i JUST DISCOVERED THIS STORY. i HAVE YOU ON AUTHOR NOTIFICATION AND FOLLOWED A LINK FROM YOUR NEWEST ONE TO THIS. This is lovely. Lyrical, shining descriptions full of warm light. You wonderfully capture their thoughts and emotions. I enjoyed all four chapters very much.

Author's reply

I'm very happy you decided to have a look at this story as well, since it is very dear to me. And I'm even happier to hear you enjoyed it. Thank you very much.

You make me cry with that beautiful ending! I don't know how you do it, how you can make one long look into each other's eyes such a fascinating moment, such an intense experience. Yes, you've already guessed it, that look Frodo and Pip shared was my favourite scene, the way you described them opening up to each other and showing each other what was on their minds. Wonderful! Sorry for not reviewing for so long...but I did start now and I'll try to catch up with all your updates I missed.

Author's reply

I love that last look Frodo and Pippin share as well. It took me a lot of time to descripe it but I am really happy with the outcome. I'm very glad you liked it.

harrowcat · 19 June 2005 · Chapter 4: Grey Havens

I really loved your story Lily. Too many bits to mention now but your Pippin is great. And thank you for putting the scene between Gandalf and Merry and Pippin into words. You are the first that I have seen do so and I found the reactions of the two hobbits to be very realistic.

Author's reply

Thanks a lot! The scene with Gandalf took me a long time to write. I felt that it needed to be shown and yet I was not quite sure how to do that. I'm glad you found it believable.

Dreamflower · 17 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Grey Havens

These have been lovely. I like the way you have Pippin realizing that Frodo must find his healing elsewhere, and understanding finally that is the way it must be. So hard, so sad, for them to lose their cousin--yet comforting to know that all will finally be well for him.

Author's reply

This has been a very difficult moment to write, especially since I can barely imagine how hard it must be for them to lose their cousin the way they did. I'm glad you like the outcome, though.

Larner · 15 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Grey Havens

Yes, this is the reality of dealing with PTSD, of knowing that kind of scouring from the inside out. A gentle and necessary look at what Frodo went through, and the youngest's reaction to it.

Author's reply

Thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed it.

Armariel · 15 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Grey Havens

*sniff* Lovely...you have done a great job of writing from Pippin's p.o.v. The part where he's teasing the unconscious Sam about his birthday was cute and unexpected. Very wonderful, keep it up. blessings & cheer Armariel~~~~{~@

Author's reply

I enjoyed writting from Pippin's POV a lot. Glad you like it.

shirebound · 15 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Grey Havens

I'm just speechless at how utterly beautiful this is, Lily! "And there was Frodo, ebony curls shimmering in the sparkling sunlight and in his eyes there was joy. A great burden was taken from Pippin's heart and amidst his tears he began to laugh" This story is especially meaningful because it's from Pippin's point of view -- and we learn as much about Pippin as we do about Frodo. Well done, my friend. This was wonderful. The Light shines through every facet of this jewel of a story.

Author's reply

Thank you so much! You couldn't have found any words that would have made me happier than what you just said. This story is very dear to me, especially because it deals with Pippin and Frodo - my two favourite hobbits, and I'm glad I have been able to share my picture of the two of them.

SlightlyTookish · 15 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Grey Havens

Beautiful final chapter! I love how Frodo and Pippin's bond is so great that they don't need words. I especially love how Pippin thinks about how Frodo has not regained his former strength and happiness, and that by going west he would be healed. You really show a mature Pippin here who can be friends with Frodo and not just a baby cousin. Great work, Lily! :)

Author's reply

Thanks a lot! I wanted to show that Pippin was not only a silly billy but also a thoughtful and mature young hobbit. I'm glad you liked it.

Andrea · 15 May 2005 · Chapter 4: Grey Havens

Wow! I'm speechless! That was beautiful! I will always remember that smile! When I first saw it watching "The Return of the King", it washed away my last doubts and I thought, he will be healed, and I smiled back :)

Author's reply

It was the same with me. I still can't do else but smile back when I watch that scene. I'm very glad you enjoyed this.

Hobbit Lass21 · 2 May 2005 · Chapter 1: Crickhollow

Oh this is very lovely...I like to see the relationship between the hobbits deepened. It must be quite interesting to see all of someone through their eyes. Eyes are windows to the soul, especially Frodo's.....

