· Chapter 11: Hearts Unfurled
Aaaaaaahhhhh *drooling all over the place like the filthiest warg*
Sunset is soooo much more beautiful when there is an enchanting elven profile in it! :-) 'Beautiful, mysterious, and dangerous' - one can hardly disagree with that, it only depends upon your loyalties, as Gandalf so wisely pointed out.
'A simple matter of declaring them forgiven', methinks that is a tad too optimistic. The phial and Lord Celeborn, that's Heavy Armour to back our friends up. Celeborn made a very impressive entrance, and I'm absolutely charmed that you included him. What roles are they going to play, huh? *bouncing up and down*
It might actually be a good thing that Aragorn admitted his fear to Legolas. (Spelt his name wrong in my last review, did I? Guess whose fault that is... ;-) It's better to drag it into the open - whatever's lurking in the dark can grow uncontrollably and assail you with so much more force (talk about nightmares!).
*giggles* I love that 'more cheer in a graveyard' quote - it's movie-verse, isn't it? I don't remember it from the books, but it's a good one.
That Fierthwain has a very loud mouth, bigger than his brain, actually. If he tries the patience of his king any further I suspect his cousin might have to peel him off the wall - I wouldn't even be sorry to see that...
So you encountered one of my distant cousins? *giggles* Be warned, a rodent's kin is huge and widespread - and I have told each and everyone of them to spy on you and your plot bunny. But there have been no reports so far, the lazy lot. Guess I will have to wait for your update, sigh... ;-)
Author's reply
LOL! *trying to imagine a beautiful, furry rodent drooling like a warg*
Oh, we loves our elfsies don't we precious? :-) A romantic sunset with a heavenly elf = a formula for swooning.
As for the roles Heavy Armor (sounds like a rock band) is going to play - hmmm... oh yeah, they will... oh wait! you're not supposed to know yet. so- shoo, tell your kin no peeping. :-)
'more cheer in a graveyard' - yes from TTT the movie. I love it! I thought it would be clear to all, so I didn't bother to add a note about it. I may go back and do it.
Somehow I don;t think we've seen the last of Fierthwain yet. Do you? ;-)
Thanks for the review, cuddly rodent. Happy New year!
Well, you probably remember what I thought of the first half of that chapter... *PURRING* I think I forgot to mention that I also like Hamille's and Gimli's anger and protectiveness. They really get along well, don't they? ;-) I really don't like the attitude of these men - I hope these prejudices are not going to cause problems. *suspicious look at author* If anything, this first part of the chapter is even more beautiful now. I LOVED the last sentence, how they are sitting there, shoulder to shoulder, and Eärendil rising above them... *blissful sigh*
I have alway been fascinated by the Paths of the Dead (bookverse), and I always wished Tolkien had not only told us about it in hindsight. I'm really happy you lead us there again! *rubs hands* And don't you dare change any plotlines and tell us about it afterwards! *g* I can't believe you used that "more cheer in a graveyard"-quote - I just watched TTT yesterday night! I think you could quite easily convince me that you're a mind-reader. LOL!
Aragorn is being "charming", hm? *giggle* I'm really glad he's in the company of all those elves - and one grumpy dwarf. *huggles poor dwarf* Aragorn better had a good response for this fool, otherwise I had a mind to borrow Gimli's axe and answer him myself... *grumbles* If they don't want the elves in their village, I'd graciously take them in... ;-)
*purring* Well, I think I can live with that answer... *happy sigh* Hm, Fierthwain could be trouble. *glowers*
*winces at blood-curdling wail* It seems the Dead have taken notice of Aragorn's presence. This was a WONDERFUL chapter, Legolass, and I'm looking forward to the next one and another meeting with the Dead. :)
A melted, happy, blissful, PURRING Wet Puddle :D
Author's reply
I can hear your purr all the way from two oceans away, Tinu. :-)
Change plotlines? You mean, as in not go to the Paths? No - that won't change. THey'll get there in the next two chapters.
Only time for a short response, Tinu - gotta get to work. Thank you for dropping in. Happy New Year!

