Larner · 17 September 2006 · Chapter 14: Another Vow

So, someone thinks Thorongil would have been biddable? How foolish! And the small battle is won. I'll try to finish this in the next few days, although Wednesday will be a wash, what with the fair and all. Another step closer to resolution of the mystery.

Author's reply

I hope your week is a good one... *purely selfish reasons bwwaahhaaahaaahaaa* Seriously - the man is a dolt himself - obviously never paid serious attention at any of the Council's meetings else he would have noted Ecthelion's regard for his captain. The mystery - ah!

Raksha The Demon · 10 September 2006 · Chapter 28: Reappearance

A nice look at Theoden in father-mode, which is what Faramir, who has been through too much for any six-year-old, needs right now (though his greatest need is for Boromir). If Faramir's ankle was sprained, as the unfortunate leech diagnosed, then he won't be putting weight on it for several weeks.

Author's reply

Hi, Raksha! I was concerned about that too - but I sprained my ankle quite badly when I was young and still managed to hobble around - you can't keep a kid down. Besides that - there is a thing called adrenalin that I think has kicked in for poor Faramir - too much happening and no time to even notice his little body. Except for his shoulder... which I think could be a broken collar bone. In fact, pretty sure it is! Poor little thing. DRAT.........

Raksha The Demon · 4 September 2006 · Chapter 25: Never Safe

The forced separation of the brothers is terribly sad! Poor kids, one hopes they will soon be in kinder hands.

Author's reply

I would almost suggest you not read the rest, Raksha. The children are not done with suffering, and Faramir's whole world is collapsing about him. I hated to do this to the little one - but the Muse can be relentless. Still - he shows his courage to the bitter end.

Raksha The Demon · 4 September 2006 · Chapter 20: Minas Tirith

What a truly scummy thing, to beat up a little kid like that. Good job on writing Faramir here, he comes across as enough of a child to be scared and tearful, but still enough of the future Captain Faramir to remain defiantly loyal to his brother.

Author's reply

I hated to have the violence - but they are all in such a hideous tight spot. The one who is orchestrating all of this is definitely evil... Bless little Faramir and Boromir... they are not finished with their suffering.

Raksha The Demon · 4 September 2006 · Chapter 27: Friends Realized

Hey, that's Targon from ROTK, only much younger! Excellent usage of a character we don't see much in fanfic. They couldn't even give Boromir some food - dirty stinking treacherous rats, starving a helpless boy.

Author's reply

So VERY glad you recognized him! It was such fun to write of him. Only a short moment in ROTK but he will always be remembered for taking care of Pippin. I thought he deserved another moment here... besides, Boromir is still hungry! Perhaps the lad can help him!

Laura · 4 September 2006 · Chapter 99999: Translations / Characters

Truly captivating. Excellent story telling.

Larner · 2 September 2006 · Chapter 13: A Vow

So, Gondor also is capable of breeding shieldmaidens? Yes, fitting indeed.

Author's reply

I just couldn't see Gondor not having women who 'chafed' at the roles society asked of them.

Larner · 1 September 2006 · Chapter 12: Heated Debates

A gentle moment. And I can certainly appreciate Faramir's concerns.

Author's reply

Not often did the boys have time, I think, to spend together, to be boys, to be brothers. I continue to hope that Denethor spent what time he could with his family - but they were all bound to Gondor and to her needs. You are right about Faramir's concerns.

Larner · 1 September 2006 · Chapter 11: A Brother's Love

A frightening waiting, and then Faramir's fever breaks on its own anyway. I DON'T like the thought the crebain are keeping watch on them, as it speaks to the one most likely to be behind the assassination attempt.

Larner · 1 September 2006 · Chapter 10: Flight

An excellent plan. And the need for the caves but difficulties in living with them is obvious enough.

Raksha The Demon · 19 July 2006 · Chapter 11: A Brother's Love

Aw. Boromir is such a good and loving brother to little Faramir! Hopefully, Faramir will soon recover from the fever. Everything's gone from bad to worse, they all deserve some good luck soon.

Author's reply

You know - I've never written much of the love between the brothers in their early life. I love to read other people's interpretations though. I would truly like to spend some time with this - but Denethor has other ideas! I'm surprised he let me stop long enough on 10,000 Years to get this little tale in!

Raksha The Demon · 19 July 2006 · Chapter 15: Friendship Forged

I liked the friendship between Boromir and Theodred; it's good that Boromir has at a friend of his own age he can trust; especially since he's lost his beloved parents.

