"Typical! Not enough to just stand up, sing a song and sit down again. No, she needed the linguist and the songwriter poring over every damn detail! Bloody elves!" ROFL!! Wonderful, as always, and a great choice of a song for her to sing :)

Pearl Took · 16 January 2006 · Chapter 5: The 'Dorwinion Barrel' Escapade

I've been remiss and fallen behind again, I'm sorry. This is so well done. I'll be honest and admit I don't usually read stories that are mostly Elves, but I LOVE your Elves :) :) Such a wonderful tale you are weaving, Boz!!

Daynawayna · 15 January 2006 · Chapter 17: My Kingdom For A Beer!

:O Drunk Penny! *snort!* Hee heee!!! oh to have Halbarad there to see it! ::sigh:: And a great big Southern Californian Valley Girl "Like, ohmygawd!" to Rihma... ack! ::dashes up to get right spelling::: oh yea.. Rhimlath's defense of Penny! Galadhrim ROCK! Ok, Lindir does too, and would have defended Penny's honor if not for Rhimlath. But ya know, it's nice to see them both care for her. To borrow (and mangle) a quote from the Princess Bride: I do not envy you, Penny, the hangover you will have when you awake. Until then, sleep well, and dream of .... of.... oh nevermind. ::wicked grin::

Kitty · 15 January 2006 · Chapter 18: The Morning After

Poor Penny, what a terrible hangover! All in all, with her throbbing head and the teasing, she took it surprisingly well. Now, if Rhimlath and Erestor finally were able to decide *which* version of Westron Penny is about to learn, then the whole thing had at least *one* advantage! Oh, and *thank Goodness* Erestor was *not* there to translate!! "This is Lindir we are talking about here, Pen-ii," Eleniel pointed out. "Of course it is too much to ask." I fear Eleniel is right, LOL! Oh my, it was *Rhimlath* who ended up under the table? That’s certainly unexpected! *snicker*

Souad · 15 January 2006 · Chapter 18: The Morning After

I love this story!!!!!! It's great how you put Penny, the elves and humans in this story! Very real...I feel like I know every bit of their personality. That shows that this story is written in detail. Very unpredictable also, which I love! It makes it more angsty ofcourse. I have read some Mary sue's, but I mist the detail from caraters, inviorment, plot etc etc. The emotional part is HUGE in this story ( and the first one ofcourse). It'll make it easier to see the picture, you know. I hope Penny is alright, but I doubt that. Having bad dreams maybe?? Of rohimmer women chancing after Penny with brooms * grin *....Whatever it is, it will bring up the tension and angst, which I love!! Update sooooooooooon!!!!!!! Keep up the good work!!

Bodkin · 15 January 2006 · Chapter 18: The Morning After

Poor Penny. The hangover might be better than the returning memories - or the embarrassing hints of her companions. The image of Eleniel and Mireth performing Saturday Night Fever is just hysterical - and Lindir trying to discover the lyrics of that choice number 'I'm too sexy for my shirt'. Did she sing 'I will survive' too? Mind you, it shouldn't need Elrond to point out that losing control is a very dangerous thing in her circumstances. Although the elves around her are very protective, they're unlikely to be there for her for ever. More and better Westron sounds a very good idea. And have they just discovered that she is vulnerable to all those nice diseases to which men are subject?

Author's reply

She did indeed sing 'I Will Survive': "They had to stop her (Glorfindel literally put a hand over her mouth) in mid-flow of relating how she would 'survive, so long as she knew how to love, she knew she'd stay alive' as they passed the sentries on the gates. They felt, wisely, that her singing and dancing her way past the barrows of the kings would not go down too well." :)

CatsbyCat · 15 January 2006 · Chapter 18: The Morning After

Hi Boz! I came to read this story on a recommendation from TithenFireder on Beyond Fanfiction (now The Ozone) and I'm so glad I did. For a good long while there, I had something to read every day! Lol. First the whole of Don't Panic and then you were updating this one on a daily basis - whee! I was most disappointed when you caught up with yourself. Heh. But then I went on holiday, came back and there was a new chapter! So I decided to finally de-lurk and let you know that I absolutely love this story. It's the first LOTR fic that I've ever read that didn't have Legolas as the main character (let alone even a secondary character) so that just shows how wonderfully engaging the story and characters are. As someone else said - you know elves! :o) Penny herself is fabulous and you've given such life and personalities to each and every elf that she comes across. Must say though that this latest chapter has ended with a rather ominous tone... what can be wrong? I do hope we don't have to wait to long to find out. And that it's nothing too serious... And um, may I just join the "Penny and Lindir" brigade as well? *ahem* Cheers CC By the way, you may or may not know, but TF has also posted on this site.