grrrmphhgnihihiiiii - I love this incensed, insulted, grumpy, disgruntled, irate, irritated dwarf. Best of all is that his friends consider this his 'normal', usual state. And his embarrassment at having punched Legolass! I strongly suspect he will have to go the whole way back with Aragorn and Legolass - sword, bow and helm, if I remember the riddle correctly. Poor Gimli! And the tale that those men from the village relate is most intriguing. Their distrust of elves and 'elf magic' reminds me a lot of Eomer's attitude towards the Lady of the Golden Wood - but perhaps there is something more to it? I'm looking forward to finding out soon!
Btw: Europe is my natural habitat, it's 3.30 pm, and I'm supposed to be working (actually: let's make that 'I'm at work' - nice phrase, sounding hopeful but not too committing). It's a shame, but I have loads of work to do before Christmas, too! Our 21st century does tend to horribly encroach upon everything that is beautiful and really important. But you needn't worry at all: you and your story keep me (and everyone else, I'm sure) as spellbound as ever, no way that I would desert you both. This chapter was a wonderful Christmas present, thank you so much (HUG)! Have the best of all Christmasses (:and presents!) ever, and a blissful ride into the New Year!
Author's reply
I was 'at work' two days ago, with the open window behind me, when i heard a scuttling sound. I turned around to find - guess what? - yep, a bushy-tailed rodent running along the window sill. :-) I thought of you immediately, and I swore that if you reviewed this chapter, I would tell you about it. So here we are!
"Our 21st century does tend to horribly encroach upon everything that is beautiful and really important." Very well put, Rodent 'lady at work', and I agree, sigh... and sometimes I feel like ranting like our dwarven friend. Glad you like him that way. :-) Yes, you are right, the villagers' distrust of elves is very much like Eomer's attitude, and this will in fact be mentioned in the next chapter. ;-)
I don't celebrate Christmas, but I do respect the celebration of it (and feel the excitement too!) so - if you do observe it - have a GREAT, FUN-FILLED and BLESSED Christmas. Your loyalty to me and my story is your gift to me - thank you. *Hugs*
p.s. I'd intended to post the first part of Chap 11 by next week because of ... well, something I wrote there ;-) - but posting just the first part might be awkward, so it'll have to wait, I guess.

Mae govannen Legolass,
First & foremost, please don't apologise for the delay, I whole heartedly understand how quickly "real life" can take over. So as I tell my sons all the time, No More late nighters. Your fans will be with you no matter what-take care of yourself. Now on to the chapter review. Hooray the calvary has arrived. Lord Celeborn!! reminds me a little of when your a kid in trouble or lost and you finally see an adult, talk about relief. I bet that was some entrance (LOL) I'm sure Elladan is going to have a good time telling stories about their reactions when this is all said and done. I really enjoy how you give other characters from tolkiens world personalities and life, your gift for writing supporting characters is without equal.
Have a joyous holiday, take care of any "elf-owies in your life" and I keep you in my prayers,
Your fan,
Eliza
P.S. Whew I knew Gimili was going to be one ticked off dwarf when he woke up. Loved how he sulked because Leggy wasn't effected. (giggled my head off actually.)

Oh Eliza - this message from you went straight to my heart - thank you! I am actually pulling another late-nighter, and I guess it was worth it just reading what you wrote *like a warm touch to the heart* - but I shall go to bed right after this. :-)
Nice to know you liked Gimli's sulking and Celeborn's entrance. It was a long chapter, but worth writing.
THANK YOU for your loyal support. I love hearing from you, ESPECIALLY when you write in the middle of a (boring) Powerpoint presentation as you did some time ago, lol!

This was an enjoyable and gripping chapter.gimli was just hilarious and I loved the way you are making the summons increasingly urgent and your"legend".
I wish aragorn were planning to take a whole regiment with him but I hope at least the Elves will help, though I sense trouble ahead and not only from ghosts !
Wishing you a peaceful and joyous Christmas.Thank you for all the pleasure your wonderful stories give me.

