Fimbrethel · 7 November 2025 · Chapter 14: The Pippin
It is very good! Though possibly a little wordy. But maybe you have figured that out by now. Is there more?
Fimbrethel · 6 November 2025 · Chapter 11: Motherhood
And in less than five years Pippin will be taller than them all, and more experienced, so there! And yes, I have heard he looks good in teal.
Periantari · 17 March 2017 · Chapter 58: The Promise
what a tender moment. I love this so much and don't mind rereading many years after. Thank you!
Author's reply
Thanks, Peri!
KathyG · 9 February 2015 · Chapter 20: The Birthday - Minas Tirith
I really wish that you were still writing, GamgeeFest--I would so love to see a story about that thank-you letter which Aragorn wrote to the Gaffer! Sam would have had to read it to him, of course, since the Gaffer can't read. This is a great story, and so is the one covering the birthday celebration in Hobbiton!
Author's reply
Hi, KathyG. Do not fear! I actually did write that story. :) It's located in my "Number Three, Bagshot Row" collection and is called "A Kingly Discussion." I'm glad you're enjoying these.
KathyG · 26 October 2014 · Chapter 6: If I Were a Dark Lord
Too bad Aragorn couldn't have listened in on this discussion with his palantir! He would have gotten a real kick out of it, and it would have given him a good laugh. =)
Author's reply
I'm sure Sam will be writing all about it in his next letter. :D They are adorable rug rats, aren't they?
KathyG · 26 April 2014 · Chapter 57: The Benefits of Pepper
I love a good Sam H/C fic! Thanks for writing this one. I'd love to see some more written, too. Another about Bilbo AND Frodo looking after a sick and/or injured Sam would be nice! =)
Author's reply
Thank you, Kathy G! I don't know if I have one that quite fits your bill, but there are a couple of Bilbo watching over little Sam in my Number Three, Bagshot Row series, and I have a longer h/c with Sam called In the Bleak, Cold Winter with Frodo, Merry and Pippin all helping to care for him.
Antane · 10 January 2012 · Chapter 58: The Promise
I love that lullaby! That is just wonderful, loving, and just as good as Queen Galadriel used to do - which is a huge compliment, if you haven't read any of hers to know that already! I used a lot of them in my own stories years ago now. I love this gift Rose gave, the same one Frodo gave to his Sam and also I'm sure Sam gave to him - it's so him too! Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
Thanks, Antane! Frodo has always been a caring master and friend, and that assured Rose when Sam left. Now she gets to repay him for the kindness he's always shown to Sam. I love when things come full circle like that. :) I'm sure Sam did find an occasion or two to sing that one to Frodo himself. I'm sure there was great use for it as they were recovering in Gondor. :D
Antane · 10 January 2012 · Chapter 57: The Benefits of Pepper
Sweet TLC and I love that Frodo put on his 'stern Master face' to quell Sam's protests. :) Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
His 'stern Master face' was the quickest way to get Sam to listen. Frodo doesn't like doing that normally, but he had no issues with it here. Thank you very much, dear! :)
Antane · 10 January 2012 · Chapter 56: First Bloom
This is such a sweet tale, a love story in its own wonderful way. Love the idea of Sam sleeping under the tree and the care and solace he received and his sadness and hope and the delight of the tree - and ours - to see him smile. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
You're the first to suggest the hobbit was Sam, which I find fascinating. I had a hobbit in mind while writing it, but purposely didn't put a name, for really, how would the Mallorn know it? I do imagine that Sam would have taken comfort from his tree (and I do think he would consider it to be his) as he sought to understand his master's illnesses and especially after Frodo sailed. It could just as easily be either one. And it would have bloomed on Sam's (assumed) birthday too. :D Wonderful!
Antane · 9 January 2012 · Chapter 59: A Meeting of Conspirators
There must have been lots of meetings like this. Thanks for letting us be a fly on the wall on this one. Namarie, God bless, Antane :)
Author's reply
I'm sure there were, especially as the Birthday approached. Poor Sam needs someone to talk to about his worries. ;) Thanks for reading!
Larner · 5 January 2012 · Chapter 59: A Meeting of Conspirators
Yet in the end he will find Estella in his own arms. A beautiful gapfilling vignette. Poor Sam, worrying himself sick over Frodo selling to the S-Bs!
Author's reply
He certainly will. They'll have their HEA, they'll just have to work harder for it than others. ;) Sam wouldn't like the idea of the S-Bs in Bag End - and no doubt ruining *his* garden! Thanks for reading, dear!
Lindelea · 26 December 2011 · Chapter 59: A Meeting of Conspirators
Ah, urgent and bittersweet, you've done a wonderful job of catching the flavour of what must have been a time of uncertainty, shading to desperation as Frodo put his plans into motion. Poor Merry. In a way, he's taking care of Estella as best he can, what with his plans to leave, and no certainty of returning.
Author's reply
Thank you, dear! This was definitely a time of uncertainty for all of them, and Merry doesn't even have Estella for comfort. I'm so glad you enjoyed this! *hugs*
Lindelea · 26 December 2011 · Chapter 58: The Promise
What a lovely lullaby! I loved this little scene between Rosie and Frodo, how the love each one has for Sam shines through and binds them together in something of a mini-conspiracy. Rose to ask Sam to marry her! What fun!
