Ah--the crossing at Tharbad! Yes, a bad time of it he knew at the time. Well written!

Larner · 9 February 2012 · Chapter 20: Close Quarters
Hahahahahahaha! Yes, I can appreciate that Aragorn would truly rather be about anywhere other than the lockup at this time! Heh! Delightful! And of course Ferny would be part of it!
Cairistiona · 8 February 2012 · Chapter 20: Close Quarters
Oh dear, Halbarad's gotten them both in jail! Love your take on him, and love the line, "Yet his glare had not suffered." I imagine even one-eyed (or one-and-a-half eyed?), Aragorn could level a man with a look!
Cairistiona · 8 February 2012 · Chapter 19: Crossings
I love how you don't place this during a definitive time in Boromir's life. It can be on his way to Rivendell, which adds a poignancy to his thoughts just before collapsing, or it could be during some other journey he takes along a cold and nearly frozen river, which lends an entirely different urgency to his predicament. Very nicely done.
Larner · 22 January 2012 · Chapter 18: Protection
A perfect talisman, and you are so welcome back! And seeing Bodkin's name among the comments was a delight as well.
Author's reply
Thank you for your kind words. I hadn't noticed that it has been 4 years since my last update. Hopefully, there will be more to come :-)
Cairistiona · 22 January 2012 · Chapter 18: Protection
Oh, this is excellent, as is the entire series! You hear about bullets hitting belt buckles or badges or even books, and why not an arrow striking Aragorn's Star of the Dunedain pin! That had to have hurt, but good for Halbarad's rough comfort. Instead of spamming you with reviews, I'll say here that I've read through all these drabbles and enjoyed each immensely, my favorites being "Defence" and just about every one that features Halbarad, for whom I have a very large soft spot. You've written Aragorn in his many guises very well in character, and you've managed so well at packing a lot into each set of 100 words. I'm very glad you've come out of "hiatus". May inspiration continue to strike!
Author's reply
Thanks for the review! I know that having just a small item fend of bullets and what not is quite a (movie) cliché, but I couldn't resist. I am glad it worked for you. And it's hard to not have a large soft spot for Halbarad :-) Hopefully, my muses will stay this time ...
Larner · 3 December 2007 · Chapter 17: The Morning After
Hehe! I hope that having been trained in healing by Elrond himself he has one or two remedies he knows well enough to whip up for himself! Excellent!
Author's reply
I bet Aragorn knows how to cure the worst symptoms of a hangover. But his biggest problem at the moment is that he has to drag himself out of bed in order to mix up the proper medicine.
Larner · 3 December 2007 · Chapter 16: Decision
Has it truly been that long? My heavens! Yes, the time approaches to go home. He's the Chieftain of the Northern Dunedain, and he needs to take some thought to that; and he has journeys to make through Rhun and Harad as well before he settles back into life of patrolling the northern lands, seeing to the integrity of the Shire and the Breelands, and seeking out Gollum.
Author's reply
Has it truly been that long? Unfortunately, it has been almost exactly one year since I posted my last drabble *sigh* And yes, Aragorn has a tight schedule at that time. Not only has he business in the North to see to, and some travelling to do, he also has to rout the corsairs in Umbar :-)
meckinock · 24 November 2007 · Chapter 17: The Morning After
Awww. Poor hung-over Thorongil.
Author's reply
He'll brew himself some vile-smelling tea, then he's back to his normal, controlled self in no time.
meckinock · 24 November 2007 · Chapter 16: Decision
I just love the image of Thorongil bored senseless with Denethor's "imperious" yammering.
Author's reply
I see Aragorn/Thorongil as a very patient man. But even he has his limits :-)
Bodkin · 24 November 2007 · Chapter 17: The Morning After
Oh dear. The enthusiasm of the Rohirrim must be rather difficult to overcome!
Bodkin · 24 November 2007 · Chapter 17: The Morning After
Oh dear. The enthusiasm of the Rohirrim must be rather difficult to overcome!
Author's reply
Oh yes. Peer pressure anyone? But Thorongil was not completely opposed to really join the party.
Bodkin · 24 November 2007 · Chapter 16: Decision
It must be difficult to put up with Denethor's pontifications, when you are accustomed to listening to the wisdom of Elrond.
Author's reply
At the point of time were I envision this drabble, Aragorn hasn't listened to Elrond in quite some time. But he has reached a point were he remembers intelligent, fruitful conversations with Elrond very vividly.
