This was very good! I've always wondered about Aragorn's first trip through Moria -- and I appreciate how competent he was here in his own right, not just in following the twins. Very enjoyable story, thanks for writing!

A very gripping, intense story. Despite many re-readings of LotR, the dangers and darkness of Moria never came over to me so intensely as in your story, which is also a wonderful tale about Estel's growing up and earning his spurs, so-to-say. And finally a female dwarf! WITH beard! *lol* The dwarves and the inter-species interaction was a particular joy to read. Thank you for this entertaining and enthralling story.

There are few who can claim two names. And he'll soon have more… I love their talk-- it's touching, humorous, and serious at the same time. Well written! “More to the point, who is Lúthien?” Aragorn asked lightly. He stood and stretched, glancing at the long shadows that lay outside. “I am going for a walk before supper – it is a beautiful evening. I will see you later.” And so it begins. Wonderful story!

pipinheart · 25 May 2009 · Chapter 999: A Son Of Two Fathers

A very nice ending... Estel finds out that he is Aragorn, and about his heritage. And Elrohir finds out about being drugged, by his little brother... Very funny.... Nice job...

Inzilbeth · 25 May 2009 · Chapter 999: A Son Of Two Fathers

Oh, lovely, Jay, just lovely! I so enjoyed Elladan's transformation from big brother to Elf-lord, but best by far was the scene at Imladris. Well done!

Inzilbeth · 25 May 2009 · Chapter 13: Kheled-Zâram

What a wonderful glimpse of Kheled -zaram! It was good to see Estel being treated as more of an equal after all he's been through and I can't wait to see what happens next. In fact, I'm not going to!

Inzilbeth · 25 May 2009 · Chapter 12: Hanging By A Thread

Jay, I've been enjoying this story since first you posted and now it's complete, I'm finally picking it up again. I so like your Dwarves and the growing respect between them and the Elves. Estel is a sweetheart. To me, he has the just the right mix of innocence yet with a growing maturity and belief in himself. Loved the line about hide and seek! On to the next chapter!

Kitty · 25 May 2009 · Chapter 999: A Son Of Two Fathers

Good to see them safe and sound back at home in Imladris! Though you managed to give the end an interesting twist. Poor Elrohir, it seems Estel’s unorthodox method of keeping him quiet gave him quite a nightmare! And the end was a great foreshadowing of what Aragorn will find outside on his walk - *his* Lúthien! I will miss this story, even if these long cliffhangers nearly killed me ;) It was a great ride!

Author's reply

It's odd, but long before the end of the story was in sight, I'd planned that scene with Estel admitting what he'd had to do, and Elrohir's reaction to it. Knowing it was Estel will at least cure Elrohir's nightmares. Ah, the foreshadowing - sometimes it's best to leave things unsaid and fade to black :) And I'm sorry for the long gaps between updates (mostly with cliffhangers) - I can't believe the story has taken just over three years to write!

Larner · 24 May 2009 · Chapter 999: A Son Of Two Fathers

Ah, but that last question is about to be answered! But it worked, he saved his brothers and has earned recognition as a man among both Men and Elves. Clever, resourceful, indefagitable, and living up to his Elven name! A marvelous tale, Jay. Thanks so much for it!

Author's reply

Thanks, Larner! I wanted to show how Estel grew to become the Aragorn in the books - and I always felt it started during his 'great deeds'. The twins are very proud of their little brother.

nessa · 24 May 2009 · Chapter 999: A Son Of Two Fathers

What a wonderful ending. It was funny as the truth was revealed to Elrohir. Aragorn is about to find the answer to the question "Who is Luthien?", but when will he find out who is his Huan? I always enjoyed looking for updates on this story, I will miss it.

Author's reply

LOL! I'm not sure about Huan, but Elrohir's prophetic words seemed the right way to end the tale and set up the meeting with Arwen. Now, what to write next??

daw the minstrel · 24 May 2009 · Chapter 999: A Son Of Two Fathers

A momentous ending, trembling with the future, but earned by the past. Great story, Jay. I'm sorry it's done.

