Do you know, it took me forever to figure out who Annatar is going to become. Um, I haven't read the books in far too long? I think so. Anyway, it's really wonderful and I'm happy you are updating. This is the only fanfic I read anymore, so...I check back really often. Make today a good day and God bless. ~silentplanet~

Author's reply

Really? Wow, that's a nice endorsement. ^_^ I've been having incredible brainstorms all of a sudden, so I expect the updates to keep coming. Writing "Annatar" has been a real challenge so far. After associating him with a huge roaring eyeball for so long, it's hard to imagine him having an intelligible conversation! Have a lovely week, and God bless you, too. ;)

Aelinmir · 12 June 2006 · Chapter 7: Over the Mountains IV

very dark and i like how thranduil and celeborn can see through the Lord of Gifts

Author's reply

Several others can see through him as well, and we'll come to them soon. ;)

valjean · 12 June 2006 · Chapter 7: Over the Mountains IV

Oh my giddy aunt! THAT is a very well done Annatar. He gave me chills! My hat's off to you!

Author's reply

Thank you! ^_^ That's good to know. I was afraid he wouldn't be intimidating enough in the end. But we certainly haven't seen the last of him.

k_lara7 · 10 June 2006 · Chapter 6: Over the Mountains III

Well, not versed in the Simarilion, I believe we've just met Sauron. Interesting introduction, Thranduil being such a strong character, Sauron's already taking his measure, no ring for him. Celeborn's relationships with Oropher and Thranduil are such opposing facets, I wonder what he made of his introduction to Legolas in FOTR?

Author's reply

Indeed, we have. ;) I'm sure by the time FOTR rolled around, everything Oropher had said or done was water under the bridge. Other issues may have come up in the meantime, but we'll address them when the time comes. If I can set the scene well enough, I'd like to explore further Thranduil's relationship with Galadriel, which is the real crux of the issue.

Jay Greenleaf Elf · 10 June 2006 · Chapter 6: Over the Mountains III

This was such a cool chapter, I really enjoyed it, it's just a pity that there is also a serious note to it. I hope Oropher and Celeborn make peace before the end, after all, blood is thicker than water and nothing can replace a cousin, they are almost as close as a brother or sister. At least Thranduil is trying to bridge the two together, but I agree with Celeborn that Thranduil will be a better king than his father when that time comes, I really liked Oropher in the beginning and I was sad at the fact that will die in the end but now that he is king he has become more cold and more distant, I hope that he will soon learn that he needs allies like Celeborn and Gil-Galad. I absolutely love Celebrian, there is not many stories with her in, that she is actually playing a role and Amroth is also such a cool character. Annatar doesn't seem like such a good person, I wonder what he will be like towards Thranduil once they meet. I am looking forward to the next chapter to find out.

Author's reply

I'm glad you're enjoying it. ;) Wonder of wonders, I'm still on schedule, and the next chapter is up! And Thranduil has more than just family trouble to worry about.

Redheredh · 7 June 2006 · Chapter 6: Over the Mountains III

Good grief!! What's up with Glorfindel?! Is he somehow blinded by Annatar?! Does the good elf think this is a *friendly* Maiar emmisary from the Valar?! "But justice demands that one judge not by hearsay." What the **** did he mean by saying *that*?! Heavens, none of our *supposedly* lesser elves are in doubt, and we certainly know Celeborn and Galadriel aren't fooled. I'm shaken my head... Otherwise ;D a very welcome and entertaining chapter. I always enjoy Thranduil's observations of his kin. He has a big heart and there is a real connection between him and his younger cousins. Hmmm, no ones really asked him why he is not married yet. He was practically betrothed last time they saw him. Hmph... His talk with Celeborn emphasises how sadly ironic it is that he will indeed take up his father's crown. "She was everything he would have expected of a daughter of Galadriel, but he had the satisfaction of seeing that superlative Western beauty remade in the form of her father." ;) Loved that description! Had not planned on review until I got back in town, but was so happy you updated - and so shocked by Glorfindel! - just had to right this minute.

