I really hate it that Sam thinks so lowly of himself and because of his family's status, they don't really encourage his self esteem.

The ways of Hobbits are truly fascinating, aren't they? I'm not British by the way, it is just the fancy language of Tolkien's works affecting me so.

Ahhhh! I absolutely loved it! This was such a wonderful tale, full of good hobbity love. And your Merry and Pippin were so in character! Wonderful!

What a lovely story. And oh yes, they are all certainly "noble, brave and true." :)

I just love this sweet, hobbity story. Especially things like... “Fo,” Merry said. “Yes Merry, it`s me. It`s Cousin Frodo. Did you have a good nap?” The little child just snuggled closer to his cousin and sighed contentedly. “Fo.” :)

Author's reply

Thank you! Frodo is everything to Merry, you know. :)

shirebound · 30 November 2004 · Chapter 2: In which Gandalf comes to visit

Oh, Merry's meeting with Gandalf is so sweet! I love how the ancient wizard and the young, spirited hobbits have grown so fond of each other.

Author's reply

Thank you! Yes I love Gandalf and wee hobbits too.

shirebound · 30 November 2004 · Chapter 1: When Sam and Merry met

This is such a delightful story! "That was one very long and tricky name this lad had." On to the next chapter...

lovethosehobbits · 30 November 2004 · Chapter 2: In which Gandalf comes to visit

Well, I'm finally getting caught up on some of my reading...a guilty pleasure for sure. I love this little tale you've penned. It warms my heart greatly to hear Merry and Gandalf's memories of first meetings. Love it and can't wait for more, tree

Author's reply

Thank you! I think both Gandalf and the hobbits would have very fond memories of each other. And more is coming.

Larner · 30 November 2004 · Chapter 2: In which Gandalf comes to visit

Love the toffees. Sounds like one of the plans for portraying Gandalf in the movie. I can see Merry back there with all the wrappers.

Author's reply

Thank you. And yes. I can see that too. Poor Merry, eating too many toffees, lol.

Larner · 28 November 2004 · Chapter 1: When Sam and Merry met

Waiting for more of this one as well. Good gap filler.

Author's reply

Thank you. More is coming.

Lindelea · 28 November 2004 · Chapter 1: When Sam and Merry met

O such a lovely treat! There are lots of things I want to comment on but I'm pulled away. I hope I can get back and chew on this one a little longer, it's very tasty! Thanks.

Author's reply

Oh, thank you. The treat will be here waiting for you so come back anytime you like :)

Star · 28 November 2004 · Chapter 1: When Sam and Merry met

Very good! You don't see many stories focusing on Merry and Sam, but I really liked this one. =)

Author's reply

Thank you! I think Sam and Merry`s relationship are too little explored and they do have more in common than I suppose both of them realise.

Lindelea · 26 November 2004 · Chapter 0: A Birthday Celebration

O hurrah! A *most* promising beginning! I hardly know where to start, there are so many lovely bits that caught my eye. Merry with a bucket of ale! *g* (and I can see him dipping some smaller container into it as he works his way through the whole) The Rider who reminds him of Pippin! (the sudden changes of topic, hehe) The Riders never having imagined a different calendar, and Merry's casual thought that he ought to write down the differing calendars some day... and his regaling the Riders with Shire customs. Gandalf's appearance, and the ensuring conversation. And Merry being tired... (of course!) And tomorrow is Sam's birthday. O I do hope you keep working on this and post more soon.

Author's reply

Thank you! A new chapter is up now. I think both the riders and Merry find eachother curious about the others customs and having a totally different set of reckoning things are a large difference. And yes, Poor Sam not getting to celebrate his birthday. Gandalf knows Merry all to well I think, watching out for him as he watches over the others as I explain in what looks to be a prequel to this actually - the chapter Pippin of Cousins on watch.
