Ah, yes, now *this* is the Frodo I remember from the book. Firm, loving, intelligent, courageous... And Sam! Good old practical Sam, ever on the quest for rope. Ah, Gimli is here too, and in his element! He sounds very like himself. Legolas, welcome! Yes, you sound very like book-Legolas, I'm glad to observe. Oops. Frodo, you ought not to have mentioned that boulder...

Author's reply

*Snort* - Yep, you knew I couldn't get away with out 'some' Froangst, didn't you?

Lindelea · 21 February 2005 · Chapter 3: Chapter 3

O hurrah! How did I miss your adding chapter 2? No matter... I'll just go back and look into the matter now.

Mysterious Jedi · 20 February 2005 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Hmm, I'm sure Aragorn will do a a good job healing them, but hopefully with lots of angst and hurt/comfort ;)

Author's reply

Aragorn is so very good at that - and I hope there's enough h/c for you - there will definitely be enough angst - I do have a reputation to consider. ;)

Gentle Hobbit · 19 February 2005 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

No! You can't leave us here, dangling like this! Please, please hurry with the next chapter... *whimper* ... I do love the way you have Frodo as the active, assessing and competent caregiver, for all that he too was and is in danger. There's not enough caregiver!Frodo around.

Author's reply

Oh, I have to agree with that! And what is astonishing is that, in the book, he is most decidedly THE elder, the organizer and in command of the other hobbits. They may care deeply for him, but he is definitely their leader. Unfortunately, though PJ's film does show a little of that, most fanfiction is written to address the overwhelmingly apparent pitiable aspect of EW's characterization. While it has its appeal, I can't help but salivate for that face, bod and manner in a more bookishly brave, selfless, wise and mature Frodo. Kinda like the one I've seen you write. ;) Pardon while I go get my bib... :D

Arwen Baggins · 19 February 2005 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Well, you've got yourself in a pickel and no mistake, Miss Ariel! Now why don't you just go on and fix those lads up right nice. On you go, now.

Author's reply

I will post haste! Thanks for reading and letting me know you liked it!

pebbles66 · 19 February 2005 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

I am so glad to see this story here. I read it in Marigold's challenge, but it wasn't completed. Now I'm ready for more, soon please!

Author's reply

Well, it is now completed - thank you for following the story and for letting me know you liked it! That's the only payment we author's get!

Inkling · 19 February 2005 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Oh, lovely, some Frodo angst in this chapter! And why do I feel so sure there will be more? ;) I love that Frodo still thinks of big, hulking Merry as “his little cousin”! The vision was very nice, but I was wondering about that asterisk after “corn”…I went to the end of the chapter thinking it was a footnote, but apparently not…?

Author's reply

I do like my strong Frodo - and of course Merry would still be the 'little' cousin! Hehehe! Oh, thank you for catching that footnote! I completely forgot to add it in! It's now fixed in all versions! * - The term 'corn', in this instance, is used as Europeans do and refers to a wheat crop, not maize.

Elwen · 18 February 2005 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

What a great idea for a story. I love it. And here was I thinking you were winding down to an ending and you throw that last bit at us. I hope you're not boing to keep us . . . or Frodo . . . hanging on for too long.

Author's reply

Muhahahahha... this was one of those fics that grew a bit longer than expected. Hope you don't mind! ;) I held off posting any of this till I had the whole thing done so there won't be any delays (other than those RL is throwing at me!).

Elendiari22 · 18 February 2005 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Angst! Torment! Don't leave us hanging now, I must find out what happens! This is an excellent chapter, and I'm so releived that they're out of the chimney. Interesting, that they were pulled up the flu.

Author's reply

LOL! For some odd reason, I had that idea from the beginning - don't ask me why! I am pleased you are enjoying it and I will happily post the next installment as soon as I can.

lovethosehobbits · 18 February 2005 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Arrrrhhhh!! I love this soooo much, but this cliffy will be the death of me. Hope this has oodles of chapters so I can read it until Im sated. (not possible, btw) tree

Author's reply

I learned the art of the cliffhanger from the mistress of them - Budgielover. hehehe And I hope this has enough chapters for you! I couldn't make them too injured because they have a wedding to go to in a month! In any case, there are many opportunites for angst left in the story - and I will never be out of good bunnies...

Bodkin · 18 February 2005 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Phew, they're out! Elves and dwarves are handy characters to have around in a pinch. If you can't get a Sam. But Frodo and Merry do seem a little the worse for wear.

Author's reply

Yes, they certainly are! Though I'm a hobbity sort, I can appreciate both an elvish aire and a dwarvish arm! Thanks for reading!

Elvenesse · 18 February 2005 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

I'm enjoying this fic! And the hobbits are nicely in character.

Author's reply

Oh, thank you! It is so great to be appreciated for something I pride myself on!

esamen · 18 February 2005 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

"Though his dear master had come through trials the like of which would have killed even most hobbits, there were still times when he seemed as delicate as china cup; fragile and too fine for everyday. He seemed to possess that quality that made you stop and stare at elves, but in a hobbit it seemed even more rare and precious. Not even dear Mr. Bilbo had seemed so otherworldly. " Oh, there's my bright one. I still love him after all these years. I hope this is a nice long story. You have an awesome touch with Frodo fics and a whole lotta talent for telling a good yarn. Thanks for posting Chapter Two, and I'll be watching for Chapter Three -- if we're on our way to Ariel's h/c heaven then we're just getting to the good part as far as I'm concerned!

