LOL - why couldn't the eagles just take Frodo? The answers are clear though why that couldn't happen, but it's great that you had one of the Fellowship muse on that. Pippin does think about a lot of things. That's why he always has so many questions. :)

lovethosehobbits · 19 November 2005 · Chapter 8: Choices

I have always wondered why they *didn't* just have the eagles take them...but then we wouldn't have our wonderful story, huh? keep up the great work, kiddo.

Tigger · 19 November 2005 · Chapter 8: Choices

Oh how I loved Aragorn's chat w/Merry. He was right. Even though the majority of them had thought about the choice when it came, Aragorn realized that choice had already been made. To follow Frodo to whatever end. Good old dependable Merry realizing exactly why Boromir was watching Frodo. Not as Frodo, but as the Ringbearer. And that brings us to another conspiracy of love (love that term BTW), to keep an eye on Boromir for Frodo's sake. Looking forward to the next part. :o)

Ooh, young hobbits in thoughtful mood and growing up soo fast are just too lovable! What a choice for each of the Fellowship and yet no choice really. Each does what he has to and honest choices are rewarded.

aprilkat · 19 November 2005 · Chapter 8: Choices

Another lovely chapter. I appreciate the way the hobbits are considered equally in the Fellowship in terms of making decisions. Pippin IS growing up, and I like the way you show Merry's mind always thinking through plans (yeah, why DON'T they try to get the Eagles to transport the Ring?! Only Gandalf knew.)

SurgicalSteel · 19 November 2005 · Chapter 8: Choices

Another lovely chapter! Aragorn's gentle interaction with Merry, reminding him that there are multiple options available - and lovely interaction between Merry and Pippin. Great idea about the Eagles that Pippin had!

Andrea · 19 November 2005 · Chapter 8: Choices

Merry sighed. "You're growing up so fast, Pip, it's hard to keep up." Oh, I love that sentence! Pippin is really a wonder - even to Merry. "If only one of the eagles could fly Frodo to the mountain..." Now, that's a thing I've actually wished for myself. Unfortunately most aims are not so easily achieved.

Armariel · 19 November 2005 · Chapter 8: Choices

So sweet of Sam to try to make Pippin comfortable, and of Frodo to be concerned about Boromir. Love that movie Boromir, he's a dear, isn't he? I didn't like him so much in the book.

Garnet Took · 19 November 2005 · Chapter 8: Choices

What wonderful moments you had again in this chapter. That last bit with Merry musing on the way things were was great. The exchanges between Merry and Strider and Merry and Pippin were lovely. I also really enjoyed just that little moment when Boromir moved Pippin to the boat. That was a Pippinhealers delight.:) Can't wait for the next chapter. Garnet Took.

French Pony · 19 November 2005 · Chapter 8: Choices

It's good to see Merry and Pippin taking their upcoming decision seriously. Merry is an adult, and Pippin nearly so -- neither of them are bumbling idiots, and I love to see them shown as thinking logically about a situation and deciding what to do about it. They're kind and perceptive, but unfortunately their choice will be made for them. I wonder what it is with characters wanting to hide injury. I see it all the time. That's not smart, and Boromir ought to know that. Even if it's a little thing, he should at least mention it in case the wound gets infected or something. Or they have to fight and he's suddenly hampered by an injury Aragorn doesn't know about.

lovethosehobbits · 16 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Stout Hearts

Well *finally* I'm catching up. Loving this fic and still can't believe you never posted it! The gentle loving attention to all the members of the Fellowship just shines through and is so characteristic of your style, my friend!

Linda Hoyland · 16 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Stout Hearts

This was a lovely touching chapter,Pippin is so brave and unselfish to want to share the lembas.I love the way they all comfort him and how Aragorn cheers Merry. This is a lovely story.

Grey Wonderer · 15 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Stout Hearts

(On occasion I see a clear light that..." He shook his head, unable to explain it. "I have seen the way Samwise looks at him; I believe he sees it as well. We have been greatly honored to be in this Company.") That was my favorite part of this chapter, but I also loved Merry and Aragorn both agreeing to be brave for a while longer.

Grey Wonderer · 15 November 2005 · Chapter 6: Son of Gondor

Wonderful chapter. I do love Boromir with the hobbits and it is one of my biggest regrets that he fell to the ring and did not survive the quest. I am enjoying him in this tale even though I know he is beginning to feel the pull of the ring. He is still so protective of all of the hobbits. I liked the small talk that he had with Frodo in this chapter.

Larner · 14 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Stout Hearts

Yes, the Thain's heir is indeed growing up, and becoming more concerned about the others as he can. And that he's wanting to see to it the others get to share the Lembas is wonderful. Now it's not Frodo at the center of the pile, but Pippin, and all others seeking to reassure him and give him comfort; and the idea of Gimli taking the four of them home to keep him company and do for him in Erebor is priceless. As for the specialness of Frodo and Legolas seeing his Light--you know how much that has always meant to me.

