"I do not wish to discuss this." LOL, that was great. Legolas gets duped. He'll think twice before underestimating - or taking pity on - that Took again.
Author's reply
If only he'd known. LOL Thanks for reviewing this. Glad you liked it.
Poor Legolas. Centuries of being an elven warrior has not prepared him for exposure to hobbits. Especially not Pippin. And he has the joy of knowing that the elven part of the audience really will remember the incident for ever.
Author's reply
Yes, sadly if you mess up in front of elves, your witnesses are NEVER going to let you live it down. Maybe they will be less inclined to tease once a few of them have had dealings with a hobbit or two.

How cruel - sacrificing their kindly cousin Frodo to the demands of their bellies. I shouldn't be surprised to find him getting his own back at some point. (They just shouldn't all be so cute. Then the aunties would leave them alone!)
Author's reply
I have a few relatives that I used to try to avoid at family gatherings as a child and since hobbits have such large, extended families, I suspected that they might have at least one or two relatives like that. (Bilbo and the Sackville Baggins's came to mind.) So, I figured that they might sacrifice almost anyone to avoid spending time with certain relatives and naturally, no one should get between a hobbit and his dinner! Frodo was too trusting and also of too much interest to the old birds. LOL

*snickers* I would love to see how Frodo gets back at them, lol! Purely evil of them to do that to him. But they'll do anything for food won't they.
Author's reply
Yes, those two would do almost anything for food. Glad this gave you a laugh and at some point I just might have to write Frodo's revenge for this one. So many of these little stories gave me little plot bunnies but I have no clue how many of those bunnies will become stories.

You know I'll read it anyway if Grey Wonderer had anything to do with writing a story! You are so talented! I love the humor you pour into portraying your Merry and Pippin!

Like I have always said, my hobbits talk too much as so this was not a problem for me. It's the rest of these things that I have trouble with. Glad it made you laugh and thanks to you, I am already out of kleenex. (Roses) Thanks for the review. You know that brilliant is one of my favorite words.

Lol! You managed to come up with an impressive number of bird references. Hm, if I was Frodo, I'd be plotting out my revenge, even while sitting with the Old Lasses. Merry and Pippin deserve some severe retribution for that little trick. :)
Author's reply
Oh, I am very sure that Frodo will find a way to get even at some point. As to all of the bird references, well, they practically flew onto the page! LOL Thanks for the review!

How sad! And very eloquent! I love his descriptions of his cousins and friends, and his reassurances to himself that they will be fine and look out for each other once he's gone, as well as his realization that he is the one breaking the circle. Well done.

Thank you for this lovely review. I am almost never serious and so I do worry when I am trying to be. Thank you for reading and it is very good to hear that the descriptions worked.

Hey, speaking of, where is Sam? I hope he comes into some of these. Poor Pippin. He should have watched Ellen last week, she had a lady on her show who could do over 200 bird calls. It was amazing.
Author's reply
My mom loves Ellen! I just bet she saw that one too. I love bird calls and birds and as for Sam, he does turn up, but I am always worried about how I am writing him. I nver feel quite as comfortable with him as I do some of the other characters. Sam and Aragorn worry me. I try them both, but only in small bits because I am afraid of not getting the character just right. I love your Sam! You have him down perfectly. Thanks for the review!

· Chapter 1: A Partridge in a Pear Tree
LOL, oh poor Merry! Chained to his cousin around some trees. Whatever will he think of next? But I'm a bit confused. Are they in the trees? On the ground? Obviously, they aren't in a position where they could climb over to each other and get out that way. Hm, that's a pickle. And I agree, that partridge should poop on Pippin's head. He deserves it. :)
Author's reply
I was trying to use 'pair of trees' for 'a pear tree' in this one. LOL Without any description, it is a bit hard to tell just where they are, but Merry is standing beside of 'a pair of rather large trees with a small space between them and the chain is running between the trees to where Pippin is standing. I probably should have had one of them say this in some form. LOL
And yes, I also agree with Merry as to what the partridge should do to Pippin. This was not a well-thought-out practical joke.

· Chapter 5: Five Golden Rings
I love the symbolism you've chosen for the five rings. Particularly the bond between the five hobbits, and the examination of each of their personalities. You've really captured each of them so well with just a few words.
Author's reply
Thank you. I don't often do serious, but this time it seemed to fit. Dreamflower pointed out to me that in the Ring poem, five is actually the only odd number between one and ten not mentioned, 1 ring, 3 elvin rings, 7 rings for the dwarf lords, and nine for kings of men, but no five. I have no idea why, but it made me have to go in another direction on this one. So glad that you liked it!

Lol! Pippin's plans just never come together in quite the way he intends, do they? I love the all dialogue approach, btw. :)

After all the light-hearted chapters that preceded this, this chapter has double the impact. Sensitively written, faithful to canon, with lovely characterisations.

Charming!
Isn't it funny how small children turn things around or understand things differently?
Author's reply
They take everything at face value with no black or white involved. If it's a bird call, then you must be able to use it to call birds and they will come to you. Another case of Pippin seeing things in his own way. Thanks for the review!

· Chapter 3: Three French Hens
So they kept saying 'we', did they?
On a previous point - perhaps it's a GOOD thing that Merry spent so much time with Pippin, since it cut into his and Frodo's drinking time.
I should think they would happily gift him with a hangover at the moment - if they didn't know that Eglantine would chop them into little pieces.
Author's reply
We was the only French word that I could manage to work into Merry's dream. I realize it isn't spelled correctly, but Merry's French is a bit weak. Poor Merry, forced to stay in trouble because of one cousin or the other. LOL I think he got even with Frodo at least at the end of this one. At least Merry had the satisfation of knowing that he had thrown up on Pippin's foot. LOL
