Linda Hoyland · 24 April 2009 · Chapter 84: Worthwhile

A lovely moment. I hope Frodo will think of Elanor and all the other babies that thrived thanks to his sacrifice.

Author's reply

I, too, hope such thoughts serve to reassure him. Certainly things would not be anywhere as good in the Shire for them had he not done what he did! Thanks, Linda.

Inzilbeth · 24 April 2009 · Chapter 83: Leaving the Flock

Ah a most touching story, Larner, thank you so much. How hard it must have been, both for Sam to let go, and for Frodo to make the decision to finally leave his beloved Shire. The little birds were a perfect addition. I'm sure the little fellow would be most welcome in Aman.

Author's reply

You are welcome. It was wonderful to find someone with whom I share a good deal, apparently, as well as the love of these stories and for Aragorn. And I do hope there are more goldcrests in Aman! Thank you so, and hope your birthday was as happy as mine!

Andrea · 24 April 2009 · Chapter 84: Worthwhile

“That he is. But, then, I suspect that for him she’s the sign he did it all proper, and that for tonight, at least, he’s glad he did what he did. Makes it all worthwhile for him.” Dear Sam! And dear Larner of course, that was wonderfully said! I would have liked to see Frodo holding his own children. Sadly, that was not meant to be. But if I imagined a Middle-Earth ruled by Sauron and the formerly free folks enslaved, I would not have liked my children to grow up in such a world! I've no idea if this if-clause uses the correct tenses. But I'm sure you know what I mean ;-)

Author's reply

Am so glad you think it was properly said, Andrea. No, he didn't father children of his own, but look at how many of us feel he is a member of our own kin! And your sentiment toward Sauron is spot on--and properly stated! Heh!

Agape4Gondor · 23 April 2009 · Chapter 84: Worthwhile

Good old Sam to realize and understand what all of it was for... and a beautiful scene, Frodo and Elanor....

Author's reply

Oh, I so agree, Agape. Thank you!

Dreamflower · 23 April 2009 · Chapter 84: Worthwhile

Oh, this is so sweet! I love that he automatically thought of when he took care of Merry as a lad.

Author's reply

I would think that those memories would have returned to him--a time when he could get unconditional love from his little cousin. And that he'd end up being confused, then relaxing as he sang to Elanor just feels right to me!

Antane · 23 April 2009 · Chapter 84: Worthwhile

Most definitely worthwhile and I love the peace and joy he had holding his niece. Though I would change the 'it' in rocking the baby to 'she' because our Frodo is not in love with an it! :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

The "it" isn't Elanor--it's what he accomplished in making it all the way to and through Mordor to the Sammath Naur--and that he would feel was worth it to hold this beautiful child, I'd think. Thanks so much, Antane.

harrowcat · 23 April 2009 · Chapter 84: Worthwhile

What a lovely picture you paint at the end but so bitter-sweet too. BTW I am re-reading the King's Commission and had to explain to a waiter at the Bird Sanctuary Cafe what LOTR fanfiction was! At least he knew LOTR.

Author's reply

Perhaps bitter-sweet, but the more pleasurable nonetheless because one can find the sweetness in it. I'm so honored that people enjoy rereading The King's Commission--that is most delightful and reassuring to hear.

Lindelea · 23 April 2009 · Chapter 84: Worthwhile

Oh, so tender and sweet. I found I had tears in my eyes at the end. It was lovely to see echoes of Frodo's relationship with Merry, and the peace that Elanor brought to his troubled heart.

Author's reply

I am so honored to know it moved you, Lindelea. It is a joy to be able to post this at last!

Antane · 22 April 2009 · Chapter 83: Leaving the Flock

Oh, they really do enrich the earth! And the heart and soul. Love it. Love this bittersweet conversation and promise and the smile, of course, both of them. And the bird that followed Frodo. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Yes, they do enrich the earth. And just the right things to like, too! Thank you so, Antane.

Andrea · 21 April 2009 · Chapter 83: Leaving the Flock

How beautiful! I especially liked the last paragraph about the single goldcrest that followed Frodo to the Undying Lands. It's as if the small bird wanted to confirm Frodo's comparison and to assure him and the others that he did the right thing.

Author's reply

Thank you so, Andrea. I, too, like the thought of one of the birds, perhaps the very one that looked Frodo in the eye through the dining room window, felt compelled to see to it that Frodo found his way to his new nesting place.

Linda Hoyland · 20 April 2009 · Chapter 83: Leaving the Flock

I loved the idea of the goldfinches following Frodo.

Author's reply

Am so glad you do, Linda--a bit of home for him, finding the one goldcrest did accompany him to Elvenhome. A bit of a coincidence you accidently typing goldfinches, as the Pacific goldfinch is the state bird for Washington, and they are often seen about my property. They are a beautiful little bird. Although I see hummingbirds even more commonly here, which I understand are about the same size as your goldcrests. We also have little partridges that nest on the property--I am looking forward to seeing how many come to take dustbaths in the driveway once the summer is fully set in! This is a birdwatcher's paradise. I just hope that the one woodpecker doesn't try tapping itself nuts on the house siding again this year, trying to attract a mate! And we appear to have a pair of snowy owls as well as the bald eagles who fly over the property once or twice a week. I LOVE it here!

