· Chapter 2: The Un-Expected Guest
What a delightful idea... making the unexpected guest Frodo!!! I'm impressed. And I really like the idea that he was born in Bag End! Wow - really neat idea. And so fitting.
Delightful chapter!
Author's reply
I do like the way such a birthday would tie him to Bag End, sort of foreshadowing his adoption by Bilbo.
Thanks!

This was cute. And I like the continued reference to the broken string... it's difficult enough to play with a broken string, never mind a hangover!

LOL, so very true!

· Chapter 26: Remedy
Wonderful story!
Boromir is a keen observer:
They were interesting little beings, these Halflings. You’d expect them to be soft as butter, looking at them, but they seemed to be as hard as the butter knife, on further acquaintance.
And he uses the image of food to describe the hobbits. That's funny! Obviously they have (literally) impressed him deeply :)
(I'm not sure if the word order is correct. But you know what I mean, don't you?)
Author's reply
I think the word order is correct, though my brain is not quite in working order yet. Up in the middle of the night with little one = brain doesn't work well next day. (OTOH, that used to be the best situation for writing - foggy brain = clear imaginings - I keep hoping the Muse will return from her extended holidays one of these days...)
I hadn't noticed at the time that he used food to describe the hobbits, but you're right, the metaphor fits the subject!

He has a lot to learn about Hobbit awareness of fungi and herbs, of course.
Very nice turn on poor Boromir, who's learning more about Hobbits than he'd ever dreamed possible.
Author's reply
Poor Boromir. He's really getting a good chance to learn about mythical (or do I mean legendary?) creatures.

I absolutely loved this! Would you honor me by archiving it at my LJ? I just loved the whole thing. Old Boromir is so perfect to "bounce" hobbits off of due to their strangeness to him and I don't see this observed nearly enough. And yes, as a noble, Boromir would and should be wary of poison! I loved everyone's reaction to his disgruntled and chilled condition, his startlement and finally his delight in, and desire for...what else? More soup! Lovely!
Author's reply
Archived! (at last)
Mmmm, if I had any mushrooms in the house (we keep running out of the the things, go figure) I'd be tempted to make up some of that mushroom soup for luncheon.
Got your email but am out of computer time for today... will set my sights on tomorrow.
*hugs* Hope you're feeling better!

LOL I don't recall this one but I do love it. Boromir was so well cared for in this and the hobbits were so cute.

Poor Pippin--such a dream, and such a defense--against a harmless cistern and boiler! Poor lad! At least Merry knows what to do!
Lovely short one, my friend.

Poor cistern! And poor boiler! And poor Travellers, when they want a hot bath!
(Thanks.)

· Chapter 25: Rude Awakening
Very nice story. Love it! Now I´d like to read about the morning after that night. *g*
Sleepwalking truly is a strange thing. I once shocked my mother and a bunch of her friends when running inside the leaving room, while they were playing cards in the late evening shouting:" FIRE! FIRE! Someone help, there is a fire!"
There were several more times I shocked my parents while sleep walking, like when going outside in the winter, middle of the night and my father just saw me by accidents, because he was coming home from a a party or another time, where my mother found me under a table, shaking and shouting at her in ..she says..another language... I didnt speak any other language at that age.. *L* but who knows whats inside us and where our mind is taken in dreams.
Author's reply
Hmmm, the morning after that night... Unfortunately, the Muse packed up not long after this was posted and hasn't been heard of since. Well, I did get a post-card the other day, so who knows if she might show up again, one of these days...
Oh, my, I'm glad that you were stopped before you went outside in winter--that might have been bad!
Our dc have sleepwalked at one time or another.

Wonderfully well done!! What a shock for dear old Merry.
Hobbits *should* have invented indoor plumbing :-)

You're right, it seems like a natural invention for hobbits. Cooking and bathing, important life events.

I've read this somewhere else I think.
I love it and I remember that M*A*S*H episode!
Author's reply
Perhaps. If you have, I can't remember where else it's posted. Maybe at LJ somewhere.
I remember that MASH episode too, and when we had cable, and they were showing the "best of" episodes, I kept watching for that one but never did see it.

Huh? My review just vanished! Oh well, try, try again...
Poor Pippin! Slaying the cistern in mistake for a troll, poor baby! I can just imagine his embarrassed consternation in the morning when Merry explains it all to him!
And imagine trying to explain the repairs...
(Oh, and as to my own mishap--looks like we may just be able to repair the tank or the seals and gasket...)
Author's reply
KWYM. I don't know if I answered these reviews, and the answers vanished, or if I got sidetracked and *thought* I'd answered them...
I'd imagine that Pippin wouldn't believe Merry, next morning, and would instead insist that it was all some sort of enormous prank.

Oh dear! LOL! Poor Pippin--his mishap was far worse than mine, poor baby! Sleepwalking! And slaying a helpless cistern in mistake for a troll!
I can just imagine his chagrin in the morning when Merry explains the mess to him--"squidge, squidge"...
And then they will have to explain the repairs...
What a start to life at Crickhollow!
(Oh, and as to my own mishap--it is quite possible we won't need a complete replacement after all...seems that you can get a kit to just replace the tank if needed, or the seals and gasket...)

I think Merry was very wise. Sleep-walkers are not to be disturbed if at all possible. I loved the care that Merry took and the suspense at the beginning is quite good. I was beginning to worry about what Merry might find. Well done!

Hah, answering neglected reviews tonight (ought to be in bed, but that's another story).
Thanks!

· Chapter 21: Dressed to the Teeth
Adelbrim makes a great young head of escort for a great young substitute Thain and his wife! While Goldi makes an excellent Thain's lady - even if she does want to start Yule early and feels the need to look over her shoulder when she hears the word 'Mistress'. She's a courageous lass and withstood the terror of that night remarkably well - holding off wolves is just the way to spend the early days of pregnancy.
Shame about the dress, though. I imagine Goldi and Farry had a great deal of fun with that! Although it might still be in a good enough condition to play the hobbit equivalent of King Cophetua and the Beggar Maid.
Author's reply
I do like Adelbrim. He's one of those characters that thrusts himself forward in a story and somehow takes on a life of his own.
Do you have any recommendations on reading in Daw's world? Chronologically, by her list, or by publication date? Have already read a couple of gripping tales, quite out of order by any reckoning.
