These pranks are very amusing, I want to read more of them. I wonder how far they will go until someone says stop. I was laughing out loud.
Author's reply
The Elves are long suffering, right? I don't know how long it will go on, as things just seem to be snowballing. I'm glad you're laughing!

I apologise for not reviewing on the first two chapters. This story is fun! I can't wait to see what Aragorn cooks up for those hobbits next. I suppose the ante will be upped with each round. This should be good... ~TF
Author's reply
No worries, I'm glad you're reviewing now! Aragorn is going to cook up something awful, no doubt. Being a ranger, he has numerous ways of getting back at people. ^_^

Oh, this is great! Now the real question is : who should we be feeling sorry for, Aragorn or the hobbits?
Cheers,
Silvae
Author's reply
Well, I don't feel particularly sorry for either party: they're doing it to themselves, after all! But my sympathies rest with Aragorn at the moment. :)

I'm definitely feeling sorry for poor Aragorn! I hope he finds out why the hobbits started the war, and explains why he took them through the Marshes!
Author's reply
Yes, he really is going into this blindly, isn't he? Poor man. He'll find out eventually.

Bilbo is showing the wisdom of his years. And Frodo is sensible to keep his head down. This is not a situation for invalids.
I love Luinil waiting in the hall with milk - she knows her Estel. Predictable clearly describes him well.
Predictable also describes Pippin and Merry - but Aragorn doesn't yet know what to predict! He will, though. Frogs. Snakes. What's next, I wonder?
I hope he doesn't intervene between a hobbit and his food again! Or do I? Hobbits trapped foodless in the sight of food might be torment beyond the bounds of humour. But satisfying!
(I like their response to naked Ranger! Quite understandable.)
And now we're onto refusing to be seen to be defeated. This is how WW1 started!
Author's reply
Predictable indeed! That's what makes this story fun: the fact that neither party knows what to expect next. Whatever Aragorn does next will have to rely on waht little he truly knows about hobbits. :)
Frodo and Bilbo can only turn a blind eye for so long. Hee!
Hmm, hobbits trapped within sight of food...sounds like torture! Aragorn would meet his death for something like that! But I like that idea.
Oh, dear, WW1. I don't think that this will be quite as serious as that, but Elrond and Gandalf may have to step in before the end. Lol!

Hee... I love it! And especially the bits about Aragorn's greasy hair, and Merry's comment about no one messing with a hobbit's food. I wonder if Aragorn could do something to their pipeweed? I could guess that would get them a little upset... (at least, that's how I've written it before... 0:)
Author's reply
woman, you have inspired me! Pipeweed is something I hadn't even thought of. Oh dear, oh dear, but this will be fun!

Thanks!

"Luinil gazed at the smug Ranger drily for a moment, than took the tray. She had had far too much experience with this particular mortal to not know when he was up to something." LOL! Just wonderful!
The war isn't over yet! And I'm still counting on Frodo! It's impossible, I think, that the cries of distate from his cousins will not wake him, and when Merry has told him HIS version of the story, he will think of something, I'm sure ;-)
Author's reply
I'm glad you like it!
And I haven't really decided if Frodo's going to join the war. He'll definitely get woken up, but depending upon what Merry actually tells him (remember, Frodo would also find out about the frog!), Frodo may or may not be sucked in. Not immediately, in any case. ^_^

The plot thickens! Now Merry is going to have to find a way to identify the culprit. And his honor will demand he one-up Aragorn. This is a delightful plot line; all too rarely do we see silliness and pranks in Rivendell. I would love to see our recovering Ring-bearer get sucked into it! (hint, hint)
Author's reply
Hobbit honor is a funny thing. Aragorn doesn't know quite what he's started, lol!
I have no idea if Frodo will become sucked into this. I see him as the long-suffering elder cousin. :)
I knew I was going to love this fic from the first paragraph. That so perfectly fits with my idea of Merry! I loved the descriptions of the little personality traits of the hobbits - the way Pippin hated to be on look-out, for example. The comment about 'letting older cousins do the thinking' was perfect - Pippin in a nutshell. Ohhhh, has Merry contemplated the consequences of his actions??
Author's reply
Tweenager!Pippin is a joy to write. I've been writing him post-Quest lately, so getting to write him as immature and silly is a real joy.
Merry is in *trouble*! And while I'm at it, I'd like to thank you for your funny stories, especially the ones set in Rivendell. They're what I need when I need a real laugh. :)

Oh, this is getting better and better. Though, I have to admit, Merry's comment about the Elf "code" is giving me Pirates of the Caribbean associations... "Keep to the Code" and all that. ;)

Lol, POTC was showing on TV when I was writing this chapter, and that's were the code remark came from.
Go make fruity pancakes! Go! ^_^

I see. So, this is how the war advances, is it? Poor little Hobbits are going to learn that this Ranger has tricks up his sleeve, too. And hiding behind Frodo and Bilbo? How ineffective!

