Larner · 14 December 2004 · Chapter 36: Spilling Forth

Hooray for Ferdi, and grief for the Ruffians. If they think they can best Strider in his own hills, they have another thing coming, I'm certain. Of course, they aren't as aware of Strider's background as we are....

Larner · 14 December 2004 · Chapter 34: Food for Thought

Am feeling with Bergil and Denny. Well done.

Larner · 14 December 2004 · Chapter 31: Fighting Fire with Fire

Hooray for Pimpernel!

Larner · 14 December 2004 · Chapter 29: Leave-taking

I am grieving, too.

Author's reply

Was going back and re-reading this to make sure of continuity in the new story, and glancing at the reviews saw yours once more. Have I ever told you how much I appreciate your taking the time to comment as you read through a story? Well I do.

Larner · 14 December 2004 · Chapter 27: Not So Bad, Really

Ah, am so glad I was right about Bergil. Lovely hobbity moments for the tall guardsman of Gondor.

Larner · 14 December 2004 · Chapter 26: In the Hands of a Healer

Bless Bergil (or so I'm guessing) for being there for Hilly when he needs it. Surgery would be a new one for the Hobbits, I'm sure. Am still catching up as I can.

Larner · 14 December 2004 · Chapter 25: Conversation, Polite and Otherwise

I'm wishing Ferdi were here, myself.

Larner · 13 December 2004 · Chapter 24: When in Rohan...

I'd forgotten about the Star going to Sam. Thanks for reminding me.

Larner · 11 December 2004 · Chapter 23: To Meet Once More

Proper greeting for the day!

Larner · 11 December 2004 · Chapter 22: Sleeping Half the Day Away

How I would LOVE to greet the King myself. /me wanders sadly away, wishing I looked more like Arwen Undomiel

Author's reply

Ah, wouldn't I love to greet him, myself. Writing is the closest I'll ever come, I fear.

Grey Wonderer · 10 December 2004 · Chapter 50: Steps and Mis-steps

This is trhe biggest cliff hanger in some time. The little princess and Hilly in the water, Pippin near death from lack of air, Sam banged up and bruised and still no rescue for anyone. I hope someone comes out of this in one piece! I do hope Sam doesn't feel too badly about his fall and Pip's medicine. Even if they save everyone I know Sam will be too hard on himself. (Elladan didn’t wait for Arwen’s answer. ‘I’ll go to the waterfalls,’ he said. ‘I doubt Estel would hear any summons if he’s near them.’ He mounted his horse and was gone.) Our hero, I hope is to be Elladan as he is, at least, on the way.

Author's reply

We're still hanging on the cliff, as you now know, but hope for resolution soon. Thanks!

Larner · 10 December 2004 · Chapter 21: Laying Uneasy Spirits to Rest

Very satisfying. And I'm glad Pippin showed mercy and sense.

Author's reply

Glad to hear you're enjoying the story! I certainly have been enjoying re-visiting these earlier chapters with you! Pippin can show a lot of sense, when there's no danger to his wife and child(ren) in the mix!

Larner · 10 December 2004 · Chapter 17: Fighting for Breath

I rather hope they are closing the door after the horse has escaped.

Larner · 10 December 2004 · Chapter 16: The Dark before the Dawn

So now the Hobbits are leprechauns? Okay.....

Larner · 10 December 2004 · Chapter 12: Best Laid Plans

BTW--am glad I am not the only one to realize the hithlain rope needs to be treated with respect and consulted from time to time. Good detail.

Larner · 10 December 2004 · Chapter 14: Fox and Hound

I have to leave, and at such a point! Another cliffhanger!

Larner · 10 December 2004 · Chapter 12: Best Laid Plans

Keeping me enthralled.

Hai Took · 10 December 2004 · Chapter 50: Steps and Mis-steps

Hilly is so very brave! the way he dove in after the princess was very sweet. I hope he is alright and able to get out of the water! Oh my! How frightening for him to see her swept away! It must be terrible for Arwen to try and stay in place but be so worried about her daughter! Then not being able to be with them but for new to come swiftly! Good thing Denethor was able to meet up with Elrohir and Elladan! They will be of use in a search but also its seems their ears are of service! Now Pippin has collapsed and Sam is most likely hurt! He took quite a tumble! I hope he isn't hurt too bad! Merry and Diamond are there and Bergil is racing along the river trying to find those who fell in. Sounds like they are going to need more swimmers! Oh dear I'm all a flutter! So many things happening at once! So many to worry about, I hope there is more soon!

