forbidden Pool

Already I am wondering what your lives will be like when I’m gone. I imagine you, dearest, presiding over the Free Fair and your growing family running and giggling and crying out in pure joy. I imagine you doing the same thing, watching over them and trying to catch them, laughing yourself. I see Merry as Master of Buckland and Pippin coming of age and then as the Took and Thain. There is so much I see in my heart that I will not see any other way and it causes me to smile and weep at the same time. Yes, such thoughts and visions of the heart would--and do--evoke both smiles and tears. Frodo is guilt-tripping himself needlessly. Who *wouldn't* think at least once of being rid of such a wretched creature. Pity is not love, and horror sometimes gets the better of pity. I've learned that the hard way, and I don't blame Frodo one little bit, even though it *was* a wrong thought. My gaffer would say there’s no point in wondering about what could have or would have happened. Our Road had enough twists and turns in it as it was. I won’t wander down darker paths, not leastways without you holding my hand. I would go anywhere with you, but the tales we will tell each other next will be brighter ones. I don’t imagine there are any dark roads to walk upon where you are, unless it be under the stars and those will not be dark but beautiful for I will be walking them with you. Oh, this is beautiful. God bless, Galadriel