It was terribly ineffective, and I'm afraid the lads are out for blood now! :)

Ooooh....I found myself wincing in pain w/Merry and Pip. That was evil. Sheer brilliance, but evil all the same. :oD Loved the breakfast scene. Aragorn being in such a bright and cheery mood would certainly set off alarm bells in Pippin's head and then for Legolas to sit beside him and mention the bull frog...LOL!!!
This is so much fun to read. I'm assuming there's more, right? Please? :oD
Author's reply
Yes, there is more coming! :) I'm glad you like it! The hobbits would be very worried if everyone was so nice the next day. Poor lads.

Of course, Aragorn does not yet realize that he has just upped the ante. You do *not* mess with a hobbit's food, and most *especially* you do not mess with their tea!
(im)Patiently waiting for more...
Author's reply
And more is coming!
The hobbits will be out for blood after this. You're right, *no one* messes with a hobbit's food! Alas, poor Aragorn. :)

Legolas is fun to write, especially when he's in context with the hobbits. I always thought that he had great potential for being truly hilarious.

It's against their CODE? Love it!! Omigosh, this story is hysterical.
The voice in his ear was soft and velvety, and just slightly sinister. Pippin jumped a foot high and yelped.
“Let’s go join Frodo,” Merry said at last, dodging Pippin’s question. “No one can get us in his room.”
Hah! They can get you anywhere, Merry!
:D
Author's reply
Lol, I was watching "Pirates of the Caribbean" while writing it, and the line "keep to the code" inspired me. Of course, Merry's totally wrong, but that's what makes it funny. ^_^

· Chapter 2: Chapter Two-Red Hot Chili Pepper
Elves do not pull pranks! It’s against their code, or something.
Do they not? (Well, that contradicts about a million twin stories!) And they might watch - with a look of faint bemusement. Although I think certain elves might be willing to take a more active part.
Legolas took his time spreading a thin cake flat and filling it with strawberries and cream. If he had not been so agitated, Pippin would have been interested; he had never seen that mixture on hotcakes before.
Pippin must be in a panic if it takes his attention off food - especially strawberries and cream.
Luinil gazed at the smug Ranger drily for a moment, than took the tray. She had had far too much experience with this particular mortal to not know when he was up to something.
She's humouring him! Strider is being made to feel like an indulged kid! How entertaining.
Well - I hope he realises that the war can - and will - get much worse. And probably involve others. (I can hope!)
Author's reply
Merry only thinks they don't pull pranks: he hasn't been in Rivendell long enough to see the Elves as anything but serene. I'm sure once this gets rolling that the twins, at least, will get involved. Hee!
Poor Pippin. He's used to retaliation swifter than Aragorn's.
There's that line from TTT, where Legolas calls Gimli and Aragorn children, and I can only imagine the Elves thinking of Aragorn as such. It must make the poor man crazy, to be a full grown adult and still humoured!

Oh, but LOL! Lovely and hilarious all at once. I can`t wait for more. It`s fun seeing the mischeivious streak in Strider coming out. :D
Author's reply
Isn't Strider cute when he's devious? I'm having such fun with this!
I, too, am howling with laughter, I must say. Aragorn son of Arathorn is afraid of a BULLFROG???? The Captain of the Rangers and Chieftain of the Dunedain? Oh, how wonderful!
Author's reply
Yes, it would be a bullfrog, wouldn't it? The smallest thing, lol. I'm glad you like it!
Wow, GREAT idea... awesome beginning, too. I can't wait to read more about it!

Heehee, I love it! Even though I know the title's from Shakespeare, I can't help thinking it a little clever that Merry was the hobbit who started it. And I absolutely love the thought of Aragorn screaming like a girl! Legolas's response was also priceless. I can't wait to see what Aragorn's retaliation is!

Shakspeare is so much fun to pun, and this was the perfect opportunity! I'm glad you like this fic!

That's so funny! Aragorn, the fearless ranger, afraid of frogs!
And what made me grin, too, was that Pippin is afraid of Diamond, his bossy cousin. Well, seems he changed his mind in the end ;-)
Aragorn is a clever ranger, though! Maybe he WILL ask Frodo, and if he does, Merry and Pippin will have a very difficult time!
Author's reply
Frogs are the silliest thing to be afraid of, aren't they? Poor Aragorn. I don't know if he's going to tell Frodo, as right now I'm being led blindly by these characters. I'm glad you like the fic!
Well, Aragorn may have decided that he can play as well - but he is confronting Merry! And Pippin. He really should take some advice from Frodo before deciding he's up to the challenge!
Author's reply
I don't think Aragorn knows quite what he's up against yet. Poor man. He'll be much wiser about dealing with hobbits by the time this war is through!
