Sometimes when all seems bleak the love of our friends and family is all we have to cling to. And, somehow, I don't think that it is just Pippin who is doing that in this moment.

Oh, how well they would have known had HE taken it. Love the worries a young Took has for those he loves, and the compassion of Gandalf. Good characterizations.
