Andrea · 6 October 2008 · Chapter 34: The Bag End Fairy

"There are lad fairies?" Fro and Rosie-lass demanded. Ellie rolled her eyes and replied with all the superiority of an older sister. "Of course there are, otherwise there wouldn't be any new fairies!" LOL!!! That reminds me of that funny conversation between Gimli and Eowyn in the movies about female dwarves. And I'm quite sure that Frodo enjoys the tradition he started as much as the children do :)

Author's reply

Older sisters can be a bit bossy, I'm told. I'm sure Ellie is no different. I think Frodo really enjoys his life as uncle to the boisterous Gamgee children.

Tigger · 5 October 2008 · Chapter 34: The Bag End Fairy

...and a beloved family tradition was born. :o) This is just so delightfully snuggy and fluffy. Perfect for a crisp October night. Thanks for sharing this w/us m'dear!! BTW...Sorry for appearing to not be around. To say it was a busy Summer is like saying Frodo's eyes are a nice blue. Gigantic understatement. Thankfully, it was busy due to nice things, but still busy. Drop me an e-mail and we can catch up. :o)

Author's reply

Tigger! What a lovely surprise to see you back at last. I'm glad your absence was for pleasant reasons but we've missed you. When you didn't review the latest chapter of 'Centenary....' or any of the other stories I've posted this summer I started to worry! Glad you enjoyed the story of Mr Pootle - written as a sequel to the previous chapter, of coure! I sent an e-mail yesterday - hope it arrived.

Larner · 5 October 2008 · Chapter 34: The Bag End Fairy

And so family tales are born, as folk explain the toads in the garden! This is as wonderful as Pippin's tiny Hobbit house! Heh! Love it!

Author's reply

After I'd written the story and was re-reading it, I thought of the little hobbit house! Perhaps Mr Pootle (and Mrs Pootle?) live in it............? Delighted that you enjoyed the story.

Dreamflower · 5 October 2008 · Chapter 34: The Bag End Fairy

LOLOL! Frodo had no idea what he was starting! But I can imagine all the children deciding that the toad was "lad-fairy". *giggle*

Author's reply

*giggles* No, I don't think Frodo had any idea what he was starting! Lad fairies and long and earnest discussions as to whether there is a Mrs Pootle. Another tradition has begun.

6336 · 5 October 2008 · Chapter 34: The Bag End Fairy

Oh, that was sweet! Just what do lad fairies wear? More please, Lynda

Author's reply

What do lad fairies wear? Something like a teeny elf outfit perhaps........... I'm glad you enjoyed this - lots of other silly, funny, and (very occasionally)sad stories here! I hope you enjoy discovering them.

shirebound · 5 October 2008 · Chapter 34: The Bag End Fairy

"Is there a Mrs Pootle?" Oh, this is such a delight! Bag End becomes more and more magical and full of wonder with each passing year. I absolutely love this.

Author's reply

What a lovely review to find - I love entering this world and finding so much magic to be revealed. Glad you enjoyed.

Kara's Aunty · 22 September 2008 · Chapter 32: Hidden Treasure

Hello, I loved Hidden Treasure, it was completely delightful! The vision of stern Thranduil 'mothering' a toddler and being mothered in turn by Rose was irresistible. A visit by all to Greenwood would be a terrific sequel... Maureen

Author's reply

Goodness! How nice to find a new review. I'm so glad you enjoyed the story. I wanted to see what those stern Elf-lords and warriors would do if faced with Rose in her own house. Hmmm - a visit to the Greenwood...........! Thanks for reviewing.

Kitty · 20 September 2008 · Chapter 33: Garden Guardian

That's so like Frodo to wonder how the toad survived Saruman's bullies. And of course, the children would give the toad a name and Sam would talk to it. It's amazing how you manage to write about so many different animals at Bag End - who would have thought that a toad could make for such a lovely ficlet?

Author's reply

I'm sure the children would give the toad a name, and Sam was no doubt delighted to have such a helpful creature in the garden. Glad you liked Mr Pootle - he is rather sweet, isn't he?

harrowcat · 19 September 2008 · Chapter 33: Garden Guardian

I loved this BB Frodo wonders what happened to the toad while the ruffians were around. He was obviously a very sensible creature and stayed out of their way, camouflaged against soil and stones. Given that Orcs nearly overlooked then and then thought that they were nothing but more orcs it seems that Servants of Sauron are not good at seeing what is right under their noses.

