'There is no way of telling people that they are all walking around shining like the sun.'
~~Thomas Merton
This was was a good story, I really enjoyed it. Was interesting to see how each might have reacted to situations that we didn't see in the book. I especially liked Boromir's role in all of this -- I like it when people see him for more than just the man who tried to take the Ring. And Pippin -- the Flame Incorrigible. :-P That made me smile. Thanks so much for writing!

I'm so delighted with your reviews, PSW. "Avalanche" was a very special story for me, and I tried hard to imagine our beloved Fellowship working together in this unusual situation.

You know, I haven't read this one in a while either. ;) Glad I added this to my 'feeling awful and want h/c' reading list today. I *do* feel better.
Author's reply
Yay, I'm glad this gave you good feelings. I haven't read Avalanche in awhile, either! This was the first story I really tried to weave themes (such as 'light') all the way through to the end.

Oh. This was lovely. I love the interaction between all the members of the fellowship and the dialogue is fantastic- very in character and brilliant. Most enchanting.
This goes for all your stories; I love Lotr and was wary about reading fanfiction, but I'm glad I stumbled across your fics. They're very sweet and a delight to read.
Also, it's great to find some Frodo appreciation and I adore his friendship with Aragorn, the kinship between the hobbits and growing bond between the members of the Fellowship.
Nice writing!!
Author's reply
Thank you very much! I'm astonished to realize that I've been writing LOTR fanfiction for eight years now. I never tire of ways to explore the bonding between Fellowship members... especially Frodo and Aragorn. I'm so happy you found this story, and I hope you find others that you enjoy. :)

Hi!
I've been reading your stories for a while now and I love them. It's like comfort food! And cocooning!
It was beautiful to see Legolas use the Light of the Elves to save Frodo. I like as well to think that all Elves have this gift.
Traumatised Pippin was really against his nature! It was weird to not hear him speak, even more so when he finally became well again!
The contrast made me realise that I missed him!
Author's reply
Thank you so much for reading! I love reading "comfort" stories, so I try to write them as often as possible. Our hobbits need lots of TLC.
Poor Pippin, it's nearly impossible to think of him not speaking. What a relief to finally "give him" his voice again. :D

"...'My wrist isn't strong enough yet.'
"'You broke your left wrist, Mr. Frodo,' said Sam helpfully.
"'Thank you, Sam.'
"... 'Sword practice it is, then,' said Frodo. 'Of course, I'm not entirely sure where I left sting...'
"'It's under your bedroll, Mr. Frodo.'
Frodo sighed. 'Thank you, Sam.'"
I think I got it all right. LOL! Love it!! And lots of Frodo healing...my favourite. :-) I liked Pip too, of course...who can resist that one, I ask you? Now I've got to go find the other story. I can't recall the title just now, but you'll know which I mean when you get the review. Good work...as always! God bless,
Galadriel
P.S. I love how you balance the hurt with lots and lots of comfort. You know, I wonder if either one of us could just do the angst without something to counteract it. Don't think I want to try.
Author's reply
Thank you, QG! And 'comfort' must always balance out (or greatly surpass) the 'hurt' in my stories. Our hobbits (especially Frodo) deserve all the comfort and attentive care they can get.

Just the right balance between angst, action, and comedy - I especially love how the hobbits are all so ... jovial, and it seems to infect the other characters. You really have Pippin down wonderfully, and I love the bit about him following Gandalf in Moria at the end. Splendid job!
Author's reply
Thank you! I learned *so* much by writing this story; it grew and grew far beyond my original vision for it. I really appreciate your kind words.

Ayyyyyyyy well it's been a while but how did I miss this one? Wonderful...y'know I strongly suspect Pippin is your favorite...and there are times when he's mine too...........then again......
It's good to be back reading stories again, I've been busy with a couple of projects of my own (nothing to do with LotR unfortunately, but hey, maybe someday, once the other stuff is finished....) But I took a time-out and came back to Middle-Earth for a while...and once I get stuck here it's hard to get out again, y'know? Guess you could say it's my happy place, LOL
Just keep up the good work, OK? You have that magical knack of making the characters jump right off the page, so to speak.........now if Aragorn would just jump off it and stay put right here with me *wink wink*

Middle-earth is certainly *my* "happy place", as well! Frodo remains my favorite, but Pippin is a *very* close second. I enjoyed crafting a story around both of them -- thank you so much for letting me know that you enjoyed it.

