Grey Wonderer · 22 September 2011 · Chapter 90: A Moveable Feast

I wanna go to the feast too! This was a great idea. I also liked the fact that for once, Pippin knew more about it all than Merry or Frodo did. And once again the Banks lads turn up and get more than they bargained for when all is said and done. If only they had learned their lesson at this point in time, but there's no teaching some folks, is there? : ) This was fun to read. Thanks for sharing it.

Author's reply

Yes, Pip was on his own turf here, wasn't he? And the Bankses still have a few years yet until they dig themselves a hole too deep to climb out of! It was fun to write and fun to share! PS: I am happy-- your story made me happy in that sort of sloppy, tearful, girly way, if you know what I mean! *grin*

eiluj · 22 September 2011 · Chapter 90: A Moveable Feast

A good, satisfying hobbit story! Plenty of food and friendship, customs and kin, tales and books....

Author's reply

Thanks! I am glad it satisfied! It was fun to write.

Antane · 18 July 2011 · Chapter 89: The Birthday Gift

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get here to read this, but what a cute gift to all of us to read this story! Love the little history behind that passing mention in the Red Book. What a delightful and loving gift Gandalf gave. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

I'm sorry it took me so long to reply, but I just now found this one! I'm glad you enjoyed the story of Gerontius' gift!

Virtuella · 6 July 2011 · Chapter 89: The Birthday Gift

And thus from a single sentence, you spin a charming story! :D

Author's reply

Thank you, dear!

Baggins Babe · 4 July 2011 · Chapter 89: The Birthday Gift

Belated happy birthday, Dreamflower! What a wonderful mathom - I've often wondered about the shirt studs, and this has really answered my questions! I like Gerontius, and love the idea of Gandalf going to the dwarves. The voices are just perfect. Hope you had a great birthday.

Author's reply

I really love the idea of those shirt studs. So far as we know, it's the ONLY magical gift that Gandalf ever made to anyone. So I think that shows just how special his friendship with Gerontius was! Thank you for the nice review, and for the birthday wishes-- I had a very nice one!

Andrea · 3 July 2011 · Chapter 89: The Birthday Gift

Very nice! Thank you for this great story and happy belated birthday :-)

Author's reply

You are very welcome!

UTfrog · 1 July 2011 · Chapter 89: The Birthday Gift

Happy Birthday to you. Enjoyed the story.

Author's reply

Thank you! And I am very glad that you enjoyed it!

Kaylee Arafinwiel · 1 July 2011 · Chapter 89: The Birthday Gift

Oh, Dreamflower! Happy birthday, and thank you for such a wonderful mathom! I hope that your birthday is turning out to be a most enjoyable day! Such an interesting bit of gapfiller...I do like it very much. :) I love the shirt studs and how Gandalf came to pay for them. It's all so very Gandalf, or should I say Tharkun! Heh :D Well done, and happy birthday again! I'd love to see more of Gandalf's adventures with the Dwarves, someday! And I Hope that Miss Dora's Book is Coming Along Well! *grin* Hugs, Kaylee P.S. I wonder, since you have sparkly modly magic on our communities, do you have any idea why Outlook Express might not be working? It's how I get my email, not just from the group but all of my email. I push Send/Receive and it says how many emails it needs to download (86, now!) and then it gives me an error. Obviously, I can't get the answer from you in an email, but if you could offer a suggestion in your review reply, I'll check back later. Of course, if you don't know, that's ok, no pressure!

Author's reply

Thank you for the birthday wishes, and you are most welcome to the story! I am glad you enjoyed it. We shall have to see if any more such bunnies attack. As to your post script, I'm afraid I have no clue; it sounds as though you are having browser problems, but what they might be I couldn't venture to guess. It's possible that our "tech mod" Dawn could help you. You might try commenting to her at her lj, dawn_felagund, or on MPTT, since obviously you can't send an email!

Larner · 1 July 2011 · Chapter 89: The Birthday Gift

Ah! Delightful, my lady! And may your birthday be filled with delight as well. Too bad my gift to you is hidden at the moment.... (Tease, tease, poke, poke!) Always wanted to know how those shirt studs got to him, and now we know!

Author's reply

And I am being a good little mod and NOT PEEKING!!!! Well, Gandalf just decided to tell me about it yesterday, so I thought I'd pass it along...

Thankyou for the Mathom and Happy Birthday, Dreamflower! Lynda

Author's reply

You are quite welcome, dear! and thank *you*!

Virtuella · 22 April 2011 · Chapter 88: The Recruit

Classic situation, and well done, Freddy!

Author's reply

It is a classic situation: do you allow someone to go into danger with you? or do you refuse, knowing they might find worse danger on their own? I think the right answer for Freddy was pretty obvious!

Andrea · 19 April 2011 · Chapter 88: The Recruit

Very nice and very well done, Freddy! From what I know about Rusty I'd say that she would indeed react like Pippin in such a situation.

Author's reply

Freddy's a diplomat, even then! Rusty and Pippin's personalities are a great deal alike, which is why they managed to find ways into trouble every time they got together, LOL!

Larner · 18 April 2011 · Chapter 88: The Recruit

Hooray for Rusty! Yes, he does well to accept her in spite of her gender. Love the thoughts on Pippin here!