Author's reply
Thank you, Lindelea! It was a nice scene to write. Frodo and Rosie don't often get a lot of interaction in stories. They do care for Sam, and through that come to care for each other just as deeply. And we of course know how their conspiracy turns out! ;) Thanks for reading!
Lindelea · 26 December 2011 · Chapter 57: The Benefits of Pepper
I remember reading something about pepper and wounds, but I never realized it wouldn't sting! Nice bit of knowledge, and something I'd expect Frodo to have picked up from reading. Thanks for a bit of bedtime comfort!
Author's reply
It is a good thing to know, though I hope I never had to use it. :) Frodo would probably make a good healer, if he were so inclined. ;) Thank you for reading!
Larner · 24 December 2011 · Chapter 58: The Promise
Oh, I love the lullaby as well as her final determination to not worry him by asking what had endangered her Sam!
Author's reply
I think Sam would be touched enough by the lullaby to have memorized it and shared it with others. He would know to remind Rose about it, just in case. As for the dream, it was just as likely something that never happened at all and best forgotten. I think Rose will be having another chat with Sam though. ;) Thanks for reading!
Larner · 24 December 2011 · Chapter 57: The Benefits of Pepper
The mark of a born leader, the ability to appear calm and in control and instill confidence on others when in reality upset is trying to tear the person apart! Love it!
Author's reply
Frodo certainly displays all those qualities time and again. Thank you, Larner!
Larner · 24 December 2011 · Chapter 56: First Bloom
Oh, I rejoice that this comfort was shared with Frodo! Thanks so for posting this one!
Author's reply
You're most welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Larner · 10 December 2011 · Chapter 55: A Night at the Ball
Ooh--now that was quite the prank to pull on Aragorn! Heh! A lovely evening for unexpected but deserving ladies! I love this gapfiller for your other tale. And I bet Sam thought a good deal of his Rosie that evening!
Author's reply
Aragorn asked for it, trying to keep the hobbits out of the loop like that. And the ladies certainly did have fun. They will remember this night the rest of their lives. Sam certainly did think of his Rosie, not least what she would think of him dancing with another lass, and one of the Big Folk at that! ;) I'm glad you enjoyed this!
Dreamflower · 3 December 2011 · Chapter 55: A Night at the Ball
Oh how delightful, GF! What fun to see all this from the POV of Laine, Mardi, Esti and Isolda! Thank you for this! I've always wondered what they felt and thought during that night at the Ball!
Author's reply
I'm so happy you enjoyed this! It took me awhile to get into their heads, but it was worth it just to hear Pippin babbling about Gandalf's brothers. ;)
Grey Wonderer · 3 December 2011 · Chapter 54: A Simple Misunderstanding
hehehe I found this one after reading the other and couldn't resist. Adorable!
Author's reply
Thanks! Pippin is such a darling, if easily confused. ;)
Grey Wonderer · 3 December 2011 · Chapter 55: A Night at the Ball
That was such fun! I remember the original and this one fits with it just perfectly. Very entertaining!
Author's reply
Thank you, GW! It was fun to write and get the chance to fill in some of those blanks. :D Glad you enjoyed it!
Holbytla · 13 November 2011 · Chapter 41: Selfless
Hi GamgeeFest. I've been reading a few of your short stories. You have a really great feel for all the characters, and I like the mix of lighter and more humorous bits, as well as the more emotional and sometimes dark ones. This one is a little scary, but also the right tone for that point in the book, and shows Frodo's deterioration and his commitment. That final line had sort of this stealth effect, where it took a second to set in and then I was like, wow, that's so perfect. I feel like that's the sort of trick Tolkein might have played, what with the whole "no man can defeat me" thing. Also, it reminds me of the scene in the Odyssey where Odysseus tells the Cyclops his name is "Nobody" and then when Odysseus stabs him in the eye, the cyclops tries to tell the other cyclopes that "nobody" has hurt him. I also like the double meaning of the title and the appropriateness of the opening quote.
Author's reply
Hi Holbytla! Thank you so much for your kind words. I creeped myself out writing this one. It's definitely creepier than anything else I've written, at least I think so. It all started with that quote, and everything just seemed to gel together from there. It was one of those fics that pretty much wrote itself. As to the last line, I was nearly asleep when that popped into my head, and I had to get up to write it down before I forgot it. I think it really clinches the whole thing. Thank you for reading!
Larner · 2 November 2011 · Chapter 54: A Simple Misunderstanding
Oh, but thanks so for a much-needed laugh! Dear Pippin--and his mother will so wonder where her skillet has disappeared to! Ah, but I'll be giggling over this for quite a time, I suspect.
Author's reply
:D Pippin is far too literal sometimes. Eglantine will be searching for that skillet come breakfast time!
Larner · 2 November 2011 · Chapter 53: My Rose
Ah--how long this day took to come--but it was truly worth the wait, I suspect! Excellent! Love the inability to focus on the words, which after all, are extraneous at the moment.
Author's reply
Sam and Rose will never forget this day. He knows what's most important - the lass standing across from him. And he never believed himself good with words anyway. ;)