Author's reply

While researching I found out that it's instinctive to go in after someone drowning in a river, and yet the strongest swimmer (would-be rescuer) might well drown in the attempted rescue. There are specific methods for river rescue, imagine that! And textbooks and training videos and courses! Thanks for your observations. I have added another chapter (no resolution, yet) and hope to add another before the weekend.

Connie B. · 10 December 2004 · Chapter 50: Steps and Mis-steps

One problem just keeps getting compounded. I don't even want to think about what could happen next. This was a great chapter. It's one of those that's fun to read despite the trauma to the characters, or is that because of it?:) Thanks. Connie B.

Author's reply

Hmmm, despite or because of? One of those nagging questions. Angst. That's the answer. Thanks.

Bodkin · 10 December 2004 · Chapter 50: Steps and Mis-steps

I was forced to go and check - using the net - only to find that not all the references (of which there are many) meant quite what I did. Here are some:- Like piling Pelion on Ossa, "according to excess unto excess." See on "1Co 12:31". Pelion on Ossa (a Greek phrase meaning ‘a bad situation getting ever worse’) To heap Pelion on Ossa, to compound one’s difficulties; to add to one’s problems. (In their war against the Olympians, two of the Giants, Otus and Ephialtes, attempted to reach the heights of heavens by stacking one mountain – Pelion – upon another – Ossa. Before they could complete the feat, they were slain by Apollo. I just like the sound of it. (Like a 'secret de polichinelle' which is an open secret of the kind that everyone knows so nobody ever mentions - and therefore outsiders never discover.)

Bodkin · 10 December 2004 · Chapter 50: Steps and Mis-steps

Piling Pelion on Ossa!!! Is anybody currently left uninjured? What a dramatic chapter. I shall have to put my ER hat on and get to mopping up blood.

Author's reply

Okay, I'll bite. Where would I find out more about Pelion and Ossa? Thanks for the quick review, very heartening. Cannot believe this chapter split itself into so many pieces...

Connie B. · 10 December 2004 · Chapter 49: Hide and Seek

Oh dear, another cliffhanger. I don't think I'm really awake enough to leave a good review. Thanks for updating so quickly. Connie B.

Grey Wonderer · 10 December 2004 · Chapter 49: Hide and Seek

Let's hope that Hilly's lessons paid off and that he can save the child. I can't believe that he is going to have to go into the water after her. This should be very interesting. Shame on you for ending this here! Now Hilly will be in the water longer. LOL Great suspense and so like a little child to think everything is a game.

Bodkin · 10 December 2004 · Chapter 49: Hide and Seek

Does Hilly swim? He's not a Brandybuck, but the Thain makes his escort learn, doesn't he? I hope some help gets there soon. I would have thought this adventure would have been enought to stop Hilly wanting to go to sea.

Hai Took · 9 December 2004 · Chapter 48: Of Picnics and Party Games

Oh, my I hope that Elrohir, Elladan and Elessar are able to convince Pippin and those he loves that he needs help! I did like the tiny little look at what some of the time in Cormallon must have been like, of course I think that goes along with one of your other stories as well! Hm, messed up there on the Pilgrim in the last review! I knew he was someone but got that characters all mixed up! I bet it was a splendid time for all of them laughing and playing in the grass and sunlight! I want to be part of a hobbit picnic, oh well, guess reading it will have to do for now! Uh-oh, the little princess is gone! I hope that these men haven't decided she would make a better ransom than who they think is the Thain's son! However, I think I might be seeing what is going to happen...have to wait and see! Looking forward to more, may it be soon!

Author's reply

Poor healers, dealing with stubborn Tooks. You weren't the only one who thought the fisherman was the Pilgrim. Must have been the long, tangled locks and Merry's observation that he looked half-mad. More *did* come soon after you wrote this review. Hope it was soon enough! Thanks!
