Once again, how lovely. Luthien certainly helped carry on the tale of tales, the one that in the end caught up Hobbits of the Shire into the doings of the great and mighty, and she did it for love.

Absolutely fantastic! I love the rhythm and word-choice here, as well as the unique perspective on Gimli. Dwaves and poetry often don't seem to work well together, but here I thought they fit wonderfully. Excellent work.
Author's reply
Thanks Adonnen! After reading Gimli's description of the Caves, there could be no doubt in my mind that he had poetry in his soul. Which perhaps made him unique among dwarves!

Thank you Shirebound! Had this bunny in my head for a long time, I think it was Larner who put it there in the first place! So it was only fitting that it finally came out for her.

· Chapter 26: To Be Alone (Galadriel)
I have returned to this poem often in the long time since I first read it, and I cannot accurately describe to you the depth of my admiration for this work. As someone whose favorite character(s) tend to be written about rather rarely, I really appreciate how well you captured such a profound part of who I think is such an amazing character. The second stanza is, in my opinion, so striking in its frankness and so well crafted overall, and it leaves me with just the right kind of feeling after reading a lovely, yet melancholy, poem. Well done.

Been a really long time since this was posted, but wow! I had to review. It was lovely, so lyrical, and your descriptions had a unique beauty of their own. Though decidedly freeverse, I still feel that it could fit in quite well with Tolkien's own writings. Lovely! :)

Thanks Violin Ghost! I really need to get back into the swing...maybe I will one of these days.......
Thanks for reviewing!

Those- all of them- were amazing. Wonderful images and writing. I just had a thought, though- would it be possible for you to reorder them so that they went in the order that they occured in?
Author's reply
Hi Mairi, thanks for reviewing! Well, I don't think I could reorder them without losing all the reviews and hit counts, etc. and besides, the collection is open to being added onto at any time the mood and the muse strikes me, so the order in which they now appear is simply the order in which they were written. On my website, however, I do have them grouped according to which character is speaking and on each character's page, they do appear in order of occurrance. (Which reminds me, I need to add some of them on soon!)
Thanks once again for the feedback!

Now, that is right between erotic and esoteric! Very interesting imagery there.
Author's reply
Could you tell I'd been reading Neruda? "Right between erotic and esoteric" describes his love poetry perfectly. I was making a wallpaper and wanted a poem for it, or some lines from one, but I wished for one by a female poet this time, and was puzzling over where to find an appropriate one. Then I said to myself, "Well, YOU'RE a female poet, aren't you? Write one yourself!" So I did! lol

Man, where do you come up with such beautiful things? Poetry came much easier to me when I was a Star Wars fanatic but it doesn't now. What a loving tribute not only to Gandalf and his gifts but one of the greatest gifts Iluvatar bestowed upon Bilbo and all Middle-earth.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Doesn't come easy to me, Dearie;) and I think I got the idea of this one from you, at least indirectly, when I teased you about having something about Gandalf's fireworks in your story...then I thought, well, why don't I write a piece about the fireworks--so there you have it! lol I was also thinking about Sam's remark that there should have been a verse about the fireworks in the Elves' lament, and he came up with one himself which wasn't very good and he knew it...and so I thought to make one also. Glad it ended up being a halfway decent effort! And I bet you can make nice poetry, it just takes practice, lots of it, and a lot of reading of good poetry and some study of the mechanics. C'mon, you can do it;);)

· Chapter 6: The Bridge (Sam)
I've been meaning to review this for ages. It is one of the most beautiful poems I've ever read and expresses the sentiment perfectly. How wonderful that Sam can sometimes 'visit' Frodo - truly a gift from the Valar I think.
Now I must ask you something. I have a story (half-written) which was inspired by this story, but obviously I ask your permission before posting. It sprang into my head the first time I read this poem and would not let go.
Author's reply
Ooo wow, thanks! I always had a problem with those two not having any communication whatsoever and just had to come up with a way...perhaps Irmo Lord of Dreams might have had a hand in arranging occasional "visits" for them, although I felt that such could have its risks as well, rather like too many sleeping pills or pick-me-ups, they could get addictive and should be used very sparingly and only at need.
Please do post your story, I would love to see it. And if it wouldn't let go, then most likely it was meant to be. I'm flattered to be the inspiration!
Thanks once more!

