Oh yeah, read my official review first....it's below this one. I'd like to add a P.S. to my review....yeah P.S. Elladan and Elrohir betting on who sees their parents kiss first? Wow they are really really going too far. Ah well. Not that Elrond and Celebrian are exactly "controlling" themselves. I liked it when Galadriel cut the rope too. That shocking part was funny. =) -Lady Saruman

Elladan and Elrohir were betting on who would catch their parents kissing NEXT. Elrohir is a bit more observant than Elladan, so my bet is on him. I think its good kids know their parents love each other. :>)
Lady Saruman · 12 July 2006 · Chapter 1: Glorfindel's Begetting Day
Nilmandra I am so sorry! My delay was absolutely ridiculous! But I hafta explain everything..... (June 15) It was graduation day...go through everything.....and finally it was over. I went home, hoping to go on the computer and go on SOA.com (where else?) But when I turned it on, it kept telling me to restart! The next day, we took it to the computer repair shop, where the worker there told us that our computer was old and so we needed to buy a new one. I was shocked. I knew my parents wouldn't buy a computer until late into the summer, and that meant that I couldn't do anything. At all. So now I'm at the library, reviewing your story. I'm so sorry! (I don't know if you exactly remember me or not...) Okay, that was a pretty good story. Who wouldn't have thought that the twins would sneak into Glorfindel's chamber! LOL! With all the mischief they've done in the past this should be no surprise. =) But Celebrían! Who would have thought of it? And in the bedroom, the way you made Celebrían purr like a cat...well, let's just say that if someone who knows NOTHING about LOTR had the misfortune of stunbling upon this site....well not a good thing for them. And if they happen to read this story...well....yeah. I'll tell it from their POV. Watch this! A story told from a no-experience of LOTR person! ***Hmm...I'm reading a strange story. Why is Elrond (whoever he is) married to a cat?...a talking cat? *scratches head in puzzlement* And what is an Erestor??? Who are Elladan and Elrohir? I suppose Elrond's a human...Elladan and Elrohir his children??? probably. Are they half breeds? Something like a miniature sphynx? Who knew they could walk on a rope?....(then seeing the words "light-footed elf") Oh!!!!!!!! They're ELVES! Now the whole thing fits together! Now I gotta read the whole thing again now that I understand the characters!*** Sorry Nilmandra. I couldn't help it. Hope you don't get offended. You see, having not reviewed ANYTHING in like two months, I've gotten a little rusty, I gotta admit. Well, now on with the review. What is the matter with me?! I loved it when Erestor and Lindir threw the twins around. Poor Elrond. "Pale as the moon", eh? Well a concerned father has to have his own opinion too. But it was funny that the celebration was catalogued the whole time (well the one in the past with Glorfindel's brother) by Erestor. Ha ha! I can just imagine the look on Celebrían's face. I would have written more, but time is running short and I gotta catch up on two months' worth of stories. I'm really sorry! Okee gotta go! I wish you the best, Lady Saruman

I am sorry to hear about your computer. I recently had to replace both my desktop and laptop, so I feel your pain. I imagine anyone trying to read these stories would be confused if they didn't know anything about Tolkien!

What a wonderful story! I absolutely loved it, Nilmandra! I've read a few stories regarding Glorfindel and the twins, and they're always good but this one is just precious! And I love the *ahem* sexual tension of the married couples... which is as it should be! :) Loved the story and the characters, and it's nice to see just how far back Glorfindel really goes. I hadn't thought much about it until I read this (having only read The Silmarilion once), but Glorfindel really is OLD. LOL :) And worthy of all the love and honor all these stories bestow on him.

