....and a few licks about the shoulders with her umbrella"... I do have to admire the old gal. she may have been a frustrated social climber, but the girl and her umbrella stood up to ruffian men twice her size during the Troubles. By this time she had lost Otho, and even for a sharp tongued person like her, Lotho must have been a disappointment. Because of the ruffian men he invited into the Shire, even once she got her beloved Bag End she was not able to enjoy it very long. And in the end, she even lost Lotho. You have made her real and sympathetic. And your Posy is such a dear. I have no doubt that some time soon she will go to Bag End with the booties and have tea with the Gamgee children. There must have been some good hearts like her in the Shire for the four Travelers to have thought there was something worth saving. And you have Frodo trying to thank her with the same respect with which he later assisted her and her umbrella out of the Lockholes, to the cheering of the gathered Hobbits. Well and sweetly done!

That is a great ending to this Citrine. Like all good humour there is an element of blackness, of saddness to it too.

Armariel · 17 June 2006 · Chapter 5: Tooks and Tea

Awwww....poor old Lobelia...well, that was sweet and cute altogether! Thanks for a delightful story! ~~~{~@

Dreamflower · 17 June 2006 · Chapter 5: Tooks and Tea

Well, all's well that ends well, and Lobelia is stuck with only Lotho, but at least she's not a cradle-snatcher, thanks to Frodo's "diplomacy". *grin* I love the image of Merry "shaking her hand like a pumphandle"--I could just see that! Dear me! I'm sorry to see this end, but I suppose it could not realistically have been dragged out much longer. *sigh*

Author's reply

*Chiming in a bit late* Weeeeell, no. But I foresee a possible epilogue;-)

Pearl Took · 17 June 2006 · Chapter 5: Tooks and Tea

Oh Citrine, this was so sweet!! To see Lobelia being even the least bit sweet was such a different thing. And the end, with her thinking sadly of all of wee Pippin's baby-ness was perfect. A wonderful tale indeed :)

Author's reply

Thanks, Pearl! Shoot, this is Pippin we're talking about here-who *wouldn't* fall in love with the little rascal, even Lobelia? Even the grouchiest old b...er, broad...er, dame can have a soft spot.

Dreamflower · 16 June 2006 · Chapter 4: Lotho's Bothersome Smile

Oh golly! LOL! This little story is just so funny and adorable. I am far from a Lobelia admirer, but I will have to say--your version of her is *almost* likable! As for Lotho, I have to say the reactions of little Pimpernel and Pervinca are perfectly understandable. I'd feel that way about his smile too. But I don't think that Paladin and Eglantine will be all that accommadating to Lobelia's plan, LOL!

Author's reply

Thanks, Dreamflower! I've been a closet Lobelia admirer for a long time:o) Anybody who would go after Ruffians more than twice her size armed with nothing but a bumbershoot is my kind of gal.

demeter d · 15 June 2006 · Chapter 4: Lotho's Bothersome Smile

I promise you, dear, I am awake today. i very much enjoyed parts two and three, but on looking back I was so tired trying to write about them that I know I muddled the two together. this one should be better. "whenever there was trouble at Bag End, there was Lotho like a rain cloud at a picnic". Darling! Then, even though he failed at math in school, he could see that things could add up to trouble. But he just is not smart enough to talk to the grownups, instead of two little lasses around sixish.I loved the image of Bell Gamgee racing to the rescue. i am sure that Sam had to get his courage from somewhere. And then, the end, "his mother was on her own"! Too funny! I wonder, though, once the little girls settle down, maybe one of them might say that Lotho had been teasing them about finding their lost brother. That might get everybody stirred up again! Only one part left? I am sure it will be a busy one!

Author's reply

Aw shoot, you did just fine, Demeter:o) Lotho was just so desperate to avoid becoming a big brother, he grabbed whatever Took he could find. Thanks so much for reading and reviewing all this!

