This chapter is quite the funniest thing I have read in a very long time!

KathyG · 2 April 2015 · Chapter 9: Turnabout is Fair Play, by Anso the Hobbit

Poor Merry! I've never had a migraine headache, I'm thankful to say, but I'm told they are horrible to endure. Thank goodness Pippin was there to keep an eye on him! Frodo must have gotten pretty concerned himself when he learned what was going on. Pippin did a good job of telling the story of that previous day. BTW, is the flashback sequence of this chapter set on the day that Frodo first gets up, or on the day of the Council? I'm kind of having a hard time determining just when the events of that flashback take place in Rivdendell. I'm assuming that Merry is well enough to attend the feast if it's set on the day that Frodo first awakens, or else well enough to talk over things with the other hobbits later in the day, if it's on the day of the Council. (If I'm wrong on both counts, by all means, enlighten me! =))

I love the way in which you have wrapped up this round robin! Something tells me this is not the last tale that Pippin will be told before they return to the Shire. =)

Author's reply

Thank you! My hobbits love storytelling. (And so, for that matter, do I.)

Eruherdiriel · 21 January 2015 · Chapter 14: On the Role of the Yule Dwarf, by Larner

Ha! I enjoyed this story as much as Pippin did. ~Eruherdiriel

Author's reply

Larner has a wonderful gift for spinning a tale, indeed. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a good word.

UTfrog · 21 January 2015 · Chapter 14: On the Role of the Yule Dwarf, by Larner

Beautiful take on the story. Best part is Aragorn splitting his pants. Thanks

Author's reply

I know, I laughed out loud at that juncture (had been chuckling up to that point). Larner is a wonderful storyteller. Thanks!

Tari · 20 January 2015 · Chapter 14: On the Role of the Yule Dwarf, by Larner

A Yule dwarf? LOL I'd love to see Aragorn decked out as one.

Author's reply

I know, can you imagine? I love that it was fated, from the moment he came to the village, because of his height! Larner spins a great tale. Thanks!

Lindelea, thank you for posting this on your birthday! I hope you're having a nice day. This is a delightful story to tell Pippin, and a wonderful ending to this series. Picturing the "Yule Dwarf" has me grinning.

Author's reply

You're welcome! I did have a nice day, at that, though it was very busy with mundane matters, and no cake this year! (Nobody had time to make one, not even myself.) But my beloved took me out to lunch, and that was a comedy of errors, and special in itself. I was so glad to have this delightful tale from Larner to post on my birthday. I was halfway through writing a mathom (and I'm still halfway through, having been thoroughly derailed these past weeks), and despaired of finishing, and then I remembered she'd sent me this gem during the holidays, when it was supposed to be posted (being a holiday tale and all that), except that I got busy... Anyhow, I'm sorry to have the Tale come to an end, but have enjoyed revisiting all the chapters when I returned to add this one. Thanks for being the first to contribute, and set things going so nicely.

Larner · 12 December 2014 · Chapter 13: Late Knight Snack, by Dreamflower

Oh, how wonderful! And if you can think of someone else who needs to tell poor Pippin a tale, I'd be willing to do one!

Author's reply

Thank you for your wonderful contribution! Wraps things up very nicely indeed.

KathyG · 10 December 2014 · Chapter 13: Late Knight Snack, by Dreamflower

Yaayyy!! "Latw Knight Snack" has finally been posted in this story!

Author's reply

Thank you for bringing it to our attention! (Lin)

This is such a delightful story. I always love it when one of the Big Folk is gentle, informal, and banter-y with the hobbits. *beams*

Author's reply

From Dreamflower: I'm glad you enjoyed it, too. This was such a fun project to take part in!

harrowcat · 12 September 2006 · Chapter 12: A Narrow Escape, by Jay of Lasgalen

“Mmmm, chicken soup! I like that!” Pippin licked his lips. “But my favourite’s mushroom. That reminds me, I’m hungry. Is it time for elevenses yet?” Elladan laughed. “Pippin, you only recently finished breakfast! You cannot possibly be hungry again!” Pippin looked at him reproachfully. “Second breakfast was nearly an hour ago,” he explained simply. “He is a hobbit,” Elrohir reminded his brother. “You remember what Bilbo is like!” Elladan nodded. “I think, Pippin, that you and Barra would have got on famously together!” “She sounds like a queen among foresters’ wives!” Pippin declared. “I should like to meet her! Now, tell me what happened the next day. And don’t forget to describe the food.” Perfectly typical Pippin!! *g* Really glad to see this.

Author's reply

Belated thanks for your stopping by and leaving a good word!

Bodkin · 9 September 2006 · Chapter 12: A Narrow Escape, by Jay of Lasgalen

How could Pippin not be interested in the twins' performance? They tease each other rather like Pippin and Merry! I love the asides - they really add to the story! And ... He frowned. “It’s very confusing. Especially when you keep calling each other El all the time! I think you do it on purpose.” He has a point, you know! I love the way he's more interested in the food Elladan had to eat than his injuries. Although he's right about that boy. Hal deserves a hard time! At least until he gets a bit more sense.