Author's reply

Don't worry; Glorfindel is no fool, but he still has a few misplaced trusts at present. He'll have ample opportunity to explain himself later on. ;) I'm afraid Thranduil is still having too much fun living the single life to marry her just yet. He seems to think he still has all the time in the world. However, Lindoriel may soon contest this . . . ;)

elliska · 7 June 2006 · Chapter 6: Over the Mountains III

Oooo! I was all ready to comment how much I enjoyed seeing the comparison between Thranduil/Celebrian and Greenwood/Eregion (I absolutely loved that part) and then I got to the end with Sauron! I didn't see that coming though I suppose I should have. Thranduil actually seeing him! I hope you let them speak together in a future chapter (although that in itself might be enough to precipitate war, so very possibly you dare not). This was a great chapter!

Author's reply

Thanks! ^_^ Oh, of course they have to speak. There are a few loose ends Annatar wants to tie off. ;)

Lady Saruman · 7 June 2006 · Chapter 6: Over the Mountains III

Hello, Coriel, I was wondering when you'd be back. I understand that you must be "dying" in Christendom. At my school, I haven't been faring any better, which is why I haven't been in contact with you for so long ever since spring break. ^^ Pardon me for being ever constantly repetitive, but I must mention this every time I read a chapter. It's so...joyous, I guess you could say. In slightly grim situations you are still able to mix in a little humor, though it is hidden in there discreetly, and though it may not be noticable to some people, I can detect it. =) Apparantly, Celebrían has never sat upon the grass before if she can order a servant to bring chairs. Sitting on the grass has indeed a lovely feeling (except when it's wet and it gets your behind all wet), because it's soft and comfortable in a way. Aha! Poor Thranduil. Imagine his shock when Glorfindel told him that he had wanted to meet the prince. Well, since Glorfindel had been since the first age, Thranduil would feel something like honor and respect to meet him, and feel as if his rank were nothing compared to someone alive for so long. And as Glorfindel says, Thranduil should enjoy Eregion while he's here. No way of knowing what lies in the future. o_O Celebrían dancing with Thranduil! Now that's just too cute! Now, of course, having no idea of Celebrían's age, I would assume that she would be way shorter than him. Now imagine that. Hmmmmmm that seems very frivolous and playful. Uh oh--the moment of suspense...Annatar. Now, we LoTR obsessors know that Annatar is really Sauron. But, these people from the Elven realms have no complete proof that he is evil, but they do feel suspicious. The Lord of the Gifts. Not a very impressive name for one who will try to dominate over Middle-Earth using cruelty int he future. I wonder what will happen... *plays suspenseful music on the organ* Okay, okay, I made a mistake in the last chapter. I tried telling you about everything, but unfortunately school has complete dominance over my life. So I PROMISE you right now that you'll get my email about the same time as this review, depending on if you read this first or that first. And seeing your reply for another review for the previous chapter--one week updates? Oh no, I couldn't keep up albeit it's almost the end of the school year. But hey, I'll try. Even if I don't review I assure you I will definitely read your story because it's just too good to miss! Hearts, Lady Saruman ^^

valjean · 6 June 2006 · Chapter 6: Over the Mountains III

Yikes! I was wondering when he would show up! Wonderful chapter.

Author's reply

Thanks. ^_^ Annatar is going to be a challenge to write, that's for sure.

Jay Greenleaf Elf · 29 May 2006 · Chapter 5: Over the Mountains II

Hi there, I do hope you will forgive me for not reviewing in ages, this year has become hectic sinse going into matric. I hope that you have not forgotten me, I sure haven't forgotten you, I kept telling myself that I need to read your updates so that I can review, and now finally I got down to it. These last few chapters have been great and I am still impressed with the story as well as the story line. I can't believe Oropher, he seems to be more interested in treasures and stuff than even in his own cousin, if I'm mistaken please correct me, I'm so glad that you have given Thranduil much more sense because almost every other fic I read about Thranduil is that Thranduil has the same attitude about alliances and treasures and Legolas is the one with sense, no I have to disagree with that, nowadays I have just been pressing the back button if there is just a hint of something like that about Thranduil. I don't see him like that at all, I know Tolkien said he loved treasures but he didn't say anything about him being obsessed and that is why I appreciate your writing, you put him in a better light and you gave him the heart to go visit his relatives despite what his father thinks, I think he was very brave standing up against his own father for what he believes in and risking his father's wrath. I just loved the first meeting between Thranduil and Celebrian, they both seem to have that fieriness that could either cause tension between the two or a great friendship and companionship. I truly enjoyed reading this and I hope that you will continue to update as soon as you can because I am dying to see two certain lovebirds get married ;D.