Last year it was Bodkin who made my day with Frodo represented by a great firework; this year it's you.
Thank you for this tribute to our Fourth and Bilbo and Frodo's glorious legacy of transient yet lasting beauty.
Author's reply
Why, you are most welcome, and thank YOU for the comments! I don't remember ever reading such a thing by Bodkin, but I would like very much to see it. (Bodkin does write beautifully!) I liked the idea of someone's inner magic being symbolized by the exuberant liberation of flaming colors and shapes across the night sky that fill viewers with childlike delight. Just wish I'd come up with it sooner, but promptness has never been any longsuit of mine, unfortunately..........
Thanks once more!

An interesting juxtaposition of two of Bilbo's loves. I know I can never get enough of either one of them!
In line 6, did you want "candies" or "candles"?
Author's reply
Yes, that's "candies"...although I suppose "candles" could work also. I thought "sky candy" or "eye candy" in terms of fireworks, along with the "toys of flame" that delight both children and adults.
I think I can't get enough either!:D Thanks for commenting.

· Chapter 42: My Treasure (Sam)
A loving reunion anticipated. Sam has written about his treasure, now you'll need to write about Frodo anticipating his. :) Love the idea of the treasure chest of memories and knocking each other over in their joy, hearts bumping into each other and the ending. Of course there would be no hesitation there or lack of recognition. How can you not recognize your heart and soul as it runs to you and you to it? Have you read Hope by Trilliah? It's much like this.
Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Thanks for the idea;) although I dare say Frodo would have said pretty much the same things...perhaps in more sophisticated diction, since in my universe he is a poet. I may have read Hope by Trilliah--title or name seems familiar--but don't remember. I've read scadoodles of stories and poems on the subjecto f the Reunion, and will probably eventually write my own....and you KNOW my take on it will be vastly different from the others;)
This one was really for you, y'know:D Probably should have said so but what the heck.

· Chapter 42: My Treasure (Sam)
This one has me weeping, and I mean that literally, Armariel. I can so see this, just as I have imagined Sam murmuring, over and over, "Oh, my Frodo" as that meeting comes ever and ever closer, and as they each offer the treasure chests of memories to one another, and as Frodo once again knows the great, enduring pleasure of being a Hobbit of the Shire, though he left that Shire so long ago.
Thank you for this one.
Author's reply
Wow, I love when I have that effect--don't you? You are most welcome Dearie! I admit I cheated a little with this one. I stole a bit from a poem I wrote for my best friend a few years ago as a birthday gift. Decided that poem was a little too feminine in its viewpoint for Sam, however, so I just put in the part about the treasure box. I think this one is better, however:
Our Jewels
When we meet again
it will be like the first time
even if we are much older
we’ll still see with young eyes
that penetrate the lacy wall
which veils you from my sight.
Through that snowy curtain
I’ll step into your gaze
the silver air around us
will shiver with delight.
Once more we’ll walk
through innocent grass
in a warm and singing wood
past yards all wreathed in wonder
on paths that kiss our feet.
We’ll look at each new flower
while the lacy curtains
dance in the joyful breeze
and fairies giggle in the mist.
A treasure box we’ll open
examining every gem
holding each up to the light
saying, "Do you remember this?"
The colors will laugh with us.
The day will linger stubbornly
like a child that would stay up all night.
But if we do not meet again
if the day is not to be ours
our hearts will still grasp through the lace
ignoring the chains and the miles.
We’ll tend each other’s flowers
and shine on each new bloom
stars will continue to twinkle
on each hour of our meeting
for midnight cannot darken
the colors of our jewels.

· Chapter 41: White are the Stars (Frodo)
Oh, how appropriate for Frodo as he has found himself once more, and as he rejoices once more to find life worth living!
I'm sorry I don't know that particular hymn--I'll have to seek it out and see if I can find it.
Author's reply
Yes, I considered the hymn his ultimate celebration of his new life and wonder at his new-found joy and faith. I wanted to fit it to "Brightest and Best" which has long been one of my favorite carols but it wouldn't quite work that way. Here are the words (Sorry there's no music file, maybe I can make one soon.):
Brightest and Best

· Chapter 40: To the One Far Away (Sam)
How very gentle this one. That Sam might think Frodo would feel bereft and lost is a great grief; and it could also easily be said by Frodo of his beloved Bilbo or even Rosie of her Sam, somewhere that one Yule, lost out there in the fearful wilderness she has heard tell of outside the boundaries of the Shire.
Very lovely.
Author's reply
Yes, by any of them, surely. I said it myself of my niece one Christmas when she was seemingly lost to us, but she has been found again. Still far away, but now we know where she is and that she will come back again.
Thanks bunches!
