You know, you're very good at making me spill my emotions

pippinsgirl · 22 November 2006 · Chapter 9: Gift of Life

very good story! i really like it

Author's reply

Thank you, Pippinsgirl! It used to be a "cute" story, as it was my first fic written close to four years ago. Now, its a somewhat better story; after my writing got a bit more sophisticated I moved it over to SOA, but its not near the story it could have been if I had caught a certain error before I jumped the gun and posted it. If I sat here and dwelled on it, that certain error would come back to me, but I have so many other things on my mind at the moment, lol. Maybe someday I'll get back to it and do a third edition. ;-) But I do thank you for stopping by to read this humble little tale. :-) Pippinfan

Garnet Took · 14 May 2006 · Chapter 9: Gift of Life

That was very sweet. Pippin fearing that Frodo didn't recognize him was sad, but it all turned out wonderfully. I hate to see this one end, as I do all your tales, but this is a good place to wrap this one up. Thanks. GT.

Author's reply

This story originally didn't go this far, so yeah, I wasn't planning on going any furhter. Thank you for reading and for the beta! :-) Pippinfan

Grey Wonderer · 14 May 2006 · Chapter 9: Gift of Life

Beautiful ending chapter! Loved everything about it. You certainly know your hobbits. I love the fact that Pippin wasn't exactly listening to Gandalf's instructions. So Pippin, that. Also loved how careful and tender Merry and Pippin were with Frodo as he woke up. Sorry to see this one end but this is the perfect last chapter.

Author's reply

Thank you, G.W.! I imagined it all to be a tearful reunion, like with Pippin and Merry. Thank you for reading and for all of your encouragement. :-) Pippinfan

shirebound · 14 May 2006 · Chapter 9: Gift of Life

“Anything and everything that we did, dear cousin,” said Merry, “was out of love for you, our dear and beloved friend.” That's a lovely way to finish up! I enjoyed this story very much.

Author's reply

Thank *you*, shirebound, for all of your wonderful reviews and encouragement! And for allowing me to use a bit of inspiration from your own tale, "Shelter". I don't know where that line came from, but suddenly it was there, and fit just where it landed. :-) I wanted the whole theme of this story to reflect that of the title. Thank you so much for reading! Pippinfan

Larner · 9 May 2006 · Chapter 8: Gift of Love

Ah, a worthy gift for Pippin, and we do have a mystery solved from the other story. Lovely indeed. And I'm not sorry it isn't over yet.

Author's reply

That's right--you were reading Courtship, too! LOL, well, for as much as I love this story, I am glad to see the final chapter coming together. I do love to read dramas written by other authors, but for me to write it, it gets to me after a while. I have to have my healthy dose of writing hummour. :-P Thank you so much for all of your encouraging words! Pippinfan p.s. I think I'm going to take my break right after book 3 instead; I don't mean any disrespect toward the good Professor, but I *need* to, lol. Its been a long journey for me--and I'm only a reader! So start looking for reviews soon. :-)

harrowcat · 8 May 2006 · Chapter 8: Gift of Love

What lovely gifts of love - both the knightings, feast and games-set. But I did want to see the knightings from you PIppinfan! Go do that research and fill it in Pleeeeeeeese! :)

Author's reply

Man, lol! I thought I had gotten away with not putting it in, but I suppose I could dive in and do the research, lol. :-) As this tale is almost finished, I will have to post it as a short story with Hobbit Tales. Can't say when that will be because I want to do it right. :-) Thank you for reading and your lovely review! :-) PF

Grey Wonderer · 7 May 2006 · Chapter 8: Gift of Love

I see you posted this after my internet connection went out. LOL I was off line for a bit but was glad to find this when I returned. It is lovely and I enjoyed every word of it. I love the friendship between Beregond and Pippin. It was one of the things that I missed most in the films. I also like the fact that Beregond wanted to give Pippin something for saving his life. Oh, and I am glad that there will be another chapter. If you need to,just keep putting in chapters. I will gladly read and enjoy all of them!