*huggles Legolass* This is the most wonderful Christmas gift you could ever have given to your readers! *wraps story in gift-wrapping paper and puts it under Christmas tree* ;-)
*grin* I knew Gimli wouldn't be too happy when he wakes up! LOL! *huggles irate dwarf* Somehow he's sweet when he rants like that. (And Hamille's protectiveness towards Legolas is sweet, too! *glues Hamille to Middle-earth to stop him from following the sea-longing*)
Very interesting. Finally, some mysteries are solved. I do not think I would like to live in that village, though it is fascinating to read about it. *delighted shudder* (And it happens to be midnight in my part of the world... *decides to turn on more lights*) Hm, these poor people... ghosts. It is quite unfair that they rebelled against their king and Sauron and were the ones who were not redeemed. I can understand their anger now. I only wonder how they should be able to fullfill their oath to fight against Sauron, as there is no Sauron any longer?! What will be needed to redeem them, I wonder? *has unpleasant images of ghosts sacrificing Aragorn on an altar* Loyalty among ghosts - I think I like them. For the moment.
And I like Hamille. *g* And Gimli. Poor dwarf. *eg* Lord Celeborn! YAY! I feel much better already! That's nearly as good as Gandalf (and I can understand that he didn't want to come from Valinor for the occasion...*g*). *huggles Celeborn and Legolass and purrs* I LOVED this chapter! Hm... this is so interesting - I wonder what role Celeborn will have to play?! *fidgets in chair* Well, I'm really looking forward to the next chapter (patiently)! :)
A purring Wet Puddle :)
Author's reply
You're most welcome as usual, dearie. :-)
Now, what role does Celeborn have to play, huh? Huh? Huh? Come on... let's try to peek ... but wait! If we're both peeking - then's who's writing the story? :-0 Wait a minute.... I am! Oh okay - so YOU have to peek and I have to hide it. :-D
So now you understand how the Twice Forgotten feel - good! And how will they redeem themselves? Hmmmm... more peeking?
GUess you'll have to wait, Tinu. And I think you may have something to purr about in the next chapter... Does that entice you huh huh huh?
DOn;t know if you celebrate Christmas - but if you do, have a great one, and Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year to you and yours, Legolass.
Now, I'm so glad you were so kind to your many admirers when you revealed just who had accompanied Elladan! I loved how you described Celeborn and the complete awe he was afforded by everyone present. He certainly will be helpful, I'm sure.
Poor Gimli, he was so flustered when he found out just what the voices had made him do.His shame was evident but everybody loves him--and I knew that Aragorn would never hold anything against him. He's so lovable!
I'm not liking the looks the villagers are giving Legolas & Hamille.I wonder what stories they have heard about elves? Mmmmm, I'm sure that you will be working more on that aspect of the story.I'm glad Aragorn noticed their looks and they better not do anything to hurt the elves or they will have a very irate King on their hands!
Thanks again for this story and thanks for updating.I'm looking forward to the next chapter!
Have a wonderful 2006.

I had thought of leaving Celeborn out - but that wouldn't have been very charitable to readers now, would it? lol! So - I'm glad idenitfying him made you happy. Just wonder whether readers were expecting him *grin*
Yes poor Gimli was terribly embarassed was'n't he? :-) As for the elves - well, maybe nothing will happen to them besides getting dirty looks. ONe can always hope, right? ;-)