Author's reply

Well, thank you for reading and letting me know you have enjoyed it all so far. I hope it continues to entertain. :)

Dreamflower · 14 January 2006 · Chapter 18: The Morning After

Ah the repercussions of over-indulgence. Poor "Penn-ii"! I loved the way Lindir was trying to dig out the lyrics of "Too Sexy for My Shirt", LOL! And I fear that perhaps she has remembered what happened?

Rosealin · 14 January 2006 · Chapter 18: The Morning After

I can appreciate how Penny feels - its been many, many, many years since I felt the effects of a hangover, and of feeling still being drunk the next morning. I feel her embarrassment of not quite knowing what happened as some well meaning friend fills you in. Rhimlath's defence and reluctance to embarrass Penny is quite touching but I worry about his so called cure. Is it this that is causing to be so sick? I wait with foreboding yet bated breath the next chapter.

Daynawayna · 13 January 2006 · Chapter 15: Let's Call The Whole Thing Off

Another great chapter Boz! And yea for Penny getting up into the talan! And I love how she hid behind Lindir 'with a firm grip on his elbow'. ::giggles:: The poor girl! :) Loving this more and more with each passing day/chapter!

Daynawayna · 10 January 2006 · Chapter 14: I Won't Dance, Don't Ask Me

Wow.... the Haldir 3! LOL Good Job! Rumil sounds like an adorable rapscallion... married or no! ::giggles:: And I must say, I absolutely ADORE YOUR DEPICTION OF ELVES! I just wish PJ had shown the 'lighter side' of elves, eventhough it was a dark pre-war time. To see Legolas toying with Aragorn would have been amazing! :D I'm tellin' ya, Boz... you've been with elves. You've been THERE. I just know it. :)

Author's reply

I'm tellin' ya, Boz... you've been with elves. You've been THERE. I just know it. :) *looks incredibly shifty* ;)

Daynawayna · 10 January 2006 · Chapter 12: Lords, Ladies and Lies

WOW. you really know how to pack a whallop, don'tcha Boz! :) I love the interaction between Penny and Lindir, and how he is "honor bound" to believe her; and you know that deep down he does. I know I sound like a broken record, but this just keeps getting better and better! I need to slow down so I don't catch up.... I'd hate to have to wait a week between installments! LOL

Daynawayna · 9 January 2006 · Chapter 6: Decisions and Canticles

Yea! Penny sang! :) I'll bet she has a nice voice, too. and she chose a good song to sing as well. Now if we can just hook her up with Lindir.... :::giggles:::

Daynawayna · 9 January 2006 · Chapter 5: The 'Dorwinion Barrel' Escapade

And here I thought he might have been there for the dwarfs (dwarves? I forget!) escape from Mirkwood all those years ago! LOL It's nice to know that in FanFic, that elves are prone to 'lapses in judgement' on occasion. And I have to tell you, I am on my 3rd readthrough of LOTR, and as I read, I'm trying to discover where Penny is! LOL I'm just at the beginning of the CoE right now so I know she and Halbarad are close to arriving (have already arrived? Forgotten already! sheesh!), and this makes my reading that much more interesting. Thank you for that. :)

Author's reply

It's nice to know that in FanFic, that elves are prone to 'lapses in judgement' on occasion. Well, not just in fanfic, either - after all that's how the dwarves escaped, after all: thanks to an ellon having a glass too many and passing out. Gah - not sure whether to be flattered or terrified that you are reading LOTR with Penny's story in your head. *lol* Thank you!

Kathy_SFF · 7 January 2006 · Chapter 17: My Kingdom For A Beer!

Sorry I haven't posted sooner. I have been reading EVERY chapter. I loved how you dealt with Halabrad's (sp and sorry) death. He would certainly be a man who would go and fight even knowing he would die, and he would also still express concern over Penny by having his sons promise to look after her. I think her continued sorrow over his death very fitting, because she feels that she sent him to his death (at least until his son can provide some closure for her). Her traveling to Gondor with the elves is wonderful. I love how she has to cope with her own "real life" issues, as well as being in a situtation that affords litle privacy. I especially love her interactions with Lindir, very funny. Your scene at Cerin Amroth I especially loved. Arwen remembering her moments with Aragorn, while Penny remembers what she has read about this place (Arwen's grave). I especially love the look exchanged between Penny and Awren. I also loved Eldron's reaction to it. Your latest chapter about celebrating with the "Horse Lords" was wonderful. The smell, the reeds on the floor, the unwashed aroma, the, well you get the picture is well written. I am looking forward to the next chapter.

Well, thank you for reading and taking the time to review. I am so glad you have enjoyed it all so far. A new chapter is just posted - I hope you like it. :)

Daynawayna · 7 January 2006 · Chapter 4: The Long and Winding Road

OH dear! What an experience for Penny! I love that Lindir is looking after her and that she has a friend in him. And again, I love to hear how they traveled and took care "of business" in such detail. You've really done your research, my dear. I'm looking forward to reading more!

Bluetang · 7 January 2006 · Chapter 17: My Kingdom For A Beer!

