Alison H · 28 January 2006 · Chapter 21: Moonrise

Get thee to Dol Amroth now, Eomer, or Lothiriel will be forced to choose one of the unsuitable suitors!! Can you imagine Elphir choosing a huband for his sister? No wonder she was aghast at the very idea! Good for Imrahil telling his daughter that she could marry a Ranger if that would make her happy but I don't think, somehow, he will be too disappointed when he realises who she wants. I love the way both Lothiriel and Eomer are unsure of their feelings for each other. They tip-toe around each other but just need that little push.Aragorn's advice, to follow your heart, could be just the thing to send Eomer galloping to Dol Amroth.I hope so. Thanks again for this wonderful story.I don't want it to end! Take care. Ali.

Author's reply

Hello Ali, Aragorn has always given good advice and I agree Eomer should follow it. Not much longer now until they meet again. Don't worry about the story finishing anytime soon. It keeps growing and growing in my mind! At the moment it looks like I'll still be writing it in April. Take care, too. Lia

Macphisto's girl · 21 January 2006 · Chapter 20: Sisterly advice

I love the chapter and the way it's described the relationship between them. And I can imagine her giving a good advice, because she knows her brother better than anyone. Suddenly I'm becoming a fan of Eomer and Lothiriel too (I used to love F and E)... when this happen ! I'm going on vacations next week, but I hope see more of this story when I come back! Please post soon Greetings for U too, wherever you are... MPG

Author's reply

Hello Macphisto's girl, as you see Eomer had that talk with his sister that you predicted. Next we'll see Lothiriel doing a bit of growing up. Enjoy your vacation! If it's somewhere warm I envy you. I live in Switzerland and at the moment it's absolutely freezing here. Good writing weather, though. Lia

BM · 21 January 2006 · Chapter 20: Sisterly advice

I love this! Every new chapter is more enticing and entertaining than the last! Please keep them coming! I am definitely looking forward to seeing what Eomer is going to have to go through to win Lotheriel's hand, and I'm afraid of what damange the lady in question is going to do to the situation when she gets back to Dol Amroth ahead of Eomer! I just hope she doesn't do something foolish like immediately accept a suitor, though watching Eomer scare the guy to death and challenge him would be fun, especially when considering the shock that would ripple through the kingdom at this "uncouth" horselord's actions. And watching him try to woo her on the terms of the staunch and stuffy court traditions of Gondor and Dol Amroth should be entertaining as well. I wonder how long Eomer's temper will hold before he finally just pitches it all to the wind and decides to win her Rohan-style! This is an excellent story, wonderfully written and better quality than some published books I have read! Keep up the good work! BM PS--the only thing I"m going to miss are Faramir and Eowyn. I know Eowyn would have gotten a kick out of watching her brother!

Author's reply

Hello BM, that's quite an interesting scenario you've outlined. However, I don't think Lothiriel would be quite so quick to accept a suitor at once. She has recovered from her shock and we'll get to see her side in the next chapter. I'm glad you like my story. I try to make it entertaining with a few unexpected twists. And we'll get to see Eowyn again at same later stage. Lia

Bodkin · 21 January 2006 · Chapter 20: Sisterly advice

Well done, Eowyn. I don't think you can go wrong with that advice! Go to Dol Amroth, grovel and put in your claim is definitely better than die of unrequited love or send her your head. Eomer seems to have spotted his error - and that Lothiriel was enjoying herself up to that point. Now he just has to win everyone over. Well, nobody said that love was easy. And surely, (fingers crossed), Imrahil won't be able to resist the idea of a king as a son-in-law. And Lothiriel won't be able to resist the accompanying horse. And Horse Lord.

Author's reply

Hello Bodkin, I don't know, sending her his head would definitely leave a lasting impression! On the other hand I'm already busy writing that grovelling scene. I'm not sure he knows how to grovel, though. However, the horse might make the difference. Lia

Nilmandra · 21 January 2006 · Chapter 20: Sisterly advice

She'd probably smash him one for insinuating she had a long neck. Otoh, I hope Eomer listens to his sister this time! Go, and go quickly!

Author's reply

Yes, he'd better not listen to that last bit of advice of his sister's. The last man to compare Lothiriel to a swan got drowned for his troubles.

