The one foreseeing Frodo leaving before the next Yule was, of course, the most heartrending; and the pain of too much happiness is one I've felt at times. Love this.

Thanks Larner. I think that Merry would have known Frodo well enough to read the signs and know that he was intending to leave on his Adventure soon, even though none of them knew yet about the true nature of his ring. And yes, too much happiness can be hard to bear...

Thank you harrowcat! I really like the one on the Quest myself, that Pippin would know that his Merry was miserable when no one else did, and be so determined to cheer him up : )

Lovely glimpses of Merry and Pippin at Yule. I love Pippin's increasing maturity - so that the balance shifts so subtly from Merry protecting Pippin to the other way round.
