Oooh what a lousy piece of mud. How dare he! Warg-droppings for brains, ha! A brick wall would look smart next to him. It's a good thing there is a witness (small and female, perhaps?) and that Lord Celeborn and the others will arrive soon. Boy, he'll be in trouble then. And I hope that when Legolas has called back Aragorn (optimistically, I make that when, not if!!), they'll both deal with whatever's left of him. I only hope it won't be too late, your description of how Aragorn lost all his memories was very frightening.
That's right, I'm still stacking up my winter supply - and the thought of hibernating is incredibly appealing right now! I'll pin a note on my tree: "On hibernation - see you all next spring" and disappear into my warm nest, only checking for an update each morning :-P
Hugs, your rodent
Author's reply
"A brick wall would look smart next to him." -- oh, you kill me with your delightful expressions and remarks, Rodent! :-D
But yes, now Aragorn is lost - and it's beginning to look like an 'if' rather than a 'when' he is called back, is it not? Re the one eye-witness, I won't say anything for now, of course, except that you're very sharp, my furry friend. ;-)
Mmm... hibernation sounds wonderful. Share your nest with me? THen I can wake up each morning just to write. :-D

Well, if Fierthwain wants the wrath of the elves to descend upon the villagers, and himself, then he's going the right way about it! What a pompous creature--I hope, when Legolas gets the chance, that Fierthwain is given a serious whuppin'!
So, who is watching Legolas & Elrohir being taken away? That was a surprise, Legolass, to read that.I wonder who it could be?
I hope Celeborn & Elladan arrive soon and know of a way to revive Aragorn.Of course, they will need to find Legolas & Elrohir--and Galadriel's vial first.
Great chapter, Legolass.I can't wait for the next one.
Take care.
Ali.
Author's reply
If Thranduil knew about this, Fierthwain's head would be on a platter faster than he could say "please don't whup me!" But maybe someone else will reach him first. ;-)
You're right, Celeborn & Elladan need to find Galadriel's Phial. And you'll find out who watched Legolas and Elrohir being taken away, in the next chapter, Ali. Think you can wait till then? ;-)

Yay! Aragorn will be saved!!!!
Author's reply
Vampfan, you have the most ambitious plans, lol! But I'm afraid I don't do cross-overs, so Terminator 2 and weapons is out. But I guess you can do the saving. :-) Let's see if you can do that by next chapter!

Please don't say anything about late replys - I'm so terribly late in reviewing, even so terribly more so than usual (bangs head on keyboard). RL is pinning me down right now, too.
So, there are two old ones - I had not thought of that AT ALL!! giggles stupid rodent... makes perfect sense, but I had to read it over twice :-)
I'm still in a hurry, so I will just say that I loved this chapter (as always) - those moments when Legolas could just about reach Aragorn were very moving. I could so feel the frustration when Legolas sensed Aragorn but could not get through the door. You could suggest to Legolas that he might try using Fierthwain's head as a battering ram - he is just about thickheaded enough that it might work... might do him some good, too, grmmf.
Hugs, your rodent
Author's reply
Now you see her bushy tail, now you don't. That's Red Squirrel - zipping in and out for a quick visit! Lol!
Oh, Rodent - I can imagine how pressed for time you must feel. I wish this 'other life' would leave us LOTR fanfic writers and readers in peace for a while, sigh.... Still, I'm glad I could hear from you, or I'd miss you too much. :-)
Maybe WE could use Fierthwain's head to ram down those obstacles called Work and Studies. And speaking of hard heads - well, Fierthwain's rock-like-stupidness isn't going to let up just yet, as you'll see in the next chapter.
See you then, my dear rodent. Thank you for dropping in despite your desperate scramble for (chest?)nuts and other good stuff. I know, I know, winter's coming and you gotta stack up your supply! :-D

Well, everyone is in despair and there seems no hope for Aragorn--but his friends will not give up, especially Legolas, who seems very tired but determind. They all have to wait for Celeborn and Elladan, but time is running out for all of them.
There was a little comfort for Aragorn when Legolas' soothing song reached him but the darkness was held at bay for only a moment--that was so sad! I hope that Aragorn holds onto the fact that his family will never let the darkness take him without a fight.I'm looking forward to the battle for Aragorn's very spirit!
No typos to report, Legolass. You're stories flow so easily and I find myself leaning forward, literally on the edge of my seat, whenever I read one of your cliffy's :D
BTW, I'm reading this on my brand new, shiney computer after my old one died from a lightening strike.I had no internet connection for three days. Now, that is like living in a dark hole, believe me ;D
Update when you can, Legolass.I'll be waiting, as always.

Congratulations on your new computer, Ali! Don't we just love shiny new things. :-) Hope you have hours and hours and hours of fun on it.
But Aragorn is in dire need of shiny things now, poor man. I think he's even forgotten that he has a family... that fate is horrible. But isn't it ironic of me to say that, since I sent him there... :-p

That is just what Legolas and Elrohir need right now, idiots with sharp, pointy weapons. I wonder if Fiorthwain and company would mind if I took their bow and arrows for a while. I would like to get a little imformation out of Lord Celeborn. Who by the way needs to get a better map, he seems to have gone to the wrong place. Poor Estel, no light, no hope, a body that is not with him. Shhh, slip him a couple of candles, whan no one is looking.
Author's reply
"idiots with sharp, pointy weapons." -- that just about sums them up, those fools. :-)
But go easy on Celeborn - he didn't go to the wrong place - he went back to the City thinking Aragorn would be there, and besides, the White City IS on the way to the Paths from where he was riding. Poor elf lord - getting blamed for where the author sent him, lol!