Alison H · 21 January 2006 · Chapter 20: Sisterly advice

Eomer has to take Eowyn's advice and get himself to Dol Amroth asap! I really enjoyed this chapter, especially when Eomer was virtually squirming listening to Eowyn's words. Her tongue is definitely sharper than Guthwine! I feel bad for Eomer, though. He has never been under a woman's spell before and he isn't sure how to react to what he is feeling--- not even realising that Lothiriel is feeling the same way.As usual, Eowyn talks some sense into her brother, I hope! I wonder how Lothiriel is faring with her summons home? I hope she's not in too much trouble but she has to sort out her feelings for Eomer before her father betrothes her to someone else. Hurry and update.I love this story! Ali.

Author's reply

Hello Ali, we'll get Lothiriel's view of things next and also what her father has in store for her. Glad you enjoyed the chapter, I enjoyed writing it. An update is planned for the next weekend. Lia

Macphisto's girl · 16 January 2006 · Chapter 19: Lothiriel’s sins catch up with her

Are you enjoying all the power as an author? Yes, you do! I'm suffering here! (nah! I'm enjoying this story very much!) Well, Lothiriel must grow up from this... This are the consequences young lady! (that's sounds like Elphir!) And Eomer... he it's going to be so sad... He should have broken that door down? Maybe, but I don't think so. This two are meant to be, but not yet! They must learn something from this... that's my POV. Eomer have a clever sister, I'm sure that they will talk... and she can help his brother! Let's see what's happen in this story...

Author's reply

Yes, it's rather nice to be omnipotent, even though it's only on paper (or rather in bytes). You've summed up my own thoughts. Lothiriel has to face her feelings and Eomer will have that talk with his clever sister (in the next chapter in fact). Greetings to Argentina

Nilmandra · 15 January 2006 · Chapter 19: Lothiriel’s sins catch up with her

I finished reading and found myself pondering Elpir - he has less power over Lothiriel than one might think, since he didn't just drag her home from Minas Tirith himself. And he certainly was proud of her during the archery tournament, though I suppose he was caught up in the moment. But he has arrived in Emyn Arnen and Melian is pregnant... and he is more concerned about riding roughshod over his sister! Moron (excuse me). Well, perhaps that will slow them down. Or perhaps the bandits will. Not a nice thought, but I do like Eomer riding to the rescue again. After all, he did promise that he would protect her.

Author's reply

Hello Nilmandra, Elphir probably does have his good points, but they are hard to spot. I did briefly consider having Lothiriel ambushed on the way to Minas Tirith, but decided that it would be too much of a coincidence, after all the Southrons were pretty much beaten last time we saw them. No, he should really have broken that door down!

Dreamflower · 15 January 2006 · Chapter 19: Lothiriel’s sins catch up with her

Uh-oh. Oh dear! Lothiriel upbraiding herself for acting like a slut--so she thinks. Eomer probably upbraiding himself for nearly taking advantage of her--so he thinks. And Elphir is an interfering prat.

Author's reply

That just about sums it up, doesn't it! It's amazing how people can missunderstand each other sometimes, especially when they are helped along by a sadistic author.

Bodkin · 15 January 2006 · Chapter 19: Lothiriel’s sins catch up with her

Oh dear. As if Lothiriel didn't have enough to worry about. And Elphir does come over as a complete ... idiot. Starched shirt. Narrow-minded, rigid bigot. But still, I expect he has his good points. Don't know what they are, though. And judging from the letter, he inherited some of these characteristics from his father. But I don't think it will be long before a certain King of Rohan sets off for a visit to the sea. Always provided, of course, that he evades the blades of the Southrons and returns undamaged to Emyn Arnen.

Author's reply

Hello Bodkin, I believe every family needs a complete idiot, so I provided the Princes of Dol Amroth with one. Elphir is so nicely annoying, I rather like him. As for Imrahil, we'll get to see his side of things quite soon. First Eomer is confronted with the news, though.

Merenwen · 12 January 2006 · Chapter 18: On the nature of courage

I have been anxiously awaiting the next chapter, and I was not disappointed in the least! I enjoy the fact that she is still haunted by what happened. I know I would be if I was in her position. Poor Eomer. His temper gets out of control, and now his horomones do. Tsk tsk. Keep it coming! I cannot wait for the next one!

Author's reply

Thank you for your praise. Yes, poor Eomer. I'm afraid it's going to get worse for him before it gets better. He really has to watch those hormones.

