· Chapter 6: On the Threshold
For some reason I hadn't thought about how the tower would affect the rest of the Fellowship as they had to imagine what Frodo went through - strong feelings, indeed.
Having Gandalf help open Frodo's memory is brilliant - you are really on your game here.
Now remains the hard part. *waits anxiously*

Ooh, I am loving this story! There are so many small details that I particularly like scattered in what is probably my most favourite chapter so far: Gimli's wanting to remove the hand and the whip; Merry's realization of what happened to Frodo ("His cousin!"); Sam's exclamation upon seeing the blasted remains of the volcano; and Frodo's convulsively hugging the water bottle to him. Yet there are many more bits I liked too, and the chapter as a whole has left me looking eagerly forward to the next part!

Aw poor, poor Sam. He doesn't need to be there to remember but he does need the loving support of the rest to cope with the experience. And what devotion! To go into that awful place for a second time - just for his Frodo!
And Pippin! He's an addict that is going to need all the help he can get with his feelings about those dratted stones!
I am glad that Gandalf is around to help Frodo re-order his memories but I suspect that 'vivid' may be an understatement. 'Gulp' warning for the next chapter?
Oh, and I loved the idea that the men were sorry that they hadn't swept a path for the Hobbits!

Oh my god! He's such a stubborn hobbit, and also very brave!
I really hope, Frodo will not regret his decision.
But after all, this is a "shirebound story" and I trust you not to harm him too much ;-)
I also admire Sam's courage. He only needed to see the tower and all his terrible memories were back at once. But he went in anyway - for Frodo!
“Not come with you?” Sam cried out, aghast. “I’ll not leave you alone, sir. Not ever.” Taking Frodo’s hand, he stepped across the threshold.

Oh my. My heart is in my throat for Frodo... But oh how I admire his strength and bravery. And Gimli's compassion and practical caring, and Sam- dear Sam, right there for Frodo despite how difficult this is for him, too. A wonderful chapter, Shirebound. I'm sure it wasn't easy to write.

This is just marvelously told. All the little details as they approach--little things, like the rubble over which the hobbits must walk, the care taken to be sure there is no way for Shelob to enter, the view of the plain, and the description of the tower room. Sam's reluctance. I loved Merry's thought as they climbed, about "his cousin", as well. All of it just rang so true!

Ah! Another cliff-hanger! Evil, evil! :) :) Oh my, here comes the most angsty part, I have no doubt. Gandalf is going to help him remember and...it's all going to come back, isn't it? For the first time I'm beginning to wonder if it wouldn't have been better if Frodo had chosen otherwise. But we all trust you to take good care of our dearest hobbits, Shirebound. :) And poor Sam! I know that had to be hard; but it was admirable in him to go ahead, with no thought much for himself. Can't wait for the next one!
God bless,

Have I mentioned lately that I love your Gimli? Because I do. And Alcaren too. I love that he's "family" now. The hobbits seem to acquire family wherever they go! That sense of friendship and community is one of the wonderful things about your writing :)

Oh this is wonderful! Those dear - impish - cousins of Frodo's! But what would he do without them? However, it is a good thing that they did not go with him on the Quest to this point...they're too young. Namarie, mell min! GOd Bless, Frodo Baggins

Oh this was absolutely wonderful, Shirebound! And my, do you have a lot of reviews! I'm sure you've been told this before, but this story is wonderfully written and the idea is ingenious! Hannon le, mell nin, for writing this wonderful story! God Bless, Frodo Baggins

So THAT's what Frodo wanted Gandalf to do! Oh, dear. I hope he can handle the memories. Maybe that's why Sam felt Aragorn needed to be there.
I love how you pluck little snips of detail from the books and include them in your stories. It makes them feel so much a part of canon that sometimes I get confused as to what is Tolkien and what is Shirebound!
Looking forward to the next chapter. :)

Frodo is so brave to return to that dreadful room.

I love the way the members of the Fellowship continue to support and comfort Frodo. Gimli has obviously been a busy Dwarf, bless him.
How lovely to see Frodo and Sam referred to as Beings of Power. I don't think either of them ever realised what was concealed within, but thankfully others recognised it.

That's a very mean sentence to end a chapter with.
What a great idea to use the scarf! Bless Pippin!
I like what Gandalf said - two beings of power. If only they could acknowledge it.

· Chapter 5: The Watchers
I am finally all caught up w/this. I read the first chapter a few weeks ago, but then I went on a trip and when I got back...I'd rather not talk about. Anyway...I was so happy to get the update in my Inbox today. I love your Aragorn, but you know that. ;o) The way he treats all them like family...It's exactly how I feel Aragorn would have felt about the hobbits and Fellowship in general. All became family of the heart and sometimes that's more loving than actual family at times.
There are times I wish I could do what Gimli is hinted at doing here. I often wonder if literally kicking the stuffing out of something would have helped at times. I'm glad Gimli was able to...Get some sort of feeling of getting even for Frodo's sake.
Bless Merry and Pippin and their guessing game. That would have not only helped Frodo, but everyone. I also love your guard, who's name is escaping me at the moment, and his reactions to the hobbits and Aragorn. Considering I, and others, have had the impression Denethor's court would have been rigidly controlled by protocol, anyone in the old order *would* have a hard time getting used to Aragorn's way of doing things. Including a Lord who is willing to laugh and enjoy life.
Poor Frodo and Sam, but especially Frodo. It's not easy facing things like this and sometimes when you try, the people around you make it worse without realizing it. Frodo was lucky to have Aragorn and the rest of them.
Looking forward to the next chapter.

I wanted to review the last chapter, but I got thrown offline and couldn't get back on for the longest time, and then, a few days later when I did get back on, I couldn't remember what I was going to say! :( And I keep telling myself that I *must* wait till it's finished to reread it all--as I surely will. :)
Ha! Merry has a point! Leave it to the heroes to argue about who is the best hero. :) You portray the characters so well, especially the hobbits-of course! :) And is the end of this one supposed to be a cliff-hanger? *paces with anticipation* I'm not going to push it, because everyone knows I take forever to update, especially The Last Days, but...Oh, pleeeease update ASAP! I love this!
God bless,

And now I'll have to wait for more... But I love the way the Fellowship interacts in this -- the way they keep working together, whether it's to find a way to protect Frodo's feet or his heart, and for all of them to agree, and Gandalf! that TWO beings of power broke Sauron's watchers... well, you know that pleased me, mightily.
Write on!

Gimli! What a doll of a dwarf! He'll chop some dead Snaga-arse for sure! LOL It seems Sam isn't the only one who must 'protect' Mr. Frodo, eh?
I love how you've brought the bond of The Fellowship back to our minds... not that it was forgotten per se, but it's nice to see it in action once more. I just wish Boromir were there too... imagine the arse-whoopin' that would occur if HE were there! "No need for a fire, boys! Gimli and I have wiped all sign of the foul creatures away with sword and axe! Touch our ringbearer? Nay!" LOL! :)

UH oh.... fiesty Hobbit on the loose! LOL This promises to be a healing trip, and a deep (and deeply moving) story, if I know you at all Shirebound. But as you said, hobbits do tend to keep it light, so I'm sure there will be enough trouble for Pippin to keep us all laughing. Or maybe even Faramir... ::wink::
Looking foward to more. :)

You brought me to tears in this chapter when Gandalf said what he did to Frodo. But then there was dear practical Merry relieving the tension in such a hobbity way, and Sam blushing and looking at his toes. This was such a perfect, perfect scene and perfect characterizations. *hugs you and wonders what Frodo's favor may be*
