Celeritas · 18 January 2010 · Chapter 999999: Author's Notes
Though I've followed the development of your theories through your fiction, I really do appreciate that you've laid it out "factually" (as it were) here, and I imagine it'll be helpful to link these A/N's to new readers. It really is a fascinating take on just a few lines. Congratulations on getting such a huge opus of short fiction! I remember the first time you posted one of these things, with the disclaimer "something I don't do very often," so I find it highly amusing that you've finally "maxed out" this particular collection. You deserve a hearty pat on the back, if not some praising with great praise!
Author's reply
I wrote what I did mostly for new readers, and particularly one on FF.n who apparently isn't a member and thus I have no other means of answering her questions. I know I'm not the first to break off at some point to start new collections of short fictions--Dreamflower has done so, too. But I felt that at a hundred chapters this was getting unwieldy, so it was time to start over. And my first story will be in honor of the one whose own writing got mine started! And it's an honor to honor her, you see! Thanks so very much, Celeritas.
Linda Hoyland · 17 January 2010 · Chapter 99: Marred Gifts
I'm glad Pippin was able to realise his potential with help from Frodo
Author's reply
Indeed, Linda! Oh, yes--he profited well enough by the time Frodo spent with him!
Andrea · 17 January 2010 · Chapter 100: Shall I Sing?
Very well done, Larner! The Gondorian minstrels would be proud of you (and Sam). And they would be jealous, because this song gives much inside information they would have loved to know. P.S.: Happy anniversary! For this is #100 in "Moments in Time".
Author's reply
Yes, this shall become Old 100 now! And indeed there is inside information here. This ends this collection, and in its way shall start the next. And may these not be forgotten while folk turn onto the new stories!
harrowcat · 17 January 2010 · Chapter 100: Shall I Sing?
This is so well done Larner. Is it really six weeks between Rivendell and Moria? How clever of the Prof, and you.
Author's reply
I may have taken liberties with the timeline somewhat--I counted on Sam and Pippin remembering Gandalf saying they must hold to the southern path for forty days before they'd come to where they'd turn, and that this number would be used by Sam in his poem--makes a nice, round number, doesn't it? And reminiscent of other forty days spent in the wilderness....
Sir_Merry · 16 January 2010 · Chapter 100: Shall I Sing?
Wow! That was beautiful. Wonderfully written! I loved it!
Author's reply
Am glad you do! Thank you so!
Antane · 15 January 2010 · Chapter 99: Marred Gifts
Ah, to be taught by Frodo! Lucky Pippin. :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Indeed so, Antane! Indeed so!
Kitty · 10 January 2010 · Chapter 99: Marred Gifts
*lol* That letter was priceless! That's a bit extreme, even for Pippin! And the 'help' he put into the gifts left me giggling. Poor Beri and Merry! But I can see where the problem lies. Yay for Frodo – though so much younger than the other adults, he was the only one to understand and to have a solution. Who knows how things would have gone for Pippin if not for Frodo!
Author's reply
I know some of the letter my students have written have left me giggling and scratching my head at the same time. It was rather fun trying to imagine how Pippin's letter might have gone. And Frodo does understand, and has figured out what to do to get poor Pippin back on track. So glad you enjoyed this one, Kitty!
Kitty · 10 January 2010 · Chapter 98: A Yule Communion
Great idea to have Frodo and Sam discover that this snowball incident was real – for both of them! This way of communicating through the trees was such a lovely idea; I always enjoy it when the friends can sense each other this way. This time I was so glad for Aragorn and Arwen that they could sense Elrond and Celebrían, and particularly that Arwen now knows for sure that her mother is healed and happy again. Lovely, Larner!
Author's reply
I would think that at this time in her life, reminded of her husband's mortality by the realization his contemporaries are dying around him or are drifting away, I'd think she'd appreciate knowing her mother, at least, is alive and thriving alongside Elrond and others she's loved. Thank you so very much, Kitty! It means so much to me!
Linda Hoyland · 10 January 2010 · Chapter 99: Marred Gifts
I'm sure frodo was a great teacher.
Author's reply
I'm certain he truly was, Linda. Thanks so!
Linda Hoyland · 10 January 2010 · Chapter 98: A Yule Communion
This moved me deeply,it was just lovely!
Author's reply
I am so glad it did, Linda. Thank you so!