Author's reply

No, I've not forgotten you. ;) Nor, contrary to all appearances, have I forgotten Thranduil. :P Beginning tomorrow, I'm going to attempt what hitherto has been impossible: weekly updates. We've got to get this show back on the road! We have a lot of ground to cover! ;)

Redheredh · 24 April 2006 · Chapter 5: Over the Mountains II

*happy! happy!* A short but entertaining chapter with much time having passed in the story too, I see. ;D "the five-hundreth"?! Ai, Annatar is imminent... I like that little repart Thranduil and Celebrian shared. How it got so serious rather than staying at a teasing level, I do not know. ;) I cannot believe the lady does not know flirting when she hears it... or maybe Thranduil is too 'engaged' to do it well? Heh, it was a fun exchange! Alway glad to see more.

Author's reply

I certainly hope to provide more over the next few months. I'll need something to distract myself from general mundane affairs before the awesome adventure that is the Rome semester. :) But for now, Annatar is not the only thing that's imminent, but also my morning class and my metaphysics homework. So, I'm off to be studious now, but as always, thanks for the review! ;)

Eruanneth_Luin · 23 April 2006 · Chapter 5: Over the Mountains II

It is so good to see that Thranduil has not been relegated to the permanently long lost category. The young inexperienced guard was a touching reminder that not all elves were ancient and wise. Likewise the reunion with the older elf and the prospect of his returning with Thranduil to the Greenwood (I hope) gives one pause as to the effect the scattering of the various peoples would have on possible reuniting of old (in years, not looks) friends. His meetings with the feisty daughter of Galadriel promises some interesting future encounters.

Author's reply

No, he's just been temporarily long lost. ;) Now he has to contend with flesh-and-blood people for my attention. Yes, hopefully Celebrian will live up to my expectations for her character. We spend several chapters in Eregion according to the original plan, so she'll have occasion for several more appearances. Thanks for the review! ^_^ And the new ideas . . . Luinheled's character is stirring again with new possibilities . . .

prisoner24601 · 23 April 2006 · Chapter 5: Over the Mountains II

*does a happy little jig* Glad to see that you're still among the living, but sorry to hear that you're so stressed. The end of the year is always the hardest part. Great addition to your narrative, if a little short (but I really can't hold that against you), your writing is a captivating as ever.

Author's reply

Yeah, I'm still around. ^_^ I've been so busy finishing this semester and planning for the next one that poor Thranduil has hardly had a chance to cross my mind recently. But I'll definitely look at it again over the summer now that I know my readership still exists. ^_^

Elwen Lassriel · 23 April 2006 · Chapter 5: Over the Mountains II

*smiles* Very nice, Cori. I'm glad to see that you finally posted this. I'm also glad to see that we get to meet Lady Celebrían. :-)

Author's reply

She features even more later, so I'm sure you'll like that even more once I finally get around to writing it. I do have copious notes for this part of the story, so it shouldn't be too bad. Of course, those seem to be my most famous last words before the longest posting breaks. ;)

elliska · 22 April 2006 · Chapter 5: Over the Mountains II

So happy to see another installment of this! I really enjoyed seeing Thranduil's reunion with Amroth and his meeting with Celebrian. I hope you do have more time for writing this summer. :-)

Author's reply

So do I. ^_^ They do know how to keep us busy around here, so as soon as I can get away I would really like to make enough headway to appease the readership while I'm out of commission next semester. ^_^

k_lara7 · 22 April 2006 · Chapter 5: Over the Mountains II

I recently found your writing. Thranduil is a favorite of mine. I like the way you portray him. Much easier to see him as the last remaining Elvenking this way, rather than having him green with blond hair (i.e. cartoon version of The Hobbit).

Author's reply

Hi! I'm glad you like what you're seeing so far. Yes, the little green "Thranduil" was just weird. In any case, thanks for the review, and this summer I'll try to get this project back on the road for you. ^_^