Glorfindel says he resembles that comment! I've mostly made up his history, but I see him as a lovely and giving child, and he assures me he was. Glad you enjoyed.. thank you for your kind words.
The Karenator · 11 June 2006 · Chapter 1: Glorfindel's Begetting Day
Happy Birthday, Gwyn! Nice present you got here too! What a fun story. My favorite part was the beginning when people kept showing up to see what Glorfindel was watching. You did such a nice job of smoothly introducing Erestor and Elrond as they arrived. The scene had such a nice humorous tone. Then Celebrian slid in. I was really chuckling by then. Elrond was properly horrified. Then this: “Whatever mischief occurs between you and Celebrían is your affair, I won't even tell you what I thought when I read that. I mean, I know that was not what Elrond meant, but a girl can dream. I was distracted for a moment before I could get back to reading. The twins and Celebrian turned out to be good sleuths...with a little help. And they used their information to create quite a shindig. A good time was had by all. But I think Glorfindel was really touched by the trouble they went to and by the extravaganza. Oh! I really liked the part from Glorfindel's brother's diary. Here we have an unnamed character who was physically absent from the story, but his personality was quite evident. He was a pretty visible guy too...to not be there. You did a terrific job with that. Really nice, Nilmandra. Fun, funny and very sweet.
Author's reply
In my past stories, we learn his dear Amme died on the way to Middle-earth, and his brother and father died in Gondolin. So the brother's diary had to be kept light and fun, since G adored him and he died and I wanted this to be a fun story! And yes, we can all dream of our own affairs with the Golden One. :>)
meckinock · 11 June 2006 · Chapter 1: Glorfindel's Begetting Day
This was really fun, Nilmandra. And Happy Birthday to Gwynhyffar! I always love your Erestor and Glorfindel bantering. The twins are absolutely adorable in their scheming and spying, and Elrond's intelligence-gathering strategies are quite effective. The conclusion of the performance was hysterical. I was shrieking myself at the thought of Glorfindel doing a cannon-ball with a kid under each arm. Lots and lots of fun!
Author's reply
I figured if Glorfindel could make a fool of himself for Erestor, Erestor would go all out for Glofindel too. Poor Lindir got sucked in simply because he was a named elf and I didn't have to introduce him. I laughed myself silly writing it. :D
Gwynhyffar · 11 June 2006 · Chapter 1: Glorfindel's Begetting Day
I forgot to add how much I enjoyed seeing Elrond and Celebrian! They were so loving and ... perfect together. Them being caught kissing in the library was great, especially given the on-going bet that the twins seem to have. I loved it!
Author's reply
Those two were nearly impossible to make behave so I could get the story written! Darn frisky elves.
Gwynhyffar · 11 June 2006 · Chapter 1: Glorfindel's Begetting Day
Nilmandra I LOVED this story! Thank you so much! I laughed out loud at Erestor with ribbons giving Elrond and Glorfindel the death stare, and I could feel the twins excitement throughout the entire story (the little twins are adorable). Galadriel cutting the rope had me rolling, I did NOT see that coming. Glorfindel was good sport even when he figured out what was going on, and I enjoyed a glimpse of him as an elfling. It's funny, but he's one of those elves who you never really think of as having ever been little. Thanks for this!!! :)

Happy Birthday! Hope your day is a enjoyable as Glorfindel's was. I had fun writing this.. so thanks for the idea. :D
elliska · 11 June 2006 · Chapter 1: Glorfindel's Begetting Day
ROTFL! This was great all the way through--too many details to mention! I love Elrond seeing them sneaking into Glorfindel's room with his semi permission and seeing Celebrian involved too; I loved them catching their parents kissing and having a bet on it; I loved the history you made for Glorfindel (however sad it was). But I almost choked to death on my tea when Galadriel cut the rope! I wasn't expecting that! Another version of the story! From someone who has spent too much time looking at medieval texts trying to find all versions of a story--I really appreciated that! Wonderful!
Author's reply
No one but Galadriel could have done that so serenely, so unexpectedly. And fortunately, Celebrian and the twins are the type to handle a cold dunk with humor :D I really had fun writing it.
Bodkin · 11 June 2006 · Chapter 1: Glorfindel's Begetting Day
What a glorious, light-hearted story! (I want to live in Imladris.) Glorfindel is such a star - he's been through far too much to let himself be upset by a reliving of a happy childhood event, produced in love as a gift from his second family. And if he was, Celebrian can twist him round her little finger. There are so many bits I loved - I don't know if I can detail them without rewriting the whole thing! Glorfindel's admission that he had - sort of - given permission for the twins to burgle his room. Elrond's seduction of Celebrian and vice versa! Elrohir's arrival - like a pixie on a toadstool - watching smugly as his parents have fun. The conversation in the hall. Celebrian making Erestor run - and then telling Elrond to speak to him. The hangover. The ride - and Glorfindel's thought that Elrond needed coaxing into more of Celebrian and the twins' schemes. And the whole performance - ending in Galadriel calming dropping the pyramid in the drink. Not to mention Glorfindel joining in the dunking and Galadriel walking the rope to be carried off into the woods ... the very woods where sections of the Imladris population had been begotten. A complete delight. Loved it.