Author's reply

I was always amazed that Tolkien had both sons born the same year and die the same year. It is more than coincidence. Someday, I'd like to write something a little longer about their friendship. Perhaps a sequel???

Larner · 31 May 2006 · Chapter 9: Steward

The trust between the two is very touching; and I hope they find the assassin soon.

Author's reply

Thanks, Larner, I love the relationship between Boromir and his aunt, Indis. She came in handy after his mother died. I can't believe the boys were left with no mother-figure to help them. As for the assassin - it is sometimes very difficult to find the root of evil.

Larner · 31 May 2006 · Chapter 8: Audacity

Well, I no longer suspect Theoden, as he sends his son with Indis and the boys.

Author's reply

I had toyed with Theoden - but then I like the man a lot - and couldn't do this to him - maybe! LOL

Larner · 31 May 2006 · Chapter 7: An Impromptu Council

A good plan, to have all think them in seclusion while they in fact go ahead.

Author's reply

I just hope it works!!!

Mysterious Jedi · 13 May 2006 · Chapter 99999: Translations / Characters

excellent so far

Author's reply

Thank you. I think you will enjoy the entire tale. I've had fun writing it!

Mysterious Jedi · 13 May 2006 · Chapter 99999: Translations / Characters

excellent so far

Larner · 5 May 2006 · Chapter 6: Treachery

Surrounded by treachery--how will she find out who is at fault? And I find myself even suspecting Theoden at this point! Who is it who brought about this murder? Interesting mystery here.

Author's reply

Hi, Larner, I'll reply to your reviews here - I think you will just continue to love Eomund - I don't know why - he just grew in the tale and became more noble and supportive. I just love him myself! And that is a surprise. As for Indis - she is in for quite a time. Tolkien's queens in Numenor didn't seem to do very well. I hope that Indis has more sense! As for Theoden - well, one never knows, does one! LOL Very glad you are enjoying these!

Larner · 5 May 2006 · Chapter 5: A Fell Deed

I can understand the frustration she feels. A woman was not accepted as a ruler in such cultures. She'll know nothing but frustration for some time.

Larner · 4 May 2006 · Chapter 4: Grief

At least they are no longer trying to hide things from the boys, and Boromir is realizing it is acceptable to weep. She's done the right thing here, and I love Eomund deeply already.

Raksha The Demon · 13 April 2006 · Chapter 4: Grief

Heart-rending chapter; as Denethor's orphaned children learn the difference between uplifting stories and terrible truths. Small quibble - I can't see the boys referring to their father's sister as "Indis"; they are much too young for such familiarity in a culture that prizes good manners and a certain gravity, even among kin.

Author's reply

Wasn't that hideous - the poor things - and yet, how else could Indis tell them? They were so aware of the land's history of violence... it broke my heart! As for what the children call her - I was stumped by this - Aunt sounded so 'modern' that I didn't know what to do. So I took the easy way out and just left them calling her by name. ANY suggestions would be most welcome! Agape PS - thanks for reading and responding! Author Reply: Hi,Raksha, A friend finally came up with a good term of endearment for Indis - so I have changed the chapters affected. Hope this works for you. It does for me.

Larner · 10 April 2006 · Chapter 3: Birthright

It will be interesting to see the three women seize power in this way. Although it does sound as if this would be a good time for Thorongil to return South once more. She will need aid, and it would give Aragorn a good chance to build his power base for when he takes the Winged Crown.

Author's reply

Hmmm, Larner, I hadn't thought about Thorongil coming into the picture - but why not? We'll see what happens. A turn of events will take us completely away where the tale should have gone... but we will come back to Indis soon! Thanks so much for reading and responding! Agape

Raksha The Demon · 6 April 2006 · Chapter 2: Regent

So Indis puts the hammer down - good for her. I can see her as Boromir's regent; though I'm not sure that others in Gondor would concur, at least not immediately. Would you consider having a list of your OC's, as well as your Elvish words and phrases in a special chapter, that you could update occasionally/at will?

Author's reply

Your wish is my command.... I like that - puts the hammer down - yep! Describes my girl well. Agape

Larner · 6 April 2006 · Chapter 2: Regent

She's taking to herself a thankless job, and one which will be contested, for a woman ruling Gondor won't be easily accepted by many.

Author's reply

Thanks for the thought, Larner. But first she has to get past Theoden! Agape

Larner · 4 April 2006 · Chapter 1: Fallen

Alas, for such news as the death of brother and husband combined would be enough to lay anyone low! Poor lady!

Author's reply

Thanks for the response, Larner. I love how much Indis loved her husband and her brother. It will sustain her! Agape