Sigh… poor Aragorn. Poor Legolas. Poor Arwen. And poor Faramir! I wonder what would be worse, to return to the Paths of the Dead with a dying king in a frantic search of some clue or help that you don’t know if it exists at all, or to stay back in the city to keep up hope for everyone else, not knowing what’s going on, waiting for news. What a horrible situation! I hope that they will meet up with Lord Celeborn soon, and that he can offer, if not comfort, maybe at least some guidance. Speaking of which, it seems the implication here is that the „Old One“ is Lord Celeborn. M-hmm. Somehow I am not quite ready to accept that. Well, Celeborn is certainly old, although I would not care to say so to his handsome face, or he might give me the look that my prof reserves for dim-witted students, and I would shrivel up to the size of a small raisin. He has lived countless years, and yet ‘old’ does not seem to fit. ‘Ancient’, perhaps – it has more to do with venerable and wise instead of decrepit and aged. But the Forgotten People might call him so, because they don’t know any better? Perhaps. But when the possessed Gimli spoke of the “Old One”, Lord Celeborn was on his way to meet Aragorn because his Lady gave him a warning. He knew nothing yet about the curse on the door, and when he stood there, he could not read it – at first. He certainly holds the clue now, because he found it in Orthanc, but to know that, the Forgotten People would have had to be able to look well into the future. So I’m still curious. And I’m still asking, who the heck IS the Old One?
One very curious rodent
Author's reply
Hiiiiiiii, Rodent!
(One long sigh for the time it has taken to not only finish the coming chapter but also to write you this INCREDIBLY late reply).
I feel like Legolas and Elrohir and Celeborn - racing against time to get something done - and as I am writing, I feel their agony. Aarrgh!
As for your questions re the Old One - I had to smile in delight when I read them because they're great, and because you picked up on a couple of points that are addressed in an argument Elrohir makes in the next chapter, so I won't talk about them here. But I will tell you that much earlier on, I did consider letting the Dead refer to Celeborn as the Ancient One because of the same reasoning you used - but I thought that the Dead would not have known just how 'ancient' Celeborn was - they would have known him as an immortal and therefore older than they are, but the elf lord would have, I imagine, looked ageless and still very much the fair being he is - not old enough to be 'ancient'. So... if there were going to be two Old Ones: Mathuil and Celeborn, Legolas would have to make a mistake about the first Old One, who Celeborn wasn't, in order for him to see the second Old One as Celeborn, who Celeborn is. Of those at Shelob's lair, only he and Tobeas had been at both Pelargir and the village, so I chose him. It could have just been a discussion between the two elves without the mistake, but I thought Elrohir would have had to mull over it first, since he had nothing but second-hand accounts to rely on.
Having said all that, however, perhaps it was a dumb way of doing it. *grin* If it doesn't seem to make sense, please consider it a lapse in sanity on my part :-p
oh, Rodent - I am exhausted... still much work to do, but I'm glad I have the next chapter done and up. Will watch a re-run of The Nanny for a while now.
Thank you for your support each chapter, mellon nin. :-)

Well If Arwen and his son can not wake up Aragorn, I guess an alarm clock or bugle are not going to work either. Have they tryed shouting "orc", or "moose tracks ice cream" into his ear. Darn, hands bowl of ice cream to Legolas (poor elf can use it), picks up rooster, and heads out the door.
I am off to talk to Gilmi, perhaps he can tell me what Elladan said, stupid wind got in the way of my hearing.

Of all the low down, dirty-double crossing #$%&$$, lousy things. No wonder they were cursed. Listen, Legolass. I've got some West Indian/Cajun Aunts, I always thought they were a little nutty but they're good for a voodoo curse or two. Heck, we could give them a call and probably get another curse back on the spirits before the next chapter.
Boy, that was a great chapter. I'll say it again you write some great villians (I always like the villians in a story or a movie, my husband thinks I need professional help with this issue). I could feel Shelob and her anger.
Can elves die of heart failure? I know they can die from a broken heart but I swear Legolas is going to have a heart attack (if he doesn't I know I'm close). next chapter send me an email and tell me to get some meds ready! LOL
Author's reply
So, my friend, you have a thing for villains huh? Hmmm, I'm thinking that one day I may create a diabolically charming, handsome, and delightfully evil bad guy just for you! :-D You may end up rooting for him instead of our Elf and Ranger, speaking of whom - yes, I think Legolas is as close to a heart attack as he can get with Aragorn lying as good as lifeless before him, and not knowing what's going on. I'm half-contemplating calling on your aunts for help, but you know, Black Speech clashing with Cajun voodoo.... sssss... *that's me sucking in a breath*... the consequences may be out of this world and out of this plot. And THEN what is this writer going to do? :-0

Why, thanks for the reminder (settling down with a large pot of freshly-brewed, extra-strong coffee). Yikes! What a vicious fight, with those admirable stunts from our favourite elf (grin), that was worth at least three heart-attacks and several fits of hysterical outbreak (and the coffee is already gone - how is that possible?!).
So that is the curse and the threat (shudder), and the shadow host is even sorry - well THEY SHOULD BE! How could they leave us in such a fix (Aragorn and Legolas, I mean, of course), and not even give a warning. Egoistic, selfish, worthless breed of orc-spit. (That reminds me, last night I wondered if ten years into the reign of Aragorn, there were still orcs left in Middle-Earth - but I think, you just answered this question for me.)
But who IS the "old one"? Older than Elrohir or the Elves in general? He was mentioned before... Gimli! He mentioned him before... "listen to the old one - beyond the gate"?. There was an old man sitting before the entrance to the paths of the dead, but he died when he had uttered the prophecy about Aragorn. Or had he? AAARGH! Will I find out or will I have to wait for your update? Perhaps I could mess a little with your working schedule, lol!