Shirebound, I don't know if I've ever left you a proper review of this story before. I recc'ed it on LOTR_Fic_Recs and decided I would go back and read it again as well (hehe...just to make sure I got the rating right...yes, that's why, not because I'm obsessed and love your stories or anything! ;-). Anyway, I just LOVE this passage:
""I'll try." Legolas moved closer to Frodo and bent over him, putting one hand on Frodo's forehead and sliding the other under the blankets to rest on Frodo's chest. He closed his eyes and for the first time in his long life let himself open fully to the life force of one of the Secondborn. He felt the fragile, mortal life rushing beneath his hands, unlike anything he had experienced before. Unlike Elves, or even trees, with their slow, patient energy, this was frighteningly swift, moving at a speed he could barely comprehend. This was what it was like to be mortal, he realized. But there was weakness here, a faltering pattern. He let his own energy flow outward, cradling gently, as he would if he were letting a tree feel him, get used to his presence and rhythm. There was a blending. He felt Frodo's rhythm respond to his, rest in its calm current, absorb some of his strength.... that's it, little one... that's it... "
Something about it just squeezes my heart everytime I read it! Thank you for this lovely moment!
Blessings!

Oh, thank you so much for the rec, and for the lovely review. "Avalanche" will always hold a special place in my heart because I consider it the first *real* story I ever wrote. To my amazement, it grew and evolved and just wove itself together in ways that I hadn't ever imagined.
*hugs you*

Awwwwwww! This story was sooo sweet! I love the very end, when Pippin sees Merry lit up . . . wonderful, just wonderful. That part alone was one of the sweetest fanfic things I've ever read, and THAT'S saying a lot.

I enjoyed reading the words: Light, hope, courage, and many more happy words in this section and the others. These, especially hope, is found anywhere in a person gifted to show others happier times in life. I really enjoyed reading this, and will finish it soon.

Aww. I loved this ending. I knew that darned Brandybuck was at the bottom of a lot of Pippin's mischief--I just couldn't prove it! And the "Light Incorrigible"! So sweet...if Pippin looks at a person at just the right angle, it looks as if they're lit up. Nicely done!

My poor little Pippin. Poor, frightened hobbits! I do like it when authors write Boromir as very caring towards the little guys. I'm not the biggest Boromir fan, but I do think there was a bit of hero-type worship (for lack of another word) going on between Pippin and Boromir. I think Merry was influenced as well, but not in the way young Pippin was.

I love this passage especially this line from Gandalf:
"Observe what is possible, Frodo Baggins. A Dwarf and an Elf become friends. The future stewards of the Shire and Gondor meet and form an alliance. The Heir of Isildur emerges from exile." He smiled. "A gentle gardener defends his master with body and sword; and hobbits from the Shire undertake a task which even the Wise dare not attempt." He turned to look at Frodo. "Who is to say what can or cannot be achieved?"
"You forgot the wizard," said Frodo, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
"Oh? What about him?"
"A mighty wizard toils to cut a walking stick for an injured halfling because he won't permit anyone else to touch his own staff again, ever."
Gandalf chuckled. "You are a most impertinent hobbit."
Shirebound, you're such an amazing writer... i've been skimming your stories and decided to read this one because I haven't read a hurt/comfort story for a while, and I have indeed chosen a good one =) i've been reading this non-stop.. hehe it's like a drug... your characterizations and descriptions and your plot go so well. I love your dialogue and I love how each character is portrayed... you are so amazing...
i have to leave a review for the completion of your story "By Chance and Purpose" too but i must tell you how much this story exceeded all my expectations and that you are one fine fanfic writer.
I've not finished this story yet, but i cannot wait to reach ch. 19! :-)
Great job!
