Wai wai wai wai wait, that was all just a dream? I just re-read this. Ack now I'm as confused as Frodo!

Author's reply

Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. In this ending, it was. Just sent you the alternate ending. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

OoOoOHhHhH!!! Awesome...thanks for posting it.:-) Geez it's been since october...??? Time flies so quickly...lol ***VERY SAD*** but loved it...xoxox well written as always!!! lots of hobbity love --Katie

Glad you enjoyed it! It is totally ridiculous how fast time flies. The older you get, the faster it gets. Just terrible. *big hobbity hug* Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

MithLuin · 20 May 2007 · Chapter 2: Or It Could Have Ended This Way...

I prefer the original ending. For one thing, it is clear when the dream switches to reality with the name "Smeagol" popping up, and to think that the Quest isn't over yet is even harder than knowing it is...but also plenty of room for hope. Death is too final to have much hope in it, and it is too unfair to Sam. Still, thank you for sharing!

Author's reply

You are welcome! I prefer the ending I first posted also since this other one is just too depressing. Death is just a step to another life. I cannot say it as beautifully as Aragorn said it to Arwen but there is hope. It's just we can't see it at the time it happens. But you are right, the other is better. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

harrowcat · 20 May 2007 · Chapter 2: Or It Could Have Ended This Way...

Woah! Definitely too angsty for me this time. But after re-reading the first part you leave us a question - what happens to Sauron?

Author's reply

Well I suppose that would be determined by what is dream and what is reality? Was Frodo really possessed and his waking up in Bag End a dream and when he reverted back to his nightmare reality, he couldn't bear it and died? Then I think Sauron would have abandoned him and found another host and I don't even want to think about that because there was only one nearby. Or was the thought of being posessed the nightmare and when he woke only for a moment and then was dragged back, he couldn't bear that and died. Did he die in a cell in Minas Tirith or his own bed? Did Sam bury him in a garden there or the garden at Bag End? Were there hundreds of miles to go for him to return home or only a few steps down the Row? I tried to be as vague as possible just to leave it open just to leave food for thought. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Larner · 19 May 2007 · Chapter 2: Or It Could Have Ended This Way...

A rather shocking AU, and I'm SO glad it didn't happen. To fall into that level of madness would be more than I could stand, I fear.

Author's reply

I'm very glad too! I just couldn't do that to Frodo when I posted it first so devised another way. But was it madness or reality? Was he truly possessed or just tormented with a terrible nightmare? The story as I first posted it makes it clear it was all a torment from the Ring but this other ending I tried to leave unclear. I wondered if this was the nightmare that had Frodo crying out softly that woke Sam just when Smeagol was about to convert back to the light, though I didn't post it that way. But I do wonder. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Larner · 19 May 2007 · Chapter 1: Dreams and Reality

Yes, this would be extraordinarily frustrating as the Ring seeks to pervert Frodo's very consciousness so he can no longer tell dream from reality, seeking to convince him of demonic possession.

Queen Galadriel · 19 May 2007 · Chapter 2: Or It Could Have Ended This Way...

Oh, man, Antane! That is so sad, so sad! "...knowing he would never have an answer." *tears* No wonder you decided to end it differently and I'm so glad you did. God bless, Galadriel

Author's reply

I just couldn't do that to our dear when I first posted it, after having put him through all that other torment. But at last you can see how it was originally written. I am very glad to if didn't come to this. Namarie, God bless, Melinyel, Antane :)

AddaLynn · 3 October 2006 · Chapter 1: Dreams and Reality

I rather enjoyed this piece...and I know you will probably hate me for this but I thought the ending bit with it all being a dream was just a bit cliche. But then again the title IS " DREAMS and Reality" so I guess I have no room to speak..:) I just wish that maybe it would of been played out as Frodo thought it was a dream then he discovers the what his TRUE reality (that of which him being possesed by Sauron)has transformed him into physically and mentally. But seriously...I'm NOT trying to Flame!!!I DID enjoy your story. keep up the great work. ****AddaLynn****

Author's reply

Thank you. The original ending to this story was just that - what he dreamed was actually reality, but he didn't know it until he thought he was waking up from that dream in Bag End and discovered that being in Bag End was the dream and he was waking up in his cell, but I decided I just couldn't do that to him and we do know that the Ring gave him nightmares on the Quest so I chose that way instead. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Elanor Silmariën · 28 August 2006 · Chapter 1: Dreams and Reality

I think I read this before I was away, but must have forgotten to review! I was wondering what you were up to until the end. Poor Frodo to dream about being all alone in that room. And without even Sam! *tear* Very good story, dear! God bless, Ellie