· Chapter 9: The Long Night
You have a minor error here as you say "Eowyn excused herself and left, accompanied by her husband." but Faramir features quite prominently in the rest of the chapter. Also I don't think they knew about Eru, only the Valar.
I'm so glad to see that Aragorn is not badly hurt and hope those small cuts are not something sinister! Thank Goodness his friends finally stay with him,as they should have done all along, especially as beds in old inns would usually hold about six easily !
The dead are truly chilling and I can sense some nice angsty adventure ahead.I love the way all of aragorn's friends care about him. POcessed Gimli was truly chilling !
This is most enjoyable and i eagerly await each new chapter.
Author's reply
Hi, Linda:
Lol! I was puzzled over what you meant about the error at first, wondering if you'd objected to the use of the phrase "her husband" as somehow diminishing the 'prominence' of Faramir - THEN realised what you meant, and that you must have missed the return of Faramir in the following paragraph; it reads: "...just as Faramir returned and closed the door quietly." (I thought it would be nice if Faramir could at least see his wife back to their room first - the gentlemany, husbandly thing to do.) That line was there, but I guess his return was so quiet it wasn't even 'heard' :-)
As for not knowing about Eru - is that so? Hmmm... does the Silmarillion say the elves didn't? Must check - thanks for raising the point.
SIX on a bed?? What a vision! lol! Well, as Faramir explained earlier: none of them could have known that it would get this bad, and it would have seemed mighty funny that the strong King of Gondor would need his friends in his bedroom. :-) Kinda hard for them to even suggest it. But now they know.
Thanks for dropping in. :-)

This was a very creepy chapter and I loved it! The voices were certainly insistent and adamant that Aragorn listen--but they couldn't fend off Legolas' urgent summons that Aragorn return.I loved that.
Oh, and 'posessed Gimli' must have been a hoot to write! It was very enjoyable to read and I can't wait to see how Gimli deals with the consequences of him wanting to Aragorn!
So, Aragorn may have to go through the PotD again? Well, he won't be going alone for there is no way that Legolas will not shadow his every move.I just love the fact that, in your brilliant stories, both Legolas and Aragorn are willing to endure much hardship for each other.
Can't wait for more!
Ali.
Author's reply
I could swear I posted a reply to this - didn;t check to see if it went through - sorry!
Yes, I wouldn't have written anyone else calling Aragorn back - after all, the man called the elf back in "For the Love..." gotta have the balance. :-) And you're right again re the PoD: no way is Legolas going to let Aragorn go without him; as I told another reviewer, the likelihood of the moon turning red, blue and white would be greater.
And yes it was fun writing the possessed Gimli - that's going to be one angry dwarf next chapter.
Thanks for the review. :-)

· Chapter 9: The Long Night
You made Aragorn's dream sequence so real that I felt like waking up from a nightmare myself - slowly, slowly... Only I have never been called out of one by an elf *sigh*. That was very touching, Legolas' spotting the cuts to Aragorn's feet, never caring about the cuts he recieves himself. It's all those little details that reveal so much.
Mhm. I did think that it was not right that Gimli could sleep through all that ruckus, undisturbed. There should be one irate dwarf later in the morning ... they might want to hide the axe :-) If Aragorn has to return to the Paths of the Dead, as it seems, I wonder who will accompany him? There is probably no way that Legolas might be stopped from going with him, but will Gimli come, too? He did say, after all, that he would not go back for any friendship - but it is sort of a personal issue now, and he would not like to be left behind. I'm very curious. And there is even more bad news to come, it seems ....
PS Re your last response: I sincerely hope you like the sound of bullfrogs, because that's what it sounds like when I start singing - especially since one of those seems to have settled permanently in my throat. But I can do the watching - everybody knows how fierce and ferocious creatures squirrels are ;-) Yeah, I will do that *puffing up chest, revealing round, furry white tummy*
Author's reply
Hiya Rodent :-)
Everyone is waiting to see that irate dwarf in the morning lol! But you're right - there will be. As for whether he will return to the PoD hmmmm... we will see. ;-) Re Legolas not going, however, I think the likelihood of the moon turning red, blue and white would be greater. I think he'd die of worry over his friend.
Let's see -- a busy-tailed squirrel that sounds like a bullfrog -- there ought to be a story out of that. And what's in that round tummy? Chestnuts?

