I love a good thunderstorm--I hope I didn't miss it. :-P So many terrific things going on in this chapter! You may run about camp when Aragorn says it is time, and not before,” Gimli reminded Pippin That gave me a good snicker; you'll see why soon, I hope. Looking forward to more! Pippinfan
Author's reply
It's nice to be inside (or under shelter) when it's raining, isn't it? Especially with hobbits there, too. :D Thanks, Pip! And I'm enjoying your story, very much too!
Larner · 10 April 2006 · Chapter 1: Chapter One
Wonderful moments here as Gimli demonstrates just how much he'd learned of Hobbit nature during their long journey. The nose twitching at the smell of food was wonderful, as is the arrival of Merry.
Author's reply
Thank you so much. I think of Gimli as very observant and protective of 'his hobbits'. I think he would have kept an eye on Pippin during his convalescence.
Andrea · 10 April 2006 · Chapter 1: Chapter One
Gimli chuckled. “Peregrin Took, I doubt there is a person in all of Middle-earth who could claim to know everything you are thinking!” “Except for me,” came a quiet voice from the entrance. Yay, Merry has arrived! I was wondering if he was still on his way, and now he answered my question in person! A perfect entry! “When a hobbit’s nose begins to twitch at the smell of food cooking, I know enough to suspect he is waking, and will be asking for his supper.” LOL! Gimli knows his hobbits very well indeed :)
Author's reply
Gimli tends to be such a quiet observer in the story, I don't doubt he's stored away a lot of information about 'his hobbits'. What a soft-hearted dwarfie. :D
Queen Galadriel · 10 April 2006 · Chapter 1: Chapter One
Oh, how sweet! I love the moment with Pippin and Gimli, and Pip's concern for the rest of them and his eagerness to be up. I've often thought the the nickname "unquenchables" would suit him and Merry, and it definitely fits him! And the end, with Merry coming in, is just precious! Er...maybe I shouldn't use that word...:) God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
But hobbits are... precious! And definitely unquenchable. :D
harrowcat · 10 April 2006 · Chapter 1: Chapter One
A mind reading Dwarf!?! I just love it but then Gimli has had plenty of time to get to know his hobbit! *g* Now, just wondering, how DID they get to know that Pippin is extremely sensitive to the sleeping draught? I smell another snippit of a story waiting for the writing - perhaps as a prequal to this?
Author's reply
Believe it or not, I borrowed the fact that Pippin is "sensitive to draughts" idea from one of the very first stories I wrote, in 2002 -- "Unlikely Comfort". :D
SlightlyTookish · 10 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
I love this story SO MUCH! I'm so glad you're posting this here. Now I'll have to reread it...again! :D
Author's reply
Thank you SO MUCH! :D
Linda Hoyland · 10 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
Just delightful as always.I eagerly await more. This is one of my favourite time frames for stories and I set my own first LOTR story at this time.
Author's reply
Thank you, Linda. I do love Cormallen fics. :D
Armariel · 9 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
oh oh a new Shirebound tale!!!! =:3 <---bunny
Author's reply
I will never tire of your fun 'drawings'. What a happy bunny! :D
Grey Wonderer · 8 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
I loved this on LJ and I am so glad that you are putting it here too! This is just wonderful to see the respect that the soldiers have for Frodo and Sam.
Author's reply
Thank you! I do love it when hobbits are honored and appreciated. :D
Queen Galadriel · 8 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
Awwww! This is already such a sweet beginning! I love the willingness of the men to give up their places, and of course they wouldn't complain out of awe. The ending was cute! :) God bless, Galadriel
Author's reply
Thanks, QG. I think the Men would have heard much about the Ring-bearers by now, and be quite awestruck to actually set eyes upon them.
Tigger · 8 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
Nice start Shirebound. Had to laugh at Aragorn's comment about how he should have thought of doing this sooner. One of my very best friends has cerebral palsy and many the time during High School I'd hear someone complaining about being at school w/a cold, then Stacy would pass them on her scooter and all the complaining suddenly stopped. :o) Looking forward to seeing where this goes. :oD
Author's reply
Thanks, Tigger! And I like your analogy with Stacy -- most of us take sooo much for granted until we're reminded how lucky we really are. :D
Baggins Babe · 7 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
Oh this was wonderful! I love the respect and reverence shown by the Men - what a day for them! All of a sudden they have the Ringbearers and Pippin AND two kings and an Elf!! I don't think Cormallen can ever be visited too often.
Author's reply
I have an insatiable appetite for Cormallen scenes and stories. How lovely of the Professor to leave all those days for us to fill in! Yes, that's quite the procession that just entered the shelter. What fun. Thanks, BB!
PIppinfan1988 · 7 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
LOL, I love this! I was just thinking about all that sunny weather the other day as I was patching up the story I wrote several years ago. Oh, I just love the quiet reverence the Men showed to our magnificent hobbits! I am looking forward to more! Pippinfan
Author's reply
Oooh, "quiet reverence" -- that's a great way to say it. Thank you, Pip.
harrowcat · 7 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
Well it is a bit of a drastic way to get the men to stop grumbling and complaining. Geat start as usual Shirebound.
Author's reply
Drastic but apparently effective! Thank you. Hobbits are so comforting, even when asleep.
Andrea · 7 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
Imagine that scene! Those poor soldiers, weary and injured and maybe really bored because every day is like the previous, are suddenly confronted with *Lord* Aragorn, *King* Eomer and *Prince* Legolas, carrying no other than the Ringbearers and the Prince of the Halflings! Wow! One at a time, in utter silence, all who could walk passed by the three sleeping hobbits, bowing in respect. Those who were bedridden just looked, unable to believe their good fortune. "Unable to believe their good fortune" - that describes it perfectly. Very nice! I'm looking forward to reading the next chapter :)
Author's reply
Thank you so much. I've rarely had such a persistent plotbunny clamp onto my ankle and refuse to let go. More soon!
demeter d · 7 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
As the anonynous reviewer said, "wonderful as always"! This lookks to be a delightful little story. Do continue.
Author's reply
Thank you! More soon... :D
Lindelea · 7 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
O lovely! We are thinking along the same lines, I think, visiting Cormallen as it were. I will try to get back later and pick out some favourite quotes, but I am out of time for the moment.
Author's reply
Thank you, Lin -- especially as you have such limited time to read or review anything.
Frodo Baggins · 7 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
Oh this was wonderful! I think the men would have been awed by the Ringbearers, as you so wonderfully portrayed. :) Keep up the good work! Namarie! God BLess, Frodo Baggins
Author's reply
Thank you, Frodo. I think so, too! :D
Larner · 7 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
Certainly more interesting than my idea that a special roof was hung over the tent at such times. And the soldiers must have indeed competed to offer the three of them safe havens when the storms threatened to hit.
Author's reply
I never tire of the ways we can fill in these "missing days". And I certainly never tire of folks honoring the hobbits, and seeing to their comfort! :D
Anonymous · 7 April 2006 · Chapter 0: Prologue
Éomer drew Aragorn aside. “I do not think we will hear any grumbling or complaining today,” he said. “I agree,” Aragorn smiled. “Perhaps we should have thought of this sooner.” Indeed! I eagerly await more - wonderful as always :)
Author's reply
Thank you. I'll try to get the next chapter up as soon as possible.