I have enjoyed your works so far. Having them posted at such a rapid pace was great. I can't help but think that Penny could have at least some knowledge of modern contraptions she may be able to pass on. At least that is what I would do to improve living conditions. I know this would not be approved of in the fan fic community, as it would not be correct for the LOTR living conditions. Be that as it may, please hurry with the next posting. I think I'm having withdrawls.

Daynawayna · 7 January 2006 · Chapter 1: Dulce Et Decorum Est

You did that heartbreakingly well, Boz. I love that you brought his 3 boys into the story. Did you 'semi-create' them like people do with Legolas' mother, or are they named in the book? Regardless, they are already deep and noble characters. I love them because I love Halbarad-- because you brought him and them to life for me. And his concern for Penny, even as he lay dying... I've had enough tears for a while due to the untimely passing of a friend, but I'm still reading! :) Keep up the good work!

Author's reply

I completely created the sons. Legolas has to have a mother (though most people portray her as deceased, strangely), but there is no information about Halbarad - who he was, his age and whether he was even married let alone if they were children. So, no, they are entirely OCs all three of them. So glad you are enjoying it all. :)

rosealin · 6 January 2006 · Chapter 17: My Kingdom For A Beer!

I have followed the Penny journey into Middle Earth. I really enjoyed this last chapter and I eager to find out what's in store for her next.

Kreestuh · 5 January 2006 · Chapter 17: My Kingdom For A Beer!

Yay! I can review. I've been reading this story for a week or two (not all in one reading, which is strange for me- normally I read and read and read...) and I'm glad I've taken my time. It's so interesting! I really love it all thus far, and can't wait till the next update. Please continue!

Lindelea · 29 December 2005 · Chapter 17: My Kingdom For A Beer!

Ah. The clash of cultures. If Halbarad had been able to see them all, he would have wet himself. Ah, Halbarad. We miss you so. It very nearly flattered them enough to make up for the dreadful walk up the hill. This and the sensitive Elvish noses and the Elvish hair... I love your gentle poking fun at Elves, even if they are darned near immortal and unapproachable by the average mortal. because they had learned Lindir was in charge of the stables of Imladris (and thus he was instantly considered a friend for life by any Rohirrim) One of many lovely details. (last seen surrounded by burly Rohirrim trying to explain to him why downing a tankard of beer as quickly as possible was a really good idea). LOL. The whole party sounds vaguely like a German harvest festival I went to a long time ago. And the grammar gremlin chimes in: were discretely wiping and washing the fruit, the cups, the cutlery and anything else they may need to use. suggest changing "may" to "might" to make verb tenses agree

Dreamflower · 29 December 2005 · Chapter 17: My Kingdom For A Beer!

Oh dear! This is just too hilarious for words...right now anyway! I'll have to come back to it in the morning, but I just had to say--I *loved* Lindir and Hhimlath coming to Penny's defense...

Dreamflower · 28 December 2005 · Chapter 16: Rohan Ho!

Wow, a whole 'nother bout of culture shock for Penny. Not so dire as Bree, not so overwhelming as Rivendell, but just as difficult in its own way--it has to feel very strange to find herself once more among humans, and yet unable to communicate with them. She is going to appear quite an anomaly to the people of Rohan and to Gondor--obviously human, yet only able to communicate with the Elves. She really should have paid more attention to those Westron lessons.

Author's reply

She really should have paid more attention to those Westron lessons. Indeed. As becomes brutally clear in the next chapter. *cackles evilly* Seriously, though, she is no linguist and Rhimlath and Erestor bickering all the way from Lothlorien didn't help matters, so it was not a case of 'not paying attention' so much as 'making little headway due to ability/circumstances'. But then I do so love landing Penny in it up to her neck (as you will see from chapter 17...)

Lindelea · 28 December 2005 · Chapter 16: Rohan Ho!

I figured Lindir would have to be married, after what you said earlier about Elves marrying young... and he's been around long enough to garner fame, after all. A fascinating chapter, and at the end, very sobering. Well done, as always. Intricate description that never becomes tedious. Very realistic reactions. Am interested to know what happens next, and if Pen-ii ever does get to see the inside of the Hall, or whatever it's called. (Sorry, bad cold, on my way back to bed now.)

Kitty · 28 December 2005 · Chapter 14: I Won't Dance, Don't Ask Me

I see - *never* ask elven warriors about battles! *LOL* And I feel with Penny – I remember a Celeborn-Haldir-slashfic I’ve read once and certainly wouldn’t think of it with Galadriel anywhere near me! Rúmil and the dancing were a lot of fun. And the end ... My wife would kill me *grin* You’re right, that we don’t know something about it doesn’t mean they’re not married. Most of them could be, even Legolas or Glorfindel. Can you imagine how disappointed all the fangirls would be if someone would find something where JRRT wrote down that they’re married? It would be a very big shock for the slash fans! *eg*