Armariel · 15 June 2006 · Chapter 4: Lotho's Bothersome Smile

Love how you describe Lotho's smile, heheh! The big oaf! WEll, that was an interesting twist, wonder what's going to happen next! LOLOL ~~~{~@

demeter d · 13 June 2006 · Chapter 3: We Haven't Looked Everywhere

oops. I seem to have run a bit of two and three together. It is fun in this one to see the older cousin marshalling his troops for a search. As I said before, Sam and his sisters are always well-behaved, indeed,"well-brought up". I liked the Gaffer's voice in Sam's head, telling him to watch how he talks. Indeed, they will need at least Frodo's help to deal with Lobelia, if not Eglantine's. I would like to see what Lotho has to say when his mother tells him she intends to adopt the little one. For that matter,I would like th see what Paladin and the Grandpa, the Thain, have to say about that! this is getting good!

demeter d · 13 June 2006 · Chapter 2: The Little Thing in Question

so "respectable infants are not found under gooseberry bushes". I wonder if the heir to the heir of the current Thain is respectable enough for our favorite social-climbing Hobbitess? I enjoyed the description of poor Posey and her sad memories, and watching her bring out the fussy little baby clothes. I am sure our little Pippin would be out of something like that in a flash! As usual, Sam and his sisters are well behaved and polite. I quess the poor dears will have to get a grown-up to deal with Lobelia. I laughed through this whole thing. I can hardly wait to see what comes next!

demeter d · 13 June 2006 · Chapter 1: The Foundling

Ohhhh, ohhhh, dear! Very nice characterization of Lobelia. After all, she was a mother herself, even the lotheable Lotho had to have been young once.I like the description of her grasping her umbrella and preparing to meet the "danger. An involving beginning. Do go on!

harrowcat · 13 June 2006 · Chapter 3: We Haven't Looked Everywhere

Oh dear. Hobbit-napped! Well possession is nine tenths of the law they say. But Lobelia has reckoned on Sam or Tooks or Baggins'!

Lindelea · 13 June 2006 · Chapter 3: We Haven't Looked Everywhere

Darn, no time to read even ch 2, so this isn't a real review at all, just an administrative note. The MEFA awards accept incomplete works, so you don't have to hurry to finish this before the deadline if you don't have the time or inclination. It can be entered as a WIP this year, and if you finish it before reading/voting season ends the status can be changed to "complete", I think, and if not, it can compete as a WIP this year and a finished work whenever it gets finished. The big deadline is that you have to respond to the email saying it has been nominated (check your spam filter, or email me if you don't hear anything from MEFA), and you have to finalize the story details at the MEFA site (story length, genre, main characters, that sort of thing--you have two other stories nominated there, so if you've finalized them you know what I mean, and if you haven't, you need to, and soon, as you only have about another week to do that). Whew. Does that make sense?

Author's reply

Perfect sense:o) It's actually finished, I just can't resist the urge to tinker with it a bit, so it's nice to know I have plenty of time for that. But thanks!

Armariel · 13 June 2006 · Chapter 3: We Haven't Looked Everywhere

Heheh...delightful...Eek, what an old witch, I'm anxious to see how they'll get little Pippin back...LOL! So cute!!!!!! ~~~{~@

Lindelea · 12 June 2006 · Chapter 1: The Foundling

Still no time to read this properly, but I took the liberty of nominating it for MEFAs. The deadline is coming up quickly, no time for niceties. Hope that's ok.

Author's reply

It's okay:o)Hope it can sneak in under the wire! Yipes, I guess I better get crackin' and get this thing all the way done and posted, lol. Thanks, Lin.

Larner · 12 June 2006 · Chapter 1: The Foundling

That the mysterious naked infant should prove to be little Pippin is so appropriate! Love it, and that even Lobelia is moved to do the right thing--for the moment, at least! Dear Pippin!

Author's reply

Yes, I've never been able to see Lobelia in a completely bad light. She's not such a bad old girl.(Cranky and bossy and bitter, and with a bad case of sticky-fingers when it comes to Bilbo' silver spoons, but not so bad;o) Thanks for reading, Larner.

Lindelea · 12 June 2006 · Chapter 1: The Foundling

Hoorah, you're writing again! *tosses handful of confetti in air* *looks ruefully at floor* *O well, it needed sweeping anyhow* Even though I skimmed at top speed (have to be out the door in 30 seconds or so) I laughed out loud at one point. No, more than one. Excellent story! Lovely portrayal of Lobelia.

Author's reply

*Sweeps up for you* Thanks again, Lin!

harrowcat · 12 June 2006 · Chapter 1: The Foundling

Ooh this is shaping up to be a good tale, if not a little alarming for both Pippin AND Lobelia! Looking forward to more.