Andrea · 9 January 2010 · Chapter 99: Marred Gifts
I will answer only the question asked had become I will not question the one who has no answers by the time Pippin had finished his writing LOL!!! I enjoyed this little story a great deal! And I'm glad that Pippin found such a talented teacher - and a new friend in Berilac. Hildifons and Frodo offered their pupils something very special that nowadays a teacher seldom has: time. I wonder how many talented children have failed at school due to a far too tight time schedule. I won't blame the teachers in general because they suffer as much as the children do.
Author's reply
As one who taught for over thirty years, yes, we don't have enough time--or too often support--to always give our children what we need to give them to succeed fully. I've seen bright children called dull because their learning disabilities are mistaken for stupidity, and children who once loved school come to loathe it because their needs are not met. It hurts. And at least there were to special teachers within the Shire who helped two exceptional individuals shine! Thank you so!
harrowcat · 8 January 2010 · Chapter 99: Marred Gifts
Poor Pippin and, consequently, poor everyone else. Well done Frodo. It really takes one to know one.
Author's reply
Oh, yes--it is hard when children don't get the specific training they need. And Frodo is able to learn from watching--and listening--to others describing their own experiences, and can recognize what he's heard of in others. I'm just so glad that Bilbo was his primary teacher! Thanks so, Liz.
Antane · 6 January 2010 · Chapter 98: A Yule Communion
How wonderful that they could all be gathered together from so very away, yet near at the next heartbeat and thought. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
I so agree, Antane. Thank you so!
Andrea · 4 January 2010 · Chapter 98: A Yule Communion
Beautiful, Larner! I especially liked the reference to the snowball-story. It's always wonderful to imagine that they were able to communicate with each other through the trees. Happy New Year!
Author's reply
I am so glad whenever I can find ways to tie one story to another. Thank you so very much! And I do hope that the Valar allowed this kind of reassurance.
Dreamflower · 2 January 2010 · Chapter 98: A Yule Communion
Awwww...this is just so sweet and dear! I love them all gathering about the trees to let one another know how they're doing.
Author's reply
Am so glad you find it so, Dreamflower. If they can't tell the thoughts exactly, at least they know one another are there and happy--and that's what's important after all. And I do believe that Arwen needed that reassurance!
Erulisse · 2 January 2010 · Chapter 98: A Yule Communion
What a lovely Yule gift. I loved this, and having Arwen and Celebrian able to feel one another over the leagues and bring peace to each other was absolutely marvelous. It brought tears to my eyes, wishing that I had that ability to sense my own Nana one more time. - Erulisse
Author's reply
Having lost my own mother some years ago, I do understand just what you mean. And knowing that my writing has moved others emotionally means a good deal to me. Thank you!
utfrog · 2 January 2010 · Chapter 98: A Yule Communion
Beautiful - just beautiful. I love the way you worked in the earlier Yule story about the snowballs. Thanks for letting Arwen have some special peace from her mother. Happy New Year to all.
Author's reply
Oh, thank you so much, Utfrog! I love tying tales together. And I do believe that this would be something that would mean a great deal to Arwen! And may the new year be kind to you and yours.
shirebound · 2 January 2010 · Chapter 98: A Yule Communion
How lovely. It's wonderful to imagine that they were all gifted with a Tree to help them commune with one another.
Author's reply
I know. I do believe that some reassurance was allowed via this means--we need it from time to time, after all!
curiouswombat · 2 January 2010 · Chapter 98: A Yule Communion
Thank you, again, for this lovely story - what a wonderful idea, and what a lovely connection to The First Snowfall of the Season.
Author's reply
You are so welcome. And it's always fun to tie my stories together somehow.... Thanks so very much for giving me the reason to write it.
Rhyselle · 2 January 2010 · Chapter 98: A Yule Communion
Oh, so very perfectly wonderful! Earendil brought Elrond and Celebrian to Tol Eressea just in time, didn't he? :) That was such a wonderful reunion! I'm so glad to have gotten to read this today. It made me smile and weep and laugh and cheer. What a lovely New Year gift to your readers!
Author's reply
Thank you so very much for the feedback, Rhyselle. It means so very much! And may 2010 be kind to us all.

How sweet! But since Primula is a practical hobbitess she has always a back-up plan ;-)
Author's reply
Oh, yes--one had best usually have back-up plans when one has children, or so I found out when mine were growing up!