Well met Legolass,
Didn't you "Yanks" just celebrate your thanksgiving holiday? I don't remember ghost stories as part of the holiday (LOL). Gimili is going to be one irate dwarf when he wakes up! I just can't figure out what is going to make him madder, that he missed all the action or that some thing had the audacity to possses him in the first place. I'm sure he will tell you (loudly) that it had to happen while he was asleep (I hope you are ready for some grumbling from him.) Once again it was enchanting to see the genuine love and concern that all the friends display. (Legolas not wanting Hamille to hurt Gimili & the hobbits insisting on staying with Aragorn) Now onto the other mysteries in the story....

Sweet, the conversation between Sam and Gimli. It is somehow funny to imagine Sam trying to convince Galadriel in a possible next dream that she should please visit Gimli instead... *g*
I see now where the dedication came from... *smiles* "Legolas sang from his heart, and his tone was laced with love, for he was singing for a cherished friend bowed with care." - This is beautiful... and sweet... *melts* Oh, Aragorn is really a lucky ranger - pardon, king! Hehe.
ROTFL!!! The beginning of the next section presents quite a contrast, lol! “Those elves will never savor the robust flavor of a good, hearty song straight from the stomach!”

Ooh males (that includes men, dwarfs, elves & the hobbit variety too)are such stubborn, pig headed creatures some times. The man KNOWS some thing is after him and he still refuses to stay with some one at all times. I tried to tell Aragorn (well- it was more like me screaming "wake up, wake up" at the monitor but let's forget that image ok) to "wake up" that use to work for me whenever I dreamed of monsters under the bed. Any thing that can shake our dear elf must be scary indeed!

So they are back in Pelargir, and Aragorn does not intend to ward 'them' off - he's literally inviting death, and that in the face of the Lady's warning. Stubborn ranger! He is so lucky to have Legolas watching over him. (Holding breath) I believe ... I can almost hear them singing ...

"Aragorn should never have been alone in the room after Sam's warning,he is far too stubborn." - that's what Legolas felt too, but it was hard to convince Aragorn that he wasn't being 'baby-sat'. Men! *rolling eyes*. But I'll tell him what you said. ;-)
Thank you very much for dropping in.

· Chapter 7: The Lady's Gift
Here's a very small rodent sadly biting his drooping tail. I certainly did not intend to make you want to mutilate your own story - it is perfect, exactly as it is. I thought you wrote the Phial in because you wanted it to be there and I think you still do (remembering the light falling on the features of Legolas, so do I - desperately). I rather suspect that if Tolkien had been able to continue his own tale, he would have changed that in a flash. Remember Gandalf's reappearance after his 'death' in Moria? Elrond's elaborate explanation why the Ring would not be safe with Bombadil! I think the only way you might become untrue to his tale would be if you changed your style a single bit. (Or, perhaps, if you made Legolas become hopelessly drunk and depraved ;-) So, please, please, don't change a single word, pretty please - need I repeat that it is perfect just as it is? *disappearing into a big pile of leaves*
Author's reply
I just got home and fired up the pc - just in time to see a bushy tail disappearing into the pile of leaves! Come out, come out *tugging gently at the tail* :-)
Please don't feel bad about bringing up the Glass, rodent - I'm grateful that you pointed it out to me; I was just annoyed at myself for having missed that. But I guess it happened for a reason. The story might not have changed drastically without the Phial, but I would have had to think of something else - and, yes, the chapter would have been missing 'that' scene which I loved writing, and that you love and other readers appreciate as well. I hadn't even planned to write it; the image just came and would not leave me. And now that it's there, I can't bear to remove it - I'd feel like I was killing something with life; I pour much of myself into creating certain scenes. *cuckoo cuckoo* So - I'll leave the Phial in and point out the 'slight' (as you call it) AU-ness to readers.
Besides, how could I ignore such an impassioned plea from my favourite rodent? :-) The story is by no means perfect, mellon nin, but you're so sweet - bushy tail and all - to say so, lol. Okay - the tale remains the way it is. :-) Now, can we see that tail again?
