I`m glad they found their way out of the forest easy and quick. Of course with Rangers about they should manage but the Old Forest is sneaky and moves its paths... :) I had to laogh at your description of Merry running about and pacing. That`s so true to his character. :) Can`t wait for more!

Come on, Halbarad. Whine as you like. Scream as loudly as you want. All you will get will only be hobbits all around you. Isn't that the sweetest thing? :)

EllyBaggins · 25 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Hidden Fears

"Aragorn smiled to himself. If he knew his hobbits, Halbarad would soon be distracted not by pain, but by more food than he could possibly eat." Loved that line...his hobbits! And i really like the way you're writing Halbarad; wanting to be brave in front of those he is trying to protect. i bet aragorn was just like that in his younger years! something i keep forgetting to ask, i your (excellent) story By Chance Or Purpose it is mentioned that aragorn last saw frodo on his 35th birthday after bilbo left the shire. is this mentioned in the other stories from this series or is it just there to make the story work?

Bless the Hobbits indeed, for Halbarad will know care--and, indeed, feeding. Love the imagery, and also wonder if and when the spell will take Frodo.

TheHobbitWaffle · 23 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Hidden Fears

*Makes high-pitched keening sound* You sure know how to keep a girl in suspense!

Pearl Took · 23 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Hidden Fears

yes, Merry will be a fine Master of Buckland :) It will be interesting to see how Frodo is affected.

Well, at least Halbarad won't be hungry for much longer if I know my hobbits the way Aragorn does. :oD Poor Halbarad...He's rather young and green here, isn't he? I mean, not wanting to show any pain when Aragorn sets his ankle because he thinks that would be letting his Captain down. Count on Aragorn to show Halbarad that's not weakness. And thank goodness for that furry little puppy!! If Scamp hadn't been there, there's no way they would have gotten out. Something tells me Frodo's in for a tough time of things. And what's w/the "treasure" Frodo found in The Old Forest? Can't wait to read more from this wonderful universe you've created!! :o)

Another ill Frodo tended by Aragorn? Quarantined deja vu! Sounds like fun :) <>< Saved from sin through Christ, MJ

I was so excited to read the next chapter. Somehow I can't see Frodo being spared - you do give him his fair share of delerium don't you? But then the healing and comfort that follows is fantastic. It is almost as much fun reading your replies to the reviewers. I am being nibbled by your plot bunny concerning the writing of Bilbo's poem about the Dunadan but I haven't written a real story since I left school and you appear to be answering it within your universe. I am dying to hear more but I do know what you mean about RL and full-time work so consider this review as a cooling hankie to soother your brow and a strong cup of coffee to keep you awake long enough to write!

Oh, yay, a new chapter! I've been watching for it! “It’s nothing,” Frodo said airily. “I was scratched by a couple of thorns. Oh, Bilbo!” he cried, his eyes sparkling. “Wait until I show you what I found!” He patted his largest pocket. “Estel hasn’t even seen it yet.” Mmm, mmm, mm. So many great lines to choose from. The rangers are fantastic. I love them. Merry and Bilbo are awesome . . . they just come to life. And Frodo . . . oh, my optimistic little hero, not knowing what's going to happen to him . . . and a lot WILL happen, right? Lots of scary illness requiring much TLC? That's my favorite part of the story . . . and I have to say I like your fics best because there is so much character development always going on when characters have to pull together. You have such great stories in Q-universe. I realize that there's lots of TLC and food to be given out, because we have not one but two wounded ones here, but hobbits and rangers are surely the best folks to supply anyone with food and love, right? Happy typing . . . please update soon . . . thanks, esamen

"Something he had learned about Merry was that the boy needed to be doing -- or thinking about -- something nearly all the time." - That's 100 percent Merry :) Shirebound, this chapter is great. It has everything a good chapter needs, last but not least: you surprised me! What is it, that Frodo took with him? Is it dangerous? Will it influence him somehow? Can't wait for the next chapter!