Author's reply

Oh, dear, the reviews to this long-ago posting have languished for years without a reply. So sorry, and thanks, and hope this finds you well!

demeter d · 7 September 2006 · Chapter 12: A Narrow Escape, by Jay of Lasgalen

Lovely revisiting of a great tale, in the frame of sharing it with someone new. I enjoyed the references to their many mishaps in your other tales. A fun story.

Author's reply

Much-belated thanks for taking the time to read and comment.

Tigger · 7 September 2006 · Chapter 12: A Narrow Escape, by Jay of Lasgalen

Oh Jay...Nicely done!! Lovely tale on what can happen when young ones w/an attitude decide they can do anything. Usually something bad isn't all that far behind. And BTW...Would the Hal in this story be a certain, Halabrad!?! Just wondering? Great tale!! :o)

Author's reply

Thank you muchly, on Jay's behalf -- for I don't know why I didn't solicit review replies at the time the reviews were posted, but evidently I didn't. So here are belated thanks. (And I like to thing of "Hal" as Halbarad myself, it makes me smile to imagine such a thing, so I certainly hope so.)

Larner · 6 September 2006 · Chapter 12: A Narrow Escape, by Jay of Lasgalen

Wonderful--a Hobbit to the last, our Pippin! Heh! And love the story told as well.

Author's reply

Much-belated thanks for stopping to read and comment.

shirebound · 6 September 2006 · Chapter 12: A Narrow Escape, by Jay of Lasgalen

This is wonderful! I'm so happy this story is being continued, and I love the twins visiting Pippin. What an interesting tale they had to tell him.

Author's reply

Was just going through and answering reviews, and found all these years-old reviews languishing without a response! So much belated thanks on Jay of Lasgalen's behalf, and mine, for stopping by and leaving a good word.

Dreamflower · 6 September 2006 · Chapter 12: A Narrow Escape, by Jay of Lasgalen

*grin* What a lovely addition to the story!! It works even better, told here, than it did on it's own! Pippin is particularly Pippish! I love his confusion in the face of identical twins, his efforts to avoid his medicine, and his eagerness to hear about the food! And the end was adorable! "Won't forget about elevenses?" Indeed! LOL!

Author's reply

From Jay of Lasgalen: Thanks! I must say, it was fun writing Pippin's comments on events. I've written hobbits so rarely, I find it a challenge to get the voice right - I'm glad you think it worked. I thought that *any* hobbit would be more interested in the food than other details :) Jay

demeter d · 26 June 2006 · Chapter 10: The Knight Has Been Unruly, by Dreamflower

Delightful, Dreamflower! A wonderful re-working of P.J.'s invented scene from the movie. Of course, he did compress time rather horribly, and the real differences in Frodo, Merry and Pippin's ages he blurred. But even so, I have liked that scene because it crystalized quickly the mischief the Hobbit cousins were capable of, and the fact that Gandalf had real affection for his Hobbits, especially the Tookish ones! Hobbits, especially Tooks, have always been Hobbits. Nice reference to Bilbo's conflict between his respectable Baggins half, and the wilder Tookish side which sent him walking out of his door with dwarves. A small foreshadowing to Frodo's future loss. And a very nice image of Grandfather Gerontius "bristling" just like Gandalf. I always thought they must have had a lot in common. Nicely done!

Bodkin · 18 June 2006 · Chapter 11: Good Knight, Sweet Prince, by Pipkin Sweetgrass

I love Boromir and Faramir in Dol Amroth - it seems such a relief of pressure for both of them - and protective big brother Boromir is lovely. Ioreth makes a good nurse for all those in her care. Soft-shelled crabs the lot of them!

Pearl Took · 18 June 2006 · Chapter 11: Good Knight, Sweet Prince, by Pipkin Sweetgrass

A pox upoon me for not having read this sooner. This group of tales has been one of those things that has kept slipping away from me. I love this story!! You have so beautifully captured Boromir the protective and loving brother. It is a hard lesson, whether for a parent or a sibling, to learn to let our younger ones go. Wonderful!!!

Pearl Took · 18 June 2006 · Chapter 10: The Knight Has Been Unruly, by Dreamflower

A delight!! It really does make sense that the perpetrators got switched as the story got passed down ;)

Author's reply

From Dreamflower: Exactly! And of course, PJ just got hold of the wrong version...

Pearl Took · 18 June 2006 · Chapter 9: Turnabout is Fair Play, by Anso the Hobbit

Wonderful, Anso! Yes, Pip grows up a lot on the Quest and it's a good thing for Merry that he does. :)

harrowcat · 18 June 2006 · Chapter 11: Good Knight, Sweet Prince, by Pipkin Sweetgrass

True hearts see truly. I have always liked Ioreth.

Armariel · 14 June 2006 · Chapter 8: A Little Knight Music, by Rabidsamfan

How delightful...hehehe I think I read a variation of this story when I was a kid! I can just see Sam telling it--wonderful! *applauds* ~~~{~@

Armariel · 14 June 2006 · Chapter 7: Shining Knight, by Pearl Took

Oh my, this is a jewel in itself...I can hardly say which of these stories I like best so far, and I wouldn't like to say anyway (well, we don't like to sound like we are playing favorites do we?;)) But if I did like to say...well this would be definitely at the top of the list! Absolutely beautiful and perfect! ~~~{~@
