I was just surfing around SoA this morning, and came across this--I can't believe I had never read it before!
What beautiful angsty imagery! I love the way the scent of lavender is able to take him away for a little while, from all his trouble. But his nights in Minas Tirith must have been so long and lonely...

I'm glad your surfing led you my direction :)
Yes, it must have been hard for both Pippin and Merry to be without another hobbit. It's the one thing, of all they did have to go through, that Frodo and Sam didn't have much of. There was only the short amount of time after the Shelob incident. Merry and Pippin had several days and leagues of distance between them.
Thank you so much for reading and responding, Dreamflower!

What a lovely story. You captured the mood of his being alone in a strange place so well, and what a neat surprise to see him brought back to the shire by his scented pillow. Wonderfully done.

Thank you so much for reading and responding! :) I guess I hope that such little amenities as sachets in the linen press would continue even in a city under threat of war, a habit that is done without thought. Thank you :)

Oh, a lovely expansion of that book sequence. A very good one, I must say. Thanks.

I enjoyed this very much. Poor Pip must have felt very small and lonely that first night in Gondor, especially with Gandalf absent too. I always get that feeling from reading about his first days in Gondor whenever I read the Professor's own words. You conveyed that disorientation beautifully.

Thank you so very much :) It is always an extra special thrill to be told that a story fits in well with what the Professor wrote. Thank you for reading and responding :)