SlightlyTookish · 23 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Hidden Fears

I still sense lots of foreboding and I don't think that Frodo's out of the woods yet (ouch, bad joke ;)). I love how you show Bilbo assessing Merry's leadership potential - he must have been so grateful when Merry went along with Frodo on the Quest so many years later :)

Auntiemeesh · 23 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Hidden Fears

I love this sort of AU continuation of your AU story. ;P I'm glad you're doing an exploration of Frodo's first visit to the Old Forest. That throwaway line of Merry's about Frodo visiting once before, and Frodo's reluctance to discuss it has always intriqued me. I'm really enjoying your take on things. :)

Lily the Hobbit · 23 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Hidden Fears

That chapter is just as nasty as the one before... we still know nothing about the thorns - and what is it that Frodo has in his pockets? *is very curious*

Rowan · 23 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Hidden Fears

It'd be funny if Frodo *didn't* get scratched by Halbarad's thorn and was completely fine -- the end! (But your readers would probably lynch you if you didn't supply them with their angst!) Thanks for a very enjoyable AU, even if I do get a sugar buzz every time you update! :-) -Rowan

Eee! I caught up with this story last night in the hopes you would post the next chapter this morning. Poor Halbarad! I thought it was bad enough that his ankle was broken, but now you say it's compound. Ouch! Poor Frodo! He's going to need lots of TLC from Bilbo and more than one Ranger, I expect. ;) And what exactly did Frodo find among the bones in the old forest? If I know Frodo (and you) it won't be insignificant. :D *sits back and waits impatiently for the next chapter*

Breon Briarwood · 23 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Hidden Fears

YAY Scamp! Good puppy! Glad to everyone is safe and out. Now just worrying about the effect the thorns will have on Frodo... *nibbles at nails*

Ariel · 23 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Hidden Fears

Every once in a while, we have to have these less than dire angsts to entertain us and sooth the place where the mega angst ripped our hearts out. 'sOK... SB level angst is just what I need right now.

Mysterious Jedi · 16 May 2005 · Chapter 3: Hidden Dangers

Excellent, as always. I look forward to the next chapter. <>< Saved from sin through Christ, MJ

TheHobbitWaffle · 14 May 2005 · Chapter 3: Hidden Dangers

Ooo! Ooo! *Celebrates* Frodo Angst! At least a little! *Pumps fist* I don't like to think I'm evil by wanting Frodo to be ill all the time. I just think that I love him so much I have to prove it by making him ill so I can make him better!

Pearl Took · 12 May 2005 · Chapter 3: Hidden Dangers

I'm finally catching up on my reading. Well done as always. Bones in the Old Forest - a dandy mystery! Good job making use of Scamp's nose, now to get them out of there . . .

Grey Wonderer · 11 May 2005 · Chapter 3: Hidden Dangers

Yipes! Without Frodo's help Scamp will probably not come back out with them. Now what will they do? This is getting very exciting. I hope you will be posting more soon.

Grey Wonderer · 11 May 2005 · Chapter 2: Hidden Paths

Once again, Merry does not want to be left behind. So like him to want to go with Frodo. Now, I wonder what happened to that ranger and if Scamp will be able to track him in the old forest.

Grey Wonderer · 11 May 2005 · Chapter 1: Merry Meetings

Merry is wonderful in this. I love his composure and his knowledge about things that he really should know nothing about. So, a trip through the hedge now is it? This is going to be a very exciting adventure.

Lily Baggins · 10 May 2005 · Chapter 3: Hidden Dangers

Well, I'll be a pot of boiled taters if Aragorn actually manages to get the four of them out of the Old Forest as he intends. SOMETHING has to happen, right? Oh, oh, thorny branches scratching Frodo's hands---eeeeee---yes, now he won't want to leave, will he? Oh dear (at least those big rangers can CARRY him off). And of course, this leaves the door open for a little feverish Frodo later, perhaps . . . :D I adore this---especially Aragorn being all protective of Frodo. *melts*