Author's reply

LOL, I had wondered what happened! One minute we were talking Hetty and the next you went busy. I figured you probably got busy and your focus was elsewhere. :-) Trust me, you'll get bored if I take this any further than the next chapter, lol. Drama gets to me after a while--I have to have a healthy dose of humor. :-) But I *am* glad that you are enjoying this--I was only too happy to put Beregond in, too. Take care. PF

Garnet Took · 7 May 2006 · Chapter 8: Gift of Love

What a sweet chapter. I love Beregond, and to see him with Pippin is wonderful. Thanks for telling the story of the lovely chess/draughts set. I'm glad this wasn't the last chapter. I want this one to go on a little longer. GT.

Author's reply

I really did want to put him in, but was still mulling it over when Lindelea responded to a chapter. Ever since you asked about how Pippin got his special draughts game, I knew from right then how he got it, but at that time, I wasn't entertaining the idea of re-writing this tale. So this was for both me and you, though you're the one who put it in the back of my mind. Thank you! Well, as you know, all things--whether good or boring--must come to an end, lol. This tale is no exception. It was fun, but I Degger's still tugging on my shirt sleeve. ;-) Thank you so much for taking the time to read and leave a review--and for all of your encouragement. PF

Pearl Took · 7 May 2006 · Chapter 8: Gift of Love

You are so good at covering stuff people have asked about!! This is sweet. How wonderful for Pippin to get a lasting momento. This has been a wonderful tale :)

Author's reply

LOL, I do try, but I'm not always successful. I like it when other authors mention items from story to story, too. The game is something Pippin treasures for the rest of his life. Thank you for all of your wonderful encouragement--there is still one more chapter to go--lol, and I mean it this time. :-) Pippinfan

shirebound · 7 May 2006 · Chapter 8: Gift of Love

What a lovely gift. I can imagine that board becoming a Took family heirloom, passed down through the generations.

Author's reply

I suppose it could be...maybe. :-) Thank you for reading! PF

Larner · 1 May 2006 · Chapter 7: Pippin's Reward

A wonderful reason to waken, I must say! Ah, Pippin, so worthy are you to be named a knight of Gondor, alongside Merry as knight of Rohan. And he's had a day to recover more fully.

Author's reply

LOL, yes, that extra day of rest was the only way to make him take it easy. Yes, they both are! :-) And the only thing I can hope for is perhaps I've given someone a reason to actually do the research/write about the knightings. Thank you again for reading! Pippinfan

Larner · 1 May 2006 · Chapter 6: In the Still of the Night

I can certainly feel with Pippin about his desire to fill his vision with Frodo and Sam; but he ought to have taken it far, far more slowly, of course. A very few problems with wording; but a marvelous chapter showing the progress Pippin is finally making.

Author's reply

Yes, he should have, but he only had eyes for Frodo at the time. ;-) Thank you--and I don't mind PMs giving me feedback on grammar and mechanics, or redundancies. In fact, I welcome them! Thank you for reading! Pippinfan

Larner · 1 May 2006 · Chapter 5: On Your Feet

The yoyo and cup-and-ball are wonderful gifts; but I understand the concern about Pippin being mistaken for a child here. So glad that he's able to be up and now has his chosen means of expression, allowing him release from the memories and pain for a time. So this is the musician who will write the Lay of Frodo of the Nine Fingers, is it? Nice.