Author's reply

No, the servants of Sauron weren't that bright, were they? Lucky for Mr Pootle, who no doubt stayed in the shelter of rocks and moved cautiously at all times. Glad to hear that you enjoyed the visit to Hobbiton.

Antane · 19 September 2008 · Chapter 33: Garden Guardian

I love these tales with Frodo being able to stay with his brother and all his nieces and nephews, instead of just seeing them with his heart and living there with them, but here he had them and they have him as flesh and blood to embrace and love. What joy it gives them all! Thank you for another glimpse into that life. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

I'm delighted that you enjoyed another little visit to my Shire. I do like to have Frodo safe and happy in the Shire, surrounded by those he loves.

6336 · 19 September 2008 · Chapter 33: Garden Guardian

Toads are very much to be appreciated in a garden, one of natures pest control officers. My Great Aunt, a country women, unfortunatley hated them and would kill them on sight. Old superstions die hard! Lynda

Author's reply

Poor toads - it is such a shame that they have been viewed with such suspicion over the centuries. I think they're sweet, and wonderful pest control officers, as you say. :-)

Larner · 19 September 2008 · Chapter 33: Garden Guardian

Ah, we like Mr. Pootle. I had a huge garden toad here when I moved in, but it was hit by a friend wielding the lawn mower. But the other day as I was removing a broad-leafed weed a number of young toads who'd been sheltering under it began hurrying through the garden looking for another hiding place. Each is about an inch long and the same muddy brown color. I've seen as many as ten at a time, so obviously some toad managed to reproduce, and my garden should be well protected for a good long time!

Author's reply

i'm glad you like Mr Pootle! He's rather cute, I admit. Poor toad - lawn mowers are always a hazard. How nice to find lots of young toads though. Your garden is in safe hands.

Dreamflower · 19 September 2008 · Chapter 33: Garden Guardian

Aww...I love the way you have "peopled" Bag End with all sorts of very personable animals--Mr. Pootle! There *has* to be a story behind a name like *that*! LOL! And a toad would be a very valuable asset to a gardener!

Author's reply

*giggles* Yes, it is a strange name - I tend to call my cats 'pootle' as an affectionate nickname sometimes and when the story came to me I just had to call the toad Mr Pootle. He seems to be quite a character and a real asset to Sam.

shirebound · 19 September 2008 · Chapter 33: Garden Guardian

Ohhh, I love Bag End and all of its residents, hobbit and otherwise! Plodly and Mr. Pootle, Rufus and Sooty, all contribute to this happy home. :)

Author's reply

Bag End must have some interesting animals and I thought Mr Pootle would be an entertaining addition. Glad you enjoyed.

utfrog · 19 September 2008 · Chapter 33: Garden Guardian

From my name you can tell, I love frogs and toads - this is just lovely. Thanks

Author's reply

I like all animals and frogs and toads are so useful, yet they are not as protected as some - possibly because they're not furry. Glad you liked Mr Pootle!

Tigger · 28 May 2008 · Chapter 32: Hidden Treasure

Oh BB...This was wonderful. However when Goldie thanked Thranduil for her nap, I nearly melted into a pool of fluffy goo. :oD Just too, too adorable for words that. Hidden treasure indeed and dare I hope that the Shire's hidden treasures share another not so hidden Shire treasure w/Glorfindel and Thranduil? That of the beverage of The Green Dragon? Hmmmm? :oD Just wondering. This really was delightful BB. :o)

Author's reply

Oh dear! You and Shirebound? Little puddles of goo forming everywhere. My work here is complete! *grin* Glorfindel and Thranduil at the Green Dragon? Not to mention Haldir! Hmmmmmmm! Now there's a prospect - tiddly Elves weaving their way along the lanes of Hobbiton. Glad you enjoyed.

Kitty · 26 May 2008 · Chapter 32: Hidden Treasure

Ah, just what I needed – Glorfindel and Thranduil in the Shire, snuggling up with little Hobbits and eating Rose’s delicacies! Perfect! "You must come and visit it, and see it in all its glory." Yeeessss! You realise now I want this story, too? Frodo laughed. "I fear the peace of the Greenwood might be a little unsettled if we bring the entire family!" Particularly if the family should include Merry and Pippin ;-) The end is beautiful, BB. I absolutely love the image of Frodo and Sam shining with the light of Laurendil and Telperion. Hidden treasures, indeed! (And of course it will not be Thranduil’s and Glorfindel’s last visit. Now that they have tasted Rose’s cooking ...) Um ... is there any hope for an update of the centenary birthday story?