Author's reply

*eek* Oh, dear! Well, I wrote it as a 5 chapter fic - and it could have been angstier - but I had things I wanted to have the characters say and think that were... um... tough for them to do while prone! But rest assured, I have LOTS of angst bunnies left - and seeing the response this one has gotten, will HAVE to resurrect a few more of them!

Starfire_Moonlight · 18 February 2005 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

This is a good, no great story! Merry and Frodo trapped in a chimmney in the White City, wow. And the way you left us, was no fair. Please write more soon! :D

Author's reply

I most certainly will. And thank you for your very encouraging review! I aim to entertain and from the response I have gotten for this fic so far, it seems I have. It's a great feeling knowing that!

Hai Took · 18 February 2005 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

Oh dear! First Merry and now Frodo! Poor Sam who had been sitting right there! And to have seen Merry hauled out of the chimeney already in such a dire condition. Looking forward to more, and finding out how much they both have been harmed.

Author's reply

Well, the do call me the Angst Maven for good reason...hehehe! Thank you for continuing to read!

illyria · 18 February 2005 · Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Ariel, I love this!!!! I love the details, and suspense, but most of all...it's Frodo's who's giving the care now, and that's a very welcome change that I truly appreciate. And when he sang to Merry! *swoons* Thanks for this, Ariel! :) BTW. The illo rocks. No pun intended. *gazes in awe*

Author's reply

*grin* I have such a passion for strong Frodo and far too few people write him! I agree, a very welcome change!

Anso the Hobbit · 18 February 2005 · Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Oh, you`ve posted it here too! I do love this story, but I suppose you know that, lol. :)

Author's reply

And I am so delighted that you do! It was written for you, you know!

Lily the Hobbit · 18 February 2005 · Chapter 2: Chapter 2

What a great story! Poor, brave Frodo.

Author's reply

Ah, yes, those ARE my favorite words to describe him!

pipinheart · 18 February 2005 · Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Nice... Merry and Frodo trapped, and waiting on rescue. Merry is hurt as is frodo. Frod trys to keep Merry warm as he is hurt worse...Please continue, this is great...

Author's reply

Your wish is my command!

trishette · 17 February 2005 · Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Beautifully written! I hope to see more from you soon! :-)

Author's reply

Wow! Another one! I think this is the MOST reviews I have ever had on a story! Wow! Thank you! I am posting the next part tonight - stay tuned!

Hai Took · 17 February 2005 · Chapter 1: Chapter 1

I must have missed this story on the Challenge page. It takes me quite a while to get through them and I must have thought I read this one when I didn't! Anyway, I'm enjoying it now! Some good h/c is sometimes very nice! Merry and Frodo and certainly in a bit of trouble! I hope that the guard hurries! It's a good thing the guards and Sam weren't trapped as well, that certainly would have been a task! Looking forward to the rest, I will probably continue reading it here as I don't think I will be able to go back as I'm trying to slowly, but steadily make it through the Challenge 13 stories!

Author's reply

as I'm trying to slowly, but steadily make it through the Challenge 13 stories! *Salutes Hai for her diligence!* I know exactly what you mean! I don't think I have ever managed to get through all the fics in a challenge, but it sure is fun trying! I am pleased to see you caught this one now - and hope you enjoy the rest! Stay tuned!

Inkling · 17 February 2005 · Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Well Ariel, this wasn’t the next story of yours I was planning to read, but there it was on the SoA home page, so… Sometimes proximity trumps priority, I guess! It’s nice to see Frodo on the comfort end for a change… My favorite line: “Frodo had always been the strong one, never sick, always confident, responsible and competent.” YES—Strong Frodo lives! Claustrophobia, eek—one of my own worst nightmares! Good thing it was a Man-sized fireplace, or two hobbits could never have fit!

Author's reply

Oh, you know me and strong Frodo! Angst is much better when the subject is hale and whole - even if the opportunites for it are fewer. Oh, I know what you mean about claustrophobia - eek! And since Merry's gotten to be such a big hobbit, he almost doesn't! Will post the next chapter tonight (I hope).

Mysterious Jedi · 16 February 2005 · Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Oh, how I love h/c!

Author's reply

Preach it, sistah! :*

Bodkin · 16 February 2005 · Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Great story. Look forward to reading it all over again!

Author's reply

*grin* And it now has an ending! Yeah! I plan on putting the whole thing up as soon as I have the last chapter back from the beta. Thanks for your support!

lovethosehobbits · 16 February 2005 · Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Oh My God!! She's back!!! I have been thinking alot about you the last few months wondering what had so rudely taken you from us. It is so good to see you back here again and a new story taboot! Love this fic already .... your gift for capturing and holding your audience has not left you. You have been sorely missed but now I hope we will be hearing and reading more of you. tree

Author's reply

*HUGGLES Tree!* I was actually not gone, just trying to get this silly thing finished before I posted it. I am so bloody slow! LOL! I was also trying to get caught up on some fics I have fallen sorely behind on (like yours!) but I will be posting the rest of this very soon, as soon as I have the last chapter back from my beta!
