Well, I'm glad they got that figured put! And Frodo married -- it's a nice thought, right? :-)

lovethosehobbits · 22 January 2011 · Chapter 9999: Epilogue 2: What Happened After

OMG!!! I absolutely adored this! I *LOVED* the ending!! Frodo, truly happy, makes me just want to dance. Great, great job!

Author's reply

Thank you, thank you for the words of encouragement! It is just the kind of happy ending I like to imagine. I was never quite satisfied that Frodo had to sail away in the real version...

FantasyFan · 21 January 2011 · Chapter 9999: Epilogue 2: What Happened After

I dug up my original review of that chapter of "A Healer's Tale": FantasyFan Reviewed Chapter: 41 on 8/9/2005 I have always wondered if there wasn't someone who wanted to match Frodo with Pearl. Of all the handy lasses, she is of the most appropriate age, and I would think that they were in each other's company often enough for the suggestion to come up. And now that you've put the notion in Pippin's head, I'm surprised even more that Frodo didn't end up marrying her. Pippin doesn't let go of an idea too easily! Frod did deserve a plump wife and a passel of children. How nice of you to give them to him! Now he'll be Pippin's brother, and Pip may never let Merry forget it. (Although it's quite funny that both Pippin and Merry are surprised by the news. Frodo can be a sly one, when he needs to. It would be much harder for Merry and Pippin, distracted by good fortune, to spy on and worry about a contented Frodo, than it was for the original consipiracy to form around Frodo's own worries and darker secrets.) You'll have to write another epilogue someday where one of Merry's daugthers marries one of Frodo's sons, (or Frodo's daughter and Merry's son, or maybe both!) so that the family trees can become even more intertwined. I do feel a little sorry for Isumbard, though. He and Pearl were happy, and now that won't happen.

Author's reply

Arrgh, I typed up a thoughtfully written (tho very belated reply) on this silly sticky keyboard (sticky spill yesterday -- well, the day before yesterday, now) and something odd happened and it disappeared. In short, it would be fun to marry off one of Frodo's children to one of Merry's, with Pippin as commentator or something. Would have to think of another sweet girl for Isum... he certainly deserves someone sensible, loving, and easily brought to laughter, as I imagine Pearl. Hope you and yours had a blessed holiday celebration.

Yep, kind of hard to type with a 120lb dog on your lap, try trying to peer around a set of tail and whiskers paradeing across the key board, at least Mischief dose not step on the keys, just the flat bits, it's a lap top! L.J.

Larner · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 9999: Epilogue 2: What Happened After

Aha! Satisfying, this! And now perhaps Pippin and Merry are equally brothers to Frodo! Heh! Hope Pearl appreciates what SHE is getting into! Heh!

LOL! This is the sort of AU I love, where everyone ends happily, "to the end of their days" is how I think Sam put it, once upon a time. Author Reply: LOL! This is the sort of AU I love, where everyone ends happily, "to the end of their days" is how I think Sam put it, once upon a time.

Larner · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 12: Epilogue

Perhaps they ought to have allowed him to continue his "Shire beautification project"? Heh!

Dreamflower · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 9999: Epilogue 2: What Happened After

LOL! I just love Pippin tormenting Merry over the mail! What a fun AU! I've always remembered this one fondly-- the ultimate end of Frodo's growing "transparency". Personally, I'd love an AU where he could still be invisible if he wished, from time to time. *giggle* 'I only hope that Frodo knows what he's getting himself into,' he said. 'Getting himself into?' Pippin said, puffing himself up a bit as he began to perceive some insult or other towards his beloved elder sister Pearl. 'Getting himself into?' he repeated. 'Marrying into such a family,' Merry said, smug, and then he grabbed Pippin's head, pulled it down despite Pippin's best struggles, and gave the unruly curls a good, hard rubbing with his knuckles. 'Acquiring such a brother!' Perfect ending! *giggles madly*

Author's reply

That sort of AU (invisibility at will) sounds like fun, although I think Pippin would be the one who'd enjoy such a thing the most. Still, it would come in really handy when it came to (not) entertaining the S.-B.'s, I suppose...

Larner · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 11: Seeing is Believing

Frodo returned in this manner is such a relief to all!

Larner · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 10: Trip to Rivendell

Not an easy thing, this. Now, to find out whether or not the treatment will work or be fatal....

Larner · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 9: Cutting It Close

Well, indeed he has some prospects.... Now--Celeborn's letter?