French Pony · 10 June 2006 · Chapter 1: Glorfindel's Begetting Day
I love reading about your Imladris in the days of the twins' childhood. Everything always seems like a wonderful Edwardian comedy of manners. It's a house that seems arranged just for the benefit of these two lucky little boys. And on this day, one of their most devoted guardians gets to experience a little of that magic for himself. Given what's happened to Glorfindel since the original begetting day party, it was a significant risk to re-create it. It could have hurt him deeply, reminded him of absent family and the reasons for their absence. But there's so much love in Imladris -- it's just buzzing with love -- that the pure joy of the occasion shines through and wipes all the potential bad memories away.
Author's reply
Married couples love each other, friends are loyal and children are cherished. :>) Fantasy all too often, but I like the idea that this is what peacetime meant to the elves (and humans, too). I'd have loved to grow up in this Imladris. I admit I had a grand time writing this, laughed myself silly in places. It was a fitting end to my week. Fortunately for Glorfindel, he had that time of healing in Mandos's Halls... and friends who treat him with respect.
Dot · 10 June 2006 · Chapter 1: Glorfindel's Begetting Day
Ooh, fabulous! What a fun piece this is :-) You had me grinning from the start when Glorfindel, Erestor and Elrond all watch the sneaky shenanigans from behind the drapes. Glorfindel is hilariously unworried that it’s his chamber. I think he particularly enjoyed the fact that Celebrian was involved! Though why Elrond was so startled by that, I don’t know. He must realise by now what a mischievous streak his wife has! Speaking of Elrond, that was a very devious way of trying to get information from his wife! […] and his wife began making new noises that did not remind him at all of a contented cat. ROTFL! Still, it seems to have worked. So there’s a secret account of one of Glorfindel’s begetting day celebrations? I can see why that was tempting to Celebrian and her “wonderful” sons… I think Elrond and Celebrian need a cranky librarian to stop them making out behind the shelves ;-) LOL at Elrohir winning the wager. Again! And that scene in the hall was fantastic! I particularly loved Erestor in the background, going on and on about not running in the halls. And what a whirlwind Celebrian is. Loved the little bit about Glorfindel as a child. What a precious insight into his family life. I even got a little teary at the thought of his attachment to his brother and being so upset that he wasn’t allowed play with him! The twins are adorable in their desire to give Glorfindel the perfect begetting day. Another very touching moment is Elrond’s concern for his friend when he realises that the date coincides with that of the fall of Gondolin. But it seems Glorfindel is determined to enjoy whatever the day holds. And the whole of Imladris appear to have got involved. Cook’s anxiety about the breakfast cakes made me smile. What a lovely gift for Glorfindel, even if it must have been a little bittersweet. This was one of my favourite parts: He was casually dressed in trousers and tunic, his hair loosely tied back and he smiled in the carefree manner Glorfindel wished could always grace his countenance. It made me so glad for Elrond but I also like the way that even in the middle of all the fun Glorfindel pauses to take note of his friend’s humour and be happy for it and wish that he could always be so free of trouble. I think he’d be willing to be the victim of every conspiracy and the butt of every joke if it gave Elrond a chance to enjoy himself. I like the conversation between them too, seeing Glorfindel share his memories. It could be a day to think about all he has lost, but he’s refusing to dwell on that. It really shows that even if parents can’t keep evil at bay, at least a loving childhood means that people will always have something to hold on to. Memories of strong, loving arms might not be the same as being held in those arms but they can still provide comfort. Glorfindel’s reaction to seeing Erestor was one of the highlights of the whole thing! I nearly fell off my seat with laughter. The performance itself sounds amazing! I read it open-mouthed. I want them to perform at my birthday! I’m fascinated by Erestor. There’s really no end to his talents. And then the rope snapped! Brilliant! I howled with laughter when I realised that Galadriel had cut it and calmly dumped them all into the water. Very nice of her to give Glorfindel such a treat ;-) And what a moving moment between Galadriel and Celeborn as she walked trustingly across the rope and into his arms. I’d love to know the conversation they had before she did it. Though Elladan’s line, “Should we cut it?”, did rather ruin the moment a bit!! I’d like to see him try, but somehow I don’t think he’d have been successful… It looks like Glorfindel had a wonderful day – so it was all a success. He can be in no doubt as to how much he’s treasured by all of them. This was great, Nilmandra. There’s a wonderful giddiness and joy to it that I’m glad to see you indulge in, and you certainly gave me a much-needed laugh today :-)