Author's reply

Thank you so much! I'm glad I had you wondering, that was my intent to have people not know. If you can believe me, it was even more angsty as I originally wrote it, but then I thought I just couldn't do that to our poor dear. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Queen Galadriel · 20 August 2006 · Chapter 1: Dreams and Reality

Oh my! Oh wow! You had me really scared there for a while! The part about the prison (for that is what it was, unwilling as they all were for Frodo to be in it) made me cry. But then what a surprise ending! Only one of those horrible dreams that merge so naturally into waking that sometimes it takes one a little while to remember what's real and what isn't. This is one of your best yet! Very creative, my dear! God bless, Galadriel

Hey Antane You made me cry!lol That was really a wonderful angst filled tale. This IS one of best fanfictions that I've ever read. I hope you don't mind me posting a link to this story on my myspace, but more LOTR angst fans need to read this.:) *cheers and whistles* YAY!Excellent job! Thank you so much for writing this fanfiction.I kinda wished it didn't have to end....but we can't keep sweet lil Frodo all alone and sad forever can we?;) Keep up the great work!!!! lots of hobbity love, ~Katie

Author's reply

Thank you for all your kind words, Katie! I am honored that you would want to post my story elsewhere - no one's ever said that before! What is the address of your site so I can take a look at it? As far as keeping Frodo sad forever, no, indeed, can't have that! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Armariel · 27 July 2006 · Chapter 1: Dreams and Reality

quendria · 27 July 2006 · Chapter 1: Dreams and Reality

What an incredible story Antane! Your vivid descriptions and intricate storyline had me truly feeling all of Frodo's despair, hopelessness, and depression... WOW!! I have always thought that when a writer can evoke emotions in their audience...that the reader is "experiencing" a piece/story, rather than just merely reading it...well, that is indeed a sign of a great author! I love your ending twist too! You are truly a Master of Angst!! I have always adored Frodo, so the author's who have devote their time, and written any stories about him have my undying gratitude! I hope you carry on with this theme...I don't think I have read any of your works before...now I must rush off and look up any other stories you have written! Thank you so much for sharing this with us Antane!!...............Q

Author's reply

Wow - thank *you* so much for your very kind review! I love Frodo to death myself. I hope you enjoy my other works also, though not many have this depth of angst, but there's plenty to be found in varying degrees and tons of hobbity love throughout. :) Namarie, God bless, Antane

Samwisegirl12 · 27 July 2006 · Chapter 1: Dreams and Reality

Hey Antane! ooh, a new story :) I'll admit, for awhile I was like, what the heck is going on? is she really serious? then I was just concerned about Frodo ... and then the dreams part came in - OH! I see now! lol ... anyways, lovely as always. Keep them coming! :D ~ swg ~

Author's reply

Hantanyel, swg! I am glad you enjoyed - and glad you were confused because I did want to make people wonder what was happening. The poor dear, just makes you love and admire him all the more because you already know he suffered from nightmares but he still went on. I wonder if this was one of them? *shivers* and *hugs him* Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Daynawayna · 27 July 2006 · Chapter 1: Dreams and Reality

That was amazing Antane! What a horrid AU possibility, even if it was a dream. Wow. I loved your vivid descriptions, the light/dark, and to Whom they prayed... nice touch. I really enjoyed that. Thank you. :)

Author's reply

Thank you right back! Glad you enjoyed! :) Namarie, God bless, Antane

harrowcat · 27 July 2006 · Chapter 1: Dreams and Reality

Well you are certainly right about the 'Tons' of angst! I liked the way that you made the switch at the end. Is this the end or will there be more?

Author's reply

You mean you want *more* angst than this? :) Well, this little nightmare is done, but that's another coming at some point if I can get it done that will be just about the same level but it would have really happened so it's going to be an AU of my favorite Two Towers movie scene. Just you wait! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Starfire_Moonlight · 26 July 2006 · Chapter 1: Dreams and Reality

Goodness girl! What happened to you, bitten by the agnst bug or what? No, seriously though, this was one heck of a tale. Geez, to think all that could of happened and for a second I was confused. I didn't know weither it was for real or a dream. Being locked up in Minas Tirith, away from his cousin's and Sam and life. To be cut off from everything and everyone. But, thankfully, it was all just a dream to throw him off. It was meant to throw him off, wasn't it? A nightmare sent by that evil Ring! *glares at Ring*

Author's reply

Well, you know after all the joy of Love Letters and Going Home, I just had to go off the deep end the other direction! :) Actually I wrote this over a year ago and it was even more angsty then but I decided I just couldn't do that to my - our - Frodo. I'm glad you were confused whether it was dream or reality - that's what I wanted. Yes, it was meant to throw him off, but of course, that stubborn Baggins wasn't about to be thrown off was he? :)
