And then there are some things you should never do, at any time! Our lads won't be trying this one again! ;)

A fool and his trousers are soon parted. Especially when drunk. They deserved their fate - really they did!
I loved the bit about none of them were surprised when the lasses avoided reprimand altogether. They were lasses after all, and needed only to bat their eyes at their fathers to get away with nothing worse than a tap on the wrist. As unfair as it was, that was just the way of things. The power of lasses over their dads is not in dispute - but on the other hand, they did remain dressed!
Author's reply
Yes they did deserve what they got. A very fitting punishment all around. After a month of serving The Aunts, they won't ever dream of doing something this stupid again - at least, not while The Aunts and numerous witnesses are around!
Estella, I think, would have got away scot free no matter what. And really, Pervinca never told them to go mooning anyone, she simply pointed out that they might be lacking in certain attributes, like the ability to dance after a hard day's work. She *never* meant to insinuate *anything* else. *wink*wink* LOL My, but she is a sly one. :D

This is so funny!
In fact, my collected family all now think I'm barking, because I was sitting in the sitting room, shaking with suppressed laughter...
Author's reply
Barking as in like a dog, or barking mad? I suppose either case isn't exactly a good thing, although barking like a dog might be easier to explain away if you actually *have* a dog. You could just say you were playing. ;) lol Thanks for reading! I'm glad this gave you a laugh!

*sniggling madly* A TREE! XD
I loved how you kept mentioning their various punishments.
That Pervinca certainly is a meddler, and seems to know too much for her own good. I think this beats out "A Night to Forget" as your "sexiest story." ^_-
Author's reply
I try to rein Pervinca in, I really do, but there's just no controlling that lass. Ev's right - she *will* say anything. :) I'm pretty sure she had something to do with what all the other lasses were saying also (but again, there's no solid evidence of this). She might not have predicted this outcome, but she would hardly be disappointed in it.
The various mentions of the 'trial' was a sort of happy accident. I did it once and then decided to expand it throughout the story. It added to the comedic effect nicely. :)
Thanks for reading!

“Oh good,” said a voice. They looked down to discover Pippin standing there, staring with glazed eyes at Reginard’s brown breeches. “A tree.”
Oh my, I hadn't realized until that last line how drunk Pippin really was ;-)
Merry seems to be slightly disappointed that he was not involved in that prank. On the other hand that should teach him a lesson: never leave Pippin alone! You don't know what will come out of it!
English is funny! Until now I've never come upon the expression "to moon". But with your story in mind I'll never forget it. Thank you :)
Author's reply
Yep, a "full moon" isn't always a celestial event, lol. ~_^ Not sure were the expression comes from though.
Pippin's pretty sloshed himself. He'll get a lot of teasing over this, most notably from Merry, who wouldn't have needed to get drunk to think this plan a brilliant one. Whether he had been with Pippin or not, the outcome would have been the same - except that Pippin wouldn't have been drunk himself. In that case, Pippin would have gone along with it because Merry was going to do it. :)
Man, I feel like I'm corrupting your innocence! Because of me, you know what skinny-dipping is, and now mooning!

This is one grin from title to the end GF - brilliant!
Author's reply
Thank you, harrowcat! There really couldn't have been any other title for this. I'm just glad I finally sat the lads down and made them tell me the whole story. I've been trying to write this for months! =)

OMG! Oh dear! Oh my! ROTFLMBO! "Moon Over Tookland" indeed!! *wheeze*guffaw*chuckle*snort* *takes deep breath*
Oh.
Oh Golly!
*chuckle*snicker*wipes eyes*gets up off floor*
Oh dear!

Hm... I'm going out on a limb here and saying that you found this funny. :) Consider it an early b-day present, dearie.
I was briefly going to call it "Moons Over Tookland" but thought the pluralization would have given it away (but not *that* 'it'). Now we know why Merry was so eager to recount this to Frodo in "Mid-Year Walking Trip". ;)

LOL
That was great! I love the very last of it all where Pippin thinks he's found a tree. Too funny!
Author's reply
I thought it was about time I took this little anecdote from "Mid-Year Walking Trip" and expanded it to a full-length ficlet. The lads were a bit reluctant at first, but once I slipped them a little bit of ale (just a little bit, mind - wouldn't want a repeat of events, after all!) they let out with the whole sordid truth. Pervinca, however, refused to answer my letters and was not available for questioning. :)

Oh, you do beat all! This was simply hysterical!!
I just don't understand how anyone could think doing something like that would be a good idea...haha. I suppose that's just another ill-effect of drinking.
“You know, he still goads me about that whole neck romancer thing.”
I remember this! Haha!!
Very cute and funny story. As usual, your writing is flawless. I love your style. Well done, mate.
You really must explain to me the conversion of hobbit years to man years. It's something I just can not puzzle out, and it's been driving me crazy. Could you help me out?
Author's reply
I had this whole reply finished and then I hit a button and it disappeared! *pouts* Here we go again...
I figured I owed Reggie for his humiliation in "The Evil Necromancer". :) He's had to put up with a lot from Ev over the years and now he has something he can hold over his little brother's head. I have a feeling he'll be nicer about it though. Pippin untimely, er, appearance might have, how should I say, dampened his spirits a bit, but that will soon enough be water under the bridge. He might have to be replacing his breeches though. ;)
On age conversion: In Tolkien's time, men where considered adults when they reached 21, so I use the factor 21/33 for hobbit ages, since 21 is the rough equivalent of 33 for hobbits. This factors out to approx 0.64, which I multiply by the hobbit's age to get the Man age. I then round up or down depending on how close the story takes place to the character's birthday. For instance, Pippin is 22 in this story. 22 x .64 = 14.08. Since the story takes place in September and his next birthday is in March (in my fanon), that would make him closer to 14.5 years. However, I figure hobbits stop counting by half years when they reach their tweens, and so only gave the age 14 for him. (Yes, I really am that anal about it!) Hope this helps!
