'Eternity will be tasteless and very, very boring.'!! Bwahahaha! Good old Gandalf! Good grief, now I shall have to make sure I have mushrooms tomorrow after reading all those recipes.

Nilmandra · 18 March 2005 · Chapter 1: Mushroom Lore

Lovely, Werecat! I like what you did with the mushrooms. I am afraid I cannot appreciate them - too much time spent studying the Gür-carab, but it is neat to think that many cultures consider tham a delicacy. I like your Boromir too; very playful.

Author's reply

Hi, Nilmandra, and thanks for reading! I understand why you don't find mushrooms appealing, but that's fine with me (more for me, heh). And I'm glad you liked my Boromir; I had great fun writing him. Mews, Werecat

Saoirse · 18 March 2005 · Chapter 1: Mushroom Lore

O...mmMMmmm... all those recipes *do* sound delicious. I have developed a yearning for mushrooms myself while reading this, so I think I'll go whip something up! My mouth is watering from Sam's description.... I think you characterized Aragorn perfectly in this. Very good job. Thank you for this lovely (delicious) story, and I hope your diet goes well!

Author's reply

Hi, Saoirse, and thanks for reading. Have a great mushroom meal, hehe!

Alawa · 18 March 2005 · Chapter 1: Mushroom Lore

Thanks Werecat! I love a good Fellowship story. I'm glad that Bill got a treat as well.

Author's reply

Hi, Alawa, and thanks for reading. I'm glad you liked it. How could I leave poor Bill out? He's such a character!

Acacea · 17 March 2005 · Chapter 1: Mushroom Lore

That was nice! I thought it made a really beautiful interlude. It has also made me hungry:o

Author's reply

Thanks, hon! I'm glad you liked it. Mushroom cakes, anyone?

meckinock · 17 March 2005 · Chapter 1: Mushroom Lore

Hey, Werecat! I, too, read this over at HASA and was thrilled to find out you wrote it (I did not guess as such since it was filled with canon characters.) I really enjoyed seeing the Fellowship enjoying a bit of comaraderie and quiet time to dispel their worries and weariness.

Author's reply

Hi, Meckinock! Thanks for reading! LOL, I guess it's very unusual of me to write stories without *any* original character in it. The typos didn't give you a clue? ;) Thanks again, Werecat

Lackwit · 17 March 2005 · Chapter 1: Mushroom Lore

Very funny source of inspiration that I can totally empathize on *snicker* Heavens, now *I* want some mushrooms (which I do love as well). Wonderfully written; I particularly liked Aragorn's bittersweet reminiscence.

Author's reply

Hi, Lackwit, and thanks for reading! Always good to hear from another mushroom enthousiast, lol! Werecat

Christina · 17 March 2005 · Chapter 1: Mushroom Lore

This was great. A nice fill story that ties the Fellowship closer. And now I'm really looking forward to the portobello I bought! I think I will roast it with garlic and olive oil C

Author's reply

Heh, I too had mushroom cravings after I wrote that! Thanks for reading, Christina!

Bodkin · 17 March 2005 · Chapter 1: Mushroom Lore

Lovely. Although Legolas is deprived - no mushrooms in Mirkwood? I should think they could set up a mushroom farm in the cellars that open onto the river. Bilbo would have seen the potential. Some hobbit should suggest it. Merry and Pippin make good foragers.

Author's reply

Thanks, Bodkin! The mushroom farm is a VERY good idea, one that certainly deserves its own story. Thanks for reading, Werecat

daw the minstrel · 17 March 2005 · Chapter 1: Mushroom Lore

I read this at HASA but had to tell you again how much I enjoyed it. I thought this short scene showed so much about the Fellowship and the cultures they came from.

Author's reply

Hi, Daw, and thanks for reading. I'm glad you liked it. :)

elliska · 17 March 2005 · Chapter 1: Mushroom Lore

This was wonderful. I expected to see the hobbits discussing them and was pleasantly surprised when Boromir told his little story--that part was very well done. But I was just thrilled when Gimli chimed in. That was completely unexpected and in character. I love how a little discussion of mushrooms shows so much about the fellowship. Great job.

Author's reply

Hi, Elliska, and thanks for reading. I've found that Gimli is so fun to write about, that I'm actually considering writing a story about him. Anyway, thanks for reading. I'm glad you liked it. :) Werecat

The Karenator · 17 March 2005 · Chapter 1: Mushroom Lore

I loved this scene. You captured the fun of the moment while giving us a look at the different customs of men, elves, dwarves and hobbits...and a wizard. Funny how shared food can bring us all together. I liked that everyone was willing to try preparations of the mushrooms other than what they were used to. I was pleased that Legolas didn't turn his nose up at the mushrooms considering his experience with 'death-hats'. The mushrooms of his home would make anyone think twice about consuming 'any' sort of mushroom. Cooperation of the Fellowship in such a simple thing showed us how open they were becoming with one another. Just delightful. Karen

Author's reply

Hi, Karen, and thanks for reading. Apart from my diet, inspiration for this fic came from watching my cats eating. I thought if food brings *them* together, what would it do to the Fellowship? And, of course, I love mushrooms... Thanks again for reading, Werecat

shirebound · 17 March 2005 · Chapter 1: Mushroom Lore

I loved this! "On the Quest" fics, especially with the whole Fellowship bonding and sharing, are some of my favorite stories to read. I'm not wild about mushrooms myself, but the way you write about them makes me hungry!

Author's reply

Thanks, Shirebound! Truth be told, Fellowship stories are not my usual subject, but, as a true mushroom enthousiast, I *had* to write this. Thanks for reading, Werecat

Larner · 17 March 2005 · Chapter 1: Mushroom Lore

Oh, I love the subject and the writing. Well, well done. Felt I was sitting there with them, and missed only the smell of the mushrooms cooking.

Author's reply

Thanks, Larner! I'm glad you liked it! Werecat

Dreamflower · 16 March 2005 · Chapter 1: Mushroom Lore

Oh this is nice! I do love fics with food in them. This is almost a recipe fic! And my favorite part of the Quest--before Caradhras and Moria! What a lovely combination! Thank you!

Author's reply

Thanks, Dreamflower! Yes, I guess you could say this is a "recipe" fic, lol! Thanks for reading!