Author's reply

I imagined that Pippin might remind some of the soldiers of their own children that they had to leave behind or watch them leave on the wains that left the City. They may or may not have taken him for a child--especially after our learning of all his journey and subsequent battles. But for the moment, Pippin is helping them cope with missing their own children. I probably should have expounded upon that, and perhaps will go back and add a bit. Thank you for the feedback! :-) "Caleblin", lol, I found in the back of the Silmarillion, and is the closest thing I could come to "Silver"(Caleb) and "To sing, make musical sounds"(lin). I tried my darndest to include "Gold" (mal), but it just wouldn't work in any position I tried. JRRT describes the minstrel as having a voice like silver and gold, so I tried to name him accordingly. And yes, I imagined him as the one who wrote, "Frodo of the Nine Fingers". Pippinfan

Larner · 1 May 2006 · Chapter 4: False Impressions

And so you and I have similar visions of the artistic skills of our heroes assisting them in dealing with their nightmares and stress, although in my version Frodo is the better artist. Love the way in which Merry handles it here. And I love the knowledge that Pippin finds similar release in music.

Author's reply

Oh, that is too cool! I really enjoy it when we share similar ideas! I first wrote about Merry's drawing abilities way back in a lesser known tale called, "From the Bottom of My Heart" and it sort of went on from there into other tales. As for Pippin, I initially didn't write him musically inclined because I, myself, am rather musically-*challenged*. I do love music, though, lol, and so I have decided that my Pippin shall, too. :-) As for Frodo...I haven't mused on him much, but I like to think that writing his book was his release after the War...however, who's to say he and Merry *both* didn't inherit the same gene for having 20/20 vision in the mind's eye? I look forward to reading about it! :-) Thank you for reading! Pippinfan

Grey Wonderer · 30 April 2006 · Chapter 7: Pippin's Reward

I love the way Pippin reacts to Aragron in this chapter. He's a bit unsure at first as to exactly what is coming, but once he knows he is more pleased for Merry than for himself. Wonderful story and wonderful chapter. I am enjoying this very much.

Author's reply

Thank you! I think Pippin knows that he isn't going to get away with his misdeed, yet at the same time, he does not feel sorry in the least for taking a look at Frodo. I am glad that you are enjoying it--I'm enjoying writing it! :-) And thank you so much for all of your faithful reading and reviews! Pippinfan

Garnet Took · 29 April 2006 · Chapter 7: Pippin's Reward

This is a wonderful chapter. I like the way you've shown how much Pippin has matured by showing that Aragorn didn't have to lecture him about what he'd done, he knew and admitted his folly. The questioning about trust was interesting. It really is a matter of trust for a patient to follow doctor's orders, and it is also a matter of trust for someone to swear service to their king. Lot's of things going on both on the serface here, and underlying, too. I can't believe there's only one more chapter. I hope you have another story brewing. GT.

Author's reply

Thank you! I imagine Pippin being at that age where he is both tween and adult. He knew Aragorn wasn't going to let him off the hook so easily. ;-) Trust, to me, is the cruxt of any relationship--a king and his knight is no exception. Aragorn knew he was dealing with a young hobbit and so tested him a wee bit. LOL, I always have a story in the back of my head...but less than half of them make it to fruition. Thank you for being a faithful reader! Pippinfan

Pearl Took · 29 April 2006 · Chapter 7: Pippin's Reward

Bless his heart! LOL I think it is so funny that Aragorn made him sleep a day through :) I'll be sad to see this end.

Author's reply

Well, knowing how rambuncious our Pippin can be, this was the only way Aragorn felt he could keep the tween in one place and rested. :-P Thank you for all your faithful readership and encouragement, Mentor! :-) Pippinfan

shirebound · 29 April 2006 · Chapter 7: Pippin's Reward

You write the combination of love and respect between Pippin and Aragorn sooo well. And ohhh, this passage is lovely: "I trust you, my lord, for so you are. You are no longer my Healer, but my King, and I hereby place my utmost trust in you.” Hobbits speak lightly, except when the occasion calls for more courtly words. I'm thrilled that "Shelter" helped spark this lovely idea for you! :D

Author's reply

Awww! Thank *you*! I merely thought that Aragorn would not let his "Knight-to-be" get away with his deed without an explanation. And I agree with your assessment of hobbit speech, although I was treading where I had really not gone before. Thank you again! Thank you so much for all of your wonderful encouragement! Pippinfan

Garnet Took · 24 April 2006 · Chapter 6: In the Still of the Night

Nice chapter. Thank goodness Gandalf was there at the end. Can't wait to see what happens next. Sorry this review is so short, but I'm getting really tired, and the hand is giving me the "stop" warning. Thanks. GT.