Author's reply

In "my" version of the Conspiracy, it was Freddy who realized that Pippin was determined to go, who first heard Pippin's desperation to be a part of things. He would most certainly recognize that same expression on Rusty's face.

Mum's the Word · 19 March 2011 · Chapter 87: Sam the Turtle Goes to Mordor

Please forgive the double review, but I'd forgotten something that had struck me, even from the title onward: Sam the Turtle was well named, since there was a time when Sam himself was inching along, carrying his "burden," his "delivery," on his own back -- supplying all of Arda with the means to destroy their Enemy when Frodo's strength failed. Beautiful, excellent! Hugs, Mum

Author's reply

What's to forgive? I don't mind-- I've done the same thing myself from time to time! And you are quite right-- and *that* is something I'd never have thought of! I have such brilliant readers!

Mum's the Word · 19 March 2011 · Chapter 87: Sam the Turtle Goes to Mordor

Dreamflower, this is adorable from so many angles! I can just picture this conversation, and Robby's drawing is both lovely and important. What a comfort it would be to Sam-Dad any time his memories and dreams turned toward that horrible, heroic experience, a reminder that he and Frodo weren't really alone in their effort. I wouldn't be surprised if Sam the Turtle went West with Sam-Dad. Well done, as always, dear Dreamflower!

Author's reply

I would not be a bit surprised either, and can just see Sam explaining him to Frodo after their reunion! I'm so glad you liked it!

Virtuella · 3 March 2011 · Chapter 87: Sam the Turtle Goes to Mordor

How very cute - both the story and the picture!

Author's reply

Thank you! It was fun!

Andrea · 1 March 2011 · Chapter 87: Sam the Turtle Goes to Mordor

It was very thoughtful of little Robin to provide his Daddy and Uncle Frodo with this very special turtle. And he was correct: It was an important matter :-)

Author's reply

Yes, he's clearly a thoughtful child-- as I think most of Sam's children would be. Indeed! It was quite important, and Sam knew that!

Antane · 1 March 2011 · Chapter 87: Sam the Turtle Goes to Mordor

What a sweet story! I love how practical Robin is and too bad indeed they did not have Sam the Turtle with them. But it does make the story more inspirational that they didn't. I love the wee hobbit's heart though for thinking about that. Cute art! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Small children are both very practical and yet don't quite understand cause and effect yet. To little Robin, he was thinking of a way to help-- and I think that even though it didn't help *then*, it will help Sam in the *now*!

cookiefleck · 1 March 2011 · Chapter 87: Sam the Turtle Goes to Mordor

Stopping by to tell you again that I LOVE this story. Perfect in every way.

Author's reply

Thank you so much! I really loved writing it, too!

Larner · 28 February 2011 · Chapter 87: Sam the Turtle Goes to Mordor

I so love this, Dreamflower, and Robin's gift to his father intended to convey comfort and aide in a black time. And the picture is perfect! Thanks for reminding me of how caring little children can be.

Author's reply

Yes. Little children do care-- I'm sure it made Robin sad to think of his father and his Uncle Frodo being hungry and thirsty, so he thought up a solution. Of course, a child's hazy notion of how time works blurs the line between what would be possible-- but it's the thought that counts, as Sam knows!

6336 · 28 February 2011 · Chapter 87: Sam the Turtle Goes to Mordor

Oh, this was sweet! I have this image in my mind of Sam the Turtle climbing Cirith Ungol behind Frodo and Sam and Gollum and trundlng along beside them with an Orc helmet on when they are forced to join the Orc troop in Mordor! Lynda

Author's reply

LOL! I am sure the strangeness of that image in *his* mind was what made Sam laugh! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Antane · 5 February 2011 · Chapter 86: Making the Best of It

So nice of Pippin to reach out to another lonely soul who is not sure they are going to like it here. They will now, partly because of each other. Sweet! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Indeed! It is always nice to know you're not alone!

6336 · 2 February 2011 · Chapter 21: A Passing Troll

Can't think of a better person for a troll snack, I do feel sorry for the troll though, she would give any one a belly ache! Lynda

Author's reply

Yes, well I think most anyone would find Hyacinth hard to digest! LOL!

Virtuella · 1 February 2011 · Chapter 86: Making the Best of It

Always a challenge to get settled into a new place, however grand!

Author's reply

It is! But I think having found that he can help someone else, and that he is not alone in his feelings will help Pippin meet the challenge head on!

Larner · 31 January 2011 · Chapter 86: Making the Best of It

Most satisfying, I think. And at least he now knows he is not alone in his newness, and has the makings of a friend in Thistle. And I find myself so pleased that he managed at the moment of meeting Thistle to sound like Frodo! He has chosen the dearest and wisest one possible at that moment to emulate, I think! Heh!

Author's reply

And at least he now knows he is not alone in his newness This is quite true-- he knows now that once his aunts were "new" there, and in the now there is Thistle, and there will be other new ones. And Pippin will always be there to befriend them, rather than exclude them. Pippin, like Frodo (and Merry), has the makings of a protector in him. And I am sure he has heard Frodo's response to unkindness before. In expressing his disapproval of the idea that perhaps someone had been making Thistle cry, he certainly would emulate Frodo. (I think, while Merry would equally disapprove of unkindness, his expression of disapproval would be less, er, temperate, than Frodo's!)