Author's reply

Eyes certainly are windows to the sould. Other people's eyes are very important to me which is probably why they are often mentioned in my stories :)

Lotrgirl1415 · 4 April 2005 · Chapter 3: Field of Cormallen

I really am enjoying this story! Do continue darling! --Katielotrgirl1415@yahoo.com

Author's reply

I'm glad you do :) Thanks for reading.

SlightlyTookish · 3 April 2005 · Chapter 3: Field of Cormallen

What a wonderful chapter! I love how you presented a mature Pippin here, and showed his love for Frodo and Sam and he visits them, and how he chatters away to them. I also enjoyed Merry's attempt to comfort Pippin at the end. Such a sweet story :)

Author's reply

Thank you so much! I love to show the relationship between the hobbits and this story allowed me to do just that in a way I never have done before.

Desidera · 2 April 2005 · Chapter 3: Field of Cormallen

Ohh, that was so sad!!! Quite a long way from the past two chapters - which just shows how far they have gone and how much they have changed. Yes, Pippin too. I love how you captured him being torn between the sorrow he has learned to know and his cheerful Hobbit nature that always finds a little joke to make. I also love that one paragraph where he looks at Frodo and is suddenly reminded of what he said at the beginning of their journey - and how it has suddenly become true. Awesome chapter!

Author's reply

Thank you so much! With this story I really wanted to show how much Pippin grew during the quest and I'm glad you're pointing it out.

Ariel · 1 April 2005 · Chapter 3: Field of Cormallen

*Reads through* *blushes* (Did you use all of them? Wow! Thank you! That is your most generous praise.) *Bows*

Author's reply

As I said on YIM I discovered many of my mistakes only when I compared it with the betaed version. Things where I now think, how could I?. And I am glad you pointed these things out. Still, no, I have not used all of it :) There is a whole paragraph not cut :)

Dreamflower · 1 April 2005 · Chapter 3: Field of Cormallen

This is such a sweet and bittersweet look at Pippin's care for Frodo. I love the way he goes to Sam first, dreading to look at Frodo, and the way he thanks Sam:"I want to thank you, Sam," he whispered almost voicelessly, "not only for following Frodo, but also for taking care of him. Though I haven't looked at him yet, your face tells me a lot of what you have been through together and I want to thank you for being his strength." Then his shocked reaction to Frodo's appearance, and yet the hope he found:Pippin could feel the soft light shining from him. It was the light of love, compassion, mercy, goodwill, curiosity and understanding. It was Frodo's light; a radiance Pippin had first seen as a child, snuggled close to his elder cousin on his first visit to Bag End, his first night away from home. He had forgotten about it and yet the light had always been there, emanating from Frodo like an invisible essence. Somehow it comes as no surprise to me that Pippin could see the light in Frodo. I've always felt that Frodo and Pippin were much alike, and that if Frodo's life had not been tempered by the sorrow of his parents' deaths, his personality would have been much like the irrepressible Pippin's.

I'm happy you're enjoying this story. Thanks a lot for reading! I've always felt that Frodo and Pippin were much alike, and that if Frodo's life had not been tempered by the sorrow of his parents' deaths, his personality would have been much like the irrepressible Pippin's. This is exactly what I feel and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks so :)

Andrea · 1 April 2005 · Chapter 3: Field of Cormallen

"It was the light of love, compassion, mercy, goodwill, curiosity and understanding. It was Frodo's light." What a perfect description of Frodo, summed up in few words - and every word is fitting! I'm glad the light is still there. Thank you!

Author's reply

It has been a pleasure to write this story and I am happy if it delights you.

Lindelea · 1 April 2005 · Chapter 1: Crickhollow

A nice little scene between the cousins. You have a gift for description: Silver moonlight bathed the pale face and ebony curls hid wistful eyes. In his heart he had already said his farewells, locked away the treasured memories and planted a seedling of hope for a possible return. With a dart Pippin got to his feet and allowed Frodo to put an arm around his shoulders as they made their way swiftly back into the house and, for now, locked out the darkness and troubles that awaited them. This sounded so hobbity: "Besides, you are not going to have an adventure without me!" he declared. And this sounded just like Pippin to me: He had to admit that he had felt just the tiniest bit uncomfortable when so much emotion was exposed to him. It is a little "side" of deep-down honesty that adds a "real" feeling to the writing.