Author's reply

Thanks, Daw. I didn't think there was much point in going past this point and writing about the meeting with Arwen - it's been done before, and by a far better author! But now I need to decide which story to start next - I have several ideas :>)

Agape4Gondor · 24 May 2009 · Chapter 999: A Son Of Two Fathers

Very nice ending indeed. I have decided not to leave this tale behind - I'm going to print it out and read it 'whole' and just relish the joy, horror, love and friendship contained within. Very very nice job!

Author's reply

Thanks Agape! I hope you enjoy reading this over again, and that it's as good the second time around :)

Ellie · 23 May 2009 · Chapter 999: A Son Of Two Fathers

Excellent ending and a perfect set up for the meeting with arwen. Very well done!

Author's reply

Thank you! As I said to Daw, I wanted to set the scene for the meeting with Arwen, but not write it myself. Tolkien's already done that!

Elflingimp · 23 May 2009 · Chapter 999: A Son Of Two Fathers

Ha!Ha! Very good ending Jay! and it was a good, good tale and much enjoyed even if it took awhile to read it. LOL!. Hugs The Imp

Author's reply

Thank you for reading and enjoying this. It took a while to read it? I can't believe how long it took to *write* - just over three years!

Grumpy · 6 May 2009 · Chapter 14: A Parting Of The Ways

Whoops almost have a war between dwarves and elves there, I do like Bilbur's idea on who to have as envoy between the two places.

Author's reply

It's odd - when Bilbur first appeared I had no idea she was female, nor that I'd come to like her so much. I hope Rúmon will learn from his new post as envoy ...

Larner · 4 May 2009 · Chapter 14: A Parting Of The Ways

Ah--excellent! The Elf found reason to get out of Dodge for a time, and the brothers are finally home, apparently safe. And they still do not know they sensed a Balrog! And to use THAT particular epithet there was most ironic, of course. Now, to find what Gilraen thinks when she hears the tale....

Author's reply

I had to keep reminding myself that the Fellowship didn't know about the Balrog, so the twins and Estel couldn't discover it. Even Glorfindel didn't work it out ...

Larner · 4 May 2009 · Chapter 13: Kheled-Zâram

At least they are now out, and are not being pursued. The marchwardens aren't being particularly politic, however. Haldir was unutterably rude!

Larner · 4 May 2009 · Chapter 12: Hanging By A Thread

Poor Nain! I was afraid such a thing might have happened!

Larner · 4 May 2009 · Chapter 11: The Bridge Of Khazad-Dum

And still another evil cliffie? Ooh! Now, to learn how Elladan survived this--with Nain, I hope!

Larner · 4 May 2009 · Chapter 10: Water, Water, Everywhere.

Ah--well done, and worthy of Dwalin's son!

Larner · 4 May 2009 · Chapter 9: Search And Rescue

Ah, I'd been wondering if Bilbur might have been female! Heh! Glad I was right!

Larner · 4 May 2009 · Chapter 8: In The Deep Places Of The World

You are delighting in evil cliffhangers, aren't you? Heh! Now--what has happened to Bilbur?

Larner · 4 May 2009 · Chapter 7: Unexpected Company

Now THERE'S a declaration to stop Farin in his prejudices! Heh! That Elf-witch IS the mother to the wife of Elrond of Rivendell, after all! And I'd never considered that they might have misidentified the terror that dwells in Moria as a Dragon. Yes, it makes sense, even though WE know it's not. Excellent--a group to precede Balin's company.

Bakoneko · 3 May 2009 · Chapter 14: A Parting Of The Ways

I've really enjoyed this story! You really showed us Estel beginning to grow into the man that we'll know as Aragorn, and I love how you handle the twins. And the dwarves are such three-dimensional, likable characters as well. Thanks so much for sharing it!

Author's reply

Thank you for reviewing this. The twins are my favourite characters, so I find them easy to write, but I'm glad you find the dwarves came across well. I haven't written about dwarves much before - but I think Bilbur will have to reappear one day.

Larner · 3 May 2009 · Chapter 6: Physician, Heal Thyself

And not enough experience to recognize a balrog when he sees it! They need to hurry indeed!
