What a wonderful and vivid imagination. I am glad that Bilbo quelled the snickers. And I love the crackers.
Author's reply
Yes, he does have a very vivid imagination, and I like to imagine that all our lad do. :-) Lads will be lads -- and being the youngest, I'm sure Pippin drew the most snickers from his cousins just by being himself, lol. Thank you -- and thank you for reading!

· Chapter 11: A King's Ransom
You are being busy PIp...er PF (*g* & thanks for the permission - it feels so much more friendly,) I am just getting around to reviewing this tale and two more pop up. I will try not to wait three days before reviewing them!
I did read and enjoy this over at Marigold's Challenge. I know it is almost incidental to the tale I would love to hear more about this special lantern.
Author's reply
LOL, well, not *that* busy -- my job keeps me a little more employed than I like, taking up the free time I'd have to muse up new tales. Actually, there *are* new tales swimming in the back of my head, but I have so little time of late to sit down and write.
I have a huge backlog of Challenge tales to post, and I certainly don't plan to deluge folks with them, but I decided to post these particular ones today because *if* someone were to comment on them *now*, I would never know it because I don't return to these sites. If someone takes the time out of their busy day to leave a kind word of encouragment--someone like you :-), a response in kind is my way of saying thank you. I *know* I'm not the only person chained to the workplace, which makes the review (your review!) all the more appreciated.
Reviewing twice was certainly a surprise, and thank you very much! The special Lantern is one of the "new" stories swimming inside my head, lol. We'll have to see what the coming days, weeks, or months may bring. :-)

So, we're left wondering how this one managed to acquire the lantern, and to hope Tinker didn't lose too much in the trading.
Bless Pippin for his perseverence.
Author's reply
Oh, I'm sure there was some sort of bartering and buyin going on between the Tinker and the Peddler, but that wasn't at the forefront of Pippin's mind. He just wanted his keepsake back.
LOL, or shall we say, "stubbornness"?
Thanks for reading!

I love this! It is the sweetest tale. How often does this happen, that we lose something, either tangible or intangible, that we didn't mean to lose and then have to struggle to get it back.
Wonderful, dearest Pippinfan!!!
Author's reply
Dear, dear, Pearl -- you are so sweet! Most times we never get it back, which is sad. Thank you so much for stopping by to read -- again, lol. I really do appreciate it. :-)

· Chapter 10: The 19th Hole
Ah--to meet THAT ghostie! Poor little Pippin--I'd throw my ball toward the green, also.
Played one full nine-hole game of golf--NEVER again! Not for me, chasing balls of gutta percha!
Author's reply
LOL, me, too! Well, I've made the attempt at 19 holes of golf only once in my life, and that was when I was stationed in Norfolk, VA. I don't recall if they had a "19th Hole" because our group bailed after the 15th hole, lol. It was getting close to 4 o'clock in the afternoon and we were only on the 15th hole! We were all in good physical shape and we were *beat*! I had visions of my ball sailing high in the air -- much like Frodo and Merry's. NOT. Mine looked more like a jackrabbit bouncing all over the ground. :-P
In this tale Pippin is a young teenager; he holds to his honour as much as he possibly can -- until face to face with a ghost, lol.
Thank you so much for reading!

Great story, Pippinfan!
It's always funny to read about hobbits playing golf! Maybe you read GamgeeFest's stories about the same subject, featuring Legolas' first encounter with golf.
I liked the ghost of Bandobras "Bullroarer" Took!
The best part of playing golf is certainly the 19th hole ;-)
Thank you!
Author's reply
Until yesterday I didn't know about GamgeeFest's tale - I was talking to another friend of mine earlier on Saturday and she had mentioned it, too! Since I've had two excellent recommendations all in one day, I'm going to search it out and read it, lol.
When I first wrote this tale, I thought the "19th Hole" was solely located on the golf course at the Defense Supply Center in Columbus (besides that of my own tale, lol), alas, I've since been corrected -- many times, lol. Apparently, it's a common name at a host of golf courses. I've played only one game of golf in my entire life and unlikely to ever play again. :-P
As for Bandobras, he's an anomoly of sorts. A dear friend gave me a nudge to post this story, and when I was combing it over for any last minute tweakage, I remembered that the Professor has Bandobras taking his family and moving to the Northfarthing. I asked this friend how the heck I got away with putting him in the Tooklands, because I have no idea now where my headspace was while I wrote the story (its been over 2 years). With her response in mind, I had Pippin see the condition of Bandobras' gravestone and mutter "I'll wager you wish you had been buried with your people up north..." or something like that for some sort of explanation.
Thanks for reading!

Oh Pip! How marvelous! I loved this story! You capture children and the emotions and little moments that make them so loveable. This was so sweet! Poor Vinca. That was sweet of Frodo to take care of her. But often that's why we go through hard times...to help others later who are in the same plight you were in. Hannon le, mellon nin! Namarie!
God Bless,

Author's reply
I agree; people learn empathy through their own predicaments. I do like this wee tale, too--in a sweet way, I imagine Vinca as having a wee bit of a crush on her older cousin as she grows up.
Well...seems my Elvish is sorely lacking, lol. Namarie...and God bless!

Ooh, I like this one, Pip! Very creative, and sweet. I've been the "new kid" more times than I can count. It's neat to see a story about Frodo having similar experiences. I've been the "new kid" on occasion, myself, and it has been a bit difficult at times. Thank you, btw, for your lovely compliments! It really topped off my day in a wonderful way. I merely try to convey the drama/comedy/angst that I see/feel in my musing--I'm glad that you enjoy it.

I really enjoyed this story - and how typical for things to go wrong, even after Diamond had managed to get into the house! Dear old Pippin - locks the door and leaves a window open. :-))
Yes, as Andrea says, there must be something about Nobottle. I mention it in several of my stories, particularly 'Birthday Surprises.' 'Nineteen Nights in Nobottle' is the most vulgar and outrageous Shire drinking song!
Good luck to Pip in his investigations of the lacy petticoats!
Author's reply
Ah...the infamous Nobottle! I shall pay a visit to look these up! :-) I actually tossed several village names into the equation, but Nobottle sounded the hobbity-est...if there is such a word. ;-)

Well, it seems that Nobottle is a really interesting place, first that famous song by Baggins Babe, and now an idiom - I'm impressed ;-)
That was very funny! I remember a story where Pippin was scolded by Merry for leaving the window open. This time it proved to be very useful.
Now, let's give Pip some privacy for his further investigations ;-)
Author's reply
LOL, I'll have to go check out Baggins Babe's famous song! I just sort of threw a village name in there, though most any one could suffice. I imagined everyone in the Shire made a jest about Buckland's locksmiths (except Bucklanders, of course!). Being that Merry *is* a Bucklander, he may still scold Pippin for leaving a window open, lol, but he's not here in *this* tale. ;-)
LOL, yes, we'll leave him and Diamond alone for a bit...
Thank you for stopping by to read and for the lovely review!

I suspect Pippin shall have a thorough investigation of that petticoat. That lacy petticoat. That tantalizingly lacy petticoat.

Thank you, Dreamflower. :-) When I first read the verse I quoted by Anais Nin, I *knew* this had a certain hobbit's name written all over it, and I was inspired to write it for him.
I will have to pm you about Rory--its a good pm, lol, but much too long to post here--you know how much I love to chatter! As for Bilbo being on time...I belive Fate had his hand on Frodo's life from the very beginning. ;-)