Haha, I'll have you know I was going to have them in the study kissing, but I put them in the library in honor of you. :>) Bad Elrond! No biscuit! Celebrian may be the playful one and mischievous to boot, but he can bring her to her knees with one kiss. The worse my week went, the more hilarious the story became, Dot. It's farce and fun and fluff, but its fantasy too. This is what life should be like. Glorfindel had a grand day... best ever in Imladris. :>)

Delightful, Nilm. Humor with just a touch of melancholy mixed in. *claps*

It is hard to write in Tolkien's world and not have some melancholy, isn't it? To give Glorfindel a memory of childhood is a reminder of all that he lost, too. :/
Jay of Lasgalen · 10 June 2006 · Chapter 1: Glorfindel's Begetting Day
This was lovely - pure fluff, with just a little steaminess between Elrond and Celebrían! I loved Elrohir sneaking into the library and seeing his parents kiss - he seems to be good at that! And Glorfindel was making a wager on it?? I loved the four-way conversation in the hall - two entirely different subjects, and Elrohir chipping in to both - and the way you draw the differences between the twins. You make them two different people, not carbon copies as I've sometimes seen. It's difficult to choose the best line, but I think it's: 'Should we cut it?' from Elladan! Jay
Author's reply
The young twins are delight to write, but Frisky Elrond and Celebrian nearly wouldn't behave so I could write the story. Silly elves. Glorfindel appears to have had a fine time. :)

Oh Nilmandra you are so wicked! Galadriel calmly cutting the rope — I think I laughed as hard as Glorfindel. I do love your Imladris stories. It's obvious these people are not only friends but family who truly care for one another. And the twins are so delightful. Thank Eru they're not mine, though! They leave me breathless just reading about them.

The young twins would wear me out entirely! But yes, this was pure fluff and fun, but I do hope that the love of family comes through. Married couples love each other, friends are loyal, and children are cherished - even if they are dumped in cold water afterwards!

Lady Celebrian and Master Erestor's flying circus! Look at that! This was priceless, Nilmandra, I'm still wiping my eyes! (and I've printed it out...;-) It's so good to see them all so carefree, full of joy and mischief, as they would surely be at that time! The show was amusing, as was Galadriel´s performance, charged with such an important task! I would have paid to see their faces as they discovered that *she* had cut the rope! And I really loved to see Glorfindel enjoying the wild ride in the open air. A good tale with some memorable moments, from Erestor running in the halls to Celeborn smugly abducting his wife. Great. And happy birthday to Gwyn!

That was exquisite! I loved it! The difference in the accounts, the acrobatics, teh hung over Glorifndel, the careful plotting and best of Glorfindel's reaction to the whole thing. How wonderful! I love it when Glorfindel is depicted as having a close and dear realtionship to his atar, but can't say why that is. Thanks for writing this! What a wonderful tale!

Writing this got me thinking about what kind of child Glorfindel was... and it was fun to imagine him as the little brother, desperately missing his beloved older brother, and also as a much loved child who loved his amme and atar. I am such a fangirl....

My favorite part of this was the talk about running in the halls etc when several conversations were going on at once. That was so natural sounding! But I also liked the general sense of joy and play these elves exhibit. Happy birthday, Gwyn.

Frankly, all of the elves were reminding me of 'The Hobbit' elves... they enjoyed life and lived it fully. I had Elladan in the conversation too, and it was too much. The whole thing collapsed in on itself.