Ainu-Yavanna · 20 April 2009 · Chapter 83: Leaving the Flock

A heart warming story, sad but full of hope.

Author's reply

Thank you so very much, Ainu-Yavanna. Am glad it struck you this way, just as I'd hoped it would!

cookiefleck · 20 April 2009 · Chapter 83: Leaving the Flock

This was very sweet, Larner!

Author's reply

Thank you so very much, Cookiefleck!

Linda Hoyland · 13 April 2009 · Chapter 82: Hearts Healed

A beautiful bitter sweet tale which I found very moving.

Author's reply

Oh, thank you so, Linda! It's always an honor when I realize my writing has moved someone.

Linda Hoyland · 13 April 2009 · Chapter 81: Honor Avenged

Naughty Frodo! Aragorn did not know the mushrooms were spoken for.Just as well the Hobbits did not cripple their guide! A delightful story.

Author's reply

Now and then Frodo deserves to be naughty! Heh! Glad it gave you a giggle!

Socrates399 · 13 April 2009 · Chapter 82: Hearts Healed

I love that you ended with the phrase "make good on his boast." It brings to (my) mind the heroic boasts of Beowulf and of Byrthnoth's men--even of Sam himself("If you don't come back, then I won't, that's certain"). But it is so homely and hobbit-like, too! :-)

Author's reply

Oh, yes--the northern peoples did take their boasts seriously! Thank you so very much, Socrates!

Antane · 13 April 2009 · Chapter 82: Hearts Healed

How nice to see him dancing again! And Sam to be there to see it too! A most joyful day for them both. I love the effect they have on each other. :) And they have yet the greatest journey and adventure before them and they will take it together just as they did the Quest. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

Well, you know how much I enjoy thinking of Frodo dancing, after all. Yes, a day of reassurance for both of them. And one more journey before the two of them, one they will take with anticipation.

Dreamflower · 12 April 2009 · Chapter 82: Hearts Healed

What a lovely Easter treat! So nice to see Frodo happy and healed, and Sam there to see him. Thank you, dear!

Author's reply

Am so glad this pleased so many, Dreamflower. And thank you!

harrowcat · 12 April 2009 · Chapter 81: Honor Avenged

Vengence is mine saith Frodo! *grin*. Poor Strider but, then, he could have asked before helping himself.

Author's reply

Oh, indeed, Harrowcat. Yes, poor Strider, but you're right--he OUGHT to have asked!

Andrea · 12 April 2009 · Chapter 82: Hearts Healed

You have granted him the last healing he needed....” That's very true! Only with Sam's arrival Frodo's healing could be completed. And only by seeing this, Sam could be healed, too. I'd say give them more time to dance together in joy, but when they take one step further, *time* won't exist any more and their dance will last for all eternity! Happy Easter to you!

Author's reply

Oh, how very true, Andrea. Each is the final healing for the other, and indeed they shall soon enough join the Lord of the Dance! Thank you so!

Kitty · 12 April 2009 · Chapter 82: Hearts Healed

Lovely, Larner! Oh, I do understand so well how Sam must have felt, seeing his beloved Master dancing again! It's a joy we all share, I suspect. Happy Easter!

Author's reply

Thank you so very much, Kitty. And knowing Frodo was healed helps us accept we, too, will know healing in our own time. Hope your Easter was joyful!

harrowcat · 12 April 2009 · Chapter 82: Hearts Healed

A lovely story for Easter Day. Both finding the healing they need to be ready to go on in each other. A time to dance indeed. Happy Easter Day & Season Larner.

Author's reply

No question--indeed a time to dance and rejoice. Thank you so, Harrowcat, and hope your visit with your parents is more peaceful than the last one was! Easter joy to you and yours.

Fiondil · 12 April 2009 · Chapter 82: Hearts Healed

Lovely ficlet for Easter, Larner. Thanks for sharing. May we all find our joy, here or in the hereafter.

Author's reply

Amen--be it so! And a joyful Easter season to you and yours, Arthur.

6336 · 12 April 2009 · Chapter 82: Hearts Healed

Ah, to see Frodo dancing in joy again, well worth the wait! A little bittersweet perhaps, but the Valar and his friends had wanted to see Frodo healed before he went on. More please, Happy Easter, Lynda

Author's reply

Yes, well, well worth the wait! And Frodo did find his healing and his joy again before returning his Light and Song to the Source of all such gifts! Thank you so!

shirebound · 12 April 2009 · Chapter 82: Hearts Healed

he was able to find his joy again They both were; true healing indeed. A lovely story, Larner.

Author's reply

Thank you so, Shirebound! Joy to you today!
