What a promising beginning. Interesting that Pippin is making the time to see this old fount of hobbit history--not something that would not have been as important in his much younger days, but now, after Frodo and the Quest, would be very important to him. He knows now how vital it is that history not be forgotten. And I know why he has to be in Buckland by the 15th of March. Poor Merry! It's a good thing that Pippin and Ferdi have an underlying affection--otherwise, they are so much alike they would irritate each other to death. I don't envy the other hobbit of the escort this little expedition. Which one do you suppose would win a stubborn contest?

Mmm. Might be a toss-up. They're both Tooks, and "Took" appears in my thesaurus under synonyms for "stubborn". Maybe I ought to make the date (in the chapter) the 14th! But then, Pippin would undoubtedly strive to arrive a day or two early anyhow. No one would speculate about that, knowing how close he and Merry are. Thanks for commenting! The other stories are on hold at the moment--this one wrote itself very quickly in draft, and so I will be posting chapters at least until the Muse starts whispering new chapters of the other stories...