Macphisto's girl · 11 January 2006 · Chapter 18: On the nature of courage

Eomer, Eomer, Eomer! what did U do! ... Ohh! I love this chapter! It make me smile when Lothiriel goes to the stables... and later Eomer... mmmmmm! And the end of the chapter... God! So dramatic! so romantic! Can't wait a week for more! but I have to... =P But U have been true to your word and wrote more! That's very important for us... (again sorry for the verbs and everything... =S... I'm learning!) Thanks!

Author's reply

Hola Macphisto's girl, Yes, I'm afraid Eomer got carried away a bit in this chapter and will have to pay the price, I'm afraid. I've been busy over Christmas and had lots of ideas, but then you will see. Next chapter should be up this weekend or at the beginning of next week.

Etharei · 11 January 2006 · Chapter 18: On the nature of courage

OMG, I absolutely *love* this story! I have always liked to see women portrayed as strong and independant, and I doubt that Eomer would have married someone who couldn't stand her own against him. My favourite parts are their initial meeting and the archery tournament. I find your characterizations to be very effective and believable, and I like the little ominous notes you add every now and then, though it is quite EBIL of you to string your readers along so! Wonderful, brilliant story, please keep on writing and update soon *poketh*!

Author's reply

Hello Etharei, you have found me out - I enjoy tormenting my readers with ominous hints and cliffhangers! It's one of the few joys of being an author! I'm pleased you like my story and thanks for telling me which bits you like, that's always interesting to know for me.

Dreamflower · 9 January 2006 · Chapter 18: On the nature of courage

A lovely and realistic chapter. Of course she is going to be in distress and confusion, and I liked Eomer's frank admissions to her. Most of all I liked this part: “You didn’t though, did you?” Éomer replied. “Do you know who is the bravest person I’ve ever met?” he asked her. “Your sister?” Éomer shook his head. “No, the halfling Frodo. He wasn’t a trained warrior, yet he went into Mordor with little hope of succeeding and even less hope of ever returning, because it was the right thing to do. People are already forgetting that the ring war wasn’t won by force of arms.” But those directly involved will never forget the debt they owe to the hobbits. Eomer will always remember: not only Frodo and Sam, whose deed was accomplished at just the right time to save the forces of the West at Morannon, but Merry--who saved his sister's life, and Pippin, who saved his brother-in-law's life. The kiss and its aftermath was also understandable. Of course Eomer stopped in time--he is an honorable man. But it has thrown both of them into confusion. And that last line sounds very ominous.

Author's reply

I always liked the Hobbits' role in the books. In my eyes, it's one of the main things that distinguishes Tolkien's tale from most other Fantasy fiction. And that last line is meant to sound ominous!

Dreamflower · 9 January 2006 · Chapter 17: Lothiriel has an idea

My goodness how exciting! Of course I knew just what she was up to when she ran to the water. Razmir was rather an idiot going into a pool of unknown depth wearing full armor. *sheesh*give the man a Darwin award* And of course the Good Guys arrive in the nick of time. The description of the fight was very well done, and held my attention--I often skim fight scenes as I find them confusing, but not this one!

Author's reply

Glad you liked the fight and I agree on Razmir. Some men just don't have the brains. Somehow all of Éomer's rivals turn into potential Darwin Award winners, don't they? Just look at Dorlas!

Dreamflower · 9 January 2006 · Chapter 16: Captured

Eowyn killed one with a cheese knife! Yes! And of course the horses went for help. Lothiriel's reactions are very realistic--first panic, then anger to clear the mind. Go Eomer and Faramir! Make it quick!

Dreamflower · 9 January 2006 · Chapter 15: A day off

I'm so glad to get a chance to get back to this! Eowyn deserves to feel a bit guilty over her maneuvering. Certainly she wants to see her brother happy, but I think the that two principals would eventually have found their way together anyway (after all, it's canon, LOL!) and this may actually have been a set-back. And look what she subjected Lothiriel to in Dorlas--if Eomer had not happened along, he might have done something *really* regrettable. I love the observation about "ferocity". The Rohirric culture is very Saxon in its outlook--in Edoras had Eomer killed Dorlas under those circumstances, he would have paid weregild to his family, and the Rohirrim would have clucked their tongues over what a fool Dorlas was, and there would not have been much more in the way of repercussions. And the ending--not exactly a cliffie, more like *ominous music* in the background...

Author's reply

Hello dreamflower, welcome back! Interesting, your observation on Rohirric culture and I agree with you. Lothiriel with her sheltered upbringing has a slightly more squeamish attitude over killing a man (at the moment)...