Larner · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 8: Letter from Gondor

Yes, haircuts would become very problematical when you can't see the hair or the head! Heh! At least for Frodo himself he can feel where he is in space, so it wouldn't be that much different than being blind; but for everyone else they must use the bandages and clothing and gloves as reference!

Larner · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 7: Revisiting Some Old Haunts

I can certainly appreciate just why the visit was heartening to poor Frodo! And they did get a good meal out of it, at least.

Larner · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 6: Cover Up

And Merry thinks he's in shock now? At least he's being prepared as gently as Frodo can for the full truth! Heh!

Larner · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 5: Going, Going, Gone...

Now, that WOULD be a shock! Love Frodo's use of humor to try to defuse the stress of the situation.

Larner · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 4: Sleight of Hand

Becoming invisible so slowly is becoming dangerous now! And trust Pippin to notice he's now wearing boots! Poor Frodo!

Larner · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 3: Seeing Out the Old Year

Oh, to find themselves seeing through Frodo in this particular way! Heh! Poor Hobbits!

Larner · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 2: Old Ring-bearers Never Die...

Merry and Pippin have yet to figure out what's happening! I think it was reading this that led me to write "Filled with Light as with Water," actually!

Larner · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 1: Home Again

Oh, it's THAT story! Hooray! Haven't read it for ages! Poor Frodo--the problems when one is dealing with a transformation that is ongoing! Heh!

Larner · 20 January 2011 · Chapter 0: A Little Background

Ah--one I apparently missed along the way. Something new to read! Hurray!

Nienor Niniel · 30 August 2006 · Chapter 12: Epilogue

A great idea, and wonderfully executed! I especially like how the hobbits are still able to make jokes, even though Frodo's condition must really distress them. And of course it's also good that it ends well! Nienor

Author's reply

Ah, yes, it must end well, or it's probably not one of mine. *g* And light talk on heavy subjects, it's rather hard to pull off, but JRRT set the standard, and we must do what we can to keep it up.

Elanor Silmariën · 29 March 2006 · Chapter 12: Epilogue

Oh my gosh, that last chapter gave me quite a scare for a moment! This was a very good, unique story. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry half the time, but i think you pulled off the angst/comedy thing very well! God bless, Elanor

Author's reply

Thank you, Elanor, for taking time to comment! Angst/comedy is a challenging genre, but lots of fun when it works.

demeter d · 1 January 2006 · Chapter 7: Revisiting Some Old Haunts

I know this story has been around awhile, but I have only just discovered it. I enjoyed your original verse for Tom to greet "the Brandybuck and the Ringbearer with. it is just like his verses in the book.Am enjoying the story very much so far.

Author's reply

Oh, thank you for your comment! Sorry to be so late in replying; somehow I missed seeing it until today. Jodancingtree and I had quite a conversation on Tom's verses, once... I was "helping" her with one of her chapters, and it turned out that *I* was the one who was helped when my turn came to write Tom!

Queen Galadriel · 1 November 2005 · Chapter 12: Epilogue

Oh, Lindellia! You gave me a terrible fright there for a moment, but I'm so glad, so glad Frodo didn't die! Larner recommended me to you, and I didn't think anyone could be so cruel as to take Frodo in that way, but well...you were very convincing! Good work! Is there a sequel? Namarie, and God bless, Galadriel

Author's reply

I write lots of sequels, but one hasn't occurred to me for this story, unfortunately. I find writing "AU" quite a challenge, unless of course I make a mistake and end up writing an accidental AU! Thanks!

Elf Friend · 3 February 2005 · Chapter 12: Epilogue

I loved this story! I'm so glad Frodo had a happy ending. I was so sad when I read the ending of Return of the King...I wanted everyone to live happily ever after. And in your story, they did! ^^ The last line was just brilliant, by the way. I'm looking forward to reading more of your stories. :)

Author's reply

Oh, thank you! For some reason I didn't see this review when you originally wrote it, but just stumbled across it this evening.

Elf Friend · 3 February 2005 · Chapter 3: Seeing Out the Old Year

Yay! This is a great story so far! I can really see your loyalty to the books, just in the way the characters talk. It makes me want to read the books again...and I love that pun at the end! It took me a minute, but after everyone was laughing I understood it. ^^ And Sam's character is perfect. And I think I'll shut up and go on reading the next chapter. :)