Author's reply

Knowing that you like Pippin's character makes me especially happy that you have pointed out so many lines you enjoyed. Thanks for reading!

"It was Frodo's light; a radiance Pippin had first seen as a child, snuggled close to his elder cousin on his first visit to Bag End, his first night away from home. He had forgotten about it and yet the light had always been there, emanating from Frodo like an invisible essence." This is beautiful! A lovely take on Pippin's feelings - I'm so glad he saw something of the old Frodo that could comfort him. I loved all the things he said out loud to Frodo too, so hobbity and Pippinish to use light words when he's been thinking such deep thoughts. :)

Author's reply

I'm glad you liked it. It was my first try to write from Pippin's POV and at times it was quite difficult to think of what he would say in a moment like this.

shirebound · 1 April 2005 · Chapter 3: Field of Cormallen

Oh my, what a rare look into Pippin's heart and thoughts. What a remarkable hobbit he is -- how remarkable they *all* are. And this... Pippin could feel the soft light shining from him. It was the light of love, compassion, mercy, goodwill, curiosity and understanding. It was Frodo's light; a radiance Pippin had first seen as a child, snuggled close to his elder cousin on his first visit to Bag End, his first night away from home. Wow. What a lovely imagine.

Author's reply

Thanks a lot, Janet. And you did it again... you were the first to read and comment :) Amazing!

longcleeve · 10 March 2005 · Chapter 2: Trollshaws

oo i really liked this 2nd part. i love seeing characters interact who dont often in other storie, like pippin and sam :D its so sweet

Author's reply

Aww, thank you so much!

Periantari · 26 January 2005 · Chapter 2: Trollshaws

omg i love this story sooooo much~!! You paint such genuine sweet scenes between Pippin and Frodo ---it's just such lovely description.. i love the bit between Sam and Pippin; their dialogue was so sweet in terms of Pippin saying that Sam woudl surprise them and you put into a book type of quote in saying that Sam has something to do at the end which he wasn't sure what but he was resolute to do what he set out to do regarding staying with Frodo. Sam and Pippin's love fro Frodo is magnified so much in this chapter--i really really love it~ and your h/c is the best type there is too... i really enjoy reading this!!!! =) and the paragraph about the memories that Pippin had with Frodo was a sweet inclusion too. omg... so much to praise~ love this story--adding it to favorites (if i hadn't already ;) ::hugs:: keep it up, look forward to hearing much more. =)

Author's reply

omg... so much to praise~ OMG, indeed! :) Thank you so much for your sweet words. This story has been quite an experience for me (my first quest-story that is not only a ficlet) and I'm very happy it seems to work just as I hoped it would.

Nivina · 26 January 2005 · Chapter 2: Trollshaws

Awww... poor Frodo. Very lovely h/c scenes, and I love the way you show the wonderful friendship between the hobbits. :)

Author's reply

That counts as h/c already? You mean, I wrote h/c? :) I very much enjoy writing about the friendship between the hobbits and am glad that I was able to show their relationship.

Nivina · 26 January 2005 · Chapter 1: Crickhollow

What a lovely, sweet and comforting chapter! :)

Author's reply

Thank you so much.

Andrea · 26 January 2005 · Chapter 2: Trollshaws

Hello Lily! From visiting shirebound's Livejournal earlier, I found out, that today is a special day for you. So I wish you a happy birthday and go on with your great work! This particular story I like very much and I'm wondering, where the next snapshot will take place. After the quest? Please update soon.

Author's reply

Thank you so much! At LJ you can contact me at any time if you wish. The next chapter won't take place after the quest... or it might. That depends on where the quest ends for you (for me it ends in the Shire). :) *mysterious*

Pipwise Brandygin · 26 January 2005 · Chapter 2: Trollshaws

This is such a beautifully written and tender exploration of Pippin's feelings - I love how aware he is of how others are feeling too, and his efforts to keep Frodo warm and comfortable when he too is cold and tired. I also don't doubt that Pippin surprised Sam during that conversation just as much as Sam surprised him! I'm looking forward to reading more of this story :)

Author's reply

I'm very happy you're enjoying this story! I always wanted to write something about Pippin and this story finally gave me the chance to do so.