Anonymous · 21 April 2007 · Chapter 15: Evil Memories
>_> 'm not innocent either...Dear *goodness,* if the tale's not begging to be told after that, I don't know what is. Although I wouldn't particularly want to distract you from Doomed to Live, now would I.
Author's reply
First of all, I owe you a big apology for not answering your review earlier. And I agree with you that Aragorn's experiences in Moria beg to be told. I even have a tiny plot bunny nibbling at my ankle and whispering suggestions. But it will have to wait until Doomed To Live is somewhere close to finished.
Larner · 11 November 2006 · Chapter 13: Close Encounter
A reason to go on, and a needed step to take, of course. But these two are friends, after all.
Author's reply
Yes, an excellent reason. Furthermore, Aragorn knows the comforts that await them in Rivendell, and they all have need of some comfort at that point of their journey.
Larner · 11 November 2006 · Chapter 14: Oaths
The renewal of the oaths after the proof of them is perhaps needless, but means the more. So glad you finally posted it! About time!
Author's reply
And about time I answered all your lovely reviews. I fully agree with you. Aragorn and Éomer have given ample proof during the War of the Ring that they still uphold that oath. But Aragorn was not yet king during the Ringwar. Moreover, renewing the oath provides a good reason for a party, and I think both Gondor and Rohan have need of a good celebration after the dark years of Sauron's threat.
Larner · 11 November 2006 · Chapter 15: Evil Memories
At least Boromir is warned Aragorn seeks only to protect others, and not to hide facts. Hopefully he can appreciate such feelings.
Author's reply
Oops, I wasn't aware that I have still unanswered reviews. Sorry for not replying sooner. I think the relationship of Boromir and Aragorn was somewhat strained during that part of the journey. As soon as Aragorn finds an opportunity to related the tale to Boromir, Boromir will understand Aragorn's reluctance.
meckinock · 11 November 2006 · Chapter 15: Evil Memories
"Later. That tale is not for the innocent to hear." *waves hand* I'm not innocent!
Author's reply
Ok, ok, I get it. *moves 'mines of Moria' nûzgul to the top of the plot bunny list*
meckinock · 11 November 2006 · Chapter 13: Close Encounter
What a powerful little scene. I love the Aragorn-Glorfindel interaction. Gosh, ever think about expanding these? They're all great.
Author's reply
Thanks! Gosh, ever think about expanding these? Thinking: yes, I think I have enough plot bunnies to last me a couple of years. It 's the time to write them down I lack ;-)
Linda Hoyland · 10 November 2006 · Chapter 15: Evil Memories
These were a most enjoyable read.
Author's reply
Thanks! They also were fun to write.
grumpy · 5 November 2006 · Chapter 7: Trouble
Poor Estel, who can resist icing on a cake, they are lucky he did take the whole cake, I guess it would have been missed.
Author's reply
But isn't the icing just the best part of the cake? Estel might have thought that no one would notice that he just wanted to sample the icing whether it is good enough for the guests ;-)
grumpy · 5 November 2006 · Chapter 11: Longing for Spring
I can see where Aragorn is coming from. If you can not be warn, at least think about warm dry places.
Author's reply
Oh yes. I have tried the tactics myself at times. I certainly works, if only to take your mind off your own misery.
Larner · 4 November 2006 · Chapter 12: Insubordination
Okay, insubordination, yes; but the signs of a canny captain there. Listen well, Denethor.
Author's reply
Ah, but Denethor's order is not completely unwarranted. Thorongil displays a good deal of arrogance in acting openly against Denethor, convinced that he is right and that he can sneak across the river and spy out the enemy's camps. So Denethor has every right to dress down his Captain. But it would be exteremly stupid to ignore the news Thorongil discovered. Thanks for all the lovely reviews!
Larner · 4 November 2006 · Chapter 11: Longing for Spring
Sounds like a good time to retreat for a time of refreshment to within the Shire.
Author's reply
If duty does not call them elsewhere ...
Larner · 4 November 2006 · Chapter 10: Fair Annúminas
Oh, yes, indeed proper to the return of the King to the North Kingdom.
Author's reply
Of all the places in Middle-earth, Annúminas is the one I would most love to visit. I always figured that it would be somewhat like Zürich in Switzerland.
