Oh, that was such a pleasure to read. Hisime -- what a beautiful name! I think my favourite aspect of your writing is the dynamic between Eowyn and Legolas. Legolas seems to regard her as the lady Eowyn is but with the respect he would afford his most skilled and honourable fighters, or at least that is the sense I get in their interaction even if you don't explicitly state that. It's almost asexual in nature, even though we know it isn't -- he is well aware that she is a woman and she is well aware that he is a male elf, and so their customs require that they treat each other a certain way. I like the duality that implies. The fact that is married is only part of the puzzle. Because of that, I find that moment where she is confronted with the reality that he must deliver her baby so cool, because sex suddenly becomes an issue between them. Eowyn finds herself in a position of weakness and it takes Legolas confessing he has never laid with another for her to swallow her indignities to do what needs to be done. Sex becomes the power broker -- it tips the scales one way, and then it tips them back. We learn so much about them in their interaction at that moment. Thank you for the story. I loved it.

Ah...well done! Although, I do wish you had her born closer to her due time. Too many problems with 7 month old infants can occur. My only other thought was that, hopefully, the other kids would not talk about "hissy fits". Oh, well. 'Tis a beautiful story.

That was great. Still, I don't think Legolas realizes yet what he's got himself into. ;)

Ah, what a sweet ending! And I do like the explanation for the name you'd been using for Eowyn's daughter. Alas, it does not appear that Legolas is going to shuck that title for a long, long time. Oh, and they used to EAT the afterbirth? Oh my. I can understand the reasoning, and it probably would be healthy for the mother (I know that cats eat the afterbirth, and also any kittens born stillborn), but still. Yeesh.

I just love the conversation back and forth throughout the labor and birth especially when Eowyn says "Cease with the My Ladies and call me Eowyn. You have lifted my skirts enough times." Very funny. You have really captured these two characters. Even my daughter, who is a self-proclaimed Eowyn expert agrees. I'm the self-proclaimed Legolas expert. Another terrific chapter.

Sigh! Perfect. Just perfect. I'm so sad it's over. It was a true pleasure Le Rouret. Please don't keep us waiting long for another of your wonderful stories.

What a lovely story this is - I have thoroughly enjoyed discovering how Legolas gained his reputation as the midwife of choice to the aristocracy of Gondor. And, as I recall, it's a pretty accurate description of childbirth too! I feel for Eowyn.

Duchess · 14 October 2004 · Chapter 4: Hísimë

Okay, first off, that bit about the placenta was absolutely gross and I've never heard of any such thing among people. *making gagging noises* This does not mean I'd like to have examples, thanks just the same. lol It is a wonderful thing the rest of this chapter was so darling! *vbg* Faramir being so anxious to get to his wife and child was so sweet! I love it that they wanted Legolas to name the munchkin and little did the Elf know when he poo poo'ed what Faramir was telling him about noble ladies wanting him to attend their births. LOL I loved that! *still snickering* A truly wonderful little story and I cannot wait to see what other treasures you write for us! :):):)

Duchess · 12 October 2004 · Chapter 3: The Mists Gather

Very well done! I truly believed I was there for the birth, that was so well written and SO realistic. Ouch! LOL And the witty banter between the two is just darling, you've gone and made me green with envy again. *vbg*

Lamiel · 12 October 2004 · Chapter 3: The Mists Gather

Legolas' mention that it was neither his nor his mother's wish that he attend that first birth makes me think of what Tolkien says in LACE, that the Elves believed that being a warrior lessened one's abilities as a healer. Well, even if that is the case, clearly it hasn't hurt Legolas all that much. Speaking as one who has yet to experience childbirth (thank the Valar) I must say that this story is something of an education! And it's also a lot of fun to read. My sympathies to poor Eowyn, but I'm rather sorry that the birth is over. It means that the story will be ending soon as well, and I'm enjoying it.

This just gets better and better! I love this whole concept, though why the thought of Legolas being noted for his "midwife talents" and having used said talents so many times should be so appealing, I haven't the foggiest! But it is and I'm thoroughly enjoying the interplay between the gentle and very capable elf prince and the normally stern, held-together, but-now-coming-apart- shieldmaiden of Rohan!! This whole situation is simply ripe with wonderful possiblities for such interesting and REVEALING dialogue...such as Legolas's revelation that he has "never lain with a woman"....this was truly an interesting track you took with this subject - quite different than the direction so many other authors have gone. I rather liked it and the fact that his intent was to "save himself" for the one he would eventually marry. Rather a radical idea coming from a male in that era - no wonder Eowyn reacted with surprised agreement. Very few men in that time would hold to such an "outlandish" view, that the male should be just as chaste as the woman was expected to be...but then, I'm not surprised Legolas would hold such a view, being as intelligent and farsighted as he is! Your stories continue to be of the highest caliber and quality and I'm looking forward with anticipation to the unfolding of this "delicious" treat!! Elenora

