Oh yes, and I would rename the other sister who sounds too much like Théodred. And maybe even the third sister.

I would have changed the aunt's name.
Fimbrethel · 2 March 2025 · Chapter 1: A Little Lady of Gondor
I forgot to say that I would probably have named Théoden's younger sister something else in Rohirric.

I know this is rather late, and you probably know what I am going to say, or did it on purpose, but in the Appendices to Lord of the Rings it says that Théoden was 15 when his father became king of Rohan. What you have written is, however, an interesting story.

Lovely story. It's fascinating to read a story about King Thengel's claiming of his throne. There's not many fics based on that. To see it from his daughter's view makes it even more interesting. The culture shock! I like Ellevain; she acts like a child not an overgrown adult. I also like her aunt; she's rather Eowyn-like. Your grammar, research, and spelling were quite good; it's refreshing to read a Tolkien fic that's technically correct, well-written, and within canon after seeing the horrors that plague fanfiction net's LotR section. (e.g., Mary Sues) By the way, know any good fics about cousins of Eomer and Eowyn? After all, their mother did have a lot of siblings besides Theoden. They surely had some cousins besides Theodred. I'm glad you think Ellevain acts like a child, I was afraid she was a little to precocious. Shield maidens don't seem to be all that common so I figured it was likely Eowyn had a recent role model. Thank you for the kind words about my grammar and spelling, two areas I have long had trouble with, (darn progressive education)! :D I'm afraid I don't know any other fics about the Eorlinga family, though I'm sure they exist. My personal explanation for the absence of any mention of the offspring of Theoden's other sisters is that they married back into Gondor and so their children don't live in Rohan. Of course that still leaves Eomund's side of the family....

Ellevain seems to be making a mental adjustment to becoming a Daughter of the Mark. And she is frighteningly intelligent. I look forward to seeing more of her settling into her new role.

Wow, this is excellantly written and so interesting. I have not read about these characters before but I'm fascinated by them because of your portrayal of tthem. I will happily read more.
Bodkin · 6 January 2005 · Chapter 3: The Eastfold Of Rohan
Rohan is so very different from Gondor that it's hard to believe they share a border. It must be a real culture shock for poor Ellevain. The younger children will probably cope better - but I can imagine them whingeing to go home soon (which would annoy their aunt rather). Rohan, seen by Ellevain, is very a la Saruman-the-Slimeball, and it shocks her rather. I hope she can let go of her prejudices and learn to see the good side quickly, or she will be very unhappy there.
Bodkin · 1 January 2005 · Chapter 2: Passage Through Anorien
This is not going to be easy for Ellevain. I don't think her mother is going to find it a piece of cake either. I only hope their aunt supports them through the change rather than curling her lip and despising them for not being Rohirric.

Hooray! I'm delighted to that you've started developing back story for Rohan as well. It's a good start. Thank you!

A wonderful start on this one Morwen, you know this is exactly the kind of story I enjoy. I'm interested to see this one continue along.