Lady Saruman · 21 April 2006 · Chapter 5: Over the Mountains II

Yay! First reviewer!!! =) A very nice chapter, of course. During your long absence Thranduil has taken three months and eighteen days to get to Ost-in-Edhil—jk, jk. But it makes sense, though, considering the distance between Greenwood and the place where Celeborn resides. Well, anyways, it starts off with Thranduil and Gwaelas on their mounts riding through the city, humming a tune. You always start your chapters off with cheerfulness!!! And that’s what I like best about your stories. Nothing better than to start of with joy before all the crazy stuff happens. =/ Then, they meet that guard crouching and lurking on the road. And now why would he do that, I wonder? Then, his questioning of what Thranduil was doing at Ost-in-Edhil which you stated was clumsy probably proves that he is a new, inexperienced guard, or maybe there's something wrong with him…jk. After that, he sees his old teacher again, Luinheled. See? All joy there! =) When the prince then sees Amroth, his cousin, the first thing that Amroth says is "Thranduil, you renegade!"…Okay, not exactly how I would prefer greeting my cousin after a long while…heheh… Celebrían is part of the world! Yipee!!! Thranduil finds her easy to recognize outside because of her silver hair, a trait that she obtained from both of her parents, only more of Celeborn because Galadriel’s hair is more golden than silver. It turns out that the meeting between the two didn't go so well at first. Young as she may be, Celebrían has already known that some people come here because of special purposes, such as alliances, etc, etc. You can tell by her tone and what she says: "Has any particular purpose driven you here, or have you come merely to be impudent?" And she has a good vocabulary too. =) I didn't know the world impudent until I was in the fifth grade. =/ However, even the most uh, for want of a better word, ARROGANT ellyth can be charmed, as in this case. Well, I’m not calling Celebrían arrogant, but that's only until I can find a better word. Thranduil's smile must have done wonders, if that could disarm the young elleth. Wonderful ending here. Celebrían slips her arm around the Oropherion's in a Sindarin fashion and is about to accompany him in his exploration of the city. Certainly Thranduil would not regret his journey to Eregion—after all, who would then? A very nicely done chapter, despite the long absences and updates. -Lady Saruman =) P.S. I'll email you later explaining EVERYTHING that has happened over my long absence. Seriously! P.P.S. You won't be able to update until summer break? Poo. =( Ah well, try! Or else I'll MAKE YOU. =) HAHA jk, jk. Love, Lady Saruman

Author's reply

Yes, I finally got it up! It was finished by Easter, but with all the hectivity, I actually forgot about it. o_O This semester has been almost as crazy as the last one, but for different reasons. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I hope to entertain you again sometime before the end of May. ^_^

silentplanet · 8 April 2006 · Chapter 4: Over the Mountains

Have I ever missed your updates. Please, soon? I think that's all I can say. I hope you are well, and that finals go well, and take care and God bless, ~silentplanet~

Author's reply

Ah, you haven't forgotten about me! The good news is that the next chapter(ette) is finished, but unedited. My homework has hardly given me a moment I can call my own. I meant to have it up this week, but the term papers came down with a vengeance. So, hopefully there will be an update very soon! ^_^

Lady Saruman · 15 February 2006 · Chapter 4: Over the Mountains

Where I live, it's Feb. 14, so HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!! Man, I am so sleeepy...

Lady Saruman · 20 January 2006 · Chapter 4: Over the Mountains

hi there!!! i loved this chapter as well as the other ones. you may have noticed that this is the first review ive sent, but in reality, ive read your first and second story on the "we were young once" series, but it's jus that i didnt have time to review. well, i understand about classes ruling your life... it's happening to me too. well, i thought it would be nice to know that youre not alone... i'm suffering badly. you see, i'm only in the 8th grade and already i'm staying up till 3 or 4 in the morning. it's not always like this, it was just that my history teacher sprang up a project on us: we had to invent a machine from the colonial times that had to have lots of moving parts and it had to look appealing and look colonial, and we only got 2 weeks to do it, and it had to be unique. well, i spent the entire first week thinking, the second week planning everything out, until i actually began on saturday with only four days left, since it was due wednesday. i actually stayed up until 3 during those two horrid weeks. i'm not usually a procrastinator, but this i had no choice. and this is ONLY 8th grade, wait until sophomore and junior year of high school *shudder*. in conclusion, i loved it when thranduil climbed the tree to his room. imagine what lindoriel would have done if she saw him like that... dump him, i suppose...LOL . I am sorry to tell you that i read this story the day that it was updated, and i never got to review till now. you see, its just these stupid classes!!!!! i bet you'd understand seeing as youre in the same predicament. well, please update soon, and i promise to review as soon as i read youre next update! luv, Lady Saruman ^_~