Bodkin · 11 October 2004 · Chapter 2: Of Valor and Virginity

Legolas as midwife! I can see him being experienced in the skills needed to deliver babies, (although I could see him even more easily delivering foals). But poor Eowyn is not giving birth under ideal circumstances here - it's cold, she's surrounded by slain guards and their killers are presumably still around. Not to mention the embarrassment of having a person of Legolas's rank and gender investigating the area below her skirt! I remember reading somewhere that soldiers injured in battles in pre-sophisticated healthcare days often did better if they were not rushed into hospital tents, because they were less likely to succumb to infection through cross-contamination. Don't know how true it is, but I can see a logic to it. Look forward to the next stage of the delivery - finding whether she is 10 cm dilated!

Wantanelf · 11 October 2004 · Chapter 2: Of Valor and Virginity

Well, I was wrong. It's not Legolas who doesn't know what he's getting into. It's Eowyn! Forty-seven births! Wow! That sounds like another good story in itself. This is just so funny and sweet. And the virginity revlation! "Well I reserve that joy for myself as well." What a beautiful line and he makes it believable. Now that's why I want an elf. I can't wait for more.

Lamiel · 10 October 2004 · Chapter 2: Of Valor and Virginity

Oh I am glad to see this posted! So nice to return to the world of the Green Knight - Elven chivalry must be the best kind. And not a love-sick maid in sight. Hooray! I think this story may be most enjoyable for the opportunity it presents to explore hidden aspects of Legolas' character - and Eowyn's as well, should you choose. I'm not sure I quite see how a prince of Mirkwood came to attend so many births, but I'll accept it as part of your world. And I am very, very glad to see that you are holding true to Tolkien's vision of Elven customs. I admit that I enjoy reading a fic that strays from LACE now and then - purely for recreational purposes, of course. But far too few fans take the opportunity to explore Tolkien's Elves the way he intended them. Truly, virginity is not that hard. Granted, it may be a little more challenging when you're Legolas and looking at several centuries or more of bachelorhood, but it still isn't so impossible as many fans seem to believe. Well done, and good for you.

Duchess · 10 October 2004 · Chapter 2: Of Valor and Virginity

Boy, I'm not sure I could have handled that situation any better than Eowyn. LOVED the conversation, by the way. LOL This part is delightful and I can't wait for more! *vbg*

Coriel · 10 October 2004 · Chapter 1: In The Woods

Oh, boy. :) Good ol' Legolas, ready for anything. Can't wait for the next chapter! :D

Wantanelf · 8 October 2004 · Chapter 1: In The Woods

Yeah!!! I 've been hoping you would come up with another GREAT strory. I laughed so hard. Having given birth to three children I could definitely relate to Eowyn. I can distinctly remember grabbing my husband's shirt in the middle of a horrendous contraction with my second daughter and saying something along the lines of "Where the hell is that anesthesiologist!!!" Poor Legolos. He has no idea what he has gotten himself into has he. I can't wait to read more. You have an amazing talent. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!!

Elenora · 8 October 2004 · Chapter 1: In The Woods

Aarrgghh!! This is perfect!! I nearly fell off my chair when I saw this posted, LOL! This whole idea was simply killing me when presented in "My Dear Bandrobras" - the whole aspect of Legolas being the "midwife of choice" among the "aristocratic" Godorrian women was not only an intriguing idea, but a hoot as well!! I am so glad you are pursuing this story idea - it should make for some very interesting scenes, to put it mildly. I look forward to the developing of this story and can't wait for chapter two! TieAillin Alcarion · 8 October 2004 · Chapter 1: In The Woods

oooo, I can't wait to see the rest of this! I'm having a home birth in a few weeks and WISH I could get Legolas to be there!! Also, as long as I'm writing, I would love to see what happened when Bandobras returned to court. But hey, this one is timely for me personally! ;-) Tracey Walking with Elves (only on the Discovery Channel)

Tinnuial · 8 October 2004 · Chapter 1: In The Woods

The Green Knight is back!!!!!! :) *Cheer* Though his duties seem a far cry from his last role as Eowyn's champion!!! Legolas' name should be changed to Greenleaf-of-many-and-varied-talents I think. Midwifery is one skill that one does not normally attribute to knights in shining armour I'll warrant. Looking forward to the next chapter....

Duchess · 8 October 2004 · Chapter 1: In The Woods

Oh wonderful! Now we finally get to see how Legolas helped Eowyn deliver. I am very sorry for her that it's in the cold forest amidst tragedy though. All her poor men! Please do continue this as soon as possible? *vbg*
