Oh, for heaven's sake! Only you, Sam.

Celeste Lucretia Black · 12 May 2021 · Chapter 3: A Lesson on Hobbits III (Legolas)

Pippin, you naughty hobbit! You must take a bath or you'll be filthy! I want some stew as well...

Celeste Lucretia Black · 12 May 2021 · Chapter 2: A Lesson on Hobbits II (Gimli)

This made me laugh a little. Pippin is the youngest brother, innocent and naive but just as loyal and protective. Merry is the middle brother, intelligent and mischievous and Frodo the eldest.

I needed a Budgie tale tonight and this one fit the bill! You know the best thing about stepping away from fandom for a while? Having new Budgielover stories to read when I come back! ;)

docmon · 7 May 2008 · Chapter 3: A Lesson on Hobbits III (Legolas)

I loved the image of Legolas watching the hobbits fight. I imagined him cocking his head as a dog would at hearing something too high for us to hear. His conversation with Aragorn was great too, and I liked how you interwove it with Pippin's bath. Nicely done!

docmon · 7 May 2008 · Chapter 2: A Lesson on Hobbits II (Gimli)

terrific! love the comparison of hobbits to cats! Never realized how alike they were.

Antane · 29 March 2008 · Chapter 5: A Lesson Hobbits (Gandalf)

“And,” Gandalf continued softly, his voice oddly gravelly as his gaze swept over the smaller forms of the sleeping hobbits, “once they take possession of your heart, they never give it back.” :) *hugs*

Antane · 29 March 2008 · Chapter 4: A Lesson on Hobbits IV (Aragorn)

Love that discussion about escargots! LOL! God bless hobbits! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)

Agape4Gondor · 25 March 2008 · Chapter 1: A Lesson on Hobbits (Boromir)

Deep sigh of contentment. Very nice chapter. I loved every moment.

Althea · 23 March 2008 · Chapter 5: A Lesson Hobbits (Gandalf)

This is so funny and precious and cute. I love it.

Nilmandra · 23 March 2008 · Chapter 5: A Lesson Hobbits (Gandalf)

This is hilarious! Poor Gandalf never got a word in edgewise. No one does hobbit humor like you... their voices were so well done and I could almost see the scene playing out before me eyes.

Pearl Took · 20 March 2008 · Chapter 3: A Lesson on Hobbits III (Legolas)

". . . thinking of ancient prophecies and the queer creatures that were hobbits." A very powerful last line, Budgie! These just get better and better! It would be hard for an immortal to keep in mind our very different views and attitudes toward time. I don't blame Pip at all for not wanting to take an icy cold bath!

Andrea · 20 March 2008 · Chapter 5: A Lesson Hobbits (Gandalf)

“once they take possession of your heart, they never give it back.” That's so very true! I'm one of their "victims" ;-) While Gandalf was trying to tell his story I waited for him to explode any moment. Sometimes hobbits can be VERY disrespectful AND cheeky! But it is clearly seen that Gandalf loves his hobbits. Thank you for this wonderful series!

Pearl Took · 20 March 2008 · Chapter 2: A Lesson on Hobbits II (Gimli)

I do love Gimli! Gimli and hobbits is even better. I'm sure he would be wonderfully warm and toasty. I'm sure their trustfulness would be a surprise, though I'm sure he wouldn't find it so much so in the Shire! LOL Well done, Budgie!

Pearl Took · 20 March 2008 · Chapter 1: A Lesson on Hobbits (Boromir)

Where have I been, Budgie? I thought sure I had read the early chapters of this, decided to check and make sure only to find I hadn't. I'm very sorry I've not been reading from the start. This was wonderful! Great fun and yes, the poor man has a lot to learn about Hobbits. I loved Frodo's calm solution - Threaten them with missing a meal! Wonderfully done!!

cathleen · 20 March 2008 · Chapter 5: A Lesson Hobbits (Gandalf)

Budgie, I adore this entire series, it's priceless and very sweet!!

harrowcat · 20 March 2008 · Chapter 5: A Lesson Hobbits (Gandalf)

“I had never heard you tell that tale. It varies slightly from the one our friend Bilbo tells.” The darkness hid Aragorn’s features, but the wizard could hear the smile in his voice. *echoing Aragorn's smile* I am not sure that we have really heard Gandalf's version of that tale even now. But his realisations about the hobbits are sooooo true.