Tigger · 14 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Stout Hearts

Oh that sweet adorable little hobbit. Wanting to make sure he wasn't the only one getting Lembas. I just want to hug Pippin for that. And while I know it can't compare w/being hit over the head, I do get some doozy migraines and Pip's head really had to hurt. I've also had my share of medicine over the years and I can imagine what willow bark tea must taste like. Poor Pip. I love Aragorn here, but I do love Healer Aragorn the most out of all of Aragorn's idenities. I've always had the impression if he was given the choice, all he'd want would be to stay in Rivendell w/Arwen and simply be a healer. Destiny doesn't always work that way though. Looking forward to the next part. :o)

Pearl Took · 14 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Stout Hearts

Such sweet chapter! Hobbits do get into one's heart :) And Pippin growing up would certainly touch Merry's heart :)

Breon Briarwood · 14 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Stout Hearts

"Perhaps the Black Lands will seem less dark when hobbits have invaded it!" Okay, now that was just priceless! Not just that line either, but the whole chapter. *loves*

Pearl Took · 14 November 2005 · Chapter 6: Son of Gondor

Everyone's feelings are so stressed right now, it's a wonder they aren't all arguing. The tension between Frodo and Boromir is growing quickly. Well Done!

Garnet Took · 14 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Stout Hearts

Such a sweet chapter. I loved the part where Merry and Aragorn were talking. I hope Merry got the chance, at some future point, to show Aragorn just how much hobbits viewed as acceptable for a meal. Pippin sharing his lembas with Frodo was precious. Aragorn is right, he is certainly growning up. Thanks. Garnet Took.

Ainu Laire · 14 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Stout Hearts

Aragorn: *reads reviewer response and spits coffee out* Pardon?! I am all *hers*? You must be jesting! No, sorry ranger, she ain't. You're all mine... *eyes gleam* Aragorn: *narrows eyes* I believe I belong to myself. Nuh uh. You ish mine! *jumps up and clings to him* Aragorn: *tries to get her off of him without doing damage and utterly fails* *sighs* Would you get off me? *happily* No! Aragorn: Please? No! Aragorn: Saes? ... aww, you used elvish! How sweet! *claps hands in joy* Aragorn: *uses this chance to run off* ... hey! Hey! ... *blinks* Well... fine! Thhwppptt! ... oh! Yes! Chapter! AWW! Pip is growing up! And yes, Merry, you will get to go home :) *pats hobbit* Such a sweet little hobbit :D *bounces around* Guess what? Baggins Babe · 14 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Stout Hearts

This whole story is so wonderful and plausible that I feel I'm reading all the bits the Professor left out. I've been meaning to review more often but RL keeps getting in the way at the moment. Love our wonderful resiliant hobbits, irrepressible Pippin and caring Aragorn, and Boromir is so believeable. The ring is so subtle in the way it has hooked him, but I love his protective feelings towards Frodo as well as the other hobbits. I never felt much pity for book Boromir but Sean Bean made him so human and real that I feel more grief at his death than I used to. I really enjoyed the exchange between Legolas and Gimli. Their friendship is already growing.

aprilkat · 14 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Stout Hearts

I SO love your presentation of hobbits and how they affect those around them. Pippin truly is growing up here, and you show us these things so beautifully and naturally. Plus, I am always a sucker for those who appreciate Frodo's innate goodness and understand the toll being taken on him. Hope - it's what hobbits bring!

Andrea · 14 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Stout Hearts

That was perfect, Shirebound! "Perhaps you had better take a few hobbits home with you." That's a very good advice. I'd love take some hobbits with me :) ... and show them the way to my company to start an invasion, that would be funny! Little Pippin is growing real fast into adulthood. To share his lembas with the others, who would have thought of that! But, no matter how old a hobbit is, they will always detest willow bark tea. That stuff must be awful!

Dreamflower · 14 November 2005 · Chapter 7: Stout Hearts

What a sweet chapter! The Elf said nothing for a few moments. "I have never seen or heard of anyone enduring so much. The evil of the Ruling Ring must tear at his very soul, yet he refuses to listen. I would not even jest about the destiny of such a one." He looked toward Frodo, lying asleep as close to Pippin as he could get. "He shines, sometimes, Gimli. On occasion I see a clear light that..." He shook his head, unable to explain it. "I have seen the way Samwise looks at him; I believe he sees it as well. We have been greatly honored to be in this Company." I love the way Legolas, too, has seen Frodo's light... Then Gimli's eyes twinkled. "Perhaps the Black Lands will seem less dark when hobbits have invaded it!" Legolas laughed and clapped Gimli on the back. "Indeed, that would be a sight worth all our troubles." Why does this remind me of a certain invasion of the fluffies? *wink* "He's growing up, Merry." "I know. I wonder if his family will even recognize him. It might be difficult for Pip, when we get back... get back to..." Merry stopped, his smile fading. "Strider," he said quietly, "do you think we'll ever get back home? Is there any hope?" Aragorn put the packets down and folded Merry in his arms. "There is always hope," he said just as quietly, “although we are attempting something very difficult. I don't know how, but Gandalf seems to have chosen the four finest hobbits in the Shire for this quest." He knelt down and looked into Merry's eyes. "You've been very brave; you never let Pippin know that you have any doubts or fears. I'm sure it hasn't been easy for you." Merry gazed at him solemnly. "It's what you're doing for Frodo." "Yes it is," the Ranger agreed. "Let's keep being brave for awhile longer, all right?" What a sweet moment between Merry and Aragorn. There just aren't enough of those around! Thank you so much for this lovely chapter.
