Denethor's determination shines through, as does his love for his sons, even distorted as his thinking might be due to Sauron's influence. Sigh. He is a tragic figure.
Author's reply
I think so too! and I believe that it was somewhat exaggerated that he may have love Boromir more. It is up to interpretation on how deeply the palantir had affected his thinking at the end. It is interesting to think about.

And now I'm wondering if Frodo's request was his way of solving Sam's problem (of being slow to propose, that is).
Lovely drabble!

Not that these are not important and the most likely, but I was kind of expecting more than three.

Thanks for the thought- what other time do you think it important to highlight?

· Chapter 69: In Memoriam (Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin)
awww...and Frodo and Sam do it too...
I wonder how long it takes for Faramir to receive that letter. Did Pippin send it at Yule?
Author's reply
Yes, that is a good question how long a letter takes from the Shire to Gondor. There must be passing company to actually bring the letter. I wonder if any fic deals with length of time from one part of Middle-earth to the other.
I'd forgotten Saeros and his fate. This adds to Turin's tragic life choices.
Author's reply
yes, time and time again, Turin makes bad choices that lead to doubt and shame. I think being sent off to Doriath and not following him was a bad choice from MOrwen as well. (a boy needs his parents!)

I imagine when he's older, his relations will brag about him "practically being born on horseback"!
I've greatly enjoyed these two drabbles set during the good times. Faramir and Éowyn have certainly earned this joy.
Author's reply
Yes, i would love to have a continuation fic about maybe him and Faramir or Eowyn reflecting about that!
Thank you- i enjoyed writing lighter times as well. :)

· Chapter 132: What Love Is (Eowyn)
This was so lovely and full of love!
I can empathize with Éowyn and not knowing what to do with this tiny and completely dependent human at first. But it sounds like Faramir is wonderfully supportive and encouraging.
Author's reply
Thanks so much! As a mom, i definitely feel some of what Eowyn feels too. :)

· Chapter 131: Overcoming the Black Breath (Merry)
Chasing sunshine indeed. As Aragorn said, "His grief will teach him wisdom"; in seeking solace in the familiar, he appears to have already gained in wisdom. Lovely! (I adore reading stories like this one about Merry...)
Author's reply
Thank you so much! yes, i love that scene in the HoH and wish for more fic showing how Merry has gained wisdom in such a short time. how the hobbits grew in this Quest is a never ending fodder for more fic. :) I love reading more about Merry too.
Poor Sam, faced with such a hopeless task, and yet determined to carry it out or die trying.
And then hope returns with the news his Master isn't dead! But also alarm, and worry, and fear... How resourceful he was! And ironically, the Ring he bore probably helped him inspire fear, greed and anger in the Orcs upon his approach, helping him achieve his aim.
Author's reply
"Choices of Samwise" was one of the most heart-wrenching chapter in the story in my opinion. When i first read it, it was in disbelief and then i read the end and Tolkien left us with a cliffhanger until Book 6! I can write more fic on Sam and his emotions because it's such an emotional time for him.
I love Sam's dedication and loyalty to Frodo shown at this time and his will to keep going is just so respected and admired.

"warmer and less cold" echoes the previous drabble, tying the two narratives together even though they reflect the thoughts of different people in different places. Nice.

· Chapter 128: The First Obstacle (Pippin)
It has been a long time since he had felt the warmth of the sun. The Barrow had left him cold ... and he felt winter lifted (by the warmth of the home and Goldberry's song).
Oh! This is a perfect gapfiller! Wonderfully done. Using "winter" to epitomize the chill of evil and the barrow-wight worked very well. I love catching glimpses inside the hobbits' heads at various points in their journeys.
Author's reply
Thank you so much! I am so glad this drabble worked with you. We seldom hear from Pippin (or any hobbit) about how he felt after the occurrence with the Barrow-wight, so i'm glad to write this gap-filler about that.

A melancholy parting that indeed helped sow his uncertainty with life. Well depicted.
"Melancholy" may be a better choice of words rather than "mellow," which usually indicates a relaxed attitude toward life.

yes that is the word i was looking for- thank you. I will edit that. Thank you for your thoughts and for the correction. :)