Author's reply

Late reviews are fine. ;) All you need to do is tell me it was your school's fault, and I'll understand completely! Remember the old days when we actually used to be able to sleep at night? Yikes, that does sound like quite a project. Ours are mostly along the lines of lots of big books to read and papers to write; pretty straightforward, but that doesn't mean easy. :P Let's see; we don't have classes tomorrow so that we can all go to the March for Life, which leaves me all afternoon for Tuesday's homework. Tell ya what -- I'm going to go crash in my dorm, read a few horrid books of Paradise Lost and then start the next chapter. ;)

elliska · 14 January 2006 · Chapter 4: Over the Mountains

Sorry to be so late in reviewing this...the new year has been too busy. I loved the opening with the dogs. I can so see Thranduil surrounded by loyal dogs and an elf would have plenty of time to perfect a beautiful bloodline. And I liked the children's awe at the way he climbed into the trees. But Oropher with the dwarves and Noldor! What other reaction could there be. Hehehe. And I am still laughing that he kept the gold and Thranduil lectured him. Thranduil in Ost-in-edhil ought to be very interesting indeed. :-)

Author's reply

Oh, don't worry about being late; I know all about the new year being busy! Yes, Thranduil in Eregion will be facinating indeed. But now I just need to find a chance to write it. I've only been in class two days, but this is the first time I've been able to check my email since I got here. But, hey, what are weekends for? ;)

Ginger Rich · 11 January 2006 · Chapter 4: Over the Mountains

Wow. If I ever met Oropher, I can't imagine wanting to argue with him. He'd probably piss me off more than anything. BUT I still love him. He's dedicated to his family, though he's a tad greedy! Thankfully Thranduil is a levelheaded elf cuz he's gonna rule the kingdom! Well, I should say MORE levelheaded than his father because even Thranduil, yes our dear sweet Thranduil, is a little too protective of his gold. You capture their characters very well, Coriel. I'm always impressed. I like how you ended the chapter with Thranduil giving almost what sounded like an order to his father. It shows his maturity and strength. Okay, adios. Great job, and hopefully the next installment won't be so long off.

Author's reply

Yes, of the four temperaments, I'd say Oropher is strongly if not predominantly choleric. They can be rather unpleasant, though with a few redeeming qualities. ;) Thanks; I do try to get their voices down. But it's hard now with the college brain-drain going on at the same time. I will strive mightily to write the next installment in a timely fashion, at least start it this weekend, but the plan is long and elaborate which I trust will make it worth it in the end. ;)

Redheredh · 5 January 2006 · Chapter 4: Over the Mountains

I am so glad to see a new chapter here! Puppies and children! He handles both very affectionately, nice to see. But, have he and Lindoriel not wed yet? It is amazing to realize their home is so (or appears to be) unguarded. How times will change! The throneroom scene was quite entertaining. ;) Good for Thranduil, sticking up for peace with his kin. Though I do not know how those envoys ever got the impression that Oropher could be bought off like that. Personally, I think he is right - rude! - but right about their trying to purchase his support and why. The rulers of Eregion or the Mirdain should have picked wiser emmisaries. Pity his personal feelings cannot but worsen the situation, unlike his son's. Very enjoyable and a good setup for a trip abroad by Thranduil. *hint hint*

Author's reply

No, he's not quite ready to settle down just yet. But I assure you, that will change. ;) And yes, Thranduil is going to leave the woods for a bit. I can't wait; I've been planning this chapter for more than a year now! :D

Jay of Lasgalen · 4 January 2006 · Chapter 4: Over the Mountains

Ouch! I can easily see how Celeborn and Galadriel will take offence after that display! Thranduil was quite right to berate his father for it. I absolutely *loved* the earlier scenes of a carefree, informal Thranduil with a lapful of puppies, and then the wild, reckless climb through the trees. It's an image of Thranduil we see far too rarely. Jay

Author's reply

Oropher certainly isn't being especially tactful just now, but that comes of being rather full of himself at this point. Thranduil tends to be a bit more temperate. ;) At least he thinks for himself. Anyhow, sorry it took so long to answer my reviews this time; Christmas Break was winding down, and I got caught up in finishing some Gondorian wall hangings for a couple guys who thought their dorm rooms could use a touch of Middle-earth. :)

mistry89 · 30 October 2005

Sorry to hear you are so busy (I am selfish!), will look forward to any updates when you are ready. Thank you for telling such enthralling stories.

Author's reply

Well, I'm selfish too, and I've decided we need to make time for some entertainment. ;) So I'm reorganizing my schedule for next semester to avoid certain insanity, and we should see more of Thranduil on the side. ;)