Author's reply

Glad you enjoyed the snuggly Elves and hobbits! Hmmm..... A visit to the Greenwood eh? Now there's a plot bunny! And certainly I think Glorfindel, Thranduil and the other Elves will be back. I've been trying to finish the latest chapter of the centenary birthday. RL keeps getting in the way and a stray cat and a litter of kittens took up a great deal of my time. It is almost finished though.

harrowcat · 26 May 2008 · Chapter 32: Hidden Treasure

Ah, *happy sigh*. Lots of lovely treasure hidden in the Shire indded.

Author's reply

Ah yes, the Shire is full of treasure. Glad you enjoyed it.

Larner · 25 May 2008 · Chapter 32: Hidden Treasure

Yes, a hidden treasure indeed has dwelt there, although more and more appreciate just how wonderful a place it is as time progresses, I think.

Author's reply

I'm glad you enjoyed it, Larner. I hope more people come to appreciate the marvels of the Shire.

Dreamflower · 25 May 2008 · Chapter 32: Hidden Treasure

That's just delightful! I love the images of the two ancient elves with armfuls of wee!hobbits. *grin* And do I detect the hint that the Gamgee clan might visit the Greenwood? (You should give Rose's recipes--especially the one for the cherry cake!)

Author's reply

Yes, I could just see the two Elves with their arms full of tiny hobbits! :-) As for a visit to the Greenwood........well, you never know. Hmmmmm. I think I may have to compile a recipe page!

shirebound · 25 May 2008 · Chapter 32: Hidden Treasure

Goldilocks stirred, smiled up at Thranduil and gave him a hug. "Fank oo for my nap," she said with a beaming smile *melts clean away* Oh my goodness, the lights of the Trees! That's the loveliest idea ever. Now that Thranduil, Glorfindel, and Haldir have visited the Shire once, I certainly hope they make a habit of it (or a nice looooong visit). Wheeeee.

Author's reply

You win that first prize again! Well, I did have them all at Elanor's wedding so I thought I'd have a peek at their first visit. It certainly won't be their last, I'm sure! *Hands out tissues to mop up melted Shirebound*

Mirkwoodmaiden · 25 January 2008 · Chapter 30: Yule Morning

Frodo gave them a fiendish grin. "I'm going to put the kettle on - " "You'll look daft." "You don't know that. I may well look very stylish wearing a kettle! As I was saying, I shall put the kettle on. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! Ah Yes! The reworkings of an old joke are the best! A lovely bright little ficlet! MM

Mirkwoodmaiden · 23 January 2008 · Chapter 22: Rufus Considers

Ah Rufus! Such a wise cat! I love his ability to see the light of people's souls! And how fitting that Aragorn and Frodo should shine with the same intensity of light. I laughed when I read that Gimli was thought upon with favor because "he was generous with the tidbits" Always the way to a cat's heart! Rufus, a cat of much wisdom and like us can't really understand the fuss over the babies! "the very smalll ones all look alike!" LOL! I love it! MM

Author's reply

Rufus is a very wise cat - he likes Gimli for such practical reasons! Babies always look alike to me - unless they have fur, of course. :-) Glad you liked it - now I look forward to more reviews *hint*

Dreamflower · 4 January 2008 · Chapter 31: A Yule Surprise

Finally, I am getting to read some of the stories I have a backlog of! Now, that was clever! I would never have thought of them as being twins, separated by the few hours between the old and new year! You are so sharp! But it makes sense! And I love the way all were so surprised at the end--what a wonderful Yule for them all!

Author's reply

Glad you're catching up. I suddenly thought that they could possibly be twins and once I did that the bunny would not let go of my ankle. A nice Yule surprise for all the family.

Antane · 27 December 2007 · Chapter 31: A Yule Surprise

Lovely - I do like your AU-verse here with Frodo being the proud uncle of so many - he was in any case, but to actually watch them grow up... What a blessing. And twins now too! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Author's reply

I had to find a way round the birth years for Hamfast and Daisy, as given in the family trees, and this particular plotbunny bit me hard. I enjoy writing this AU, just to give Frodo some fun for a change.