Nilmandra · 8 January 2006 · Chapter 18: On the nature of courage

I am sort of wishing he would have just broken down the door too! I hope that last line does not mean their romance is set too far back. I am glad he has found out that he has underestimated her again, though. She is no helpless female.

Author's reply

Hi Nilmandra, I warned you, didn't I. The main problem these two have is siblings sticking their noses in at the wrong time. You'll see...

Bodkin · 8 January 2006 · Chapter 18: On the nature of courage

So promising. Right until the last minute! It would have spared Éomer a lot of trouble, though. Oh dear. I hope Lothiriel doesn't do anything silly. I was so pleased to see this restarted - I look forward to more.

Author's reply

Hello Bodkin, as you see I've been thinking on those twists of fate you mentioned! I think there might well be a bit more of them before the unravelling begins...

harrowcat · 8 January 2006 · Chapter 18: On the nature of courage

Oh, what a place to leave it! Am loving this and now I've got to wait all over again!

Author's reply

Hello harrowcat, glad you like it. The next chapter should be out next weekend I hope.

Bodkin · 20 December 2005 · Chapter 17: Lothiriel has an idea

Not a bad scheme Lothiriel thought up there - especially considering she had very little time and not much experience. (Tormenting brothers probably helped!) The recollection that she deliberately killed Razmir will, I expect, get to her once she wakes - even though he deserved it, the first kill is probably the worst and then she saw the rest of the skirmish. But she can feel proud of herself - she upheld her family's reputation for fighting ability. Eowyn will be proud of her -(I still think cheese-knife training will come in handy.) Eomer will be protective - and Faramir will feel he's let his uncle down when it comes to protecting his daughter. I'm glad they're safe - even if I do think it will take Eomer a few more twists of fate before he manages to carry Lothiriel off to Edoras.

Author's reply

Hello Bodkin, a masterful summary! That's pretty much how I see it, our minds seem to run along similar lines. I will have a think on those twists of fate during the Christmas holidays. I'm having too much fun with this story to let it end in peace and harmony already. That cheese knife seems to have made a lasting impression. Still, I am Swiss after all, I thought it would add a personal touch! Merry X-mas! Lia

Nilmandra · 18 December 2005 · Chapter 17: Lothiriel has an idea

Lothiriel was brave to take him on in the water... although it did even the advantage some. And Eomer does seem to be very protective and unlikely to let her go now!

Author's reply

Hello Nilmandra, yes, I thought the water would be the one place where she would be at an advantage using her skills and her head. After all she's not the sword-wielding sort like Éowyn. As for Éomer, there's still a few more chapters to go and a few more messes to get into before we hear the sound of wedding bells. Merry Christmas!

Merenwen · 18 December 2005 · Chapter 17: Lothiriel has an idea

I do love this story so much. Although Lothiriel's plan was well thought out, the end of it for her was not what she expected, and at least he had a well deserved death. Some men just do not have brains. I also love how those two can still poke fun at one another, even when worse comes to worse. It shows a lot about them as people.

Author's reply

Hello Merenwen, glad you enjoyed it. As I said before, Lothiriel's plans don't always work out the way she imagines they will. As for Razmir and his brother, it was a pleasure to write them out of the story this way. They deserved it! Where Éomer is concerned, he might have to work on his compliments a bit, but at least he got the rescuing right ;-)

Macphisto's girl · 18 December 2005 · Chapter 17: Lothiriel has an idea

First, I'm really sorry... I'm from Argentina and my english it's terrible (the verbs and everything!) So, I hope you can't understand my message correctly! Well... I love and enjoy every chapter... Good work! You're and excellent writer! Really! And, it's obvious... I want more, more!! ahahaha! That's all... for now. Thanks! Feliz Navidad (Merry Christmas) and a Happy New Year! For everyone!

Author's reply

Hello Macphisto's girl, don't worry about your English it's bound to be better than my Spanish. I'm pleased you like my story. The next few chapters are pretty much in my mind now, so more will be coming up in January. Saludos a Argentina y feliz navidad!

Nilmandra · 12 December 2005 · Chapter 16: Captured

Lothiriel and Eowyn are very brave.. and I look forward to seeing what Lothiriel has planned. Good for both of them for fighting back!

Author's reply

Glad to see you're still enjoying my story. Things should get really interesting in the next chapter. I suppose after facing the Witch King a band of brigands seems not so intimidating to Éowyn, or maybe she's just too furious to care. As for Lothiriel she's getting over the initial shock now and getting bright (?) ideas...
