What a marvelous idea—fairy tales from Faerie! I loved this tale, which does indeed sound like a story the Rohirim would tell. I look forward to others. Thank you. Blessings, Alassiel

Hi, Alassiel I'm glad you liked it. There will be others, though, as mentioned previously, they are /all over the map/. Something for everyone! :) Thanks, DW

This was an excellent tale and I am looking forward to more. It reminded me of the Scottish ballads Tam Lin and, particularly, Thomas the Rhymer. I am not hot on Irish myth but I am convinced that despite his protestations the Professor was influenced by Celtic as well as "Northern European" tales. Keep up the good work! Pryderi.

Hi, Pryderi (from the Mabinogion?) Thanks! Yes, I figure he absorbed Celtic-flavored fairy tales by osmosis during his childhood. Well, so did I! DW

it is neat how you were able to entwine a number of familiar groups & characters into a whole new story....would like to see more.^__^

Hi, vampfan30 I'm glad you want more, though as I mentioned to Dreamflower, they won't be like this one! DW

I enjoyed this very much! Somewhat reminiscent (to me anyway) of the legend of Oisin and Tir-na-nog in Irish legendry. Very well done!

Author's reply

Hi, SurgicalSteel Thanks for commenting! Yes, I kept the legends of the Fair Folk of various cultures in mind while writing this one. DW

Very well done indeed! And such a cautionary tale as this would easily account for the superstitious dread that the Rohirrim seemed to feel toward Lothlorien. I look forward to seeing more of these tales--maybe the Tookish fairy wife? or Queen Beruthiel and her cats? or maybe the tale of Golfimbul from the orcs' POV, LOL! So many lovely possiblities!

Hi, Dreamflower I'm glad you liked it! I do have more, though they are all different from "The Sorceress" in mood, plot, character and setting. Not one of the ones you've mentioned, though ... so far. DW

An interesting concept for a fanfic, but one which you have carried off exceedingly well in this, the first chapter. You use the language and tone of a fairytale brilliantly well, and yet make it all fit in with canon. The dream-like quality of this story works with the concept of a fluid and wraith-like time that even Frodo and Sam remarked upon in Lothlorien. I am looking forward to the next chapter a lot. Hmm, perhaps a ghost story about the Old Forest near Buckland, about a hobbit? *grins*

Author's reply

Hi, Ming Thanks for your comments! I actually thought about doing ghost stories, as Middle-earth is rather plentifully supplied with ghostly locales (the Dead Marshes, Paths of the Dead, Barrowdowns, to name a few). OTOH, I've been reading fairy-tales all my life, and think I have a good handle on the vocabulary, which is not the case with ghost stories. If someone else out there could do it, I'd read them! *pitches Nuzgul with high hopes* DW