Author's reply

hullo! So sorry--I thought I had answered you. :-( Hope your hand is doing much better! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review, but please let your hand rest! :-) Pippinfan but not too much--I'm waiting for another chapter to Mind's Eye! ;-)

Lindelea · 24 April 2006 · Chapter 6: In the Still of the Night

Ah, yes, this sounded quite true--I can understand Pippin being drawn to Frodo, once he saw them clearly before him. I find myself hoping for another familiar face--will Beregond make an appearance in your story? After all, it was "for the love of a friend" (as your title says, though it might not be referring to Pippin's stabbing the troll to save Beregond, at deadly peril to himself) that Pippin ended up half-crushed. Anyhow, keep up the good work. (And I will hope for another quiet Monday early morning to treat myself to a snippet or two.)

Author's reply

I'm glad you enjoyed the part of Pippin being drawn to Frodo. It did't go exactly this way in the first edition; this seemed a lot more plausible, and I, too, liked the fact that Pippin would be drawn by his love for his cousin and dear friend. You are absolutely correct about Beregond--and he never made an appearance in the first draft. Why? My only guess is that I was already sweating big bullets about writing a story and publishing it for the very first time in my life. I've thought about putting him in here this time around for the very reason you mentioned, but there is also something I want him to do for our young tween. So, keep an eye out. ;-) Thank you for stopping by to read--I'm glad you did. :-) Pippinfan

Lindelea · 24 April 2006 · Chapter 3: Always There

Ah, lovely, Cormallen stuff, just perfect with the Monday morning first-cup-of-tea. It was nice to see Merry and Pippin working out the Palantir leftovers.

Author's reply

Ah...tea! That sounds lovely after being on my feet all day. It's great in the morning, too. At the time I first wrote this bit, it was something I wanted to explore. Merry must have been extremely peeved or hurt if he turned his back on someone as beloved as his Pippin. Thank you for stopping by to read! Pippinfan

Linda Hoyland · 24 April 2006 · Chapter 5: On Your Feet

I just love Aragorn's thoughtfulness in this chapter.

Author's reply

Oh, yes--their friendship is deepening every day. :-) Thank you for reading! Pippinfan

Linda Hoyland · 24 April 2006 · Chapter 2: Back Among Friends

LOvely to see Pippin recovering and finding all his friends safe.I love Aragorn's obvious affection for the Hobbits.

Author's reply

This is the first time I've explored the relationship between the hobbits and Aragorn in my universe, and indepth. I hinted at it in another tale (The Falcon's Watch), however, that was toward the "end"...this is the very beginning of it. I'm glad you're enjoying it. :-) Pippinfan

Grey Wonderer · 23 April 2006 · Chapter 6: In the Still of the Night

So, you found time to write this weekend! I am so very glad. I enjoyed this chapter very much. I liked the fact that Pippin noticed the worry and the lines on Merry's face. I also found it so very like him to try to do things on his own. My favorite part was when he felt compelled to go and see Frodo. It was as if he had no choice and I think that was something that just came from Frodo after he distroyed the Ring. I think people were drawn to him. Looking forward to more.

Author's reply

LOL, yes, I did! Actually, this is the "half" that I spoke of, but decided it should stand on its own. As I said to another reader, yes, Pippin was compelled--he wanted to see for himself, but in the end, it was love that drew him. So, in a way, you are correct--lol, he had no choice. Well, not much of one. I have no doubt that people in general were drawn to Frodo--this is the same person who forgave Gollum at the end...I believe he also forgave Saruman...Frodo gave more than ample chances for wicked folk to repent of their ways, so yeah, Frodo drew people through his learned wisdom and the great love in his heart for others. Thank you so much for reading! Pippinfan