Larner · 20 March 2008 · Chapter 5: A Lesson Hobbits (Gandalf)

He told a story? I didn't hear the Wizard tell ANYTHING! That wasn't a story--it was a single, prolonged interruption, and the toffees failed to glue mouths shut long enough to allow anything! And it's obvious both Gandalf and Aragorn are both besotted with Hobbits! Heh!

eiluj · 20 March 2008 · Chapter 5: A Lesson Hobbits (Gandalf)

I love how, in all of your stories, you portray Frodo as the hobbit-in-charge, always aware of the younger hobbits' concerns, and how his cousins are behaving (or mis-behaving). It's pleasant to think that even on the quest, the hobbits occasionally had enough to eat. I was just re-reading this story recently, so I'm especially glad to see the final chapter -- though not glad it *is* the final chapter! I wouldn't mind a second round of chapters from the Big People's points of view. [And while you're working on in-progress stories, there's also "Getting to Know You."] A sincere thank you for all these years of hobbit-centric tales!

Neilia · 19 March 2008 · Chapter 5: A Lesson Hobbits (Gandalf)

Well, Budgie, you did it again. *sigh* :D Love, Neilia

Eléon · 28 November 2007 · Chapter 4: A Lesson on Hobbits IV (Aragorn)

Oh, Aragorn! How could you?? Yech! Snails!! Blech, blech, blech!!....... *giggles* If he got me to like snails, I'd smack him, then laugh heartily!! Snails, indeed!! I still can't get over that!!! And he was complaining about Ėowyn's soup!!! I must say you have an overactive imagination!! And I love it!! ~Eléon~

Dreamflower · 20 September 2005 · Chapter 4: A Lesson on Hobbits IV (Aragorn)

*chuckle* How delightful! I am *so* loving these. So, Aragorn has learned that Bagginses are stubborn. I will also note that Boromir is *remembering* his lesson, and distracting the hobbits with thoughts of food. And I adore Merry's explanation for the name. *snicker* Far be it from a Brandybuck to admit he doesn't know something. As to escargot, I am afraid I would never try them myself. But my husband loves them.

Brilliant, brilliant Dreamflower! You are the only one who tied Boromir's lesson to Aragorn's lesson. Thank you, thank you! ((hugs you))

Baggins Babe · 20 September 2005 · Chapter 4: A Lesson on Hobbits IV (Aragorn)

I simply had to tell you how much I've loved all these tales, and this one was priceless. 'Escarp goats'!!! Bwahahaha! Oh my, what will our hobbits think when they learn the truth. I do hope you write that bit. I also loved Sam's reaction to Aragorn asking to borrow his pans - 'as though he'd asked to borrow the Ring for the evening'! I can just see Sam's disapproving face. Hope you'll write more soon.

Author's reply

I'm so glad you are enjoying these! I had originally intended ten stories, one for each member of the Fellowship (including Bill, or course), but they keep spinning off more plot bunnies. Who knows? The day Frodo and the others find out that Aragorn tricked them just might get written, after all.

Larner · 19 September 2005 · Chapter 4: A Lesson on Hobbits IV (Aragorn)

I wonder what French for snails translates to in Middle Earth? Poor Frodo--so suspicious. Love that Legolas and Boromir both helped Aragorn out in this one.

Author's reply

We are seeing another side of the forming of the Fellowship, aren't we? Big People unite! And they had better watch each other's backs when Frodo finds out!

Jay of Lasgalen · 19 September 2005 · Chapter 4: A Lesson on Hobbits IV (Aragorn)

Escarp goats? Oh, I love it! I'd love to see the Hobbits' reaction when they find out the truth. And what a surprise to see Legolas being so - creative - with the truth! Jay

Author's reply

I love stories in which the Big People of the Fellowship have to work together to deal with the hobbits. Including Legolas, who might be around humans a little too much. Still, however strong a united front the Big People present, will it be sufficient to confront four insulted and enraged hobbits? Huummmm...
